I had an odd/troubling experience with this salon in May 2018, specifically with Delicia Ortiz. I went to her for advice on hair styles/products and a hair cut. She saw me a total of 3 times. The first time for a consultation, the second for a haircut, and the third for a 2nd consultation. She'd texted me recommending another consultation when I'd asked about exchanging the products she'd recommended during the haircut. Both were Moroccan oil products (Hydrating Style Cream and Intense Curl Cream) that were not a good fit for my hair texture b/c it made my hair dry/brittle and left a lot of residue. Her text said "What I'd recommend we do is book a 15 min consultation and go over product application and address issues you've been having". This seemed reasonable, so I booked a 2nd consultation. This is when things went surprisingly off the rails. I show up on time and had to wait for 30 minutes in the hallway for Delicia to finish with her other client. Since the salon is very small it isn't unusually for clients to wait on benches in the hallway (there are several salons in the Salons by JC suite). HOWEVER, once her client left, instead of showing me into the salon and sitting me in her chair she came out and sat next to me on the bench (without a word about being 30 min late, btw). When I asked her why we weren't going into the salon she said "We're just going to talk out here". Some of you may be wondering a few things--1) why are you in hallway? 2) how is she going to "go over product application" without looking at your hair?? I was wondering the same. It turns out the "consultation" was a ruse b/c all she did while we were sitting on that bench was tell me that I should look for another stylist b/c I wasn't ready to work with her (!!). I can't help but chuckle as I type this b/c her logic was so absurd and circular that all you can do is laugh! Her rationale was the following: 1) the reasons why I had issues with the products she'd recommended were my fault--apparently I was applying them wrong (since we didn't "go over product application" how could she know that? lol) and when I'd said that the products made my hair so dry that it was breaking, her response was "I think we have different ideas of what dry means" (mmmmkkkkk). 2) If I wasn't willing to blindly trust her knowledge about products and maintenance for the hair on my head (i.e., no feedback that contradicts her even though she's mixed with type 3 curly hair and I have type 4 kinky hair) she can't have me as client, esp since my views on my hair are misguided. 3) "Moroccan oil is a professional product that must be applied in particular way"--yeaah two points here a) If that's the case why didn't she review how to apply it, especially if "doing it wrong" leads to breakage? b) Aren't professional products only available to licensed stylists? Well that can't be right b/c both of the products I used are available to the public via the Morrocan oil website AND Delicia sold them to me (*sigh*) 4) I ask too many questions which seems to threaten her sense of entitlement. For those of you out there with type 4 hair you know it can be a struggle but I value advice and dialogue about my hair. Delicia Ortiz is a licensed professional who encouraged me to ask her questions. Apparently she forgot this when she commented that the "consultation was talking too long and it was only supposed to be for 15 minutes" The appointment was at 7:30pm, she got to the bench around 8:05pm and I was in my car heading home at 8:25, smh. 5) "In 6-9 months I'd be willing to try and work with you again". Yes, folks that's in quotes b/c that's exactly what she said to me. Keep in mind that this woman is a stranger to me. Aside from these 3 encounters we have no history, we are not friends on FB, we do not run in the same circles--she felt that his was an appropriate way to treat a CLIENT. This type of behavior is completely unacceptable, therefore I would absolutely not recommend this salon. Read Less
