Rachel's Salon & Day Spa is the best! Shelby Muir is phenomenal. It's been many years since I've been able to just sit down in a salon chair and say "make me beautiful." Shelby knows my personality well enough to find a hairstyle that suits me every time! When I'm ready for a change, I say the word and she comes up with something for me. Relaxing, enjoyable experience. Hair love while overlooking Court Square in Downtown Memphis was so enjoyable. The Aveda product line the salon uses is the plus for me. I love the Aveda line. This salon is phenomenal. Any negative reviews must have occurred before it came under new ownership, because Paige restored my faith in great customer service. While staying in Memphis for a few days I wanted to get a little "poof" to my short hair for a special event Saturday night. When I "googled" salons close to my hotel, Rachel's was at the top of the list. Before leaving home I was able to go on line and make a reservation. When I arrived at Rachel's, everyone was very pleasant, the shop had a comfortable atmosphere. Jackie talked to me about what I was looking for, then started my scalp massage! Wow, how relaxing!! Nobody does it better than Rachel's Salon & Day Spa! Mallory Reynolds is the first consistent hair stylist I've had in my entire life, and she is absolutely fabulous. She goes out of her way to make me feel comfortable - buying me my favorite trashy gossip magazines that I'm only allowed to read during haircuts and airplane rides! - and she talks just the right amount (not too much, just enough!). She is amazing at her job, making my curls stand out and frame my face perfectly! Also, salon owner/operator Paige Garland is the bomb! She makes the salon an incredibly comfortable, dynamic atmosphere and always strives for the best possible experience for each customer. I can't say enough good things about my girls at Rachel's! This salon is absolutely fantastic. In a bit of a crisis, the owner went out of her way to make arrangements to help solve the problem by setting up an appointment that week. I went in, Jacqueline was my hair stylist, and it was possibly one of the most educational and professional experiences I have had. No comparison to other upscale salons in the area. Friendly, knowledgeable, with a genuine willingness to go the extra mile for the customer, this salon restored my faith in customer service. Jacqueline is a joy to be around but also delivers results and is dedicated to continuing her education and growing as a stylist, which I really respect. Yesterday I took three beautiful young ladies who were visiting from out of town to get haircuts. Terri made all of them look fabulous with updated styles. She was soo sweet and patient with them and they left grinning from ear to ear. They could not wait to show of their new styles!! Would not recommend Rachel's Salon & Day Spa for men's haircuts. Honestly, one of the worst haircuts I have received. I do a fairly straight-forward side part hair cut with a fade on the sides. Mallory discovered half way through the haircut that she didn't know how to do a fade and had to ask for some help. Needless to say, it didn't end well. She also forgot to clean up the hairline on the back. I'm disappointed to have gotten such a bad haircut. I would have asked her to fix it but I didn't have confidence that she could do a better job. I am in town visiting and called here last minute to get a blowout and pedicure. I am very thankful that they were able to schedule me on short notice. Just moved to Memphis from San Diego and I received the same level of service that I expected from salons in Cali. I had long hair and wanted strictly a trim for dead ends and to add a few minimal layers, since I wear my hair up at work. Shelby quickly understood what I was looking for and gave me a relaxing, professional shampoo, brisk head massage, hair trim, and dried and styled it. She stayed just the right amount of friendly chatty through the whole process and also let me relax. She was very knowledgeable of the Aveda products used and for sale and recommended a smoothing serum that is a must have in this humidity. I was very pleased with the way my hair looked afterwards and it still looks long, but refreshed, and goes up for work no problemo. UPDATE: After my previous review, I was contacted by management. Being in customer service myself, I appreciate anyone who takes the time out to truly seek out how they can rectify a problem. I imagine my experience here was a rare one, and after I've let my hair grow some I may give Rachel's another shot. Any business caring enough to try to fix a problem is one worth sticking with.
