So let me preface this by saying that I have never gotten a professional manicure before and wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but I certainly wasn't expecting what I got. When I got there this morning and asked for a manicure, I wasn't surprised to learn that my technician didn't seem to speak much English. However, I learned over the next 35-40 minutes that her English skills were too limited to communicate about the "spa" manicure I was receiving. I normally do my own nails--I basically went in because I figured that they could shape my nails once, do a better job that I would do, and that I could just let them grow out after that. Boy, was I wrong. She got to shaping my nails--the whole reason I had gone--and did a terrible job. My middle finger's nail on my left hand was completely lopsided, and my thumbnails are now significantly shorter than the rest of my nails. I can't fix that, because I've tried to even out my nails' length before and I just make it worse. I tried to tell my nail technician that I was not happy with the job she had done at least twice, but she did not understand what I was saying. She then pulled out what looked to me like an electric nail file, and asked if it was ok. ("Is ok?") I assumed that she was going to fix the shape of my nails, so I said yes...then watched in horror as she shaved off the top layer of my already weak nails. I assume this is normal for a manicure, so I almost didn't mention it, but I feel that I should be able to ask questions about what is about to happen to my nails and feel confident that they will be answered. In retrospect, I should have tried to stop her, but that probably would have just confused her. I also wasn't expecting to receive a paraffin wax treatment, so I left my ring on, and she didn't take it off before she forcibly plunged my hand into the hot wax--I guess she didn't have the English skills to tell me what to do. Now my ring is crusted in wax. It's soft wax, so I honestly don't know how to clean it off. Right after she took off the wax, she asked for my credit card payment. In the middle of my manicure. Just tacky. I shouldn't have left such a good tip, but I felt bad and figured they probably don't get paid very much. Then she got to the polish, which was almost as bad as the shaping job she did. I asked for a glitter polish, not realizing that it didn't have a color mixed into it, and, to her credit, she did take off the polish and layer black under it. That said, she did a horrible job. The polish was lumpy and peeling off at the top. I literally redid it the second I got home, I was so upset with the way it looked. I was encouraged to see that this place only had two stars, because I left that place swearing that I would never get a professional manicure again. I honestly could have done a better job at home--and did, the second I got there. My technician (whose name I thought about asking for but ended up not bothering because I was sure she wouldn't understand what I was saying) did a terrible job and did not care that I was clearly displeased with what she was doing--facial expressions transcend languages. Needless to say, I will not be going back. Read Less
