I moved back to Madison in November (it is now April) and had been delaying for over a year getting my hair done to see what it looks like when it grew out. Deciding the blah color that grew out needed help, I looked around to see if there were any salons doing interesting hair that were in my area, and found a Groupon for Rockabettys. I purchased their most expensive one, for all-over highlights, and thought I would give them a try. When I used their online sign up, the Groupon I had selected was not an option (for time), so I chose the next longest time (as all over highlights always take forever), and I indicated in the notes that I knew about the discrepancy, but there had been no other option. Would this selection be OK? The stylist I selected, Angela, contacted me two separate times via email to ask if I a) could come earlier to accommodate the extra time, (to which I said yes, and explained the issue with the booking system) and then two weeks later asking b) did I actually purchase the all over highlights, as that Groupon was more expensive (to which I reassured her that, yes, indeed I had). The evening of my visit, I ended up parking in the next door lot, as it is super easy to miss theirs. I was greeted right away, though in a very teeth gritting way that a couple of the stylists seem to have. Angela was prompt, and we talked about why I had come in, what I was looking for, and what I did NOT want. First and foremost, I didn't want chunky highlights, a-la Christina Aguilera (2000s), and I was hoping for something a little subtle, as I work in a somewhat conservative profession. We actually added a low light (which cost extra) to give it more depth. All-over, thin, subtle highlights. I was worried she was going to be bored, and perhaps she was. Highlighting went as quick as I have ever had, then I say under a dryer for about the same period of time. She washed my hair, dropping the sprayer on me in the process, which was pretty funny (watching her flailing about, telling me how she hadn't done that since her first day in beauty school, twice), but I am not inclined to give her an extra star for the comedy. She then did a "deep conditioning" which was just conditioner on my hair, and sitting under the hood, again. She rinsed me one last time (no water fight this time), and then she added in long layers. The layers look fine, but the chunky, erratic highlights are so distracting, I haven't really looked beyond those. The hair drying started off well, but half way through, she stopped sectioning and just dried en mass, so it was dry in some places and pretty damp in others when I left. I know I have a lot of hair, but others have muscled though and given me dry-ish hair. Once she decided that she was done, she didn't offer to show me the back, just asked if I felt "human, again", a line she and another stylist had used on other customers through-out the evening. I paid for the extra low lights and tip, and got out as fast as possible. Don't go, or if you do don't get your hair done here by Angela. You will be disappointed, and end up going to another salon to get the work evened out. Which is what I am going to do next. Read Less
