The first time I came here, I thought they did a great job and I was welcomed, but today, it was the worst service I've ever had in my life. Neither the owner nor his daughter who run the place where there. We walked in and were seated less than five minutes later. I came with my friend and we came just for pedicures. They didn't turn the jets on, I had to ask. The guy that sat down to do my pedicure had no idea what he was doing. He cut my skin when trimming my nails. He didn't apologize and my skin was burning from the cut. A few more people came in and he got up and left to seat them. He was gone for more than 15 minutes. I finally had to say something about the fact that they were going to serve other people that came in after me. Then the owner's other daughter said, "seriously?" She then tried to convince my friend that she shouldn't get a shellac pedicure because she was too lazy and didn't want to do it. My friend stood her ground and said she wanted it anyway. She didn't use the color polish she asked for and got up several times to help other people. In the mean time, another customer came in and she told her to come back tomorrow because they were too busy. The customer said, "where's your sister?" She said sorry, I can't help you today. The customer said, "you're not sorry" and left. In the mean time, the man who was doing my pedicure was banging on my feet hard with a paddle. I have surgery marks on my ankles and heels that are very obvious yet he paid no attention. When I went to pay, the rude daughter checked me out. She charged my friend $45.00 for her pedicure! I believe the price should have been $30.00 and the pedicure and service was so terrible that I didn't give her a tip and I walked out. She stopped my friend and demanded a tip. These are her exact words, "I need a tip and she didn't give me a tip". No joke! I will never be returning and plan on calling the owner on Monday to complain. Very friendly, but the quality was very low especially when paying for a $40 high quality dip manicure. My nails are very uneven and the shaping on my nails is very bad and my cuticles are very damaged now. I wanted to love this place so much, but really am not happy with my results. Waste of money! Wantes shellac but was convinced to try dip. I went ahead and did it and it was horrible. Who pays 35$ for nails and doesn't have there dead skin cut? I asked them and they said no..then the top coat was burning. When I got home I noticed dips and bumps and my dead skin snagging everything. They look like thick chunks instead of neatly groomed nails. I got a massage on ONE hand... My toes are terrible and I upgraded to spa pedi only to have rough heels and more dead skin The top coat wasn't put on correctly I was cold The nails weren't filed The whole thing cost about 77$ and I totally regret it Please go elsewhere !!!!!! The lady skipped so many steps in the fill process, she was literally finished in 10 minutes. She missed spots on every nail for the acrylic, I had to point it out to her. Also, she tried to use an old paper towel to wipe my fingernails after I washed them. Then she tried to give me a different color than what I asked for, because they don't have their polish out like regular places and I guess they ran out of black polish. Waste of time. Bad service. I got nails and one of them was to "curved" and they didnt want redo the nail, they just kept filing it down. Also i was there with my mom and she was also pretty upset because they didnt really do what she asked for. Over all im just gonna come back. Read Less

I came in on my vacation for a pedicure and gel manicure and was really disappointed. I am pregnant and was really looking forward to a good foot massage, but it was just ok. Maybe because I selected the basic pedicure, but that's what I usually get at other places. I picked a really cute pastel peach polish and they pulled the matching gel color for my nails. The colors did not match at all (the gel was bubblegum pink) and the gel manicure was super streaky. When I pointed it out they said some colors are just streaky. It hasn't even been a week and my color is chipping. $56 for both services including tip. I wouldn't recommend going back and I'm mad I didn't have time to go back and have them fix my gel manicure, but I was short on time due to being on a trip. Read Less

This is a great place but the service is extremely slow. I've been waiting for an hour.I wanted to get up and leave go somewhere else. I got a shellac manicure and their basic pedicure. I just moved to the south end so this was my first time here and I was immediately frustrated. None of the nail color samples were labeled with what they were for so I picked colors that were normal polish, or not shellac multiple times. Then they give me the laziest manicure I've ever seen in my life. I bite my nails but even when I went to my normal place they did an amazing job filing and cutting the cuticles. Not so here. The polish was messy and I have had 3 nails peel in as many days. The reason I get shellac is because it stands up to all of the work I do with my hands. When they did the second color they got the first color all over the other nails which makes it look messy and sloppy. The pedicure was "fine." I would have saved my money and just gotten my toes painted if I'd known it would have been such a let down. I went with two other women and they were fine with their pedicures as well. My mom and I came in and there were 2 ladies working and only one other customer. Both ladies were working on the one customer and left my mom and I waiting for over 40 minutes to even get the water running for our pedicures. She left the water cold after we asked to make it warmer for us, and seemed annoyed when we said we wanted a manicure too. The plastic lining in the water for the pedicures wasn't staying down so I had to use my feet to keep it down and wasn't able to enjoy the soaking and jets. Fortunately I have never had such frustrating service to make me want to leave a review, but DAMN! I'm visiting Washington and currently an International Model and happen to have a shoot this weekend. I'm from Texas and we girls take our nails very seriously keep in mind. Now I arrived at the nail salon at 1:10pm and was told that there was a 15 minute wait. Mind you, I am just getting a fill and gel color change. I waited without being acknowledged until 2:15pm and at this point I over heard 4 ladies come in needing a new full set without appointments, and as usual you wait until they can you up, I promise these women did not wait longer than 10 minutes before they proceeded to sit with a technician. So I continue to wait 15 additional minutes and now ladies are leaving and technicians are becoming available yay for me right! - WRONG- Someone walks in with food and they disappear to the back, so I calmly stand up and leave just as I'm leaving the counter lady comes out side to stop me and I tell her I waited over an hour and says "oh so sorry" I leave. I return at 7:00pm and the guy says "20 minute wait" I say "ok" and take my seat it is now 8:17pm and 2 ladies have come in and seated with technicians before me and on top of that half of the staff begins cleaning dirties and leaving for the day. The gentleman named back and says "Oh sorry what did you need done again?" I respond with "a fill and color change" he looks.... Smiles ... Says "oh ok" ... And walks aways counting money.. it's 8:20 I leave for the second time today rude rude RUDE. I'VE NEVER WAITED SO LONG TO BE ACKNOWLEDGED AND HELPED. I have been going to Star Nails for a few years now and until recently I have been very satisfied with the service they provide.  My last two visits I have been very disappointed - the most recent visit being today (Aug 26).I will say the place is clean but can get VERY VERY noisy when the women start chattering VERY loudly in their native language, which I feel is very rude to the customers.  I am fine with them talking in their native language but is it really necessary to talk so loud.  I feel they talk so loud the dead can hear them.  Then I have to mention when they are eating in the salon they have no manners at all.  I am also fine with them eating, but is there a reason why they can't close their mouth and chew.  Is it really necessary for them chomp on their food like a cow.  The woman who did my pedicure this afternoon started eating when she was finished with my pedicure.  Even though she was across the room, I could hear her eating her food, not to mention I could see her chomping on her food like a cow.  Took everything for me not to shout out and tell her to close her *&@# mouth!  I thought it was gross.The final kicker and reason why I will NOT go back.  The woman who did my pedicure asked for her tip before she would run my card.  Had she not done this, I would have given her a better tip than I did. I love this placs, they have always been very nice and respectful. They are professional and have always done good work. I didn't go to them for like a year and a half due to financial reasons but when I came back they not only remembered me but asked about how my family was doing. I came to this salon because the one I usually go to was booked for the day. I came in and no one was in the salon except for the employees. As soon I as I walked in everyone was very warm and welcoming. My pedi/mani was a reasonable price and looked great. Also the salon was very clean. I came in on a Monday at 11:30am and was hesitant because of the poor reviews. Maybe I just got lucky because they did a great job. I was the only person there and I got in right away. This place offers the best value for a pedicure I've ever been. And when I say "value", I don't just mean this is the least-expensive pedicure ever; I mean that this is the best pedicure at a very competitive price. The best pedicure you can get underneath your Gene Juarez's/eastside/downtown high-end spas. For $20 dollars my feet are soaked, polish removed, nails cut, cuticles pushed and trimmed, nails buffed, feet pumiced, feet and legs exfoliated, massaged and moisturized, and nails painted - and they do an EXCELLENT JOB. I've been coming here for about 2 years and I've NEVER had a bad pedicure. Thus anywhere else I go that charges more for a pedicure (which is basically everywhere), I feel like I'm paying too much. And every other salon that I've looked for in the $20 up to $30 range I've been disappointed because they just don't do as good a job as the ladies here do. So, I never go anywhere else for a pedicure but here. Designs, shellac and gel tips on toes will cost extra but reasonable. They also do some really cute nail designs and they're quite well done. For any men that come here, I know the foot massage is the highlight of your visit: it's usually only a couple minutes, more if they're not busy, so depending on your expectations, be advised of that. The salon is quite clean, and they have an autoclave for tools. I did see an earlier comment about the pumice stone and files being re-used per customer, and I wanted to share my own recent revelation (by Sally's beauty supply, not this salon) that those tools can be sanitized in the autoclave also. Whether this salon does that in between every customer, I couldn't say, but I thought I'd share because it brought me some peace of mind. All that said, I have to say in all honesty that getting a manicure is for some reason a little different, thus the four stars instead of five. While the price is as competitive as the pedicures are, I have had some slightly disappointing manicures here. I don't get mani's very often - for me I just can't afford to. Nothing too terrible, but just... kind of off; the little things, ya know? My recommendations: ask for Kim (usually you don't need an appointment here, but for a mani it wouldn't be a bad idea), get shellac if you can (shellac is my favorite and I think for this salon it's the best manicure product for your money), and if you do get gel tips specify how thin you want them (maybe that is just my preference but otherwise the gel gets layered on pretty thick). They also offer waxing but I can't speak to that because I've never gotten it here. Prices seem competitive. All the employees speak Vietnamese as their first language, they speak pretty good English but the accents are a little thick. They all have a really good sense of humor and have been kind and polite to me. So to sum up: the best and absolutely fantastic for pedicures; pay attention on manicures; very clean, and nice staff! Went here for a pedicure and got suckered into getting a manicure. First thing I noticed was that the ladies DO NOT WEAR GLOVES. Gross.Second, the lady that did my pedicure did a good job. BUT the older lady who did  my manicure was HORRIBLE. My cuticles looked like my 5 year old cut them and my nail polish was all over my skin. She definitely did not take the time to make sure the polish was applied in a clean fashion. I thought she was going to come back and clean up her work, but no. I got a much needed manicure today from One.  She was very friendly and did a great job.  The salon is very clean, which is nice to see.  They must have a strong following as in the 15 minutes I was there they had two clients come in, both they knew by name and what services they wanted.  This place is a great value vs. the expense of a Salon like Gene Juarez. I really love this place. I have gone here multiple times and the ladies are SO friendly.  I took my daughter to get a mani/pedi and they were SO amazing with her! i wouldn't say this was the BEST place that i've ever been to, definitely not something to write home about, that's for sure. returning is questionable. the service was so-so, the place looks pretty clean and decent. love the decor.  *two thumbs up* for the microwave sanitizing tool oven. being the anti-germ freak that i am, i am questioning the pumice stone because i don't think that it's new for each customer. kinda gross to think about the possibility of some bunions and fungas being rubbed off from the previous customer. ECK. my gf asked for an additional service and the owner mentions that she can do whatever she wants, except that there would be an extra change of $10.00. i couldn`t help it but to giggle because it reminded me of that "angelah johnson nail video." y'all know what i'm talking about. my gf was somewhat offended because she asked, "what? do you want me to pay now?" LOL i find that it's very tacky and unprofessional when they tell you, "ok, that will be $5.00. that's going to cost you an extra $10.00" etc etc. we get it, extra services will cost extra. i had the french tip done and not wanting to be rude, i don't like it. because it looks like just a line and not really defined well.
