I wouldn't recommend getting a Deva cut here for ladies with curly hair. They charged $65 dollars and the haircut was one of the worst I've ever gotten, not to mention it took 2 hours for just a haircut. The hairdresser put layers on the left side and no layers on the right so I had to go back. Also, she left the left side longer than the right side so now my hair is noticeably lopsided- like an inch longer on the left than the right. I just had to order hair shears so I can cut my hair to make it the same length because I don't want to go back a second time. Really disappointing. Read Less

I’m a fairly new client and have had Angela for a pedicure and she did a great job! I’ve also seen Rachael now for the 3rd time (two cuts and my first highlight) and I’ve been very pleased! I love my highlights! I am very picky when it comes to coloring my hair and find myself bouncing salon to salon because someone always makes a mistake and I never go back. Dawn was amazing! First she cut my 5 year old daughter's hair as short as she wanted (other places never listen to her and have not cut it as short) but didn't hack her bangs! I saw Angela for a massage and it was excellent. Really really great massage. The room is more reiki-ish than luxurious and spa-like. The price was worth it 10x over. The only issue was that being a Saturday morning the hair salon above was super busy and therefore LOUD (not exactly ideal for relaxing). But I give Angela a 10/10!! I had the pleasure of visiting this salon this past Saturday. I was attending a wedding later in the evening and asked for an updo. Jen styled my hair and it was totally amazing! She was so personable and really listened to what I wanted. To be honest, I am 61 years old with poor hair. You would never have known that after she did her magic! My looked spectacular! Jen is a magician! Two regrets: I live 3 hours away (found this salon because of the high reviews), and secondly, I had to take my updo down! If only I lived closer. Had an amazing cut by Dawn today! I've heard of the DevaCurl system before, but haven't tried it on my curly hair. Dawn did a Deva Cut and introduced me to the products and how to use them and my hair has never looked better! I appreciated the attention she took on my cut and was so impressed in the quality of the salon. I felt so relaxed and pampered, and they are so open to having customers call with styling questions or if have them come back in if something isn't right with the cut. I had one of the best haircuts, and hands down, the worst haircut I've ever had here...I'm not super-demanding, and provide pretty clear expectations, pictures, etc.  Like some other commenters mentioned, the second time I went, it was incredibly busy, and I can't help but wonder if the stylist was more concerned with conversing and all the goings-on instead of paying attention to the cut.  The back was uneven, and it was just a mess.  The worst cut was also before an important event, so it kinda made the situation even worse.  People actually made comments.  I gave them another shot, but wasn't very impressed, so I'm moving on.  I think they knew I was unhappy and unlikely to return, so they weren't very accommodating or willing to make sure I left happy. Lovely hairdresser who really listened to me and followed through with the final result. This place was pricier than I'm used to -- with like $50 coupon off, a cut, color, conditioner, blowout came to $122. Still, it is a very nice place, with a wonderful staff (visit Megan!) who accommodated all my crazy hair care wishes, and she really did a fantastic job with each step of the process. If between a hundred and two hundred sounds right for your budget, I highly recommend coming here. You'll definitely get your money's worth. Side note: get the conditioning treatment. Salon Nochea is an oasis in a world of craziness.  Owner JoAnn Gemi employs some of the best people I've ever had the pleasure to meet. It is very conveniently located on Horsham Road and is immaculate.  I've been a client for 24 years and love the Salon Nochea-ettes!!!  There are several different features about this salon: you're almost never kept waiting and they have a little "jewelry and accessory" case in the lobby of which I am a regular customer, they only use the BEST products and they have incredible parking ... one of the problems with going to a salon in nearby Ambler.  Three Salon Nochea employees are worth noting:Loretta - She is my everything nail/wax lady.  And when you go to see Loretta, it is like nails and a show.  Not since Gracie Allen and Lucille Ball have I ever known anyone funnier than Loretta.  On top of that, she does the most beautiful nails on the planet.  She is amazing!!!  And her pedicures are to die for!!!  Best pedicures ever!!!As far as waxing, she's been doing my facial waxing for years.  But for only the past few years have I been getting bikini waxes.  I felt weird about the whole thing.  And then I decided to try it once and she is amazing here too.  Loretta makes you feel so at ease and talks much of the time she waxes, so you don't even notice (except for the sting) that she has done the job and you are ready to get off her table.  Love Loretta!!  You have to try her!!Angela - OMG!!  I've been having massages for 40 years and there is no one like Angela.  I've had them on Royal Caribbean cruises and at Sandals in Jamaica and at some of the best spas in Philly and Cape May and no one compares.  I love hot stone massages and she is a master at them.  She gives absolutely the best massage I've ever had.  And then one day, I decided to try a facial.  She's a master at those too!!  She gives the best facial and you leave with great skin and you also feel as relaxed as the day is long.  I have been doing facials for a little over a year and I get compliments on my skin regularly ... never happened before Angela arrived.Love Angela!!  You have to try her!!Pedro - This quiet, lovely man is the shampoo man at the Salon.  He gives the best head massage ever.  He rivals Angela at that.  And he never gets you wet when he shampoos you, something that happens often at many salons.  He's also a photographer. I went for my first time with a Groupon and will DEFINITELY be back!  If you are getting a Groupon for here...get a consult!!  I'm so glad I did.  I would have bought the wrong one and been disappointed.  Jen N did my roots, highlights and cut.  It looks awesome!  She talked with me when I went for the consult about what I wanted to have the end result be.  She was up front about the additional costs for my roots (Groupon was for the hightlights).  There was a possibility of needing toner, which she told me.  When I went to get my hair done, the week after the consult, she remembered what we had talked about for my hair, which impressed me.While I was there, I got my eyebrows done by Angela.  It was closing time, but she fit me in when Jen was done with me.  Hair looks great, eyebrows are cleaned up and I am one happy customer! We both felt they brought out our most beautiful features and put us at ease that our hair would be fit for the humid, rainy weather of the day. I'm new to the area and drive past this salon at least twice a day. After a bad experience at a chain salon I saw the ad outside for a cut and color for $75 for new clients. I called that day and made a appointment. Today I met Jenn who was nothing short of amazing. She made me feel comfortable and relaxed and was so knowledgeable and professional. I've been going here for years. Always a great  experience. The services I've had .....mani, pedi, facial and various waxings . My facial with Angela....in one word.....heaven....she's very professional and informative. Loretta always makes me comfortable.....even while ripping out hair....that's an accomplishment. I was very happy with the whole experience. I was looking for a new place to get my hair cut because I had just moved to the area and my much loved hair stylist of 5 years was many hours away. I came on quite a busy day but did not have to wait at all. My stylist listened eagerly to everything I had to say about what I wanted done with my hair and checked in with me multiple times through out the cut to make sure she was doing what I had in mind. She was extremely friendly and pleasant to talk with, as well. I am on the shy side and don't usually feel comfortable just talking aimlessly with people. But this woman had a talent for both hair and easing me into conversation. That is a true gift. In the end, she did what I wanted with my hair but not quite the way my old stylist used to. She put her own spin on it and, although I loved the way my old stylist used to cut my hair, I thought this slightly new spin on my hair looked amazing. I had a similar experience to another reviewer although I was not charged an additional cost. I think some of the staff is more interested in their own lives and talking about themselves than  your hair. The person who did my highlights did the exact same thing as with Pearl A. below - Dark hair overly highlighted then covered up. Ugh.. and all that bleach, dye, whatever is not good for your hair at all. Wish  theywould have listened and just got it right the first time. There are a lot of stylists working there and I'm sure some are excellent but be very specific about what you want and eliminate any small talk unless it's about you and your hair and hopefully you''ll get what you ask for. Bring a picture if you're looking for a new style and even a picture of the the color or highlights you're looking for. That might help. Read Less

The place is friendly and I was happy with the end result (highlights and hair cut). I asked for subtle highlights (dark caramel to blend with my black hair). However, when I was first shown the color, it was too bright and not what I wanted. I asked why it happened and was told that addition of excess bleach to the mix preparedcould cause this. I was unhappy and asked them to make it more subtle...However, to my shock, I was charged an extra $50.00 for the toner! I dont think it is fair that when a customer was not provided what was asked; the customer has to bear the brunt of it. I was so happy when I bought the highlights and hair cut deal on groupon. Unfortunately, I was ripped off by paying an extra $50.00 for the toner. So, be careful of what is done and how much of extra money you will have to pay. Read Less

My best friend and I bought a groupon for a hair cut and conditioning treatment at Salon Nochea, after deciding between here and two other places (in Fishtown and Bryn Mawr). We hesitated because there were no recent reviews and my friend wanted to get a couple inches cut off and was nervous. We made an appointment for a Saturday early afternoon and were both taken back right away. We first got our hair washed by this man named Pedro--who was awesome. I seriously did not want him to stop rubbing my head. He was definitely better than your average shampoo-er. Then I sat down with Jen, who had just started with this salon this summer. She not only asked me a ton of questions about how I care for my hair, to best serve me, but she also gave me a great hair cut. We chatted the whole time and it wasn't awkward conversation that you usually have with your hairdresser. She was genuine and kept giving me tips on different things I can try to better protect my hair. My friend, Amie, got her hair cut by Dawn. She showed Dawn pictures of what she wanted and with that, Dawn knew exactly what to do...but didn't overdo it. Dawn gave Amie exactly what she wanted and also gave her tips along the way. I wanted to write a good review but the mani/pedi experience was below standard and I feel potential customers have a right to know.   Everyone was friendly, too friendly?   Too much talk, not enough time listening, loud, unprofessional demeanor.  The mani person was trying hard, rushing, trying to accommodate multiple customers at once.   Really?   This was NOT a relaxed experience.  Unlike their website, this place is not clean, nail clippings on the floor, general disarray.  To top it off, nails were erroneously put under heat dry rather than cool dry so needed to return after ruining my nails seconds after leaving.  This brought my 1 1/2 hr experience to 2 hours and made me late fir work.  Wanted to return as nail person has great skills but she's too busy and disorganized to do things correctly.  Not hygienic, didn't receive box of tools as website review says.  Feel others need to be informed, as does the owner who accepted but didn't really want feedback, as she was consumed with concerns about a bad review.  I didn't review the salon for a couple of weeks as felt dissuaded but I just think its unfair to unsuspecting consumers.  If they clean up their act, the woman who does the mani/pedi slows down, listens, it could have potential.  But right now, it's not good at all. I'm new to the area and really needed my hair cut.  I had heard that a few people from neighboring business used this salon.  So I gave it a try.It was a little weird walking in, as the salon is a converted home.  But, you quickly get used to the place.  It has character.The receptionist is very nice.  So, I met Rachel, my stylist.  She was bright and cheery.  We talked about what was going on with my hair, and she understood immediately.  She laid out a plan of attack, and went to work.She is a great conversationalist, and a talented stylist.  She gave me a great hair cut.The proof is in the pudding, and I scheduled my return visit for 3 weeks later.The price was very competitive at $22 for a man's cut.
