I’ve been going to Swink off and on since they opened and have always had a great experience! The stylists are super talented and fast (without seeming to rush). I have a thick head of hair with a mind of its own and they always do great blowouts, generally with time to spare. I’ve gotten some cute dry styles there too although, as with most things of this nature, it helps to have at least an idea of what you want done going into it. I am very confused as to how this place has 4.6 stars. The service was great, everyone was very friendly however not one person here knows how to give a decent blow out. Myself and three of my friends got our hair done there on Saturday and we were all extremely unhappy. My friend and I ended up putting out hair up and the two others went home and rewashed it and did it themselves! Some product knowledge would be very valuable for some of these ladies as well. I am an out of towner and decided to get my hair done before the wedding. I came in 5 minutes past my appointment and checked with the receptionist. She said that my stylist will be with me soon but there was no place to sit and wait. While i was standing around waiting for a few minutes, someone rushed into the salon and introduced herself as my stylist. I was little shocked that the stylist looked unprofessional and came late to the appointment. I showed her a picture of the style i wanted and she said so you want the drystyle. She curled my hair and asked me if i wanted anything else. She curled my hair for maybe 10 minutes. I said my hair usually falls straight later and that i wanted tighter curls, she looked annoyed. She curled my hair some more  for a few more minutes and i was done with my appointment in 20 minutes. I would not recommend this place. I went to other hair blow dry bars and i was disappointed with service at this place. $40 for less than 20 minutes of curling hair with no shampoo and blow dry! I'm visiting from out of town and staying at the Hyatt. At home, I get frequent blowouts and I didn't really want to do my hair here without my usual tools and products. I looked up blowdry bars on yelp and this place is just a block away from where I was staying. I was able to easily book online (thru yelp!!) and it honestly could not have been easier. I was a little worried because you just don't know how good a blowout will be from a total stranger. But I didnt' need to worry. Molly did my blowout and did a fabulous job. She was fast, efficient. She asked how I like to have my hair blown out and the amount of product I like to have on my hair. She followed my direction perfectly. Several women came in and out of the salon while I was getting my hair done and everyone looked absolutely fabulous. If you're like me and haven't been gifted the ability to do your own hair, Swink is for you. I was in town for a wedding and booked an appointment for a blow out and hot tools style. Within one hour, my hair was washed, dried, and styled. I was worried that it wouldn't hold up since the wedding wasn't for another four hours but to my surprise, it did! It was the closing night of the Seattle International Film Festival I was one of the last customers on a Sunday.  I dock two stars because they have one sink.Positives:Hair looked OK when I leftThe booking process was smooth.I was offered water upon entry.They let me change into my dress (which took less than five minutes)Drawbacks:I didn't get the water after I changed my clothes.I was third in line waiting for a shampoo, so I missed out.You are charged the same for a dry style and a blowout. *The last part about same price with or without a shampoo makes NO sense to me.*If a customer books a dry style and upon arrival at the salon she should have the option of getting a shampoo for the same amount of money, period. I did tip $10 because I do not think the stylist was to blame for the lack of a sink, and I did not remind her about the water myself.  In fact am just remembering about the water it when I write this review.  I went to the SIFF passholder dinner the next day, and my hair looked just as good for free.  My husband took five minutes putting in beach wave curls in the back, I got myself the water, and voila. Just OK.  My bff and I went in since we a good experience with a blowout two weeks prior at another blow dry bar.  We wanted to try something different and so this is based on my dry style experience - for $40 bucks, I would just go home and style my own hair.  Walked in, checked in - was hoping to be offered water, but nope. Receptionist was friendly enough.   Asked for beachy wavy curls, chatted a few sentences with the stylist, spray, curl, curl and then done.  Was done is less than 30 mins.  Not worth the money.  Maybe my experience would be different if I did just a blowout but not impressed unfortunately. Swink made my hair look completely amazing in only 45 minutes. My headshots turned out amazing and my hair has held a pretty, gentle curl for the past two days.Service was great- the receptionist is a total sweetheart, she was super nice to me when I showed up 30 minutes early because I put the appointment in my calendar wrong (whoops).I think the price ($40+tip) should equal more of the perks other blow dry bars have, like champagne, mimosas, cookies, soft towel instead of a cape, maybe a brief shoulder massage? There's definitely some room for improvement there that would create a better customer experience and help me justify the expense more often. Heads up, the location isn't great if you're driving. Bypass the nearby parking lot and go into the deck one block over. The parking lot wanted $10 for the day, couldn't pay by the hour, and the deck was only $6. If you're not far, it's probably easier to Lyft/Uber so you don't have to deal with traffic and parking. Read Less

My 3 year old and I got our ears pierced at the University Village location today. It was a great experience. I've had my ears pierced several times, and this was by far the best time. My daughter didn't even cry. All the staff were friendly and good with kids. The girl who did the actual piercing was knowledgable, professional, and skilled. And the price was very reasonable. I have been to Swink 3 times now and will continue to stop in every time I have a special event. My first visit was to do a trial run prior to my wedding. Danelle worked with me for about an hour looking at the photos that I brought in and listening to my comments and questions. I loved the updo that she did and was extremely excited for my wedding day later that week. Additionally, my mother did a trial run for her hair, and within half an hour, she was extremely pleased with the results of the girl that was helping her. On the day of the wedding, Danelle recreated the look from the trial run flawlessly. It was extremely secure, while not looking shellacked to my head, and held through out the entire night, including hours of dancing. In addition, the other hair dressers did my 3 bridesmaids' hair and my mothers. All looked gorgeous and walked out of the salon with exactly what they had requested. My most recent visit was this past weekend, 3 months after I had gotten marred. I had purchased a LivingSocial deal for a reduced price updo. I was headed to a wedding and used the opportunity to get made up. I requested Danelle, and when I walked in the door, she greeted me by name and asked how I had been since my wedding. She then noticed a change in my hair and commented on it immediately. It was wonderful to be remembered, knowing that she has seen over a hundred others since she did my hair, in addition to helping with 3 other wedding parties that morning before seeing me. Again, she did a fabulous job on my hair, and it again, lasted through the night and more hours of dancing, and walking in the rain. Additionally, Danelle did my friend's hair, which turned out amazing. We are both thrilled with how our hair looked. My experiences have been so great, that I have recommended Swink to other Bride's who have taken me up on my advice and have not been disappointed. Swink is a fun, warm place to have your hair done for those special occasions. The space is cozy and the staff friendly. I recently saw Susan for a style before attending a friend's wedding. Despite being a busy day, she was right on time for me (which during frantic day of beautification is always appreciated!). This place is amazing! First, what an incredible idea, love love love being able to just go somewhere for the sole purpose of being made to look fabulous in under an hour, for $30. I mean come on, who wouldn't be down for that? I love the space, fab decor that makes me feel happy just being there. The staff is so friendly and fun to chat with while you're getting your hair or makeup done. I can't wait to go back. They made me look uber fabulosa in about a half hour for what I spend on coffee in a week. This is not a splurge, this is like the new must do on your way out for a night on the town. Do it! This place is amazing! I was so excited about it when I heard what it was. They do blowouts or styling for your hair, which is great for me because I have flat hair and I'm definitely not good at doing it myself. I wanted to get my hair styled for some holiday parties (BEFORE I heard about Swink!) and after looking into salons, I didn't get anything done because they were expensive and geared more towards cuts/colors; not styling. Now I have a place I can go to for a quick style for $30, and $20 on Tuesday! They were so friendly and they told me I could bring in a picture of a style I want or choose from their menu of ideas. The stylist was great, I love what she did to my flat hair. And the location is great too, since it's right downtown! I am so glad this place opened.
