Had a friend recommend her. I went to another salon to first start the process of my dark brown virgin hair to this Balyage. Wasn't happy with the results. Waited as long as I could before I couldn't stand it and went to Bri. She fixed what the other person did to make it cute! But not quite what I was looking for in that appointment. (which she warned me about at the beginning and said it would take until the next appointment to achieve what I was looking for.) Especially going from dark brown to wanting some super light blonde highlights. Came back in for 2nd session with Bri and WHALA! I got what I asked for. It was kinda hard being patient. Especially for a virgin hair colorer who just wants to go from natural hair to perfection in 1 appointment. (which I learned would have like... killed my hair.) I loved getting my hair cut here everyone was super kind. The shampoo was so relaxing and I really liked how she cut my hair. Hali cut my hair!😁 My 12 year old daughter refused to get her hair cut at Great Clips any longer. She did the research on pricing and reputation, choosing Malstrom. I made a call on Monday which was their closed day and I left a message, but first thing Tuesday morning I received a phone call and they were able to fit my daughter in that same afternoon, accommodating our busy schedule. Hali was our stylist. She was friendly, inquisitive and communicative. My daughter was smiling as 6 inches of her golden tresses fell to the floor, and she got the haircut she wanted. I went to Malstrom for the first time two weeks ago. Had my hair cut and colored by Bryson. He did an awesome job! Brycn did an amazing job with my hair and made me feel beautiful again ! I am a red head and not a lot of hair dressers can mange color with reds . Very nice , friendly , upscale affordable salon! Can tell management is good to their employees and all seem happy to be working there ! My only complaint is the parking ! Why the massage place next door has to have all 20 spots in a shared parking structure is beyond me ! The people at the massage place will have you towed and scream at you for parking in the lot ! Courtney is my go-to. I moved to SLC from San Diego almost 3 years ago and my biggest concern was "where the heck do I go for a haircut?"I am not someone who bounces from stylist to stylist, so finding someone who was a good match was really important to me. The first time I met Courtney she met me with the biggest smile. She is a great listener, always asking what your ideas are for the cut / color. She takes her time and is extremely thorough. I also need to give her a huge shout out - her highlight/ ombre/ melt is phenomenal. I have never had so many compliments on my color. I have thick hair and Courtney works with me to make it manageable.Need a solid haircut and/or want to add some color to your 'do? Courtney is your girl. ---I also get my brows done by Amber. I LOVE her work. Again, when I moved to SLC from CA I was worried about the brow situation. I have gone to 4 different locations in SLC for brows - and was disappointed every time, until I met Amber. This was my first time in this salon and I was really impressed. Bryson was the one who took care of me and he did a great job. Besides the fact that he was very nice and easy to talk to ( which made my experience really enjoyable) he really listened to my needs. I also have never received such a nice customer care at a hair salon. They offer a soothing drink and pamper you with a wonderful massage after washing your hair and they finish it with an extra pleasant surprise, I felt really good ! You have to come in to find out! I'm very grateful for my attentive, detail-oriented stylist for fixing a bad haircut I got from a different salon. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and while this place sells a lot of hair products, I was very grateful that they weren't pushing them on me. That's a major turnoff at similar places. I have been going to Courtney consistently for a couple of years now. She is so nice and I love how she feels more like a friend than just a hairstylist. My whole experience coming to get my hair done here is always enjoyable! Not to mention my hair is done exactly how I like. Courtney is extremely skilled! The other stylists seem to do a great job as well from what I see!! Only downside is that sometimes (depending on what you are having done) it can be very pricey. Bryson did an excellent job - I went in for a shampoo / blow dry and it lasted through four days of work, two heavy snows, and sleet. Unfortunately Bryson was the only good thing about my experience here. I go to Aveda salons around the country, and Malstrom was not on par. My appointment was for 8pm. They called at 7:53 and asked if I could come early so Emily could take me. I said I was already on my way, but wouldn't get there until 8:05 due to heavy rain just then. I arri...ved at exactly 8:05 (I have the Uber receipt to prove it), and Emily had already left. So I proceeded to wait, and wait, and wait while Bryson was busy with a color customer. Another hairdresser finished with her client and left around 8:15, not giving me a thought while Bryson was just starting on his client's cut and dry. After sitting behind the desk this whole time, the receptionist finally got up around 8:50 and put on her coat. I asked if she was leaving, and she FINALLY apologized for my wait - the FIRST apology I got for said wait - and then she left. Meanwhile I had ample time to look around, and the place was a mess. Product shelves right by her desk were a shambles, the waxing station had been left in a yucky disarray, and poor Bryson was left alone to deal with an unhappy customer. Tried Malstrom for the first time the other day. I got an eyelash tint and facial from Amber. Both services were wonderful and Amber did a great job. I'm very happy with the results of my eyelash tint. I also ended up buying a bunch of Aveda products from them as well, which I've been happy with. I will definitely be returning to Malstrom. I went in to get my roots dyed, and I left looking extremely streaky and absolutely nothing like what I asked for. I went back again for them to fix it, and my hair came out as an extremely orangeish blonde. They were very nice, but nice doesn't make my hair look good. I will not be going back, especially after paying $180 for hair that is absolutely horrible. Just wonderful service - I followed Brianne from the Landis Aveda salon, and I couldn't be more glad I did all those years ago! I leave there feeling so pampered, whether for a cut, a color, or for an updo for a special event, Brianne makes my experience there top notch, without being stuffy, snooty or yuppy - I would at times feel that sense just walking into the Landis salon - and I never feel that at Malstrom. Been coming here for almost a year and I recommended them to anyone!  Perfect environment ... Relaxing and accommodating to make you feel pampered but not snooty. Alisa does an terrific highlight/lowlight along with a long-layered cut; it always looks beautiful.  Love the Aveda products they carry. There is also a super cute little shop where you can find jewelry, scarves, whatever is trendy and in season. Prices are on par with other salons for highlights and haircut, but I feel so comfortable and welcome walking in here that feeling is priceless!  Highly recommended. Read Less

I've been going to Bri for years. I have followed her over to Malstrom from the last salon she was working at and I will not see anyone else for my hair! She's the only hair dresser that I have trusted enough to tell her to do whatever she wants and I know it will look wonderful, but I can also show her a picture and she makes sure we are seeing the same things so she can do it how I want it done. I've been a client of Jessica's for a little over 3 years now. When she moved to join the Malstrom family a year ago my first thought was "terrific, an additional 10 mile commute" The reality is, I would have been happy to travel 10 times that distance to retain Jessica as my stylist. The friendly and "family" atmospher of the Malstrom Salon just adds to that loyalty. Jessica is to hair color as Monet is to impressionism. She's a master. She loves what she does and it shows in her results.
