I've never thought of comments or writing any review on any businesses. However, I found this nail technician was very disturbing and I happened to get her both times I have visited here. My intention was to come here to have pedicure so I can relax but the technician kept raising her voice to greet customers walk in the door every few minutes. It is so unprofessional when you are working on a customer. There were a few technicians that sat around on the pedicure chairs doing nothing in which they should be greeting customers and herself should be focus on working on me. However, if you are an owner/manager, I believe you should be focusing on managing your salon to better your customer service and have your employees work rather than having them sit around. For your future reference, most of us come in to get pedicures done, beside getting a new fresh look, we want to relax and if you don't change the way you managing and staff your employees right eventually you will loose your customers. I have visited almost all of the nail salons old town has to offer and this is by far the best. It’s kept incredibly clean, managed well, and is always busy (a great sign). The staff are so incredibly nice (grab Vivi when she’s there) and they always do a fabulous job. If anything happens after you have left the salon they essentially have a “rain check” where under a week they will fix your sns/gel/manicure for free without question. Also - there’s a parking garage on Madison a 1 minute walk away that’s only $2 after 2 hours I believe. This is by far my favorite salon, and I would highly recommend them to anyone. Even the men in old town have seemed to find this one :) Also - re the colors being more expensive. They have extra shiny colors for $5 more than the manicure. Really disappointed with the service I received here on my last visit. I got a pedicure and manicure. The pedicure was nice and I enjoyed it; however, by the time I got to the manicure, the manicurist (who also did my pedicure) seemed rushed and inconvenienced. She threw my hands around like I was a rag doll. This was the same person that did my pedicure. Once she realized she could not upsale me, she lost interest. I felt uncomfortable and unwelcomed after that. I would visit the shop again because I have had great service from others, but will not give business to this person ever again. Be very selective in whom you choose to receive services from when coming here as the service can greatly vary from person to person. P.S. Place is a hit or miss.  Had a few pedicures here and overall review is, go to this place as last resort. Not the classiest place so I'm still searching for a better pedicure experience. Also, not sure if all the workers there are legal and aside from the political issue, it's more for a safety issue on how well they are trained, licensure tracking and keeping to standards.  These are much harder to do or not do at all when they're undocumented.   So if you're willing to take the risk and on a time crunch, they are open late.  But don't be deceived by the sign, they have turned away walk-ins when they decide to close down early even though there are several techs doing nothing but are their cell phones lounging in the spa pedicure chairs.Manager/owner did my last pedicure while talking on her cell phone, gave me some sob story about her phonecall etc etc.  I get pedicures to relieve my own stress, not hear about someone else's! I wish I had a more positive experience with this salon, but unfortunately the few times I have visited have led to the one star rating.Their scheduling system is unreliable. I have made appointments online and also by phone and both times have been called about 5 minutes before the appointment time saying they can't fit me in. Why give the option to make an appointment if it is going to be cancelled? Also, if you are a business and know you are busy or do not have technician available, don't let people make appointments.Second, the quality of service is not good. Despite selecting good quality polish, my nails and toenails were chipped only a few days later. The polish was also pretty uneven and the entire job feels rushed (because it is).Overall, would not recommend. Not impressed. First off, I was picking out my color and the lady came over within 30 seconds to inform me that color was $5 extra .. excuse me.. isn’t the color included in the price of a manicure.. and not entirely about the money but this is just super rude, and also she just stared at me like my time was up for browsing the colors. All said and done it was $28 with service and a tip.. no problem there. What was very distasteful is that when I asked to get a card punch for an offer they have (after 9 punches you would receive $18 off) the lady told me in an impolite fashion that the minimum to receive a stamp was $40. AWKWARD! (9x $28= $252+ tips would be over $300) hmm seems like the minimum should be $18 to receive $18 off on your tenth visit. Getting a manicure should be a super pleasant experience. I have been going to 21 Nail Lounge at Belle Pre for about two years now, and I go to Vivi exclusively. She does a really great job on pedicures and both shellac manicures and regular manicures. I also have a persistent issue with extra skin on the sides of my big toenails, and she always gets it out and spends however long she needs to with me. I can't rate the other technicians because I got lucky and went to Vivi first. It's always easy to find an online reservation with her (or anyone) and they're very easy to work with if you need to change your time or date. Do not waste your money here!  I went for 10% off a pedicure because I received a birthday coupon from 21 Nail Lounge. The pedicure was the worse I have ever had. There was no massage. My nails were visibly ragged, and the polish was uneven and all over the place. Plus, she didn't polish the entire nail and left about an eighth of an inch unpolished. On top of the crappy job, they refused to honor a 10% off coupon saying that they are different from the 21 Nail Lounge with the same exact logo. What a ripoff! Read Less

I am SO happy I found this place. Everyone who works here is so friendly, I feel genuinely welcomed when I come in. There's a real community vibe here, the space is clean and bright and the technicians and clients all chat and have fun. The service I get here is worth slightly higher prices than the in-and-out nail salons that are common on King Street. I've seen many people here, and everyone has been great- the technicians are skilled and efficient and have great hygiene/ safety practices. They give out bottled water, there's free street parking and cheap garage parking, and the online booking system is SO convenient. They also have a punch card to receive discounted services.The reason I will come back forever is VIVI. ViVi did my acrylics for a while before getting me hooked on the new SNS powder (side note- my nails have never been stronger.) She is amazing. She is happy to do whatever ridiculous thing I want done to my nails- she'll give me advice when I ask for it, but never tries to change my mind. She checks in frequently throughout the service to make sure I am happy with the shape, length, color, etc. She is great at what she does- she performs my service faster than anyone has before but with such skill and attention to detail. I honestly don't think I'll ever let anyone else touch my nails again.Besides giving me the nails of my dreams (and my grandmother's nightmares), ViVi is such a warm, fun person. If I want to chat the session away, she is happy to chat, but if I'm exhausted from work and want to stare off into space, she doesn't over-engage me. Went in for a regular pedicure and a gel manicure. The staff was super friendly but I was not impressed with the quality of either service. During my manicure, the technician knicked my cuticle causing me to bleed, she was very apologetic but it still caused discomfort for several days. Less than 24 hours after my gel manicure, I had to return to get a nail fixed because the polish was already peeling off near the base of my nail. It has now been 6 days and my gel manicure is peeling on nearly every nail. Ive gone other places and had my gel polish easily last 2 full weeks. I recently moved to the area and was looking for a nail salon that did dip nails. I ended up here and was happy with my service and the salon was lovely. I was, however, not prepared for the $90 tab I ran up getting a basic pedicure and dip manicure. I went yesterday for the fourth time bc my experience has always been great! However, yesterday was quite different! Vivi (sp?), the owner or manager, did my pedicure. She sat me down. She looked at her phone to read a text, put earphones in both ears and started a loud & angry sounding conversation on the phone. While on the phone, she was hurried, and slamming/throwing implements down. I felt extremely uncomfortable . The phone convo lasted 10 minutes ! During previous vi...sits as I am seated, I am offered a bottle of water and their delicious crackers (looked around and all customers had both), but I wasn't offered this visit. In addition, I am ALWAYS asked if I would like to get an additional service (treatment for dry skin, longer leg/foot massage, etc., which costs a little more). I wanted to treat myself but felt uncomfortable at this point since Vivi didn't offer like the ladies usually do when I go there. I told my friends who also go here about my experience with Vivi, and they were surprised bc they like her. I did find another review on Vivi written 4 weeks ago whereby customer felt as I did with her experience. Way overpriced and crappy quality. The initial manicurist completely messed up my gel manicure (the polish pooled at the end of the nail because she sloppily put it on). At first, they all pretended like it was OK and like nothing was wrong. Finally after asking over and over to get it fixed, the manager came over and basically just kept painting the nail over and over until it looked sort of acceptable. Throughout this entire process, all of the manicurists were whispering to each other and pointing at me. This place is great when it's not busy. I love to be able to relax and not feel rushed when getting my nails done which is something I don't have time to do very often.They have amazing little crackers which I trolled the internet to find. I got the powder gel and a pedicure. The woman who do my nails was a casual and nice woman.My second visit felt a little rushed and a couple of the nail techs were not as pleasant as before. However, having had the grave misfortune of having my pedicure "done" by the nasty manager/owner, I can no longer recommend this place. I'm a regular customer, and I can highly recommend Vivi for SNS nails, pedicures and waxing. She's friendly, fast and does a great job! While 21 Nail Lounge does get incredibly busy at certain times during the week, if you make an appointment in advance (via phone or online), you won't have to wait more than 5 minutes for service. This was my first and last time coming here!Sunday, April 9, 2017: I came in for a gel manicure and pedicure. I decided not to get the pedicure because they were far too busy. They weren't very personable, I just thought "whatever they're busy". I came on Sunday because I knew it would be hard to get here during the week.Monday, April 10, 2017: the first chip on my left thumb, but it was minor so I just let it go. Tuesday, April 11, 2017: the second chip on my right thumb, this time, much more noticeable. I decided to go back and get them fixed, after all, I paid $45Wednesday, April 12, 2017: I sit in 5oclock traffic after work to get to the shop for a repair. They weren't nearly as busy as Sunday, but still not very personable. The same Tech fixes my nail. She rushes through it. I leave the shop at maybe 6:30Wednesday, April 12, 2017: I go have dinner, watch tv and then notice the third chip again on my right thumb. This time there's a huge bubble in the nail. Of course I'm furious because now I have to go to work with a janky nail.Thursday, April 13, 2017: I fight 5oclock traffic and I go BACK to the nail shop. The nail tech says AGAIN! Yes! AGAIN! Then she proceeds to tell me that oh it chips easy because my natural nail is naturally oily! I get gel nails all the time! I almost don't want to write this review because I love getting my nails done by Jennifer and I don't want her totally booked. She's super sweet and a perfectionist. I love getting spa pedis with her which are SO relaxing and she got me to switch from gel to SNS manicures. I absolutely love SNS and she's a pro. The place is modern, clean, and everyone else is friendly as well. In addition, this is super convenient since I walk right past it on the way to the metro and I don't live that far. I have had many great experiences here. They provide excellent service. I love the SNS nails (powder) as it lasts even longer than gel. I tried many different salons in the Alexandria area but eventually settled here since they provided the best/longest lasting mani/pedis. Amazing service. Stopped in as a walk in during the middle of a weekday. I was immediately greeted and put in a chair based on my pedicure request. Discount/Specials during "happy hour" - M-Thur 10-3 (I think). I ended up enjoying my pedicure so much I added a manicure and waxing services. Phenomenal. Today was my third visit for a spa pedicure. It's pretty expensive compared to most of the other local nail salons. Somehow I always end up paying $50, that's for a spa pedicure with a scrub, no shellac, no nail design, nothing fancy. This place is always crowded when I go but I call ahead when I'm in the area and never have to wait.  They have a large selection of colors and have nice relaxing pedicure chairs. I like that they keep the place clean and make an extra effort to sanitize everything so you never have to worry. They give you a small bottle of water and some type of snack in a yellow package that I never eat. I've noticed they have wine in their refrigerator but I have never been offered a glass nor have I seen anyone else drinking anything other that water.Jennifer did my pedicure today, this is the second time I've seen her. She's very friendly and chatty. She kept trying to up-sell me but after a while she realized I wasn't budging so she stopped. Wonderful experience today at 21 Nail Lounge in Alexandria. It's brand new and bonus is that it's next to Sugar Shack. . I splurged and got the sun kissed pedi with Nancy. It was $50, but I thoroughly enjoyed the extra scrub and massage. I also threw in waxing. Even though a little pricier than my typical pedi, I plan to make this my regular spot.
