I would give NO STARS if I could! This place looked nice and clean from outside, so decided to give their FACIAL a try- the Worst Mistake ever. They said the facial would be 1 hour long with “lots massage” but it was 40 minutes ($72 plus tip) total filled with lots of rubbing questionable products on my face, NO massage, and whole lot of small talk!! I have had many facials before and hot steamers were used before the extractions to open up pores; BUT at Modern, aesthetician had a HOT steamer on my face for 90% of the duration of facial which is really strange and can actually harm the skin! They also use cheap $3 paper sheet mask (like those from Tonymoly after so called “extraction” ALONG with hot steamer ( yes, sheet mask plus hot steamer on your face!) In fact, she scraped the side of my nose with a metal scalpel and caused breakage of small blood vessels which wasn’t there before. I was seriously fearful this facial session would cause more damage than good, and seeing big old bottles with no product names or expiration dates made me even more nervous. I wanted to run away mid session if I wasn’t pinned down on their paper sheet covered bed with just a towel covering me. Korean aesthetician even had the audacity to try to up sell pedicure and manicure on top of her lousy “facial”! Take your money elsewhere these people are not honest, but crooked smiling scammers. Key words for my experience here: unhygienic, unprofessional, lots of hard rubbing of your face NO FACIAL MASSAGE, stinging peel, $3 Tonymoly facial SHEET mask, Hot water steamer on your face from start to finish (even when she puts on the finishing lotion), empty compliments to upsell other services, RUN AWAY!!! I have never written a review, but literally the WORST gel manicure I've gotten in Northern Virginia. 1. Was charged for gel removal when I literally had the smallest speck of gel on 1 of my nail tips 2. I asked for all black and picked out the color, when she was finished I noticed a green glitter on my nails (very subtle, but still not what I was looking for). When I mentioned it, she acted like it was no big deal and that sometimes they get mixed? 3. My nails are sooooo thin now. They're bending with the gel on I can't even imagine how bad they will be when the gel comes off which leads me to number 4... 4. I got them done yesterday and one has already chipped so these probably won't even make it a week. Not sure what kind of polish they are using, but clearly not a good one. My experience was horrible. I came in around 6 pm and had to wait a long time just for a pedicure. The tech who did my pedi was fine, however, I had a gift card and they said I could not use it due to there being no money on the card. The card was unused and given to me as a bday gift. I had to call my fiance who had given it to me to come and verifiy that he had indeed paid $35 for the gift card. It was such a hassle and they took no responsibility for the mishap. I will never go here again. Oh, and might I add that when I paid cash for the tip, I was given the incorrect amount of change back. That was the icing on the cake. Good in a pinch but I’d highly recommend going elsewhere. Walked in just fine, but the lady who worked with me (Tiffany) was just there to sell me other services and turn me over so she could get to other customers. She didn’t even look at my nails as she was filing them, and my fingers straight up flew out of her grip when she was using the e-file. I’m not a professional, but I do know a bit about the tips, and she was using the wrong one at the end. My cuticles are torn up!! There are plenty of good nail salons around, and you will get better service. They charged me $110 for my nails and she didn't do anything I asked. I've been twice, different nail tech each time. Both experiences were mediocre. My friend has literally followed Natalie to different salons she loves her so much, so I have been when we were having a girl's day. It's the only place she goes. My first time I just had awkward interactions with the girl. It was fine. Nothing special, definitely not thrilled with the price for what I got. But the work overall was fine. Went back last week. Friend and I splurge on pedis because we work retail and our feet take a beating. My girl barely put any effort into mine while my friend seemed to be in heaven with the scrub, lotion, and massage. My nail tech was friendly enough, manicure was fine. I like a simple gel, let her talk me in to a design on one nail. Still overpriced but, I rarely spend that kind of money on my nails so whatever. My biggest issue is that after this manicure, my cuticles are in hell. Cracked and bleeding, so painful. My hands are a mess, and my big toe hurts too. She even gave me a look when she was clipping that cuticle, so I feel like she knows she cut it poorly. All of this to say, I won't be going back any time soon. Read Less

Nice facility. Clean and well appointed. The guy who greeted me and my girlfriend was very upbeat. The ladies who seated us immediately started trying to push us to additional services. We told them we just wanted pedicures, but they were insistent. When we did not relent, they became sullen. The one doing my pedicure seemed to be trying to saw my toes off with the nail file. I asked the one working on my girlfriend's feet to pay attention to the callouses she has from high heels. The lady was clearly put out and reluctant to do it. When they finished, they just walked away. A simple pedicure is $35 before tip. I'm guessing you have to spend lots of money to get treated like a customer. Ouch! I have pretty sensitive and ticklish feet but I've never flinched in pain during a pedicure before. She cut my toe nails so short, shaped them weird and left my toes so raw they are swollen and sore to the touch the next day. I couldn't help but wonder if I was being punished for not selecting a simple pedicure even though I did get a manicure (which was fine) as all. Seriously, take it easy! Read Less

Not happy at all with my visit. The massage was fine but Van always digged her nails in my toes which hurt a lot and she wasn't able to paint my nails neatly. I told her and asked if she would mind doing the toes again and she did but it still doesn't look very professional. I spend 45$ and I'm not happy. I'ma keep it simple....Momma often said, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything".My Tech rushed, was pushy, not personal and wrecked havoc on my nails with the electric sander. Her gel manicure was the worst I've had. It barely lasted 3 days. Mind you, I wear gloves when do dishes and do not utilize my nails as tools to pick things. Always do a horrible rushed job with my nails. I'm stupid bc I keep coming back due to convenience but it's always the same story. Rude employees, laugh at your requests, sarcastic when you ask them politely for things, and rush everything. They applied the wrong color to my toes and insisted they didn't, finally I found the color they should have used so she puts it on top of two of the wrong coats...guess what? My nails never dried (see photo below). I requested chrome nails ($20 extra dollars) plz see how horrible their work was. Your supposed to apply a clear coat all over the glitter so that the color underneath doesn't show...of course she did a sloppy job and so many bumps. I had to attend a wedding the next morning like this. ABSOLUTELY NEVER GOING BACK. So inconvenient. I have to go back today to get all this fixed and spoke to the owner over the phone to request my $70 dollars back which she denied and hung up in me. If you do come here I'd only recommend Tammy! I can only base my view on my single experience with Dung. I got a mani/pedi, and she did a great job. I appreciate the actual time she put into the salt scrub and lotion massages; far better than most places. She also knew I was from out of town, but she still put in great effort. Alas, I am the jerk that left NO tip. I asked if they took Amex when I arrived, but they didn't tell me I could not leave a tip on a cc. I don't carry anything other than an Amex. ABSOLUTE WORST NAIL SALON! Their prices are WAY overcharged. They don't inform you of the services they just chose to do the MOST EXPENSIVE service on you without asking then charge you. I asked to speak to the manager on the phone they told me he wasn't there and that they would call me back they never did. I was standing outside the the store when they told me he wasn't there and he was sitting at the desk. He then takes your complaint with a grain of salt. I wouldn't come here even if someone paid me! This was my third visit to Modern Nail Studio, and definitely my last. The first time I went was for a manicure, Chloe was great, but I guess I just got lucky with her. Second time, I came for a mani/pedi and requested Chloe. Again, she's great, takes her time and is a perfectionist. I was so pleased and for a second didn't miss my regular nail place. On the other hand, this last experience will definitely be my last! The lady that did my pedicure, Chi, was so disrespectful and did a terrible job. She started the pedicure with "Your friend is getting a 10 minute massage so we will finish first, I don't want you to think I'm going fast." I was like okayyy, but just laughed it off. Next she very aggressively used the pumice stone on my feet to the point that it hurt to walk, each toe nail was filled to a different length, not to mention some where rounded and others squared. When I asked if she could make sure they were all one length she replied "they all look the same size to me honey, but you can check." Even a lady sitting next to me interjected and told Chi that some toe nails were longer than others. Needless to say, she was not happy to hear that. Then Chi happened to see a customer who was picking her nail polish and started a side conversation, no big deal, until she told the customer that if she gives her 15 minutes she can take her next. Keep in mind, that she did not even begin to put the nail polish on my toes, and still had to do my manicure. Time for polish, another nightmare, Chi was not putting the polish all the way to my cuticle which made it look like my nails had grown out, so I asked if she could do so, her response "I know honey, I'm not done yet." Like okay, thanks, clearly I know she wouldn't have done so unless I corrected her.By the end of my pedi I had had it with her. I suggested she could transfer me to someone else, especially since she had told the other customer she would see her. Chi very rudely stated that she wasn't rushing and would still do it, but if I wanted someone else that was fine. I didn't want to be rude, so I said it was fine and that I'd stay with her. At that point she mumbled to the ladies in Vietnamese and then moved my stuff over to another person's station without telling me, the other lady had to tell me she was now seeing me instead. The next lady I must say was an improvement, but still all nails were a different length, some square, some round, polish not all the way to the cuticle. UGHCherry on top, I took my nail polish off at home and my nails were all stained blue. Something that has never happened to me no matter what color I have ever had, only difference, I didn't get my nails done here. Clearly they use a cheap base coat. Talk about a stressful mani/pedi. 3 days! My gel manicure only lasted for three days! Why? Because the technician named Tammy couldn't get off  her cell phone long enough to properly do my nail service. The nail drying light seemed to have a short in it as it flickered continuously during that part of the process. When I asked her to do a 2nd dry she refused, said it was fine and that it didn't need a second time. 3 days later both of the thumbs have peeled and I don't have time to go and get them redone before i have a big meeting. This was the most lack luster mani/pedi I've ever gotten. I came here instead of my usual place bc of time constraints and regretted every moment. Let's start with my pedicure. She asked if I wanted regular or spa pedicure without giving me a menu or explaining the difference. Asked for a menu where there is no such thing as a spa pedicure. I did decide to splurge and got the lemon pedicure. BIG NOTE the menu also says a foot massage is extra?!? WHAT?? So I'm paying $55 for a pedicure and if I want a foot massage that's an extra $10. I opted outLemon pedi it is. I was looking forward to the hot towels on my legs but they were barely Luke warm. Scrubbing of the feet...nah. No massage at all. So lame. Mani time. I got a gel manicure. She proceeded like anyone else did. Small wins. However, never asked me to wash my hands, which I thought was weird. My polish looks good except it doesn't quite meet my cuticle so it looks like it's grown out already. The expected hand massage here was more like a hand rub, no pressure what so ever. My friend and I stopped by this salon today while shopping when we both decided our nails could use a little TLC. We didn't really know what to expect but we saw the place had decent reviews so we gave it a go. This place definitely has pros and cons.PROS:- They were very quick, which is fine if you're just stopping by during a shopping spree.- My nails and my friend's turned out very pretty and we were both pleased with the quality of our manicures. - They offer you free beverages.CONS:- Once again, very quick. This could be a pro or a con depending on the type of service you're looking for. If you want something quick you'll be pleased, if you want to feel pampered you're going to feel rushed and leave disappointed.- This place is SO EXPENSIVE. My usual nail place is $30 for a shellac manicure, and it includes paraffin wax, a hand massage, hot towels, lotion, cuticle oil, etc. This place did hot towels and lotion (kind of slapped on, not massaged in).- It did seem like my technician was rushing quite a bit (for example the hot towels were only on my hands for probably 15 seconds, lotion "massage" was more or less nonexistent). I don't think I would be willing to pay this much for such a quick manicure again. The amount of time spent on my nails was not equivalent to what I paid for. They asked a couple times if I wanted a pedicure as well and after looking at their website I'm glad I said no because those are also very expensive. Long awaited review!  I've been coming here for a little over 2 years now.  Once a month for a Pedi, Mani and now for Bikini / Under arm waxing. Phoung is my go to Gal for Manicures including Gels, Acrylic Overlays, Fill-ins and Waxing.  She is the best! I'm extremely picky and her attention to detail and perfectionist style matches with my personality (LOL).  My Mani with an overlay and gel lasts up to 3 weeks before having to go in for a re-fill. Lisa is great, as well and does an awesome job with pedicures. Ask for the deluxe package, you will not be disappointed. *Tip - Do not go in, as a walk in because Phoung/Lisa's seats fills up quickly.  It's best to always schedule an appointment and arrive on time (before or on the dot) or you could risk losing your appointment to someone else. Trust me, I had to learn the hard way.  It's located in the mall, so they receive a lot of randoms (LOL). Pros- Phoung/Lisa are perfectionists with attention to details. Expect a lot of pampering from them. - Unlimited Champagne, Mimosas, Wine, Green Tea, Soda and Water. - Acrylic Mani last up to 3 weeks before having to go back for a re-fill.Con- Only Con, I have is with pricing of services.  It's higher than most nail shops, BUT the benefit is it last a lot longer. *Be Aware!  All of the technicians do not provide the same type of customer service. I. Must say I enjoyed my time here with Brenda! She did my pedicure  and made sure that I liked the designs the other technician was doing . She asked if I like it . To make sure if I was pleased I've got the avocado pedicure . The smell was just amazing . She put the avocado spread on my legs and feet . I didn't get the modern treatment . My friend told me i got the chocolate treatment . She offered me and my friend wine or anything to drink. I just liked the customer service from Brenda . She told me if it messes up just come back. If I didn't live so far away from here I would come here for pedicure  treatment . Next time I will try chocolate . The price was too high though  73 $including designs and tip for my pedicure .
