I treated myself for my birthday to a massage and manicure. The location is very convenient, but parking can be tricky. The building is old and beautiful. The massage was good. The manicure was good, nothing amazing. It was super quiet, like a tomb. If there was music it was so low only a dog could pick up on it. And unfortunately, the front desk at the time (it may have changed since) was very off putting. Cold shoulder for days. I would try them again though, but hopefully the customer service warms up. I went for my first facial today as a birthday gift to myself and it was amazing. I was a little apprehensive since I have never experienced a facial before however Mackenzie (I'm sorry if that's the incorrect spelling) was talented and reassuring. The customer service was friendly and polite. They were true to the website and I received the college student discount. After my facial I felt calm and relaxed. I’m at a loss for word trying to describe my facial and massage. Facials are something that I treat myself to regularly and I think I have found my new home. I want to use flowery language, but I feel that may be going overboard, but my esthetician did an amazing job. Her fingers were in harmony, gentle yet attentive to details. I can feel my face breathing. I loved it. Facials are my THING, but the massage was also very good. I run almost every day, so I booked a deep tissue and it did not disappoint. She really got in there on the legs and back, especially the IT band, my feet and my lower back, which were aching. You don't know how much you need a great massage until you have one. I purchased a Symphony 5 gift certificate online for my mother for Mother's Day, and she loved, loved, loved it. She's been back twice since then. A bit curious, I booked a massage and facial for myself and they were the best spa treatments that I've ever had. The spa is gorgeous, located in a beautiful Victorian with classy antique furniture, art and decor. The massage and facial rooms are spacious, beautifully decorated and very relaxing. Father's day is right around the corner and my mother has already suggested a gift certificate for my dad. I've been to other places in providence for massage, but they don't quite have that spa touch and ambiance. It also helped that my services were amazing. My husband and I had a wonderful couples massage here for our anniversary. The service was the best part. Unfortunately the building is pretty run down, the waiting area seems thrown together and messy, and the bathroom was out of both toilet paper and paper towels. Butter Day Salon was fabulous. When you walk in it's like you are home. Very relaxing and comfortable. I was greeted by a happy, assertive, receptionist with a mimosa for me and my daughter before we went into our service. The staff is friendly and the receptionist was accommodating in fitting me in with my busy schedule. The room where I had my facial was calming which I found difficult to leave. Anna was amazing. By far the best spa I've encountered. I've had several massages and facials elsewhere and my experience here has been wonderful. The staff are extremely friendly and truly care about the needs of their clients. It's nice getting a massage from professionals who can help you better previous injuries. I feel amazing. I needed a massage so bad and tried a different place on the east side and it did not do the trick. A co-worker recommended Butter and I so glad I went. They have me as a customer for life. My therapist applied just the right amount of pressure, it wasn't too much nor too little. She found every stubborn knot that had been bothering me and even found some that I didn't know I had. It felt like a huge burden had been lifted off me. Plus the spa is gorgeous. My wife and I LOVE Butter. This is our 3rd year celebrating our anniversary there and each year it has gotten better and better. We make the pilgrimage each year from New York to Rhode Island all because of Butter. First, the massages and facials are second to none. Alicia and Rebecca have given us the best massages that we have ever had anywhere. Secondly, the staff is hospitable and very helpful. They go the extra mile. We love their recommendations for restaurants, hotels, things to see and places to go. Lastly, the spa is beautiful. We love the charm of New England architecture and Butter is an amazing Victorian property full of stately antiques that perfectly embody that era. 1. I purchased my gift certificate in hopes that I could give my girlfriend a nice relaxing day at the spa. 2. I called numerous times over a two day period to make an appointment with not a single answer. 3. I left a message... with no response. 4. I emailed to make an appointment and was told that my girlfriend could come in on Saturday around 10 am. 5. Saturday comes. I'm excited for her. She's excited. We both needed this. Instead, I get a call (while at work) from her sa...ying that, in fact, no appointment was made at no fault of our own. She is sent home. 6. I call Butter Day immediately. No manager. Not a single person in charge to resolve the issue. 7. I asked for a refund that day, and the days to follow - through phone and email. 8. Not a single returned call. Not a single "manager." Nothing. 9. When I finally got my refund... it was credited to my Paypal account, which I did not use to pay for the certificate. And all of this "communication" was done sparingly through email. I would give this spa no star, if I could. This place is beyond disorganized and the customer service - if you're able to get a hold of them - is some of the worst I have ever encountered. I would not recommend this spa to anyone. My partner initially bought a package for me online. We then called for several days just to make an appointment but no one ever answered. We decided to e-mail and communicated with two people who scheduled an appointment. A few days later, I arrive...d on the correct date, at the correct time of my appointment, and they stated that no one had actually made the appointment and that I would have to reschedule. I had already rearranged my very busy schedule and knew this would not be possible so we asked for a refund but did not receive one for over a week. I first discovered Butter Day Spa 3 years ago when my boyfriend surprised me with a gift certificate. I got an hour long massage, which I remember being very relaxing and professional. Fast forward to this morning when I woke up with the worst left shoulder blade pain, which made it difficult for me to even turn my neck or move the rest of my upper body. I remembered that I still had money on my gift certificate and immediately called Butter to see if they could squeeze me into their schedule, which thankfully they did. I had a 30 minute massage with Rebecca focused on my upper body. She did a fantastic job of focusing on the very specific location of pain. She also made sure to check in about the room temperature, amount of pressure, and even the aromatherapy (not included in my reservation, by the way). Afterwards, she gave me tips to speed up my recovery, including suggested stretches to target my rhomboids. I really appreciated that they were able to fit me in on such short notice and that Rebecca really listened to me in terms of where I needed the most work. Found this Gem on the afternoon of my not so great birthday.Though spas normally require an appointment the receptionist managed to get one of the therapists to squeeze me in, in hopes to uplift me on my special day. That alone made me love them. The receptionist was so lovely from the moment I walked in til the moment I walked out. The waiting area had refreshments and nice couches to wait on.  Everyone spoke in a calm relaxed voice which I felt catered to the whole spa environment.My therapist greeted me only moments after sitting down. I received the Reiki Spa Chi massage and boy was it just absolutely amazing.from what I gathered from my therapist The massage targets pressure points and knots within your back and shoulder that are harvesting negative energy which allows stress to accumulate and not let positive energy flow throughout your body. This was perfect whereas up until my massage I felt the that the universe was working against me and everything negative was falling onto my lap. Sure enough this massage put me at ease and I genuinely felt relaxed and happy afterwards.I recommend this place to everyone. So, the only redeeming quality here is the treatments. My facial and body scrub were great.But the rest was so disappointing. I wanted to plan a birthday party with my friends.  I had to make several phone calls just to make sure that they had my reservation, and was getting a different story each time I called: I could reserve the whole place, I couldn't reserve the whole place, they had my reservation, they didn't have it... They said they couldn't call me b/c they didn't have my number? what?  Then, they took a deposit by credit card, then said they didn't have a record of it and took it again.  I ended up having to send them a copy of my email receipt to prove that I already paid it - they returned the second charge, but never apologized.  Personally, I thought the deposit should have been waived given  how much trouble it was just to reserve it.  But whatever, small details.Next, we all arrive. I thought, since we were reserving the whole place for 3 hours, we would be hanging out, and they would call people as they come for their treatments. But no, apparently, each girl had a set appointment time, which they did not tell me. So, when my guests arrived a little late, the manager Nicole told my guests quite haughtily that "I was under the impression that the party started at 11," and that Sasha (me) "Didn't communicate well."  Btw, I wasn't in the room at the time.  So,  blame the customer to her guests? very nice. Do it while I'm not there? Even nicer.  Do it when I had to make FOUR phone calls to communicate with them? really really nice.Next, it was a birthday party, so it was supposed to come with a champagne toast and cake.   We brought our own champagne, so they never even bothered to get theirs out.  And I think we left a full bottle behind, too, that we never got back.  We were getting a lunch, which was served plunked down with no silverware in the reception area.  And after our treatments, we sat and sat and drank our coffee, and I was just waiting to see if they'd remember the cake.  I didn't even want it, I was so annoyed by that time, but I was so curious if they'd remember about it.  You guessed it: no, they never brought it.Finally, by the end of the so called party, a lot of the guests had to leave, and there were 4 of us left, sitting there chatting.  I wasn't keeping track of who left and who stayed, so after we sat there for about 45 min with our coffees (and no cake), we decided to leave and go somewhere else to talk.  10 min later, one of my guests calls me: "You guys left me?"  We left, and a member of my party was still getting a treatment.  That means, we decided to go, got up, said we were leaving, took about 10 min to settle out the bills and tips and stuff, and the receptionist never thought to tell us, oh hey, one of your guests is still inside.  Seriously? Awkward.In the end, I gotta say, it was so bad that it was comical.  It's a party that will be remembered but for all the wrong reasons.  The estheticians, who are quite good, are doing themselves a disservice working here. This is my second visit, the first time was okay but my friend want to try this place for her birthday. also, we all decided that we all need a spa day get a way.  It was a busy day since it was on Saturday but it doesn't mean that the receptionist should be rude and unprofessional to us. we were greet and was told to wait, and after that we were waiting for a long time, no one bother to come and ask us for a drink. Finally, the manager rudely told us that one of the receptionist over booked the appointments. Not even a "sorry" she act like it's our fault. They has to do our facial back to back, this is so mess up!!!! When it was my turn, i was escort to a double room, the esthetician ( i wish i remember her name) asked me to change. The bathrobe that they gave me was old and falling apart at the edge. I went to lay on the bed, there were so many hair on the sheet and smell like someone sweat. it's feel like this sheet has never been wash. The girl who did my facial told me that I do not need an extraction which clearly I need one around my nose and that is why i booked my appointment for facial. The hot towel that she used on my face were way too hot, i was screaming unexpectly. There were people talking in the hallway, I couldn't feel relaxing. We also had a manicure and pedicure after our facial. The girl who did my manicure was nice and friendly but she did a terrible job. They didn't has a hand sink in the nail room, so the nail tech told me to walk to the restroom to was my hand after the scrub. During my manicure, she nipped my finger a few time bleeding. I choose to do shellac on my hand, she painted the color all over my cuticle. I told her that i don't like it because it's going to chip off very easily, she rudely told me that she has no time to fix it because her next appointment is waiting in the lobby. My friend and I were looking at each other and feeling so disappointed. We did not just came here to spent a few hundred dollar for a dirty spa service, terrible job and rude staff. My friend and I occasionally get together for a spa day every month. It's a nice get away since we both love a crazy life! We always like to try new places and as we did our research Butter Day Spa appeared. We had never had a bad experience until our day at Butter Day Spa. It started with a disappointment in the level of cleanliness. We were first greeted by the receptionist at the front desk. She asked us if we wanted a beverage which I thought was extremely nice until she handed us a dirty glass. After we were escorted to our room where I was getting a massage and my friend was getting a facial. We were told to undress and get under the sheets. We proceeded to do so until I lifted the sheet and saw a bug crawl out from the sheets. UNREAL. Not to mention the layer of dirt crusted into the facial machines.  Which also looked broken as the steamer was leaning on the wall for support seeing as one wheel was missing. Overall I can defiantly say we won't be returning any time soon. Cleanliness should be top priority in this business. Had one of the most relaxing massages I had in a while. The masseuse (Becky) did such a great job. She asked me what I needed worked on and any part she should avoid. She worked out every kink and knot I had. Then she explained simple stretches I could do to avoid these knots in the future. The only thing that bothered me was how the house staff forget my Champagne for the room. I asked when booking the appointment and again when we arrived. Went with 2 other girls last year. We set a time got there early waited.....and waited.... And waited we were told the bachelorette party was still hanging around so we couldn't get our massages yet. Finally I got irritated because we had other events planned to watch the Veteran's Day ceremony at the water fire... They instead gave us a coupon to come back ( we live in MA and never go down there.. One girl went back with her husband. Said it wasn't worth the trip down there... again by any means) and they gave us a neck massage and put a quick polish on... Mine chipped that night. They did pay for us to get a cab to the water fire but it was too late( way too late) and we missed the whole ceremony. We just felt very disrespected.
