Firstly,let me say that I've been going to this salon since it first opened in Ballard. I followed the owner from Lake City because she did such a great job. At first, it was a lovely experience and worth the drive to Ballard. The experience began to go downhill rapidly .I hate to be rushed when having a manicure and pedicure, and I don't want them to be done at at the same time.That is not at all relaxing.This happened to me three times and each time i asked them to wait and perform the services separately. I finally had to be almost rude, because they wouldn't listen to me, and I had to pull my hands away.Why the rush ? There weren't  that many customers in the shop ! It felt as if they wanted me out of there ASAP.Then,the person who had been doing my acrylic nails for a long time was suddenly no longer available for that service.I would make an appointment but I never knew who was going to be doing my nails. Unfortunatley,the quality of the work varies widely from technician to technician. The most recent acrylic fill has already started to peel back from the edges ( after 5 days ) and the nails lengths are uneven and some obviously "pointed" in the wrong direction.From time to time, I don't know what I am going to be charged for my services.The acrylic fill is listed as $25, but the last fill cost me $40. The staff  have hinted that "too many people get sick" around acrylic nails and they will soon stop providing that service. It has become quite clear to me that they really don't want me as a customer. Since there are probably 20 -30 nails salons between me and Ballard, I don't'see any reason to go back to Royal Nails. I really enjoy pedicures here. I've seen a few technicians and they're all wonderful and most importantly (for me) *gentle!* They're also all very thorough and really take their time, absolutely worth the cost (which is completely reasonable). Definitely recommend! Read Less

Came here on the hunt for a good place that does acrylics. I walked in and, just like the photos, it's cute clean and trendy! Never been anywhere like this in seattle. Their prices are a little more expensive than other places, but I felt it was worth it. They had a VERY organized and plentiful selection of gel/shellac colors, a cute little bar to do acrylics at, and my nails came out great! They shaped them perfectly and thinned them out like I like, compared to the place I'd been doing them before. Friendly staff and good service. I'll be back! Read Less

Pros - Great location, pretty nice people, clean, lots of colors to choose from (shellac & regular), and overall a good value. Easy street parking.Cons - I've had mixed experiences - first time went just for shellac mani, and it was good. Second time, went for regular pedi and shellac mani and it was very, very busy, as in, they took more customers in than they seemed to be able to reasonably manage.  Several of the technicians were clearly under the weather with barking coughs - probably best to stay home, given close proximity during service. The woman who did my shellac was like a machine - it did not feel the least bit like a pampering. The woman who did my pedi approached her work very strangely, and I hope I can describe it in a way that is understandable. Here goes: rather than holding my toes with one hand, and painting the nail with the other, she just freestyle painted, without holding my toe. So, the polish didn't go to the edges, and with each subsequent coat, the polish was more to the center. Came here to have my Nails filled, requested acrylic powder.. all they had was SNS, which she didn't say on the phone. Also it doesn't last longer than three weeks if your hands are in and out of water all day. After having a full set of SNS before months prior in Queen Anne ... I expected to pay mmmm maybe $50??? NO they charged me $75!!!! Poor lady didn't get her ten dollar tip because they like to scope People out whom they think they can take advantage of and change up their rates last minute upon checkout...I won't be back and I'll be sure to tell ten people too! Also my nails cracked on four nails the following week. Being they nickel and dime for everything I wasn't going out of my way again for a free fix. (It's in the ghetto) After being there an hour she didn't even put on new tips... I assumed she would after taking so much time to dull them down. I was there over an hour!!! I came here for a Brazilian wax and a mani/pedi. I normally go somewhere else for my waxing services, but my esthetician was out of town. I usually stay away from getting waxing done at nail salons but the reviews here were decent. The Brazilian hurt like a b* and it felt like she was ripping skin because she would go over the same area more than a few times. And behold the next day the skin is scabbing over in multiple areas. Not a good look. I don't know how I got through that torture. I guess I have high pain tolerance. They did a decent job with my shellac manicure, but you can see the different layers of nail polish on my toenails. Especially against the light, you can see the clear nail polish was badly done. Awesome place! My friend and i called on Friday AM and were able to be fit in for a shellac mani by 5pm. There were so many beautiful options and it was fun flipping through the swatch books -- even more fun because we were given champagne :-) Sweet ladies who helped us pick out our accent nails. It had a lot of seating arrangements and seemed clean.The massage/hot stones were pretty quick as opposed to other local places, but it is an excellent option for a quick and gorgeous manicure! I went here for the first time.  They were able to give me a walk in appointment for a full set of acrylics.  Unfortunately the service was not great,  it was hard to communicate with my nail tech about nail shape and she got easily frustrated and didn't do the shape I wanted.  In the end,  the nails were uneven and lopsided.  Within a couple of days the edges of the acrylic started to pop up,  and on the 4th day one nail came off.  My experience here didn't make me want to go back,  so I went to a different nail salon and paid to have all my nails fixed, and filled, and re-filed.  I had a great experience at this salon and they were helpful. I've been looking forward to having an excuse to get a pedicure and come here with all the great reviews. It was even better than I thought it would be!!! THEY GIVE A HOT STONE MASSAGE WITH A REGULAR PEDICURE!!! I have never had one of those before because I always thought it would be weird. I need to learn to check my judgements at the door! I actually put down my phone and kindle and had a moment of pure bliss. It also wasn't super short and i had already had a scrub and massage. The chairs are very nice and not super confusing like many other pedicure massage chairs. This was all for $25, a discount for their morning special since I was there between 10-2 (mon-thur). This probably explains why it was so busy, as I was expecting it to be quiet at noon on a Tuesday. This place is wonderful and I will most definitely be back. I see you can also get alcohol with your pedicure. Only drawback is they are closed Sunday but I'll definitely work around that. Read Less

I'd like to start by saying that I would come to this place maybe once a month for a manicure. I loved it. Great manicure, massage, paraffin wax for cheap! It was great. I told many people to go because you could get a great manicure for less in Seattle. Today I went back to get a gel manicure.  You engagement photo shoot is this weekend and I needed a nice manicure. I think that the woman who did my nails did a good job with polishing my nails. HOWEVER. My gel manicure took about 20 minutes with a short "massage" and no paraffin wax. Since the Polish turned out okay despite how quickly she did it, I didn't mind. Then when I went to pay, I had a huge shock when the increased their prices! I think by $10! The fact that I payed an extra ten dollars for a quick, rushed, and disappointing manicure leaves me upset. I won't be going back and I will be telling my friends that they are now jipping people. This place is something special! The girls at Royal Nails are sweet, talented, and easy to communicate with. The whole place feels clean and never awkward or uninviting like some of the nail salons in the area. On my first visit, I went in to get my first ever acrylic set removed after my nails were starting to hurt. The girl I was paired with was kind and understanding through the whole removal process. She even kept asking if anything hurt so we could make sure the experience was as painless as possible! After removing the nails, she completed one of the most gorgeous shellac manicures I've ever received. No uneven nails, overzealous cuticle cuts, or lumps in the polish. Seriously masterpiece worthy. My favorite part of manicures at Royal Nails are the warm handmasks and quick arm massages that follow every shellac manicure (so relaxing!). Had a fantastic first visit to Royal Nails today for a mani/pedi combo. It was super easy to schedule the appointment over the phone and I was pleasantly surprised to see a beautifully decorated nail salon right in North Ballard as I stepped in.The two gals that did my nails were very nice, and I enjoyed my royal pedicure, which included lots of treatments (e.g. paraffin, peppermint scented oils, hot stone massage, etc.) and a nice mani.During my visit, they had a steady stream of clients coming in for their shellac/gel mani which was on special. I love this place! I had never had acrylic nails before but since I have such weak nails I decided to give it a try. I have been three times now and they always do such an amazing job. So nice and calming, plus the cash discount is awesome.PS they only have one lady that does their acrylics and she is there Monday-Thursday most weeks. While they do take walk-ins for this, they prefer to have appointments and it's a good idea to do so you know she will be free when you get there. Read Less

This place is an unbelievable find, I hesitate to let you in on such a secret oasis. From the time you walk in the door, you are pampered by the attentive and professional staff. They offer several different manicure and pedicure options (Royal Pedicure ). I've been here 3 times now, and each time my shellac manicure lasts WEEKS (and I'm a bartender). First time visit to Royal last night and had a Pedi - What a beautiful salon & friendly/polite staff!! They also take their time and give you a very relaxing experience - not a rushed cattle call as other salons. In addition to this, I was pleasantly surprised that for every client, they open a new personal "pouch of tools" and all pedi tubs have a disposable liner in them. This is the #1 sanitary issue I have had with "other" salons in the area.... including the salon down the road that I have been at for YEARS. Jeni is the only person in Seattle I trust with my nails. She takes care of you and is loyal to her customers. This salon is clean, efficient, and everyone on the staff is extremely talented. I've never left disappointed, and if you were, Jeni wouldn't let you leave until it was fixed. I've recently started using the SNS nails system (a blend of the strength and longevity of shellac and gel but that actually is natural and healthy for your nails).
