Star Nails in Edgewood/ Milton has always been a friendly place and do a great job making me beautiful!  They are on time and on point.  The shop is clean and they take appointments & they a good job with walk-ins.  They make dudes feel welcomed!So Yelp is now telling us how many words should be in a review.   What an arrogant company they've become.  I used to really enjoy Yelping and trusted the reviews were based on actual people doing the review. I got a pedicure, but they didn't put liners in the tub, no massaging lotion on my feet and she cut my big toe with a utensil that hurt and the next day my toe was red sore and infected. I will never go back or refer anyone to them. Read Less

I didn't mind being asked to pay for the service ahead of time, but after I gave the money the woman helping me stared at me with a frown and said that most people pay the tip first, then continued to stare at me until I gave her a tip. I was in a hurry and didn't want her to do a bad job if I didn't. The atmosphere was very unfriendly.I always tip, but it is not something that should ever be demanded prior to doing the job.When finished, she pushed my hands under a UV light, nicking one nail.  I didn't have time to have it fixed so left it. I used to frequent Star Nails and as soon as I became a regular customer, known by name, I started being put off by the owner. I'd come in with an appointment and if a new customer came through the door, I'd have to wait while they were taken care of first. This happened a few times before I found somewhere else to go. I've been here probably six times over the last five years only coming here as an emergency every time being totally disappointed in the finished product,  overpriced rude staff . I even brought my granddaughter's here one time for a special day and the little one might have only been three and a half but she knew her pretty toes got messed up when then putting her sandles on her,while wet... I am happy with the job I got on my nails but I didnt care for their tactics on price. I got a fill and a manicure with black tips and white line. The fill is suppose to be 15 and she said the manicure 5. So, I paid with a 50 and she said "manicure, 25. I give you 20 back. So I don't understand why the price jumped an extra 5 and then didnt care for how brazen she was to ask for a five dollar tip, which is what I give to people who do my nails. Very rude employees!!! The gal that did my nails gave averting dirty looks that walked in. I did like my nails though. When I asked if the receipt to sign had a spot to add tip she said no tell me how much. I told her 2 dollars and she said something in her language to her co worker and walked awa real fast. I've been going to Star for about 4-5 months. The first few times my nails turned out great. But for the past 2 months (about 4 visits) the quality and service has continually declined with each appointment. The attention to detail flew out the window at some time during those months. For example...my visit 2 weeks ago I had one nail that the acrylic had cracked and another that lifted. About a 1/4 of the way through my fill I noticed she was ignoring those troubled spots  I asked if those things were fixable..of course she said "No." I then asked if she was going to fix them. And rudely she said that each would be $3. I have never had an experience at a nail salon where the Manicurist  wouldn't automatically tell me my fill would cost extra because she needed to something. It seems pretty obvious most women that get manicures would want it to look how it's supposed to! I don't understand why she wouldn't say anything, it made me feel as if she didn't care, and wanted to get to the next client. That same visit my Mom had a fill, Shellac, and her eyebrows waxed. the Shellac cracked literally within a half hour, and A LOT of wax was left on her brow. My Mom and I had an appointment yesterday. (I had to wait a half hour because they had just started on a walk-in) I needed a completely new set put on because EVERY nail had lifted after only two weeks. (My white tips usually last three visits) Again, they protested about me wanting them to put on a new set! When it was almost time to pay, she told us the total. A few minutes later she asked how my Mom would be paying (by debit card) She raised the price by $10, and gave a vague answer, that made no sense as to why it was now more expensive (something about having to fix something?? I have no idea LOL) In light of our recent experiences, my Mom decided to tip 15% instead of her normal 20-25%. In front of a semi-busy room she told my Mom "You not tip enough." When did gratuity become mandatory? A monetary way of saying "Thank you, you've gone above and beyond!?" As a bartender, I realize the importance of gratuity. But, I would NEVER expect a tip, let alone DEMAND one! I will be taking my business elsewhere, and suggest you do as well... unless you want to gamble getting poor service, and sub par quality as punishment for not tipping as much as they dictate! ANNIE IS RUDE!! I just left Star Nails in a BAD MOOD! I was in a great mood when I walked in. Aren't we supposed to feel better after being pampered? The best part of my experience was the chair massage during my pedi! I can get that at any nail salon! I tried to make small talk....another bad idea! She became progressively rougher with me, especially after she asked me what kind of design I wanted and when I told her she told me she only knew how to do a flower. Why ask me if you only know one? I found myself trying to make HER feel good about HERSELF instead of the other way around, until I gave up because there was no making this chic smile, and then I just got p*ssed and she could tell. Sorry, no tip for you, except this lovely review (which I never do). So Annie, good luck sending your daughter to college! I'm a single Mother too and let me tell you, it pays to be nice to people! Had to put at least one star but trust me I'd put none if possible. My fiancé and I sat 40 mins over the apt waiting. They finally started his feet and I still wait for another 20 for a manicure. The place I like to go double booked us and I needed to get my shellac redone on my nails so they would look nice at my son's college graduation. We went here because it was local and they let us walk-in. I know they have a lot of loyal customers, but it was just ok compared to other strip mall nail salons. The ladies who worked there weren't the greatest communicators with us as customers, but they sure enjoyed talking to each other. A LOT. That always makes me feel slightly uncomfortable because I think they are saying mean things about me. The shellac was the same price I pay elsewhere, but the manicure was hurried and the shellac started chipping before I even made it to the following weekend, so I kept my hands in my pocket for the graduation. Ladies that work here are very nice! Love how they do eyebrows! Don't try and force an arch that isn't there!!! Pedicures are great! Wasn't 100% satisfied with my manicure as the paint came off a little over a week later and it was shellac. Lady did stay past closing to finish up everything I wanted! Overall great place! I have been a customer of theirs for several years and will unfortunately notBe going back.  They say they open at 9:00 am, but I waited for 15min before they actually opened the door.  There was 2 of us waiting and they proceed to ask us to come back because they have appointments at 9:15am.  It was 9;15 and thier appointments were not even there, they were late or didn't show up! Horrible service. Worst customer service ever. Ended up adding additional charges that was never asked for in the first place. They will try to confuse you by throwing numbers around and when your ready to pay it ends up being more than what was discussed. We tried to explain why we were being charged so much and they got mad at is for bringing it up. Then proceeded to talk about us in front of other customers to blatantly be disrespectful. When I come in and say I want a FULL SET of nails but I want Shellac that means- I want fake nails and a shellac polish. Not a manicure. That also means, I understand that costs extra. I was giving this place business even though I was never really all that happy with their service and the way they did my nails. Not coming back here to get my nails done ever again. When I finally realized she wasn't doing it the right way and told her about it she didn't even seem like at all she was willing to fix it. Like it was going to be a big deal if she had to. Went with my mother to get pedicures, they said the wait was 5 minutes, it turned into 45 minutes before they got started. Rushed service, my lady nicked the side of my big toe. Charged my $10 for a flower design. Save your money and go somewhere else. I will never go to this place again. As for my mother, they bawled her out for wanting to switch chairs, the massage chair didn't work. Complained that it would cause them to run out of hot water. I've been to this nail salon a handful of times and each time was a good experience. The most recent visit was on a Sunday in the afternoon. It was a little busy. All three nail techs that were there were working with someone when I arrived. Waited about 20 min for someone to help me but was worth the wait. I recently moved to the south sound and have tried a couple of places here. My experience here was ok.. They did a great job with painting my toes and nails, but I felt they rushed a little and I had to go home and remove excess paint as well as smooth rough fingernail tips. My cuticles are a little dry as well.. not the best job, but the staff is friendly and the shop is very clean. So, I may try them one more time... Everyone has a bad day. Read Less

After trying almost all the nail salons in Milton I have to say my mom and I are willing to drive the extra 15 minutes to go anywhere else. The people here do an okay job on your nails but heaven forbid that someone other than you pays for it. My mom paid to have my nails done here as a reward for going above and beyond with helping out. When they realized that my mom was paying they all but yelled at me for letting her pay. Everytime we have gone there the staff has been rude and inconsiderate. So I've never done a review for beauty stuff cuz I usually go to restaurants but let's try this lol I went here to get my nails done for my junior prom because I was recommended this place by my friends at school. I will have to say the lady who was working her magic on me was like my mom lol. She was so nice and sweet (minus the scary part of my mom haha) and we had a lovely conversation about the randomist things. I actually asked if I could have my boutineer for my date to be set in their refrigerator while I was there and they were really nice to have gone out of their way to make sure they could help me. I got a manicure and pedicure, my toes painted (the lady did a really nice design on my big toe hahaha) and french tip and it only costed $40. I didn't know how much to tip her but I seemed pretty reasonable to give her 20% since I was on a budget. I will definitely do there when I go up to my friends prom this year so they'll see me again lol Read Less

i hate being the first to review something. it's like i'm letting a super secret place out into the world.  i'm afraid that one day i will walk into this place and there will be like a 30 minute wait.  but that's okay. cuz i love tina and all her sisters.  four of them total. they all work there together.i received a gift certificate to this place from my man on my birthday this year.  i was going to another place in milton that i won't go to again because they made me feel rushed.  they were not thorough when clipping my cuticles. but this is not a review for the crappy place, this is a review for Star Nails.  and they are awesome.tina (one of the owners) did my nails.  i asked for the black tip nails and she suggested a silver line with it as well. COOL!  i will also post a photo of my nails so you can see how FLY they look.  she was SUPER thorough with my cuticles and she was really sweet.  you can tell the salon is pretty new.  all their pedicure chairs match, and everything looks new and clean. plus they have a HUGE selection of magazines to look at which is important to me :)i've found my new nail place.
