I love this place!! It's not the prettiest or has the highest end amenities, but they do great work!! From gel, to acrylics, to pedicures, I have not left disappointed in any service I've gotten. They do tend to get busy in the evenings or on the weekends, but once they get started, I'm in and out in about an hour. I've lived here over 10 years coming from New Jersey where our nail expectations are pretty high, even though I'm not snooky... LOL and this is the best nail salon if you want your nails designed properly and you don't want boring nails or French nails that are something that you can get done anywhere.  Tony has done my nails magnificently over the years no matter what design I choose out of my head or modify from a magazine or an online picture , but don't expect to have bling hanging off of your nails -  I've never seen him do that so I don't ask... but he does hand paint he also does the spray so he can spray on pretty little designs if you want but for me I love hand-painted beautiful works of art designed. note: don't expect fantastic hygiene you may have to remind them from time to time to soak the tools or clean them if you're not the first one there and they're rushed Read Less

I went here after Christmas and had not been here in years. The nice people working here always do my nails so good. They did a nude color coffin style I wanted and it hasn't chipped or anything. I have to say they were pleasent to be around. They talk to me and are very resourceful about the DMV. They have been around a long time and care about Thier customers. First time visiting Nail Design and will be my last time.  For starters, this place is extremely small (4 pedicure chairs and approximately 5-6 nail booths) with outdated equipment.  So if you are looking for something extravagant, Nail Design is not it on appearance alone.I did a walk-in visit and was told I had a 15-minute wait; which was accurate.  I received a pedicure and gel manicure.  Upon arriving home, I noticed on my pedicure the left over polish from my previous pedicure and the second coat was applied approximately 3/4 of each toe; which means she did not do a thorough job.  The manicure was a little better but also noticed after doing my hair the gel polish (DND) started to chip.  I assume the nail tech realized this because she kept emphasizing how gel polish is different and they can never tell the outcome.  Which by the way I've never experienced at Worldgate Nail (my regular Nail Salon).I was a little disappointed how some customers came in for a walk-in and was told to come back tomorrow as they were extremely busy.  However, minutes later, other walk-in customers came in and was told to wait a few minutes and pick a color.  I'm not sure if this is in reference to the sign they have displayed on how they can refuse service to any customer. I used to go here for about 2 years straight, every two weeks or so for my acrylic fill but I recently fond a spot that's better. This place is alright and all the nail techs do a fast and cheaply priced job but I noticed my nails just kept breaking here. I don't know if there was something wrong with the acrylic powder quality or what but I was just over it and started going to perfect nails next to the best way in Herndon. It's about the same price but they do a much slower job which is sometimes inconvenient but they actually make sure it's perfect. And since I've started going there my nails haven't broken at all and it's been a few months, nothing else in my life has changed that would affect it so I'm sticking with perfect nails. UNHYGENIC, UNPROFESSIONAL, AND RUDEDO NOT GO HERE!!Second time coming here in 5 years. First time, the eyebrow woman waxed off more than half my right eyebrow and held the mirror to my left side. I was in such a hurry that I didn't notice it until 20 minutes later as I walked into a job interview. -_-Today, after wanting to give it another shot I went in to remove gel nails I had done somewhere else. The guy doing my nails was incredibly rude from the beginning. He was constantly on his phone, watching videos on his ipad, or just flat out ignoring me. After finishing up my hands the bowl with acetone was filled with nail shavings, gel polish chips, and dirt. To my astonishment, he proceeded to pour it back into the bottle. I asked if he reused that on other clients and he said yes. I told him that it's not hygenic to use such a dirty, contaminated product on clients. He just looked at me blankly and was like "It's not a problem." When I said that it was clearly a problem he just rolled his eyes and sighed. I spoke to the manager and he was the same way. I asked for clean acetone to be used on my feet instead, he said no. And then the guy who was doing my nails laughed and was like "Ok so we won't do your feet. Just pay, leave, and don't come back." This was all after the manager openly bitched to a customer about how people get mad that this place messes up their eyebrows and it's actually their fault for not being specific. He loudly said that many clients are idiots and just complain so as not to pay.   Even after all that I paid because he removed the gel from my hands, BUT I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE! Very basic, no frills. My paint job on my manicure was fine but you definitely get what you pay for. I.e. 15 second hand massage and I had to ask for her to buff my nails again because they were razor sharp at the edges. I don't think I'd be back because the services were rushed and the smell of the acrylic nails permeated the entire salon. I would suggest that they invest in better ventilation seeing as how it's a tiny space. I mean, with the invention of Shellac, who even gets acrylic nails anymore? Getting your nails done in the Dulles, Virginia is VERY expensive. The most expensive I have seen yet. Before I chose "Nail Design", I called various places to ask how much an acrylic fill with gel polish and a pedicure would be. On average an acrylic fill with gel was anywhere from $35 to $45... and a basic pedicure was anywhere from $27 to $33... ABSOLUTELY OBSURD I called "Nail Design" and my fill was $25 and if I would have gotten a pedicure it would have been $20. My friend and I came in wanting two gel manis. Their were only 3 people working. Two for manicures and one for pedicures. I don't think the equipment they use is sanitized probably and tony rushed to do my nails. He didn't ask if I wanted them cut or how I wanted them shaped. Do not come here! Save your money. Today I came in around 6pm (they close at 7) and when I entered no one greeted me. They almost acted as if I was not there.  They were a little busy so I let it slide. I proceeded to pick out my nail polish and then took a seat. After waiting for 30 minutes, the nail guy came up to me and asked me what I needed done. I told him a pedicure and gel polish. His response to me was that I had to pick one or the other because they were about to close. This is by far the rudest experience I have had in a nail shop. I finally found the perfect nail salon! I'm really picky with my nails because I do them myself most of the time. Sometimes, I feel like treating myself to a mani/pedi. I've been here about 4x now and I never had to make an appointment, each time I walked in, Kim helped me. She also does an amazing job. She takes her time to massage your legs, feet and hands. This is what I consider my neighborhood gem! It's like the dive bar of nail salons. I've been there plenty of times and have zero complaints. I usually get acrylic french tips, I never really use the same person exclusively so they've been done by a couple of guys now and they both did a fabulous job in under 40 minutes! Some places have taken me well over 2 hours. They haven't charged me when I asked for a little diamond on my ring finger yet and I always tip them extra for that. They don't charge a lot for acrylic or gel nails compared to a lot of other places around here and it's only $10 to get them refilled...that bargain is worth it to me! I really do love this place. Just don't come in expecting something grandiose and fancy, it's very small but very comfortable. I've never had to wait here with no appointment, and I've never made one!Tip: bring cash for tipping! Not exactly a lovely experience. The chemical smell upon entering the space is OVERWHELMING. I like to get a polish change once a week so I frequent several local nail salons. I have never encountered a smell so harsh. Should have been enough of a warning. My technician was polite however when I sat down to have my toes painted he didn't even bother to put a towel down. Not a deal breaker just would have preferred it. The nail clippers and nail file used were not from a sealed package. While trimming my toenails he proceeded to cut my large toe back too low. Que the blood. At first he carried on as if nothing happened and then he acknowledged it. No alcohol to clean it up...he simply wiped it away with a tissue. This is by far the filthiest and worst nail salon I have ever been to - hands down.Let me start with the good part - The lady who did my nails "Lan" was pleasant, even though she got a little irritated when I tried to explain to her that I didn't want my tips so thick and white.My pedicure:  To start with I don't even know why she bothered to put my feet them in the water at all because there is no way the calluses on anyone's foot would have soften by then.  She proceeded to to do the foot scrub even before the water was even completely filled up.  Her tools did not come from an individually sterilized packet but were in some dirty old looking metal box. She didn't apply any lotion and put on the nail polish without the base coat.  She cut so deep into my cuticles and I flinched several times from pain and eventually had to tell her to stop.My manicure was worse because.  The dust on the table was so thick it was unbelievable.  Again no base coat, no lotion or hand massage and several untouched spots especially on the sides of each nail.  The premises its self is very small, dingy and everything so filthy I know will catch some disease if I continue going there.  The pedicure and nail job were also the worse I've ever done.  I won't even pay $10 to get that service and the health risk I exposed myself to.  The nail polish on my pedicures usually last for about 2 weeks but it started peeling and wearing off on just day 3. My manicure fared even worse.  I'm writing this because I wish I had a clearer idea of what this place was like before I decided to go there.  Hopefully, this will help others with their decision making.
