The massage therapist Kayla was amazing, she did a relaxing massage. She deserves 5 stars! My rating is for the experience outside the massage. Maureen, she was friendly, however I had to inquire about the refreshments she already promised as well as she insisted on a 20% gratuity prior to check out. I usually tip between 18% and 20% at spas depending on satisfaction. I also never had to inquire about what was already promised and I've never been approached that way about a tip before. I visited for a last minute Very Naughty Brazilian wax appointment. My service was completed by Maureen. She was very friendly and made me feel comfortable throughout the waxing. She chose to use both hard and soft wax. I am very happy with the result and would recommend her services. If you are unfamiliar with the area, this business isn't located in the best part of Norfolk. However, it does have its own parking lot and the shop itself is very clean and nicely decorated. This place was amazing. I just got back from a 8 month deployment and they gave me some TLC! I got a massage and it was the best I've had in this entire area. I also got a facial and my face has never been so soft. And to top it off I had a mani and petty and they took such care that you couldn't even tell they've been in boots for 8 months. Used salon on my elopement day for hair and nails. I wear my hair natural and rarely let others do my hair. My hair came out beautiful and I would return without a second thought. Really disappointing.....They offer hairdressing services but not a well experienced hairdresser, I received a coupon for a promotion but was charged more than what the owner even quoted me on the phone, again the hairdresser was not knowledgeable enough to properly treat my hair.  My hair did not last 12 hours.  The owner rushed the hairdresser to finish my hair, I'm just very disappointed....What was done to my hair my 10 year old nice could have did!!!!! On Saturday I went for the spa services. I had a wonderful massage and a excellent facial.  (The only reason you see stars at all). I decided to book additional services utilizing the salon.         So I arrived  for my appointment today at 5 pm, I was taken right away by Mary. My hair was washed, conditioned, blow dried and finally braided in preparation for crochet braids. Now this is my first time having any kind of hair on my head that wasn't  my own.  So I dont know what to expect,  so I am trusting the stylist.           That was my first mistake.  The style I asked for called for curly hair and she pulled out straight hair.  So I asked and she assured me she would curl it to get the same look.  My second mistake not leaving at that point.  So I was quoted 3 hours, now it's 2am and she is "finished". Mind you, I have two bags of rods in my hair and no one wants me to have to spend 45 minutes under the dryer, so I am told to go home and complete the style myself.        What. ....I have to get up at 6am. Let me remind you it's 2am and I am not even home yet.  Needless to say it's now 3 am and I can't lay down because there are a million rods in my hair.  So pissed off.        I can't believe I paid for this,  so I am asking the stylist questions.  When did you last do crochet braids? A few months ago. Huh? I seriously think it was her first time.  What a complete mess,  I think she is still in hair school.  So now I am questioning if she is a licensed stylist.        I am beyond disappointed,  this was my first and last time. I will update tomorrow with pictures and information after I reach out to management. Because words cannot express how I feel.Okay so it is 0845 and it took me 30 minutes to get all the rods out and the hair is still straight. WTH? I left a message for when they open. What a disaster.So here we are at 1230, my hair has been returned to it's normal status. Maureen was noticeably upset and apologize for what I endured. I was provided a full refund and the crochet braids were removed, my hair was washed and styled by Monika. Thank you Monika for coming in on your off day to rescue my tresses. The spa is breathtaking from the moment you enter, very modern. We had appointments and arrived early, but the services started a little late. Would have been nice to enjoy the Relaxation Room while we waited. The Very Naughty wax with Maureen was superb. She's an expert and truly puts you at ease. I went to this hair stylist (Justin Corbell)on a referral. He turned into a very irresponsible, lowly person. Had 2 cuts and he promised that I could get a in-between bang cut for free like everyone else promises. However he did not want to do it when it came down to the day. First of all HE is the only one that schedules his appointments. So I texted him when he did not return the call. Over a period of two weeks he played RUN away with me and then blamed me for his strange behavior and justified his unprofessionalism for 'my rudeness' . I was only trying to make an appointment and he kept being non committal and unwelcoming. I have no clue why he thought it was okay to treat his customers so poorly. Perhaps poor company he keeps. He not only ruined an excellent relationship with a very loyal referring customer but also the referral person at Aveda. Completely uncalled for. Read Less

I will start off by saying Maurine gets 5 stars on her own. She's THE BEST eyebrow specialist I've ever been to, however, this review is for a hair stylist at Anjella Paulette. I first came across this hair stylist at Aveda (same place and day that I came across Maureen). I loved how he did my hair (this was back in July) so in August when my fiancé invited me to the Navy Ball, I called this stylist and made my appointment for October 4th. So we set the appointment, he seemed to remember me and he sounded. On September 1st I received a text from him asking if he could verify the date of my event, I assured him October 4th. Fast forward to September 24th, I emailed him because I didn't write down the time for our appointment on October 4th. I didn't get a response. On September 27th I sent him a text, and I waited a couple of days and I received no response. So I thought I wasn't going to have a hair stylist so I then made an appointment at the Ulta salon in my city. Well on October 1st he contacted me, let me know the time of my appointment. I decided to skip on my Ulta salon appointment because I've had my hair done by this stylist before so I'd rather get it done by him this time. So fast forward to October 4th. My fiancé and I went to norfolk to get some uniform items for him, we didn't want to drive back to Newport News so we ended up getting to this salon at 12:20. (My appointment was at 2:00pm) my fiancé and I sat in the parking lot and chilled out until about 1:30pm. Maureen greeted my fiancé And sat us in a "back" lobby. Around 1:40pm I received a text from my hair stylist saying he was going to be about 30 minutes late. I was fine with that. Around 2:30 my fiancé and I moved to the front lobby since we assumed he would arrive soon. It seemed as though someone else was waiting for this same hair stylist. I sparked a conversation with him and he said he scheduled an appointment at 1:30pm with this hair stylist and he was moved to 2:00. So I was immediately thinking my appointment was going to be pushed back some more. At that point I was looking at other available appointments at Ulta. The stylist arrived arrived about 2:45-2:50pm, right as I was looking for appointments at Ulta. Apparently the gentleman who was waiting for him and had the 1:30pm appointment was told to come back another day. He didn't get his service that day and I feel horrible because he waited more than an hour and was turned away. I was willing to wait for him to get his hair done because he said it usually doesn't take long. Anyway, my hair came out nice but I waited nearly an hour. And someone else waited longer than an hour for an appointment he never got which I feel is extremely unprofessional. The one positive is that This stylist charged me $20 less than what I was quoted. But overall I don't think I will see him again. I'll definitely go back to the salon but not to see him. I take the time out to be early to my appointments and I'm the client. If he has not enough care to do this for a service he offers, then I don't either. And last thing, he said it was nice to meet my fiancé and I which is nice but he met us prior to that appointment, and worked on my hair prior. Maureen remembered the both of us which I appreciate. I knew this stylist didn't remember me though because on a text he said "do you have a relaxer in your hair? It should be $65 and that's with me not knowing your hair" (mostly along those lines) which tell me he didn't remember us. while the services are amazing. this small business needs to get its act together or it won't be around long. The first time I got my hair done, my debt card kept showing an error message, instead of offering solutions the receptionist told me to call my bank and that told me that every time they run my card it charges THEM MONEY (excuse me...I'm a broke college student, sorry to hear about YOUR BUSINESS'S PROBLEMS.) but with all that aside I recently booked a second appointment to get my hair done for an event I have. The salon called me at 6:00 PM the day before the event and asked me if I could possibly change my appointment time...very unprofessional in my eyes. Maybe I'll give this place another chance because the hair stylists are amazing and friendly..but the receptionist and business tactic is down right wrong! Read Less

Will not be back, and will not recommend!  Right off the bat, this place is hard to find there is not a single sign with their business name on it, only a sign that says salon in front with an open sign.I wish that the services didn't take so long, I have never had it take 45 minuets to just get my nails buffed, which is what they describe as a manicure. Also my "coupon book" said that it was a manicure and a martini, never saw the martini. I have had many manicures, usually lasting about an hour, but those usually include a trimming of the nails, paraffin wax dip, polish, top coat, and small hand massage, then drying of the nails. Also it was so cold in there, my hands were freezing sitting in the most uncomfortable chair for my "manicure".Then when I had my massage, I checked off on the sheet that I didn't want my face or head massaged because I had to go back to work, which I thought was weird anyways, I have never gone to a spa and had my head massaged. She told me I was taking away most of what she does, then I was "massaged" I should have asked to see her certificate of completing some type of massage schooling. It was not a very good massage at all, I feel like a 13 year old could do the same work, her hands were freezing as well and the oil smelled burnt, was not a pleasant experience.I though about going back to redeem all my coupons in the booklet I purchase, but the chairs for a pedicure look so uncomfortable, I will not be back that is for sure. Great experience, luxurious services, and skillful techs.I have been to this spa several times in its old location, and I loved it there because the staff was knowledgable and friendly.  Since the spa moved and expanded, the experience has only improved!I recommend any of the skin care services as well as the massages. With the skin care, consider purchasing a package because regular visits seriously help you see an improvement in your skin. I recently received a microderm/chemical peel combo and I'm positively glowing now. (Note: this service may not appear on the spa's menu, but the owner, Maureen, customized the service after asking me several questions about my skin care goals.)The new spa space is modern, spacious and perfect for spa parties. I'd love to host something there this spring.The only drawback: it can be tough getting an appointment, so book in advance, come early to enjoy the relaxation room, and only cancel if it's absolutely necessary. This place really surprised me! It looks newly renovated on the inside... Loved the simplistic and modern interior design. They have an amazing little waiting room with the perfect ambiance and music playing. Theresa is an excellent massage therapist and I would highly recommend her to anyone.
