Got a beautiful gel manicure here today. They were friendly, efficient, and careful. I've never seen another manicurist who gave such attention to detail! After this manicure, my nails are perfectly shaped (exactly the shape I like - he even asked to make sure!) and all the previously-rough skin around my nails is smooth. I've been to several salons in Madison and none of the others have even come close to the quality I saw here. Best manicure in town! My mom and grandma got regular pedicures and were also very happy. I had been going to Envy since they opened 4 years ago. It was good then. It has been recently sold and it's now terrible . Very understaffed and different staff every time I've been there. First time I was there my gel fill was a disaster with polish peeling off in a week. Second time the staff didn't understand what I wanted and started the wrong process. Third and final time I made an appointment, got there on time, one staff member was sitting in pedicure chair reading, no clients in the salon. I waited a few minutes and another staff member came and told me where to sit and then he disappeared into the back room. After a few more minutes I got up and left. I've been a regular here for 3 years, but they appear to be greatly understaffed, or terribly overstressed. They have always taken walk-ins and I've never had a problem, but twice in two weeks I've walked in and been rudely "barked" at by the very staff who have done my nails for years.  The first time, I came in at 6:30 pm for a manicure and was told sternly to call for an appointment and come back tomorrow.  They are open until 8, and there were only a couple people in the chair.  Ok, fine, I came back two days later.  Again, barked at to come back another time.  There was only one person in the manicure chair and one in the pedicure chair.  I was more than willing to wait, but both times, I was told to leave.  "COME BACK TOMORROW!" Fine, I get it, you now prefer appointments, but then don't say you take walk-ins, OK? Two weeks later I came in, with an appointment, and had a gel manicure with another male technician who I had never seen before. It was a fine experience, they got me right in, but the gel lasted less than one week.  For $40.00, they need to know how to do a gel so that it doesn't peel up after a week. All 10 of my nails lifted at the bottom and quickly peeled straight off all on the same day.  I'm a little disappointed because this has been a great location and a regular spot for me to go. I was a customer here for the past year because of the convenient location and prices ($40 for mani pedi). Some of their technicians are a lot better than others. I've gotten tired of their color selection and their abrupt attitude towards customers. The final straw was when I walked in for a regular mani on Friday and the "lead" woman said we can't take you today because of some reason I couldn't understand, while the other guy said come back around 5, 6, or 7 maybe. She was really rude about it, especially considering how frequently I came there and I find it hard to believe they had no time for a regular manicure. Finally it doesn't really instill a lot of confidence when the other guy is talking at the same time telling me to come back sometime within a 2 hour time frame. Will not be returning. Read Less

Skip this place.  I showed up early for a group appointment, but was treated like I shouldn't be there.  I was manhandled (bodily pushed into a chair), poked, the nail care was rough and hurt often. Cuticle work was good, but my hands were extremely dry afterward.  They rushed me out of the place and made it clear I wasn't welcome, even though I was with a large group that was still there and being serviced. Every other person received a hot paraffin treatment, but it was not offered to me.  It's one of the worst salon experiences I've had, and I've had a few.  Under such circumstances the way that I look (which is different from how the others in the party look) may be a consideration.  It's hard to know, but it's also hard not to think about it.  I'm not from the area, so there's no threat that I'll return.  I am, however, often asked for recommendations.  There's no chance I'll offer a good one for this salon. I went there on a week day after lunch and I was the only customer. The guys who did my nails, was awful. He cut my cuticles too much. They look red and soar after. The hand massage was fantastic, but the polish job was the worst I have ever seen. The guy pressed the brush so hard against my nails with so little polish that the polish was uneven and streaky. The nail polish was very old and I could tell right away that it was not going to dry properly because it was gummy and old. I asked if I could change the nail polish because this one was too old, he did, but he did not do a good job at all. The top coat was also old and thick. I went here to get fake nails and a pedicure before my wedding. Worse experience. First, my maid of honor and I had scheduled an appointment at 12. We were not helped until 12:30. I then showed them a picture of what I wanted for my fingernails. The results was nowhere close. Additionally, she filed and cut my toenails extra short to the point where I was in pain. DO NOT GO HERE!! DO NOT! My friend was CUT getting her nails clipped. Not to mention--the utensils were not new or clean! They were ones she had obviously used before! The lady ripped off my gel polish and ripped off my real nail tips!! She kept insisting they were fake! But they were my REAL NATURAL NAILS AND THEY GOT ALL RIPPED OFF THEY TOOK FOREVER TO GROW!!!! ALSO the gel manicures she gave us are all dented up after one night!!! Gel manicures are not supposed to do that!!!! They shouldn't dent at all and last a month!!!!!! To give Envy Nails a fair chance, I visited them on two separate occasions. The first time was for a mani-pedi, both of which came off well. It wasn't very relaxing, but they did a good job and I was satisfied with the results. This was over the summer.Recently I went in only for a manicure. I didn't make an appointment and was more than willing to wait. I was distressed to find that the nail salon was not as clean as I would have liked. I don't mean daily use during a busy day of business, I mean obvious things that would have signaled that no one was cleaning after weeks and weeks. Wonderful service! Although it took a little while to get our group of four going, the workers are truly amazing people. They do a great job and take their time on your nails even when it is busy, which I appreciate. This was the worst ever. I came once and the guy gave me the sloppiest shellac I've ever had. I made the mistake of coming a second time and the pedi is sloppy and I was so angry at the lady shaping my nails I told her to stop and I'd get them done else where. I come from the land of the $7 manicure (NYC) so I've been looking for a place that can offer the quality that I'm used to without the "spa" prices. This place is now my go-to. I've been there twice and gotten neat, professional manicures. I had my first pedicure there yesterday and I'm really happy with it. They do a great job cleaning up your nails, their polish selection is slightly above average, and the staff is friendly. But perhaps the best part is the extra long massage you get with the pedicure--best part of my week! This place doesn't offer a "spa experience" but you don't pay spa prices either. I paid $40+tip for regular mani/pedi. It's no $7 manicure, but I'm a fan. I recommend it. Read Less

I came two weeks ago to get gel nails, and they did a fine job. There were a couple imperfections, but I was ok with it. They lasted about 10 days with regular wear and tear. Then they started to chip and interestingly started to peel from near the nail beds. I came back today to get them off. I called and asked if I could come in at a certain time and they just told me to come in any time as a walk-in and they would see me right away. I came at 3:20 pm (they close at 4), and they were pretty busy with pedicures. One of the ladies asked if I could wait, and I said sure. Little did I know that I would be waiting 45 minutes! Through that wait time the lady kept looking at me but never told me it would be a few more minutes or anything. I was probably more patient than most, but the last straw was when two more women came in to get their toes and nails done and they seated them right away! I then called Fancy Nails, and they told me they would be able to see me without a wait. I got up and left, and the lady just looked at me and didn't say a word.The reason I think that wait time is ridiculous is because taking the gel nails off takes 5 min of their time to put the cotton and foil on, 15 min of waiting, and then 5 min more of scraping the polish off. That could certainly have been done during one of the pedicures. I also thought it was rude that the lady who told me to wait didn't check on me again. Read Less

I won't go anywhere else. They are always remember your name and have great customer service--plus they do a fantastic job with your nails! I probably average a visit a month and I've never had any issues with the polish peeling early or chipping fast. Not the greatest nail salon, I would never go back.It may seem clean and tidy at a glance, but is unhygienic. I did not see the tools being used cleaned between uses and clients.The lady doing my nails cut and filed my nails so short that I had pain for several days. Although my cuticles do look better than before.I had originally asked for a set of gels, but the lady started to do shellac on me. After asking what she was doing when I noticed, she started to get mad and blame me for not knowing. I have been getting my nails done since high school and always ask for the exact same thing when I want a full set of gels put on. I told her it was okay to just finish the shellac. After this, she kept telling me how I asked wrong and didn't know things. She kept taking to all the other technicians in the store who kept looking at me very rudely. It was upsetting and unprofessional.Upon finishing, The nails were not straight and did not look good for the money I paid. My shellac was about a centimeter away from the nail bed within 3 days, and I have VERY slow growing nails. Overall I was extremely uncomfortable for mediocre service at medium-high cost. Read Less

It's taken me a while to find a nail salon I like here in Madison. They're either too noisy, understaffed, or just don't do a good job. I get shellacs done and pedicures here. They're very thorough on the shellac--they do a full manicure every time, regardless, and make sure to look carefully for any smudges or mistakes. Some places don't even look at your cuticles or anything when doing a shellac, but they do here. They do a great job on pedicures, too. I like their extended hours. That is a huge plus to be open until 7:30 (!) on weeknights and 6 pm on Saturdays, and 4 on Sundays. It's clean and spacious with super comfy couches to wait on. The only two caveats are, they seem to be out of some of the shellac colors, despite saying they're available. They should update that. They also make you tip in cash, which I don't find to be the most convenient, but it's not the end of the world, and I don't blame them for doing that, from a business perspective. Read Less

I love coming here! I have been coming here since 2010 and the same people still work here! I adore getting a pedicure here which starts at $30. They are very well skilled in doing fake nails, both acrylic and gel :). If a person doesn't have a lot of cash, a manicure is only $17! I've been going to Envy Nails for pedicures and manicures for over a year now.  They are always respectful, hygienic, and being in the salon is an enjoyable experience.  Their nail art skills are fantastic and the prices are very reasonable.  Plus they don't do a lot of acrylics so the salon smells great.  I've been there when it was busy with 5 people waiting (walk ins) and when I had the place to myself (5 inches of snow falling).  Both were comfortable experiences!  They do a really nice foot and leg massage and the massage chairs are wonderful.  I highly recommend Envy Nails and brought my whole wedding party here too.  They now have a printed menu with prices and I've never had them use an off brand polish as some reviewers have. The pedicures are done well and the nail design lasts a long time.  But I would call my experience "utilitarian" even with the spa option.  Scrub scrub scrub trim trim trim file file file.  Gets the job done at a good price, but not exactly relaxing. The price for a spa pedicure is very reasonable. You do get a fair amount of upselling as staff will ask you if you want to buy tools or additional services during your pedicure.  I ended up getting a flower design on my nails by mistake--the technician asked me "do you want a flower on your nail?" and at the time I couldn't quite understand her and so I said yes.  Flower actually looked pretty good, though!I was very pleased with how long my pedicure lasted.  Longer than any other nail service I've had. $28 for a pedi, cheap and not good. The bad: She only filed the big toes, and even that was crooked. The color bled all over my skin. No name base and top coats, and the top coat made my polish look worse. Skin around the nails does not look pampered. Overall, I think I've done a much better job shaping and polishing my nails, and smoothening the skin around them at home. Good job making my heel smooth though, but they were pretty good to start with. The good: The salon is very clean and pleasant, great selection of polishes. Ok. They opened in January 2011 and they have been running deals every since. I first visited in Feb. 2011 and I love that (a) they are new so service is still optimal, (b) family owned, (c) the husband and wife genuinely get along, (d) they were smart to invest in some of the BEST MASSAGE CHAIRS, (e) nicely decorated, (f) always clean, (g) good/great location - close to campus/capitol and westside, (h)the DEALS KEEP ME HOOK BUT THE (i) GREAT WORK ON MY TOES KEEP ME LOYAL. Additional Kudos: I was actually educated on what I needed to keep my feet happy & healthy without any sales pitch. 1b) My Sorority sister was educated as well that she didn't need the razor to her feet and was given steps to keep it that way. 2) I asked for an extra massage on my feet the 1st visit and got it. Think it's a fluke?? Well.. no on my return visit I have had different people and each time I was provided exactly what I asked for. 3) I will admit the Husband worked on me today and he didn't take out as much time as all the other women but he did some reflexology work on my feet that was well appreciated. 4) They are respectful when addressing clients. 5) Although English may not be everyone's first language they are mindful to speak in English as much as possible when in front of customers. 6) Great color options, of course OPI, and I've never been in pain. 7) I've worn a dress twice which went to my ankles but before I could even ask for a towel to cover my lap one was provided....BOTH TIMES. I love manners as most Southerners do but when it's given and it's unexpected it just touches something in you. :-) IN SHORT: It's so easy to tip & over-tip.
