Monica Marquez is not only incredibly talented, she is a fantastic stylist because she is a good listener. My hair is exactly as I've envisioned it, only better now because of her. I think it takes great skill to do hair, but it's even a greater skill to be able to listen to your clients needs and, dare I say it, read between the lines. Sometimes clients don't know how to articulate what it is they want. Monica's intuitive capacity cannot be understated. My girlfriend had her hair bleached and colored here. She showed clearly what she wanted and didn't want. Over the course of the long visit they kept dialing back what they would actually give her, and ultimately they stopped a long distance from what they promised. They are the professionals, they should know upfront what they are comfortable with and what's possible. If they promise to deliver something they should stand behind that promise. At least their goal should be t...o make the client look better than when they walked in, and to me there's no question that in this regard, they failed. In the end, they refused to refund the cost (over $550) and to add insult to injury they offered to fix the problem they created for $120 more. I showed pictures of exactly what I wanted (black roots melting into purple with pink ends to hide my roots) and what I didn't want (stark roots showing with a uniform peach pink color). I've never spent so much money and time at a salon and been so unhappy with the results and I've had my hair fried. After +6 hours I walked out looking the exact shade of horrible I didn't want, but now with an even more visible outgrowth. I was promised a Keratin treatment and I didn't get it because my hair "didn't need it"... not true. I asked for a redo which would have cost at least $120 (FOR A REDO) since Bella only fixes it for free if they feel they screwed up, which they didn't feel they did this time... also not true. I walked in get a conditioning treatment for my dry hair and then Im paying 350 dollars for something that did not take evenly to the hair! Its a hair nightmare! Love this salon! Everyone is genuinely friendly, the music is usually good, and you can sip on wine or other beverages during your service. They also have a great variety of carefully selected products (including all natural brands like Eufora). I'm in love with my incredible stylist Samantha Martin (@samsfeelgoodinc on IG) who expertly interprets my ever changing hair cut & color desires into a shiny, healthy looking reality. I've been seeing her for several years and wouldn't dream of going to anyone else. I am SOLD. After moving to Austin from Los Angeles I was nervous about finding a place that was on par with the salons back home, and oh my goodness Bella Salon is far better than I could have even dreamed! The staff, the decor, the space itself, it's honestly just a beautiful and amazing salon all around - and the prices are SO good! I did a color/trim, nails, AND a spray tan and I'm seriously never going anywhere else.I was amazed at how kind every single person who works there was - I feel like there is an almost hostile vibe at a lot of salons and was blown away by how happy and NICE the staff is! Sam did my hair and she is KILLER, the color is rich and hasn't washed out at all. Highly recommend the keratin treatment, my hair is highly processed and for the first time in years it's shiny and soft again. Maddie Joe did my nails and that girl has got TALENT! We did a negative space design with a pink iridescent accent and I have been getting a ton of compliments on them, highly recommend her. I never know what to do with my nails and she came up with the concept and was super fast, which I appreciate big time. I also had a spray tan done with Jessica, she was so thorough and made sure to go over some spots multiple times. I've had spray tans where it looked great that day but faded after the first shower, and this tan lasted a good five days before I started to notice any fade. The owner, Sarah, is the CUTEST, such a sweetheart, so it's easy to see why the staff she brings on is so happy. Got a blowout & makeup session on the same day back to back right before my college senior graduation pictures. Had the BEST experience. All my friends have been asking me where I got my hair & makeup for that day... even to this day 5 months later! Makeup was done by Keith - he's AWESOME. I was so worried about the products matching my skin tone & the makeup lasting throughout the session but he did it perfectly & the make up lasted well past the photography shoot! If I remember correctly my hair was done by Lane - she was also amazing! It was my first ever blowout & it couldn't have gone more smoothly! She was so skilled & graceful even with my thick, long hair. Both were very knowledgeable, answered all my questions, were easy to converse with, gave me great recommendations on hair care/skin care. I wanted to go back to get my hair colored by the same stylist too but I haven't gotten a chance to visit Austin after graduation yet - honestly thinking about visiting just to book an appointment  The salon itself is in a great location on West 6th & it's spacious, clean, and modern. And the staff didn't try to sell me any of their product line - simply answered my questions about it & the products actually looked really great I'll have to buy them next time. Overall, excellent customer service. I've been recommending them to all my friends since my appointment there 5 months ago so I thought I'd also just leave a review here. My first visit to Bella salon was over a month ago. I was scheduled with Jason after explaining to the receptionist that I had short hair and wanted an expert cut. Jason, also known as Deville, is a large tattooed body-builder. At first I thought, oh great, this might not be good. He spent over 10 minutes asking me questions about my style, life and haircut desires; after this, I was at ease. His professionalism and expertise were apparent in the consultation and throughout the haircut. I have short hair with many cowlicks, and a bad haircut can be disastrous. If the haircut's not funky enough, I'll look like an old maid. If it's not precise, I'll look like I just visited Supercuts. When Jason was done, I was pleasantly surprised. He's the best Austin hairdresser I have ever used. Previously I got my haircuts with an expert stylist at Jackson Ruiz and Salon Intuitions. I must say that both places have great stylist (I always received a satisfactory haircut), but they lacked in creativity. I've been getting my hair cut at Bella for about a year now and its a great place. Raquel has been cutting and coloring my hair and she is fantastic! She is so sweet and is very good at what she does. Recently she asked if I would like to try the feather extensions, and I said I would try them out. Raquel had a good selection of color and length and she put them in quickly. I really like them and its a fun flair to my normal style. Before discovering the phenomenal hair colorist, Raquel, at Bella, I had been every shade of blonde that exists including platinum, ash, and most recently strawberry blonde/red/pinkish. All of this to try and cover my dishwater (and now graying) natural color. Since moving to Austin from Houston, I've tried several salons and hairstylists and was never pleased with the results - until now. I discovered Bella Salon and most importantly, I found Raquel Hurtado, a true miracle worker. Raquel actually studied my hair and talked with me (and listened) for a long time before she ever started mixing hair color. All I had dared to hope for was color correction from the many mistakes that had been made long before I found Raquel. The bottom line - I left the salon with beautiful, shiny warm blonde hair. Simply fantastic salon -- any way you slice it. Seriously - it is hands down the best salon I have ever been to. I moved to Austin in 2006, leaving my previous salon back in Houston. I have never been one that is eager to try out a new salon... let's face it - the first visit is typically excruciating ... sitting in the chair as some perfect stranger begins snipping away at YOUR HAIR -- something that will remain on your head long after you exit their doors -- whether you like it or not. If you're like me, my first time at a new salon is typically spent engaging in mindless small talk while bracing myself for the tragedy that will likely be my head when it is all over. NOT AT BELLA!! From the moment I spoke with Raquel (the genius of all that is hair)... I knew I was going to walk out of there a happy camper - and that is exactly what happened. As soon as I sat down, Raquel asked me what EXACTLY I would like done -- and she actually LISTENED and knew what I was talking about. I highly, HIGHLY recommend Raquel to anyone who values their appearance at ALL .. ha, but seriously -- she's amazing and I can assure you that you won't be disappointed. As far as price is concerned -- which, unfortunately is an issue for most of us -- Bella is an up-scale salon ... as such, they have up-scale prices. However, I would like to offer some food for thought, if you will... How much would you say you spend elsewhere (at least as far as personal appearance is concerned?) :: clothes - yes, the outfits you only wear ONCE, shoes, accessories, etc. Now think about this logically... your hair is probably one of the ONLY things that is STUCK ON YOUR HEAD. Rain or shine, going out or staying in, studying, going on a date, reading a book, skipping in the park, sleeping... yeah -- you get the idea. Moral of the story -- Bella Salon is phenomenal. Raquel has given me the best advice regarding what to do with my hair. Which by the way, was extremely unruly when I first came to her. I have very thick hair and lots of it. Raquel recommended the Keratin treatment which I decided to try. I can't believe the end result. It was so amazing. .I definitely will do it again. I was in Austin for the weekend and decided to get my hair cut since I procrastinated in my hometown to get one. Someone reccommended I go to Bella. Even though another stylist was reccommended, Michelle was the only one available. While I was waiting, a girl came up to me after overhearing that Michelle would be doing my hair. She showed me her receipt of what she just paid for Michelle to do her hair ($220, tip included). She wasn't complaining about the receipt, she followed up to tell me that Michelle was worth every nickel of it. Being a guy, knowing I wouldn't be spending that much on a haircut, it made me feel good that I was gonna get my money's worth. And I did. I was extremely nervous about finding a new hair stlyist, as I am really picky. But my hair stylist in L.A. recommended Michelle at Bella Salon. Michelle is GREAT! I have long hair and it has been all one length for a very long time. I was interested in getting layers, but still hesitant due to previous bad experiences that scared me away from layers. I was recommended to her through a friend whose hair I love, so I decided to trust her with my long locks. She did such a great job@ I have been to her twice now, and she has helped get my hair back to being healthy and shiny, and the layer cut she gave is perfect for how I want to style my hair. It looks great even if I do nothing to it. She listened to me about how I style my hair and the time I was willing to put in to maintain a style; she gave me a cut that works perfectly for me and my lifestyole. I actually found this salon here on Citysearch and I could't be happier with the find! I have been going to Michelle for about seven months now and she gives the best haircuts and her coloring skills can't be beat! She takes the time to really understand what you want and isn't afraid to offer suggestions on how she thinks you will look your best. And she's always right on! I always leave extremely happy and receive non-stop compliments on my hair color and cut. Coming from Dallas and Seattle, I actually think the prices are pretty affordable for the service you receive. Tiffany Hardwick has been my hairdresser for six years, and I don?t foresee that ever changing. She is one of only two people I have ever allowed to cut/style/color my hair (outside of Mom, of course!). When I go to the salon, I basically ask Tiffany to do whatever she thinks would suit me at the time, from cut to color.
