Over the weekend I went to this U.S. Nails location in Fashion Place mall to get a basic manicure. They were able to fit me in right away; the time I arrived was about 7:30 p.m. As I was choosing my color, the guy walked by me and said, "choose a lighter color, ok?" Shouldn't it be my choice, as the customer, as to what shade of polish I'd like to wear on my nails? Since my nails are barely over the edge of my fingers, I did go with a lighter color and I was ultimately happy with my selection.Once I sat down and he began to work on my nails, I became a little anxious. The polish I was wearing when I went in is the OPI "When Monkeys Fly" and it has gold flecks in it. In order to get them off with nail polish remover, you do have to be patient with it. However, the gentleman was not; he was incredibly rough and actually began to scrape off the glitter. I was nervous it would damage the surface of my nails. After the polish was removed, he began to push back my cuticles and trim them. While he was doing this, he kept glancing around at everything else that was happening in the salon and I was nervous he might make a mistake. Sure enough, he did; he pushed back too far on the cuticle on the middle finger of my right hand and it began to bleed. He cleaned it using alcohol and applied pressure. He'd get the bleeding to stop, and then when he used more alcohol, the bleeding started up again. There was also some blue liquid (not iodine) that he applied too, and still the bleeding wouldn't stop.Like other salons, this one also offers a lotion massage. He didn't seem to know what he was doing, and it didn't feel the way a real massage would. I just felt like someone was slathering lotion all over my hands and forearms and making a mess. Afterward, I went to wash my hands, and it stung because of the cut. When I went back to have the finishing touches of the manicure, a woman had sat down in his spot and he'd gone back to the first nail station at the entrance of the store. She re-filed and worked on my cuticles and was extremely gentle, which I appreciated. She quickly painted my nails with two coats of polish and then a top coat. She set up a small fan to dry my nails. As I was getting up to leave and reached into my purse for my wallet, she waved off any payment. Given that two of my cuticles ended up messed up during this manicure, I'm happy there was no charge and feel they did the right thing by not allowing me to pay. I had already decided I would not be tipping because of how badly it had hurt. This wasn't the first time I had gone to this nail salon; the last time I had a different gentleman working on my nails and I had gotten acrylics. I had no issues with my manicure then, and was pleased with it, which is why I returned. It's now three days after my manicure, and I've removed the polish and re-done my own nails. The very next day after I visited U.S. Nails, the polish started to flake off. Their prices are appealing, but the finished result is less than perfect. Shouldn't a manicure last at least 1-2 weeks?
