Ken and Company Aveda Salon was 1 awesome salon they offered me coffee or water in the beginning to give me hospitality lol. No salon really does that and I got a brand new blonde streak in my hair. I was here for the first time and it was amazing! I was welcomed walking in and offered a drink. Staff is super nice and educate you well on the products. Let me start off by saying I never even got a chance to go here. I originally had a 10am appt for hair and make up for my daughter's wedding and I'm coming in from NYC. The time of the wedding was pushed back so after calling for 3 days in a row to be accompanied by changing my time, they wouldn't. If I kept my 10am appt I'd have to sit and wait around until 4pm just for pictures. Went this past Monday with a friend. We were new to the place and were impressed with their prices but even better for first time comers there's a $10 coupon, made our decision for us! My friend and I booked the same person back to back. My friend went first. J-Lynn was very nice and listened to what we wanted. Towards the end of my friend's cut another lady (i didn't get her name) prepared me by washing my hair. The head massages they do there before the cut is a great little detail to the experience. They were very gentle and attentive. The small talk was great as well, very friendly! J-Lynn showed us a great way to blow dry our hair while curling it. I was the maid of honor in my sister's wedding and we went to Ken and Company the day of the wedding to get our hair done. I showed the hair stylist a picture of what I wanted and the end result was very far off. After I had him fix it, I still was not happy but because we were on a tight schedule on her wedding day, I had to leave. I called to speak with Ken, the owner after I left and told him I had been a customer for several years and that I was very unhappy with my hair (he never even saw what my hair looked like). I kindly asked if he could give me some sort of credit toward a haircut because I had just paid $71 for something I had to re-do. His response was "I am absolutely appalled you would ask, have a good day" and hung up on me. He didn't even give me so much as an apology. I used to love this salon, but they have gone down hill. Their customer service is terrible- I waited 45 minutes past my appointment time and ended up cancelling my appointment. After the 45 minute wait, they didn't offer so much as a discount on my haircut. Also another time I was there the owner was patronizing his employees. Not a good environment! Read Less

I love Ken and Company! I've known about them for years (I used to live in the area), but my first cut with them was in February of 2014. My hair was down to my butt, and I was ready to donate it! Despite that, I was so nervous, as I hadn't had short hair in forever, and I was nervous that I would hate the outcome. Their booking process is easy. You can either call or do it online (which is the easiest option for me). You'll make an account and your past appointments will be there, all of the stylist's available times will be there, etc.. When I first came in, I booked my appointment with Amanda, who charges the usual $50 per cut. I told her my reason for coming, how much I wanted to donate (ended up being 16 inches), and what I wanted the style to look like. I was going for a short bob (around my jawline when curled). She did an amazing job! She stood with what I asked for and didn't "make it her own" as some stylists do. I haven't cut my hair that short since then, but that's because I've come to appreciate my long bob a lot more! Ever since then, I don't cut my hair anywhere else!I've been sticking to Amanda as my stylist, but there was one time where I was in desperate need of a cut and I took an appointment with Jenny. She too was great!What I love about this salon is that the service is great from start to finish. As soon as you walk in through the door, you're greeted. The ladies at the desk know me by name. While you wait to start your wash, they'll bring you a drink (water, tea, coffee, wine). They'll also hang up your jacket, if you want. The salon itself is nicely laid out and never gets overly crowded. You can opt for the head massage at the chair or during your wash. It's so calming, and I suggest doing it on a dry scalp. The smell is soothing and it's definitely a nice added touch. The ladies who have washed my hair have all been friendly and attentive. They start conversations, comment on how thick my hair is, and really thoroughly wash through any gunk. After that, you're taken to a styling chair and greeted by your stylist. It's all magic from there! One suggestion, speak up for yourself! If you're not satisfied, let them know! Let them know what you want from the beginning. Don't expect the outcome to look exactly like the photo but try and be descriptive as possible. One thing I really dislike is how much product they put on my hair after it. I hate putting stuff other than shampoo and conditioner in my hair, so after the first two cuts, I asked them not to add anything! They really insist, but I ask them not to. The products themselves are great, but I have to wash my hair the next morning because the products make it so greasy. Parking is easy to find. There's street parking and a lot. The bathrooms are always clean! The salon is always organized and the people (both customers and staff) are friendly. Read Less

I came here to get my hair done for my wedding and 7 months later, I'm still disappointed when looking at my wedding photos because of how my hair turned out. I went in with several pictures of the style that I wanted. It was simple enough, just some basic pin curls and then pinned up/back. Actually, the style was so simple that I almost just did it myself. But, being that it was my wedding day, I thought I would let someone else do it for me. When I showed the girl the pictures, her exact words were "Ok, what I'm going to do is.." She then proceeded to tell me something that didn't sound exactly like what I wanted, but I thought, in the end, I would still have the hairstyle I wanted. Nope, not even close. It was NOTHING like what I asked for. Instead of loose, soft pin curls, she did extremely tight, small curls, pinned in one large clump at the back of my head. I kept mentioning my pictures I brought and she kept disregarding them. At a point, she said "Oh but I'm making it look like you have a lot of long hair in an up-do!" (I didn't want long hair in an up-do. I was perfectly happy with my medium length hair) I should have spoke up even more, but I didn't because I was afraid of sounding like some sort of bridezilla, and now, looking back, I realize that that wasn't the case...she really did that awful of a job, and I wish I would've fought back, but by the time I realized how awful it was, it was too late. I was on the verge of tears the entire time she did my hair, rendering all of those photos of me getting ready useless. There's also a lot of otherwise beautiful wedding photos that I can't/don't use because of how terrible it was. I see that the salon, overall, has great reviews, any maybe they do a great job of cuts/color/etc. But I would advise any bride looking to have their hair done to look elsewhere. Worst experience I have had at a hair salon in my life! The hairstylist completely ruined my hair and kept trying to convince me it looks ok. I left in tears and am walking around in a hat until I can go to another salon to fix the mess Ken and Co have made. All they care about is the cash in their pockets and not the satisfaction of customers. They should be ashamed to be called Aveda. Save yourself the time, stress and money and go somewhere else! She did a wonderful up do using some photos I brought it, and that says a lot since I have a frightening amount of hair. I don't always get my haircut...But when I do, it's with Hideko at Ken and Company!The salon is gorgeous!  Always super clean with an attentive and friendly staff that grabs you a drink as soon as you walk in.  My favorite Aveda beverage?  Their classic mint tea!  YUM!Your haircut always starts off with a little consultation, then a relaxing head/shoulder massage before you get beautified.  How cool is that?! Having recently moved back to the area after 10 years, I was incredibly thankful that Ken & Company is still going strong!  I had a straightening treatment done today, and not only did it turn out beautifully, but my stylist, Corrin, took the time to understand exactly what I wanted, answered all of my questions, and I trusted her completely.  I now have a fabulous new cut, and the treatment came out even better than I had hoped for!  Everyone there is super friendly, professional, and knows exactly what they're doing.  Ken was even there and stopped to say hi to me.  Salons like this are few and far between - I'm so lucky that this is close to me!  It really is a no-brainer, I'll definitely be coming to Ken & Co. for a long long time. I gave this Salon 2 tries, while it is very clean, the staff is friendly, I feel the cuts I received were sub par to say the least. The first time I went the girl who cut my hair was very nice, but did not really do what I asked and did not cut enough off. The second time I went, the girl was also very nice, but did not do what I asked and cut off Too much. Not to mention there was nothing very special about the cuts. This latest cut is kind of awful actually. My ends are not very even and it just does not sit well on my shoulders at all. I am hoping it grows out quickly! I am very disappointed. Both Cuts were very "boring" and I do not feel they were worth what I Paid. $50 the first time and $40 the second. I feel I have gotten better cuts at less expensive salons. As I said, the place is clean, staff is friendly, but I do not think the stylists are very good, from my 2 experiences. Read Less
