I found Lisa by a Groupon for a brow tint and wax. I've been getting my brows threaded for years, but had a bad experience and thought I would give waxing another shot. Turns out, I seem to have developed an allergy to wax, as I had a very intense and painful reaction on the skin that was waxed. But, once my skin healed? Dark tint and brow shape look great! Lisa let me know that she doesn't like to taper the end of the brow and I was feeling like mine weren't looking feminine enough, so I reached back out after and she offered to adjust them. We had a great time during the appointment. We got things off on the right foot (insert sarcasm here) when I broke her table... Yep, put one butt cheek up on it and the whole thing came crashing down. She was so cool about it, even though I was super embarrassed. I'm fat, so I was blaming myself and she just kept telling me that it was a super old table and she needed to get a new one anyway. I'm pretty sure that I apologized ten times and she insisted it wasn't a big deal. I laid down on the couch in her waiting room and we used that to get things done, lol!Thanks to the allergic reaction, I'm not sure Lisa will be able to become my new brow gal, but I would absolutely come back for other services! I've been a regular customer at the Beauty Bar for at least three years. I've had my brows done by both Michelle (who no longer works there) and Lisa, and not once have I walked away disappointed. I see Lisa every four weeks and during every appointment I feel like I'm just catching up with a girlfriend because she's so friendly.  Pricing is fair as well. $20 for a brow wax is one of the lowest prices you'll see in town and Lisa does an excellent job.Next time you need to book a wax appointment, give Lisa a call. I've been a Beauty Bar Spa customer for about 4 years now. I found the place because it is connected to a coffee shop I used to work at. I've been fan ever since and in true fan form, though my career moved away I still come back to Lisa every 4-6 weeks to get my eyelashes tinted. It's a scary thing to lay on your back with your eyes shut for 30min while someone is putting due on your lashes. But not with Lisa, she made me feel comfortable and safe and now I can't go anywhere else. I trust her. So, I decided to book an appointment here since the other salon I go to closes on Sunday and needed my eyebrows done that day. Have you ever walked into a spa and then just tensed up?  I have.  However, when you walk into the Beauty Bar Spa you know you've come into a warm and inviting space, one where you can relax and enjoy sipping a cup of tea, laugh with a friend, or make a new one.  I've fallen in love with atmosphere Lisa, the owner, has developed at Beauty Bar Spa.  One earlier reviewer mentioned how relaxed the Beauty Bar is and that's what begins to happen when you walk in.  I get my mani & pedis there after I fell in love with Marika and then Danette.  You can't go wrong with either and you don't worry about walking out with a fungus.  Yes, their mani/pedi prices cost more than a chop shop, but my last pedi lasted 3 weeks and could have kept on going.  And the work they do on my cuticles is flawless.  This is the kind of place where when Marika was injured, Lisa - the owner - did not rush out to fill in the spot with just anyone, but was able to find another very special person to bring into this intimate salon.  Everything there is clean.  You don't have to worry who else might have been lying down on the table before you.  Lisa gives The Best Facials I've ever had.  Her new person, Courtney, also does a bang up job.  Because of all the positive experiences I had there, I took up waxing two summers ago and have never looked back.These women are in for a laugh as well as a moment of pleasure.  The spa does not offer the services mentioned in the July 2012 review.  There's never been a slimming wrap, I don't understand about "get music", and they have never calculated my tip before. Lessee...-got called twice for the appointment; they really didn't have their act together.-turned out that despite 2 calls, I got scheduled for the wrong treatment-treated me like UTTER CRAP when I tried to explain that I did NOT need the slimming wrap - I have low blood pressure and cannot be dehydrated like that-the wrap that I did get (that supposedly wasn't the slimming one) was so hot that I actually had to stop the facial early because I was crying and ready to pass out.-when I was in the waiting lounge trying to become well enough to go home, I was challenged as to why I was there, like I was a leper (rather than trying to get me to be okay).-I had to pay full price despite all of this.  I got a $50 gift certificate.  That's really funny, since the person here who simply didn't have music got a $75 gift certificate.-they attempted to calculate the tip with the product I bought included.  I had to correct them.And, like everyone says, the changing rooms are miniscule, and there's no shower.  I couldn't even use the bathroom before I left because someone was in the one they had.Anyone want a $50 gift certificate?  I think it's actually dangerous to go to this place, since they seem to care so little when you're sick and still make you pay for the whole thing. i purchased a deal here and thought i'd give them a shot since they were less than a mile from my house. let me just say, best manicure ever! seriously. my nails were absolutely perfect. to top it off, the manicure lasted 12 days before a few starting chipping/peeling. that's unheard of for a manicure on my hands. i'm usually lucky to go a 5-6 days. these nails lasted through a trip to vegas and daily keyboard typing. Marika is awesome! she was also really fun to talk to. she had some hilarious stories to tell. i had to deduct one star for the price... $75 for a mani/pedi is a bit too much for my budget :( if it weren't for the price, i'd be there ever 2 weeks. I got my first brazilian here by Michelle and it was beyond an amazing experience.  The place is right off a main street and is easy to find.  I would assume parking could be difficult, but I was able to find a parallel parking spot right outside the door.  The shop itself was smaller and had a very calming feel to it.I was greeted by a lady at the front desk, who knew my name by the appointment I made a couple hours earlier, over the phone.  She was very cheery and pointed me to the seating area and magazines, as well as asking if I would like any tea or water.  I had to wait around 10 minutes, but I was more than happy doing so.My appointment with Michelle went over smoothly.  I have gotten many other bikini waxes in the past and have been way too uncomfortable with the staff to think about getting anything else done.  This was not the case here.  Michelle was very professional and did her very best to make sure I had an awesome experience.  She was so good at what she did that I had no problem with being uneasy about the process.  She also had a lot of knowledge on the subject that helped me get my mind off the sting.I would recommend this place to everyone! I followed Michelle out here from Julep in the U District - that kind of trek alone should tell you how awesome she is. Michelle is incredibly nice and an expert at what she does - simply wonderful. She goes to great lengths to make sure your wax is perfect, even down to meticulous details. She's sensitive to clients' experience, and tries her best to reduce any pain. She also uses great products. You'll walk out of there with an amazing wax and feeling like you just made a new best friend.4 stars because one time I made an appt with someone other than Michelle, and the quality really wasn't on par with my usual experience. Spots were missed entirely, as well as stray hairs here and there - plus I had a ton of "razor burn"/irritation afterwards. It's like the esthetician just wasn't as dedicated, and I kind of got the vibe she was just grossed out by normal procedures or something. Very weird. A friend and I went into Beauty Bar for a mani/pedi a few weeks ago and came away with mixed feelings. Our nails looked awesome and if I was rating just based on that, they would get 4.5 stars. Unfortunately they lacked in other areas which is why they averaged out to a 3 star rating.The woman who did my nails (blanking on her name) was cold, had a bad attitude and didn't engage in conversation. We were about 7 minutes late for our appointment (damn car GPS!) and from the get-go, she seemed annoyed/angry that we were late. Yes, that's our fault but we apologized and in the end, there was no one else scheduled after us so whats the big deal?? The woman who did my friends nails was much nicer but dressed pretty unprofessionally in a grungy t-shirt and sneakers. It just didn't match the spa like atmosphere they seem to be going for. My nails did look great but for their location, prices (I'm glad I didn't pay the actual $75 for a mani/pedi --used my living social coupon), and the fact that they usually only have 1 person most days doing nails, I wont be coming back any time soon. I don't write many reviews on here but I thought I'd share my great experience with any of those wondering about the place.I've had so many bad eyebrow waxes. Since I get them tinted, it's even more crucial that the wax/shaping is done well because if it's not...it shows. Up until now, I've given my trust to one woman and one woman only with my brows, and that's Besilia at the Gene Juarez in Bellevue. (I've gone to 3 other girls there and none of them did a good job.) I needed my eyebrows done TODAY and Besilia was not in, so I thought I'd look on Yelp to see if I could find someone.I took a leap of faith and went to see Lisa at The Beauty Bar. Instantly I was a little thrown off, it's a little hole in the wall place, and being used to Gene Juarez, wasn't sure how well this was going to go.When I walked in the door I was immediately greeted by Lisa who did my brows. She took me outside to get a real look at the color and went over what I wanted.She took me into a room an layed me on a massage table that actually a heat pad on it to keep me warm. SUCH a nice touch! She then did my brows...and I held my breath the whole way waiting for them to be ruined (as they always are when someone aside from my usual girl does them). At the end she handed me a mirror and to my surprise, they were perfect. I was on the prowl for a new pedicure place and a client raved about the Beauty Bar. I made an appt for a pedicure AND an eyebrow wax. I am a hairdresser and I am VERY pick pick picky! The salon is laid back and neighborhood casual. The girlz are friendly and fun. Michelle gave me one of the best eyebrow shaping/waxings I have ever had. Marika gave me a relaxing, detailed pedicure. LOVE - LOVE the beauty bar spa & boutique. Always fits you in, always a great brazilian waxx w/out the 1/2 day soreness. I don't know how she does it, it must be her special technique, but w/ all other wax salons you get that first night soreness from a fresh wax in that oh so sensitive area. Beauty Bar is the best experience I've had with waxing in this town and I highly recommend it. Lisa was super nice and the cozy atmosphere, comfortable table and great tunes made for a rather relaxing time overall. (I mean we all know waxing is painful, but this was a much more comfortable experience than I've had in the past.) The only downside for me is that I don't live in West Seattle so it's a bit of a trek... but I would say totally worth the money AND the extra travel time! Read Less

Well I am a guy with what could only have been described as two caterpillars above my eyes. I live in West Seattle and of course was bit uncomfortable about getting something ""waxed"" for the first time. I also didn't want to end up looking like a drag queen. I had a great experience here. it was a quaint neighborhood atmosphere that I was not embarrassed to go to. The service was excellent and the results were perfect.
