So incredibly disappointed with this place. There is nothing more that I hate than to give a business a bad review over something that could be fixed or even at least given attention to the issue. I understand that not everyone that leaves is 100% happy and has a 5 star review to give. I got my hair cut and colored (painted not foils) on Friday afternoon. This was my first time going to Alexanders for my hair. I’ve been there before for spa packages and I was happy. I’ve been getting my hair colored for 12 years as a blonde, I’m a brunette. I understand the process and up keep as a blonde. Yes, Im not as bright during the winter because I chose not to be but again, I understand things like this happen. I left really upset. I spent a lot of money, I’m not even going to go there, not to mention over three hours at the salon. I went in to brighten up my hair for the summer and that’s not at all what I left with. I have pictures of before and after, it’s the same color. I’m not saying who I went to because I think she’s very talented. But when I asked what it would look like and we both looked at a picture and agreed, that is not what it came out as. Whether it was an a mistake on communication, the color process, or anything else, that’s understandable. It can be fixed. But to not even get a call back from this place? Are you kidding me . I called three times since then to speak to a manager and have not received one call. I called Saturday morning , late Monday morning and then again on Monday night. Again, I am beyond disappointed and still incredibly dissatisfied with the color of my hair. Not to mention I have my best friends wedding in three weeks and I have to make another appointment, obviously somewhere else and spend another few hundred dollars to get what I really wanted. The management must be awful because they can't seem to hold on to their seniored staff. Had an appointment with my stylist who I've been seeing for years, I even followed them there, and Alexander's had no intention of even telling me they were no longer there until I showed up for my appointment. Completely unprofessional would not recommend this establishment to anyone. No way to do business anytime someone builds up awesome repertoire with their stylist next thing you know their stylist is gone. This has happened multiple times one time okay, but when it's over and over again there's obviously something wrong with the location. I also don't feel that the management or owner cares about the building, they have cabinets falling off their hinges which doesn't give you a good feeling when you're sitting down as to even the quality of products that they're using. This is the place to go for any salon needs, be they a simple cut or nail service, or a full spa-day. I see Sonja and Buddy for my hair, and would recommend either highly. It's a relaxing and posh environment without being overpriced. The entire downstairs lobby is also a great shop full of skin and hair-care needs of every variety, including homeopathic! Kelly did my teeth whitening and I am very happy with the results. My wife attends botox parties offered at Kelly's spa and she is always pleased with the cosmetic results. Kelly offers free consults to any one who requests them concerning any of the procedures she provides. These consults are very reassuring to would be clients. I highly recommend Kelly to others. Absolutely love this place and will be back! My husband surprised me with a spa day for Valentine’s Day. It was absolutely amazing. I’m 7 months pregnant and was treated like royalty. I have to take a minute and give a shout out to Tiffany. I have followed her the past 5 years and have never been so happy with my hair. She has always taken her time with me, to explain exactly what I will need to do to get to the desired color I want. She has taken me from dark brown to vivid reds, buttery blonde and never compromised my hair! I would give zero stars if it were possible. A stylist butchered my hair and I was told there was no one that could fix it for me until days later. It was so terrible I could not wait those days so I had to go somewhere else. My long hair, past my shoulders, is now up around my ears. My daughter and myself got a mani pedi and we were more than pleased with our services. The ladies were so helpful picking out colors, offering refreshments and just making the whole atmosphere amazing. Our nails came out great and Victoria is amazing at nail art. I was happy to be able to get a 30 minute express pedi. ($30.00). They fit me in quickly and I had help from a lovely young lady to pick out polish. During my actual pedi the young woman who did the service seemed like she did a great job. I sat for more than 30 minutes to wait for the pedi to dry like I always do and then went on my way. Honestly, I hate leaving this review because I have loved this salon while living in Scranton and constantly have recommended it above others. But after my experience today, and the way I was treated, I will never be back. Ambiance is great and services are fine. But terrible customer service from front desk staff, employees and managers. Booked a 1.5 hour massage on 7/29. One hour into the massage someone knocked on the door to say the fire alarm was going off and the building had to be evacuated. No time to change I had to stand on the corner of Lackawanna and Washington avenue in a robe until the fire trucks arrived, they determined there was no issue and we could return to the building. After that the therapist continued the massage until the end time of 1:30. I didn't take notice of the time but I estimate I lost at least 20 minutes. The massage therapist apologized several times. For all of this I was given a $15 discount on a $115 treatment. I thought this was completely inadequate given the circumstances. I won't be returning. Read Less

This review is long overdue. I was visiting some college friends in Scranton when I decided to get my hair cut on a whim. I called the night before and easily got an appointment with Teresa the next morning. I was very nervous about getting my hair cut because I was looking to cut off about five inches in order to achieve the popular "lob" haircut. I have a round face, and I was worried about cutting my hair so short. Teresa immediately put me at ease. She gave me a thorough consultation, and I let her know how nervous I was. She asked me many questions about my hair, the color, and how I usually style my hair. She explained each step as she went and continuously checked in with me to make sure I was comfortable. I left Alexander's with an excellent haircut. If I lived closer, this would be my go-to salon and Teresa would be my go-to stylist. I highly recommend her! Read Less

The hair stylists (I see Teresa) are the best in the area, the spa services are super luxurious and thorough, and the products they sell are fantastic. I came in as a first time hair customer for a first time perm. The entire experience went above and beyond my expectations. My stylist was extremely attentive and polite and made me feel comfortable and at ease throughout the four hour experience. Her passion for her craft was obvious and was exemplified by all of her little gestures of concern and snippets of hair care advice which truly were beneficial in nature. The perm itself came out very nice and she spent a wonderful chunk of time with me to ensure that I was satisfied and that my hair achieved the intended effect. (It did! I love it.) I found the price fair particularly when one considers the amount of time that was spent with me and that I was offered refreshments as I relaxed in the ambient environment. I will be returning to Alexander's for all of my future hair care needs, both big and small. I also hope to revisit their nail salon as I had favorable experiences in the past. Read Less

Had a mani/pedi on Saturday for a wedding. It's Monday morning and my nails are all chipped/peeling. Every time I have a manicure at Alexander's it lasts only 2-3 days. I went in for a consultation after a very bad experience at nOW Hair Salon. Rose was very quick with me, barely waiting for sentences to leave my mouth. I asked several questions, her responses were negative, and quickly asked what kind of product do I put in my hair or "we can put a product in your hair".Each time she mentioned putting a 'product' on it she never explained what this 'product' would do. She was only interested in selling me 'a product'.I don't care for the factory atmosphere on the second floor either.I was not comfortable with her lack of concern or willingness to explore and explain some ideas on what to do with the mess I was left with.Clearly not for me, and if this is the best of Scranton............ My daughter and I stopped in Saturday before Mother's Day to check for a walk in appointments but wound up booking services for Monday when none were available. We had flights out on Monday so I was a bit leery of timing but the woman at the desk said they always strived to be on time so we thought we were good. I booked a Neuromuscular Massage which their brochure states works by using static pressure on specific myofascial points to relieve pain from the body.  The name itself implied knowledge of trigger points and how to find and release them. And it was recommended when I told the woman at the desk what I was looking for. The spa itself is quiet and nicely appointed but the lockers, dressing areas and lounge are very small. Two parties of five were taken back at the same time and it was very tight. I was called 15 minutes late so a little stressed but we were still on target. When I told my masseuse I had booked this specific massage to help with neck /shoulder tension from an old injury, she informed me the way she does it would be a combination of Swedish, deep tissue and neuromuscular ... Really ? She proceeded to provide what I'd characterize as an light Swedish massage with lots of feathery fingers and patting over the sheets. She asked only once -early on - if the pressure was ok and I was honest and asked for firmer massage but there was no change and she never asked again. There were a few times when she seemed to stumble on a few trigger points so I thought ... Finally. But then she'd back away from them quickly and continued with the light fluff massage. In all honesty I'm not sure if she didn't know how to do the appropriate massage or just didn't care.  Back in the locker the code to my locker wouldn't work (daughters bday I always use so it was easy to remember) which put me even further behind before the woman on the phone up front could assistAt the desk to pay for services, I confirmed the type of massage I had booked. When I told them there was no trigger point work or even medium pressure massage she quickly shared that I should have booked a deep tissue massage ?!?  Interesting since this one was recommended by their front desk 2 days earlier Since I was running very  late at this point, I didn't argue. Get the charge receipt ... and there's no tip line. They say only cash?  We were in the spa booking the services... I took my friend here for her bachelorette party and wedding hair. The salon def has style by the looks of it. The staff is just very inexperienced. I can't even say it's a small town thing because I've been to many small towns. Had my hair down all over the United States and if you invest in your staffs education on hair and cosmetology then it shows. We asked for braids and got something that I could have done while driving down the Casey going 80. (Which you shouldn't do). It was very expensive for what we got, I'm used to expensive I live in NYC. I'd give it five stars for ambiance ...friendliness and it's posh interior. But...for the job done?  Way too expensive....and I walked out feeling very mediocre. I know I'm not the easiest to please so keep that in mind. But I don't have a lot of money, so when I do splurge I have pretty high expectations.   I consider hair and make up people to be artists and I usually ask their opinion when getting a style done.  I went in there bored with my color and cut.  I have shorter curly hair that is easily straightened...I walked out with slightly boyish cut and a dark color. Now...don't get me wrong I like the color.  Don't care for the cut...but neither is bold nor exciting.  The color I could've achieved at home and not spent 100.00.    The cut is weird.  I was told my hair is at an awkward stage. So whatever.  I can deal with that...but I repeatedly asked for the persons opinion and all the feedback I got was that my hair was at an awkward stage.   And the only color advice was the difference between demi and permanent.   I am pretty unhappy. To the point where I was visibly upset...but smiled anyway because what can you do. $100.  Wasted.   Find a smaller boutique where they take their time and aren't rushing to fit you in between other clients. What an amazing place! I came in today with a broken foot and the worst case of cast foot ever. There were no outward complaints for having to work on such a terrible foot situation, which was awesome. I was apologizing up and down, though. Unfortunately, I didn't get the name of the girl who worked on my feet, but she did a stellar job. I got the deluxe pedicure and she spent over an hour and was so gentle. They offer you a drink (coffee, tea, water, wine) and are so sweet and kind. Plus, today they were performing complimentary massages, and it was lovely! If I had more money I would tip so much (and I'm going to plan on getting the same girl next time so I can tip her more then!) I highly recommend Alexander's! Read Less

Alexander's has been my salon and spa choice for decades. I now live out of state, but book an appointment every time I'm am in visiting family. I will never have services done at Alexander's again. Today, I had a colour treatment done with balayage highlighting techniques. The stylist gave me virtually no consultation (first time I've had this stylist). She only colour treated the lower portion of my hair. It was obvious I had roots coming in, and have graying hair. She never touched it, and never asked about it. I asked and she said it wasn't included. So a full price colour treatment only includes half the hair? I had to ask her to colour my hair near the roots. I was then billed for multiple full colour service treatments. The manager tried to tell me a complete lie about the technique to justify the charges as a so called a-la-cart. For reference, balayage and ombré are not the same thing, nor is either colouring style typically achieved using a single colour for the process. This is the same type of colour treatment I've have gotten for years, and have booked the same treatment at salons all over the country, never had this happen.  Further more, I have worked for one of the biggest most respected cosmetology companies in the nation. Please, don't assume your client doesn't know better. If I pay over two hundred dollars for my hair then I better have hair that justifies for that. Luckily, the manager did finally take one of the charges off, but only after argument. If you pay for the best, you should get the best, but that's not the deal here.I was not in for a root touch up. I was there to get a Full colour service using balayage highlighting. I was charged for a separate root touch up because the stylist only did half of my colour service. You miss understand that the question is not what bayalage is, it is a matter of only receiving a half service and then charged for additional services to fix the error of the stylist. Read Less

Alexander's, thank you so much for being in Scranton. I am a new Scranton transplant from New York and I have officially found my salon. The place is absolutely stunning and huge! I walked in and was confused about whether or not I was still in Scranton (for the record, this quirky little place is growing on me and I am happy to be here!) Pan waxed my brows and lip and gave me a pedicure. She did a fabulous job on the waxing; I am a devoted European Wax Center customer so I have been slightly terrified of not having one here. Not anymore! After the waxing, we did my jasmine-something-pedicure...not before offering me coffee and wine. Um, hi yes please...again am I back home? Anyways, the pedicure was wonderful.I cannot wait to make my next appointment. Even the girls at the front desk were wonderful. Loved Alexander's! Came to Scranton for a wedding, found them online and booked my hair and make-up, and wow was I pleased I did!Amanda did both my hair and make up, she was awesome. She asked a bunch of questions and managed to make sense of my ridiculous answers and made my hair fabulous! I showed her a picture of my dress and that woman knew what to do! She also did an extremely complimentary job on my make up - Amanda! I salute you! I completely trusted her from the get go, she was easy going but focused and super nice to chat with! Also, as she was doing my make-up she was told her car was getting towed and she barely broke a sweat - this girl kept it together and figured it out without dropping an eyelash - what a trooper, I'm sure other people here are good but my god that Amanda is GREAT.The place is also very clean and everyone was very warm and friendly. When I was living near Scranton many years ago I would go to Alexander's all the time.  So I decided to take my friend there for one of Alexander's spa pedicures. That turned out to be a bad decision.  The two women doing the pedicures talked to each other nearly the entire time. When my pedicurist would talk, she would stop working on my feet, finish her thought, then go back to what she was doing.  I wanted a really relaxing soothing time for my friend and I. It was anything but that. When it was time to check out I told the supervisor at the front desk my displeasure. She gave me two $5 vouchers for "my troubles".  I thought that was disrespectful as well.  Truthfully the pedicure was only worth $5!!!I will never go back again. Super happy about my visit. I was extremely impressed with the atmosphere, service and prices.I initially wanted to remove my acrylics and do a mani, pedi. However, Yvonne took the time to speak with me about my likes and dislikes regarding the acrylics and made suggestions which I would not have considered. I hate acrylics due to the thickness, however my natural nails, though long are thin and brittle. So we drilled the acrylics down to an acceptable thickness and filled with gel. The gel filled the new growth seamlessly, allows me to keep my length and is thinner than the acrylic. Total $40The pedi was done by Donna and was phenomenal. Donna spent a lot of time finding the perfect shade for me and was extremely helpful. I had the spa pedi. $55This is my new spot. Massage scheduled for my husband for Saturday. Read Less

Held a party there. What was promised was not delivered. Reception staff was extremely rude. My party waited in the reception area, rather than being ""pampered"" in their special affair lounge. This Day Spa has an absolute gorgeous decor however, the decor does NOT speak for the receptionists that works at Alexander's. I have had several bad experiences with the MANAGER and some of the front desk employees'....they have been rude and obnoxious to me on several different occasions. Being rude while trying to schedule an appointment just doesn't settle well with me especially when I am the one who is paying the company for their ""beauty and wellness"". Alexander's is unlike any other Spa I have visited in this area. Immediately after walking in, I was taken back by how beautiful it is. They have a variety of spa services to choose from. I enjoyed The Ultimate Day at the Spa package...it was a taste of everything they have to offer and worth every cent. They even feed your meter for you if you are parked on the street!
