I asked for layers and showed a picture. But the lady who cut my hair decided to do their own thing and I ended up with layers that made me look like a mushroom. My layers weren't blended in and was heavy on the top and very thin at the bottom. My hair is normally straight without having to straighten it and now my hair is flowing in many different directions. I have been coming here for five years now and honestly, the female hair stylists are great and the guy isn't so bad either. Also the prices are great!  I usually pay with cash, but the other day I forgot to bring enough cash with me and paid with  card. The haircut was $14 for a men's haircut and I know for a fact that they only charged me $14 in the store. I gave them cash tip of $5 and not card tip. Few days later, I see that they charged me $18. Knowing that in the store they charged me $14, I knew that they forged the card tip and charged me $4 more.  I know it's only $4 but I feel I have been cheated since I gave them a great tip as well. I would recommend people to come here but make sure to only pay cash. If you are paying with card, make sure to keep your customer copy and write down how much card tip you give them. Quick service, and affordable prices! Weekdays are pretty slow, but there could be a bit of a wait on the weekends. I have pretty long hair so my cuts are about $25. This has been my go-to hair salon for a haircut for the past 4 years, and I have never had a problem. I've had my hair cut by several of the workers, but Danh (the male worker) usually cuts my hair and he does a pretty good job. I read previous reviews about him cutting your hair shorter than you would like, but I noticed it's because he just wants to cut off the split ends; which is better for your hair in the long run, otherwise it'll keep splitting lol. Best nail spa in Ottawa. I am very picky an particular about how I like my nails done. This spa does a beautiful job at creating natural looking gel nails . I have tried many places and have been disappointed because the polish chips within one day, but J's spa uses the best brands and their technique of application is perfection, I literally have traveled, been in the water for days, wash dishes etc, and can trust that my nails will stay absolutely intact, this is so importa...nt because I am a busy mom of two that does a lot and can not be too worry about my nails all the time. I have quit going anywhere else and will always come here because whenever I get my nails done here, they last for 3 weeks or more. The location is perfect! Right in the middle of downtown, so getting out of the office on lunch break to get them done in a pinch is definitely double and if you are driving, parking is accessible right next door and free on the weekends, very convenient. If you try them one time, I promise you will not be disappointed. Also the eyelash extensions.... omg THE BEST, so natural and last a LONG TIME, I am a swimmer, so imagine the amount of water my eyelashes get, from the pool and my lashes are always perfect. This review is specifically for the male hair cutter. I came in and asked for a trim, specifically 1 inch. He gave me attitude and rolled his eyes about the length and told me he would cut 2 inches. Ended up cutting around 4-5 inches. I'm so upset. No wonder you have such bad reviews on here. LISTEN to what your customer wants, fix your attitude, and learn how to do simple math. There is a guy working here that honestly shouldn't be. If a customer asks you to  specifically trim a little bit off, you'd expect them to follow some easy directions but nope, he decided to do his own thing. What a joke. Unfortunately this place has no knowledge on what customer service is, they do not know time management and the concept of an appointment. The focus in this review is the owner and hair cut person named HELEN. If she considers you her regular and the next time you come for a haircut and decides to go with a different stylist, she takes that personally and either that stylist gets fired or she won’t entertain you whatsoever. My wife and I came into 99 hair on July the 11 2015, we called hours before to make an appointment with Dan, Helen was the one who confirmed and answered the phone. We arrived and nobody entertained us or gave us any status on how many clients are left before it was our turn. 1 hour has past and finally we inquired, it turns out that HELEN never informed DAN that we made an appointment. HELEN taking the matter personally that when we decided to go with DAN for a haircut made us wait and made us feel uncomfortable. HELEN of 99 hair is completely unprofessional. Not a bad place for a hair cut. I normally come to this place once or twice a month. Usually this place is busy, so you might have to wait at least 10-20 minutes. Their hair cut is great, but if you needed a certain hair cut style you might struggle. You might need to explain what needs to be done few times. The prices are reasonable, unless if you want to include your goatee then that will be a not reasonable extra charge. Read Less
