The good: The shop is really well lit and looks clean. Staff is very attentive and courteous. They offer you water. The bad: I left with two bleeding cuticles, so instead of showing off my freshly manicured nails for the next few days, I’ll be walking around with bandaged fingers and praying not to get an infection. Update- Stopped by last night since my friend was running late. I went in to get my acrylics taken off, figured I couldn't have a bad experience for removal... The technician assisting me barely paid any attention to me and my nails. She was walking around socializing with everyone in the shop for a good 30 minutes and kept shoving my hands in the acetone even though I told her I had eczema. She was extremely pushy and it was clear she did not care about my experience. With that being said, some of the other technicians were more attentive to me and seemed to be doing a great job. I got a pedicure and have to say it was less than pleasant. The lady kept digging into the skin between my nail and skin and this morning I am in pain. Not only was she not careful, she did not cut my toe nails and when I had to ask twice for her to do so, she cut them unevenly. I had to ask for the file so I could even them out. I have been coming here since the store opened and usually get a gel mani. My manicure will last WEEKS longer than other locations and the staff is always so great. I stopped in today after they had closed and Mimi still welcomed me and made the time to give me a manicure personally after I had gotten engaged. The staff at Amity are very friendly and super accommodating, which can be rare in some local nail salons. The salon is very clean, feels more luxurious than other area spas, and most importantly, has great pedicure chairs!I highly advise a spa pedicure, they do a great job!I have acrylics and have never had any issues with poorly done work or chipped polish. I've been coming here for almost 6 months staff is VERY friendly and give GREAT Customer Services. It can get very busy at times that's why I would recommend to schedule an appointment. My Mother and Aunt, and Cousin and also my Grandparents come here as well. They love the atmosphere as well. I usually make an appointment with Luna, Mary, and Kim they are great Nail Technician!!!!!! Mimi does both myself and my mother's eyebrows and they are always on point. I don’t go get my nails done often but sometimes I go as a form of self care. I went to this place because of the reviews. However, this experience was very disappointing. The technician who did my pedicure was rushing me the entire time. They rushed me into the chair before I could pick out a color and when I asked her to let me see which color I liked prior to her painting all of my toes - she got very snappy and disrespectful. I hate when you go somewhere to pay your money and people are unnecessarily rude, rush you, and have a complete disregard for you as a person. The shop was no where busy, it wasn’t as if she had other clients to tend to - she was just mean. I nicely requested for her patience and kindness but she just further got an attitude. I will not be back again, nor will I recommend others to do the same. I came simply to relax and treat myself for the first time in a while - but instead I was met with disrespect. This place is honestly amazing!! I booked an appointment through Yelp with Mimi, and as a first time guest... I think I've found my new nail place! I love that she took her time and really paid attention to detail. The location is easy to access and it is neat and organized. All of the employees are extremely friendly. Although others may find it intrusive, I loved that some of the other nail technicians would stand around and watch and compliment on the techniques that she would use. The location is awesome for anyone in North/South Arlington! Highly recommend for anyone that obsesses over cleanliness or customer service. It opened in November 2016 and is already very popular less than a year later!Location: Google Maps & Yelp current pinpoint this salon incorrectly. It's actually at the corner of S. Glebe Rd & Columbia Pike, to park in front of the salon you'll be parking across from Wendys on Columbia Pike.Parking: The covered parking garage is behind/under the retail/apartment complex. It is free two hour parking. I prefer parking on Rt 244 right in front of the salon, it's a couple dollars (for the few hours you'll be in the salon) via the ParkMobile app.Salon: It is a well appointed salon. The team did a great job furnishing the salon and taking into account customer flow. The lighting and fans at each manicure station are in excellent condition. There are 10 pedicure chairs with a decent amount of room between each. There are 12 manicure stations + 5 high top manicure stations (seated at a bar instead of traditional desk station). There are water fountains, clean restrooms, and an ATM! The lobby/foyer is spacious enough to avoid being on top of any technicians as you check in. The gel and regular polish colours are clearly displayed, they also have those palettes to look at. The color choices werent the newest OPI, so I ended up going with the DND gel colours, quality of that paint TBD. They offer you a drink as soon as they begin work, I had my own water so I didn't get to see what the drink options are here yet.Manicure: I've been with Mimi for a gel manicure based on Yelp reviews. She is just, because she is the owner, shell be managing the team/salon while she does your nails. That doesnt mean you'll suffer quality, but my manicure did take a little over an hour. I highly recommend here. She cleans your nails thoroughly and is focused on symmetry. Now, she immediately began filing my nails down after the first tin foil came off to remove my old gel, that shocked me a bit. Normally technicians will ask what your desired length or shape is before they begin working. She did eventually ask, or I told her I can't remember. The outcome was gorgeous nonetheless. She's very patient with indecisive color ppl (eg me). The "massage" portion of the manicure was very soft or really nonexistent. The manicure did include parafin wax. Personally I'd take a well done hand & forearm massage over parafin wax, but maybe that's just me! I highly recommend Mimi. I'm going to try different technicians on her team next, because I trust her judgement on technicians. Pedicure: Mimi doesn't do pedicures. I went with Kim based on Yelp reviews. I was not disappointed. However, Kim takes her time, I will now allocate 60/90 minutes for a pedicure from Kim to avoid having to rush out of the salon, or worse, rush her. Kim is meticulous with cleaning your nails much like Mimi. Kim doesn't speak English. Mimi was great as acting as a translator, because I didn't want the standard one solid paint color. Communicating my desired outcome or comments during the pedicure was difficult when other ppl were busy working & couldn't translate. She was very nice, and does her best to understand. I even used Google translate to say simple thinks like "that looks good", lol. Her work was excellent, and her pedicure massage was relaxing. I highly recommend Kim. For me, whatever it is, it's all about first impression. It was my birthday the next day so I thought I'd go the extra mile and treat myself at this fairly new salon instead of my regular spot... and I'm so glad I did! {LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT}From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with a warm welcome. Usually that's not the case in other nail salons because everyone is working and focused on their customer. Once I signed in and was about to choose my toenail color from this HUGE wall, the receptionist asked if I wanted to match my hands and feet; they had another wall with regular colors for your toenails and the exact same shade in gel for your fingernails - an absolute plus! {PEDICURE}They walked me over to the pedicure stations and I kept falling in love. The pedi tubs were covered in plastic, the tools were sterilized and packaged for every use, and the massage chairs were comfy and with many options for massages. I would've been fine with all of that, but then they asked me if I wanted water and of course I accepted. I was expecting a tiny plastic cup of tap water but instead I got a small water bottle which is way better for me. Then the owner offered me donuts and later served me a cup of organic green tea. I was in heaven- they must've known it was my birthday the next day! The pedicure was amazing and KIM is a miracle worker, I didn't even have to tell her and she removed all the callous, ingrown nails and dead skin (yes, my feet are gross). Kim took her time coloring my toes and they were all perfectly done without any mistakes. {MANICURE}Almost every time I get a manicure in any other salon I bleed because I've been told my cuticles are sensitive. However, Kim was so precise and quick, she didn't make me bleed and she completely cleaned my fingernails so flawlessly. She used 2 IV lights for faster drying, which other salons in the area use only 1 cause they can't afford to get another one. Following the polish, she asked if I wanted free parafin wax and how could I deny "free"? I loved it! {TECHNICIAN}Kim is so sweet, nice and a very hard-worker. I can't imagine going with anyone else after this visit because I'm definitely going back. The ONLY thing is that she barely understands English, which is difficult because things can be misinterpreted, but there are other ladies there for assistance I guess. Due to the language barrier, she's very quiet. Personally, I prefer quiet technicians because I go get a mani and pedi to relax and not really talk with anyone, I do a lot of that already on a daily basis. So go with Kim because she's the best! Super friendly staff and great service. I went with my daughter and they were so sweet. She got pampered with a free mani (they were slow) and nail design. The place is clean and there isn't that chemical smell other places have. The tools were sterilized and they use a disposable cover for the pedi water basin.
