I recieved a spa day as a birthday gift. The massage and facial were fantastic!!! I get pedicures monthly so I was a little let down that the pedicure I recieved did not include a foot or leg massage with lotion. I needed that after the harsh scrub they used. After visiting many Richmond spas and nail salons over the years, Perception has become my go-to. The environment is very calming and relaxing.The salon and tools are very clean and well organized. Mateen is always friendly, welcoming and accommodating in person and on the phone. The staff are always friendly, prepared and thorough. I get basic manicures, shellac manicures and pedicures on a monthly basis with Kim and am always satisfied with her meticulous work. I have purchased a monthly membership and intend to add a massage to my menu of services on a regular basis. This was my second time visiting Perception. I decided to go with the Herbal Detoxify Infusion Wrap. It was not like wraps I’ve had before. It states they use cotton wraps that have been boiled in herbs and soaked all night? They used a thick towel not cotton wraps and it didn’t smell of any herbs at all. So it just seemed like I was wrapped in a hot towel. The pedicure was nice except she didn’t spend any time massaging my legs. I had a manicure with gel and Katie did a fant...astic job! She was thorough and they look beautiful. Because they were so nice I will try again with a massage or another wrap in the future. I came back today 12/2 and had a 90 minute massage by Tsondu and omg it was the best massage I have ever had by any masseur. He was absolutely amazing especially with the deep tissue. I had been here once before and had a great experience. That was about a year ago. I went into get a set of gel nails. Everything seemed great, she did the dip method. I went to pay and my total was $65. They called me back and said they didn't use shellac so it should only be $50. But then the nail technician said that it would be an extra $5 for the SHAPE. I asked for almond and apparently that was extra. Then I got home and realized my nails weren't smooth, they weren't straight. Don't let the nail technician cut all of the skin on your fingers off. I didn't realize until it was too late and there was a big pile of skin in the technicians nippers after she cut all of my cuticles off and tons of skin on the sides of my fingers. There was some burning when she applied alcohol and then later that night my fingers were sore and very red. I took an ibuprofen, applied some neosporin and emailed the salon later that night to inform them that I was having a...dverse reactions to the manicure. Their response: an apology, an insistence that I should allow my cuticles and tons of finger skin to be removed in the future or tell the technician not do this---and then they added a note that they were cancelling our 3 pedicure appointments next month (I took two friends with me who also had appointments and we were hoping to make it a regular monthly event). My objective was to let them know about the skin issues so this might not happen to other people (I didn't ask for a refund - I simply stated the fact that I was having a lot of pain as a result of a service they provided)- and they rewarded me by cancelling my appointments for me and my friends. I wanted to like this place, but unfortunately their service was sub par. I came in for an eyebrow waxing. Admittedly it was a little over due. They have two options, eyebrow maintenance ($14) or eyebrow shaping ($15). I still had some shape so I figured maintenance should be okay. The lady was nice but said maybe five words the whole time. Usually I get asked what I like, what I am looking for, etc. I just figured she was good at her job and could tell I just needed a little cleanup. Wrong. Because I didn't get "shaping" she made sure I had NO shape. She waxed my eyebrows so they were two straight lines of hair above my eye. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it! She literally took away ALL shape, even natural shape. If she would have told me that things were a little too overgrown that I should get the $1 "shaping" I would have had no problem approving the switch (although I still don't think I needed that service). Additionally, my eyebrows can get a little long, so usually the cosmetologist trims them up so they looked groomed, but not her. I left and went straight to another salon to see if they could fix the damage. To try and get a little shape back they had to take way more hair than I've ever had taken, and my eyebrows are not very dense so it looks like I am just missing part of the middle of my brow now. I've been to a lot of nail salons/spas - what girl hasn't? But this is by far a personal favorite. The nail salons I've frequented in the past fall into two buckets. They're either no frill, completely lacking the peaceful and serene experience. Or they are overrun with people and noise, more like a get in and get out. That isn't the case with Perception. They mostly operate on appointments and don't take on more than they can handle which helps to create the kind of tailored experience you'd want from a nail spa. When you walk in, you totally zen out and forget the worries of the day. There's even lemon water and tea while you wait. It doesn't smell of hazardous chemicals. And best of all, they use natural products. I've been twice so far and my shellac manicures have lasted longer than ever. I am completely sold and will be back! Read Less

Bought the Stress reducing manicure​. The technician was very nice and did a good job with the French manicure, but it lasted barely 36 hours. I took my mom here for a Mother's Day pedicure, without really knowing much about the place since I don't live in Richmond anymore. We had a great experience! The massage chairs are super comfy (though it took me a little bit to figure out the controls) and the stylists were very sweet and accommodating. Another perk: the space doesn't reek of nail polish.The products they used smelled so good, and apparently they blend them themselves. I appreciated that they were made with essential oils and coconut oil. We just got a normal pedicure, but my feet felt so refreshed afterward from the massage and soak. And my toes still look pretty good, almost a month later! I don't get pedicures very often, but I think this place will become a regular stop for our future mother & daughter outings! Read Less

I have never been here before and was looking for something really nice, comfy and safe for me and my husband to get a pedicure done together in my last two weeks of being pregnant. I had done my research and seen so many great reviews on this beautiful earthy spa. I felt right at home once I walked in. We were treated very well, we truly felt special and appreciated. They offered us tea and water. The bathroom was clean. Our pedicures couldn't have been done better. I got a mani/pedi and massage as a birthday gift. The massage was mediocre, not the best. I could have done without it...The pedicure lasted a long time, however the gel set didn't last a week. Every daggone nail fell off and it was a hot mess. In haste, I forgot my iPhone charger. One of the employees contacted me to let me know they had it, however, when I called back to let them know I was coming in to pick it up, it was gone and so was the employee. Since the gel se...t didn't last, the employee promised to make sure it was done over. However, when I called to retrieve my charger and make a new appointment, I was now told, well he's no longer here so we can't honor what he promised and we don't know where the charger is. That's not acceptable. I was then told that the manager would contact me, and it's been more than a month or two and still no one has contacted me. I loved that this place was "organic" but the service is horrible. I'm a business owner and that's just bad business and bad customer service. My understanding is that they also own the restaurant across the street.
