It was based on the reviews that my BFF and I chose this place. But we were so hungry and wanted to eat while having our nails done to kill two birds with one stone. My experience at The Retreat was speedy and affordable. Stopped in Friday morning and was seen immediately. So quickly that she started my service without me choosing a color. That's usually a turn off for me but I give everyone a chance to recover. When I had a free hand, I finally made my decision. A very pretty fuschia. During my visit one customer came in for a full set after myself and I got the feeling that even though there were other technicians available, the lady doing my nails was the one to do the new customers' service. At that point, she really pushed on the gas pedal. Sped through the rest of my service so the new customer wouldn't have to wait long(which is great for the new customer but I felt gypped) I would've appreciated a color check before applying the top coat since I would've liked another coat for more vibrancy. Sat through a very brief hand and arm massage and it was over. I didn't even get any cuticle oil. Felt like I was there for 20-25 mins. I feel I am being pretty nit picking considering how fast and affordable my experience was. If that's what's you're looking for, I hope you have my same experience. Not sure what all the hype is about. My mom and I came in at 3:30 on a Wednesday. There were two other customers and 3 workers. My mom had to wait nearly 45 mins for a worker to be available, no problem. The woman did not get any dead skin or scrub at all. The water was cold, even though I told her about it twice. Love love love this place. I went in 45 min before they closed which is awful on my part, but my nails were AWFUL! Anyway, Mary and Alice were so nice, and since I was the only person there I was treated like a Princess. I was only expecting sub par service since I came so late, but Alice took her time to cater to my feet and even stayed 30 min after closing. My nails look wonderful and it was super cheap! Needed someSaturday afternoon R&R and was able to get right in. Clean shop with friendly staff. The experience was amazing and relaxing. I literally fell asleep for the first half of the treatment. Decided to try this nail shop out, because it seemed affordable, which it was. Heads up if your going on a Sunday which I did, it is by appointment only. Mary and Alice took us anyway and gave us a wonderful service. The pedicure was so relaxing and they did a good job. Also got my eye brows waxed. I recommend Mary highly for your eyebrow waxing. My favorite nail salon in the city went under new management so I was desperate to find a new one. After many reviews, this was by far the most affordable option for a quick fix.I called right when they opened for some pricing the the lady who answered was very kind. She was nice enough to suggest I make a reservation because it would be busy. Good thing I did! I came with 2 other girlfriends, and there were only 3 ladies working. I was a little frustrated that it took a while for us to all be able to get our services done because of the lack of staff, but they were all so nice it didn't matter.There was a great color selection, and they had a great selection of Zoya colors. My manicure was more than my pedicure ($25 and yes, it was shellac), but it was missing something I believe the owner did it and she seemed a little rushed because they got busy by the time she worked on them. I realized that they didn't even cut my cuticles which is the main reason why I get a manicure in the first place. The lady who did my pedicure (for only $20 at that!) was so so great. She was thorough and took her time. You got oil, hot stone, and a small lotion calf massage. Very happy! Visited mid-afternoon for the first time as a walk-in. Place had three other customers plus a chatty friend.I selected the deluxe pedicure and conventional manicure. Chose an Essie color for fingers and OPI color for toes. They also have a large, well-maintained Zoya selection. The deluxe pedi was amazing! Lotions, scrubs, hot wax, hot stones- all before the polish ever went on. The polish looks impeccable. The young woman who did my toes was pleasant and attentive and did good work. First impressions of the the place aren't stellar.  It was a little hot and stuffy when I walked in.  The chairs are mismatched and decor leaves much to be desired. Which is why I am only giving them 4 stars.  But there is a big BUT here:Surprisingly the pedi chairs massaged well.  The staff was super kind and accommodating.  Even so much as to ask me my name and introduce themselves.  The salon looked and smelled clean.I came in for the $20 cheap pedicure...and left with a MUCH-NEEDED hot-stone, foot-and-calf massage that ranks up there as probably one of the best I've ever had.  And I've had a lot pedicures.  The actual nail work and polish was great.  Great polish choices.I can't believe it was only $20 plus tip!!!  When I'm back in the area, I will return! Delightful and thorough staff. Comfortable facility tucked away off bellaire I will definitely be back. They even have the toxin free zoya polish line. Awesome! With nail shops on every corner...quality and customer service is what makes a nail shop special. From my initial phone call to walking out the shop (an hour after closing) Mary and Alice were super sweet and caring.
