Worst nail job I have ever received. And one tech asked for some of my fries that I had just picked up from the wing stop next door! I actually shared. Come on now some professionalism would be nice I could see if I had food from a far away land that you can't find in Waco TX but no, some fries from the establishment housed next door every day of the week. I loved my experience today at star nails. As a salon owner myself I really appreciate customer service and cleanliness! They have both! Hai did a great job on my pedicure. The first time I went to this place, I had a great experience! Unfortunately, my usual place was overbooked so I happened to stumbled here. Even though it was close to the time for them to close, I was still given excellent service! Upon entrance I was offered a drink and was immediately attended to.. The guy stayed focused on my nails and did a great job !! I get the dip powder and they had colors I had never seen before, so I went back again today since my previous experience was amazing and I loved their dip options and it was time for a redo .. HOWEVER, Today my experience was HORRIBLE !! The lady assigned to me insulted me a few times before she could even get started !! I think she was trying to joke around, but she said I was "too skinny" and needed to eat more.. I insultedly responded that I do eat and just have a high metabolism (BC it's true, I can eat more than most grown men) .. She also expressed her dislike for my taste in nail style, saying the colors I were choosing were ugly!! How RUDE!! She tried to shortcut my dip nail process .. CLEARLY, its called DIP nails bc you dip your fingers in the powder HOWEVER, this clerk tried to use the clear stuff from acrylic nails to shape the dip onto my nail which looked TACKY !! It took me trying to tell her like 3 times to dip my nails bc I would make her start over if I didn't like the end product of how she was doing it.. She FINALLY did do what I asked after repeatedly asking her .. While I was there, 2 other customers got in arguments with employees over rude service!! Worst experience ever. Got there waited 30 min in cold water the whole time then when the lady got to me she took 10 min to do my toes.. didn't even check for ingrown toenails until I told her to do so, and she didn't even paint them correctly. I'm not picky about my nails, but this was a horrible experience all around. I went with my mom and two sisters. I should have suspected something when we walked in and were all 4 seated immediately (the shop was empty). I was offered wine, and of course accepted. The wine was terrible..sour, like it was old (and not in a good way). I'm pretty sure my nail tech was a sociopath. He smelled like he just chain smoked a carton of unfiltered cigarettes. He dug his fingernails into my hands so badly I had scratches on my arms hours after the mani. He watched soccer on his laptop while he gave me the most tortuous 20 second massage I've ever experienced. My mom's toenails were completely uneven and the polish was not smooth. My sister's shellac was pooled in the sides of the nail, meaning it probably won't last long. There are several other options nearby in Waco, I would probably choose another salon. Read Less

First time here and one of the best pedicures I had a long time. I walked in and was seated immediately. Drinks were offered. The message was good and long. Came in here to try out a new salon but if I could give this place no stars I would Their service was terrible they obviously don't know what they're doing Very unsanitary, they reuse their tools and just store them in those little blue bags to make it seem like you're getting new, clean tools. The tools that were used on me still had skin from previous use. My guy cut me when removing my cuticles and I still have cuticles and skin around my nails; not a very good job! Once he started painting there was paint all over me and he wouldn't remove it, I had to keep asking him to clean me up. I asked him to redo the manicure because it was such a poor job the first time and even the final manicure was less than mediocre. AND they double dip in their wax! So dirty, they really just leave all their sticks in the wax all day and use them on all their clients. Way overpriced for bad service. Never again Read Less

The good: the salon is nicely decorated. The staff is friendly. Soda or water is offered. The wait time was almost non-existent. The service was 30 minutes (longer than I expected).The bad: my nail tech was less friendly than my friend's and rushed off almost 5 minutes earlier than my friend's to go serve someone else who'd walked in. Since she was in such a rush (she was an older, very skinny Asian woman with short hair), the polish applied on my toenails was put on a very thick coat. 2 hours later, it still hadn't dried. I was very careful, but figured since 2 hours was up, they must be dry but they smudged. I paid too much money for smudged nails. The coat was way too heavy for only 1 coat -- 2 hours to dry?! Either that or it's old polish and time to be thrown out.The ugly: she cut off too much cuticle. My big toes were sore immediately after. The next day, they'd split open ever so slightly and bled a tiny bit. Even though it wasn't much, I'd rather my toes not bleed at all from a pedicure that I paid $45 for. My pedicure was on Friday 6/26 and it's now Monday 6/29 -- my toes are still sore.I was visiting on vacation and was hoping for a little R&R before the long trip home. Okay so ran in here yesterday to get a fill and cut down. I didn't get original nail set here but it's close to my job and convenient.  The man doing my nails made me uncomfortable with his remarks and almost too-personal questions, fine. The reason I'm writing this, is the because he convinced me to do gel, instead if regular polish, I agreed. About an hour later I'm working and look down and my nail polish is cracking. I went back today to ask them to fix it. Come to find out, he didn't even use gel polish, he used regular polish and put the gel top coat over it, which is probably why it's chipping and cracking. He walked up to me and said since it wasn't this way when I left, it's not his fault. A woman fixed one thumb nail using actual gel polish, and then proceeded to use the same regular polish/gel top coat that he used on the other cracked nail. She only fixed two so I'm sure the rest will be cracking away soon. They NEVER apologized and said "you must have bumped your nail"....seriously? Very poor service, never going back. I'm still searching for a great nail salon. This one was better than the last but still no good. At least it was clean. I'm convinced no one in Waco can paint nails. They try to put pre- painted tips on me. The paint I asked for was pretty simple yet she made a mess of it. And it took her 2 hrs just do the the acrylic. It was smooth but extremely thick. I asked her to put a curve in my nails, she didn't know how so they are flat. She told me she had been doing nails for 35 yrs, I don't think so. She cut me twice. I told her to stop and she wouldn't. I always watch them while they are doing my nails. This made her mad, she told me to stop watching her do my nails and watch TV. She was extremely rude. I'm very picky about my nails, everyone sees them so I expect them to look good. They don't. She has a very thick accent. They do offer you a water or soda which is nice  but I'm still going to keep looking for a good nail salon. Read Less

I went today, Labor Day, and it was very busy! A lot of the other nail salons were closed, so my first impression was that they were very busy- but this probably isn't their normal rate of business! I go to school nearby so this was my first nail salon in waco, and it was good! The staff was accommodating and promptly seated me and asked if I'd like a beverage, which was nice. I'm not too impressed with the aesthetics of the shop, I'd definitely do some remodeling. And it doesn't look like it's thoroughly maintained, so that's a con. While it is apparent that they do clean, I think for a nail salon the cleanliness is very important.Now for how they actually did on my nails- satisfactory... I asked for a mani/pedi French tip, and the pedi was good!  But the mani wasn't too stellar, definitely not the best I've had, and could use some improvement. Though you should keep in mind this was one employee's performance, and this critique only pertains to the French tip I got- she might've specialized in another area of nails!I've decided to give Star Nails 4 stars v. 5 stars based on the aesthetics, cleanliness, and overall job performed. I went to Star Nails to get a gel manicure and a pedicure. The staff is very friendly and talkative; I liked that they actually talked to me and not to each other, excluding me. They offer you soda or water, which was a nice touch. The hours are great as well--open until 7 pm on weeknights and they are even open on Sunday, which is hard to find in Waco. The shop is clean and all of the equipment looks sanitary and well taken care of. My nails look great--I'm definitely going back! Read Less
