My sisters and I went to Steel Magnolia Salon to get blow outs before dinner. The stylists were friendly and good. We were half way through our blow outs and getting our hair curled when someone (I’m assuming the manager) walked out of the back room and rudely asked us if we knew there was an up charge for curling our hair. We were never told this and since our hair was already halfway curled there was no turning back. The stylists apologized and said “we thought you knew.” Since it was their mistake I didn’t think they would still up charge us, but they did. Two friends and I decided we needed a day of pampering and wanted to try a new place.  We are from NJ but I've wanted to try this place.  We were not disappointed. In fact, the entire experience was fabulous.  We each wanted a massage plus a wrap.  We arrived at the time of our appointment (after having a lovely brunch at the Bethlehem Hotel) and received additional information on the types of massages and wraps available (really nice selection).  We each made our choices and were promptly brought into the dressing room which was just lovely.  The robes are plush and comfy and the slippers made me happy- no germs!We were then each greeted with our massage therapists and brought to our individual rooms.  I was very impressed with the overall decor and ambience.  Beautifully tiled bathrooms with showers and rooms decorated very calming and zen-like. After a really great massage and wrap, I was brought to the relaxation room where I was reunited with one of my friends. We sat and chatted - relaxed! - some more while we waited for our other friend. Once she joined us we were escorted back to the dressing room. Overall I give this spa 5 stars.  I get lots of massages (and mostly in NJ and NY) this place compares nicely to some of the better places I've been.  I highly recommend and am already planning a return visit. Convient stop for a couples weekend!  Both my husband and I had massages and pedicures.  Both services were great, and the staff was very professional and friendly.  It is a little pricey, but I think that comes with the connivence of the location!  Spa chairs were newer, and large selection of higher end nail colors to choose from.    Massage was in a nice clean room, and done very well.  I would book again! Massage therapists were good but the facility was run down and not high end like you would expect from the prices. Paid $270 for a couples massage and for 30 minute use of the steam room shower. The massages were great but the walls of the room were covered in a layer of dust, the steam room was just a shower that barely had any steam, had 2 shower heads which was nice. The waiting room of the spa was run down, crowded with hair products and looked cheap. The robes in the massage room also had a layer of dust on them, and you would think on a Saturday afternoon the place would be packed but we were the only customers in the massage half. Manicure review:  Overpriced and not worth $30.  Even though this salon is on the Sand's Casino website, it is not the "spa & salon" as advertised.  The technician was unprofessional in many aspects from the process application to her use of an over-used sanding block, to polish bottles that wouldn't open and finally to my nails chipping after one day.  My call to the manager was of no help as she explained every issue away without an apology whatsoever (even though she advised the technician has been employed there only two weeks).  She asked that I send in a pic of my nails which I did but received no response. Ok. First of all this review is not of my services. The only reason this place even gets two stars - is because my massage and facial were lovely. I will say - the massage therpaist i worked with needed a little bit of help positioning me (I'm 20 weeks pregnant), but I used to be a massage therapist so i was able to help her. other than that both of my services were a delight.Management on the other hand - you have some serious issues to work on.First of all - my lady friends and I were just on a little weekend, of pampering, dinner, and gambling. there were 14 of us - most of whom had booked well in advanced. still. this pace was completely unprepared for a group of any size really greater than 3 people.When we first arrived - five of us were all checked in and given our paperwork. and then left to stand in the waiting area. Not until we spoke up and asked if there was a relaxation room, did the young woman at the front desk shrug her shoulders and tell us "she guessed so". She led us to the back - to a "relaxation room:. with three (incredibly uncomfortable) chairs. I spoke up - given my history of 8+ years working in the spa industry, and asked if there were robes/slippers, or a locker room to change. The girl replied "well how many services are you getting?". DOES IT MATTER?? One of the girls in our group was placed into a room for her massage - without being able to change. I mean. Who wants to put on their clothes after getting a massage and having oily skin?? Most people prefer a robe to soak up any excess oil. plus its more comfortable than trying to put pants and a bra and shirt on after that. really ruins the experience.The other four of us were brought to the locker room - where there are FIVE lockers. really helpful with a group of 14. Our one friend had a dirty robe in her locker. I had no slippers and had to go to the front desk to ask for a pair - and there I found an different front desk girl sitting at the front desk with a massive plate of ravioli in front of her, who acted like she didnt even know what slippers were, and instead wanted to talk about the chinese new year celebrations going on in the outlets. Once changed, the four of us went back to the "relaxation room" where there was - still only three chairs, so one girl sat on an ottoman. There was no water. no nuts/dry fruit/snack of any kind. oh. and it was freezing. then they brought back two more of our friends - who were also not given any robes of any kind - who had to stand.During my massage - there were two other prenatal massages booked - one of whom was in my party. The woman not in our party was given the prenatal bolster (again - I was able to position myself because of my experince), but my pregnant friend was told - there was no bolster for her because someone else was using it, and she actually needed it, and was instead quite uncomfortable for her entire massage. POOR PLANNING - three prenatal massages at once, when you only own one bolster???Anotehr woman in our party was scheduled for a seaweed wrap - who was told AS she was brought back to the room - that (whoops) they forgot to order seaweed - so her service was canceled. They did not offer her any discount.A few of the other girls had complaints i cant even remember...But heres the deal. For the cost of this place - you need to get your shit together. plain and simple. Last year we went to the Mount Airy Lodge - who was less expensive, and immensely more amazing in every way. The receptionist who was there when I bought the gift certificate told me that the money was a "dollar amount" which she further explained as meaning if my mom wanted to get something else instead of what I paid for, she could just choose something, like instead of a facial, she could get a manicure or something. My mom told me that they charged her the full $145 for just her hair, all he did was dye it and trim the ends a little, AND charged her an additional $25 for service; which was not even mentioned to me when I bought her certificate. They didn't even show her a pamphlet listing the different treatments she could exchange hers for, and the guy who worked on her didn't even introduce himself. $145 is ridiculous for just dye and end trimmings. I started coming to Steel Magnolia Spa & Salon merely to buy gift certificates for teachers gifts. I finally treated myself to a haircut by the extremely talented Nick and I am now completely hooked! I treated my mother for a day at the Spa to be pampered and feel pretty. I was very Disappointed and I also had to LIE to my mother when she asked "How she looked?"!  They dyed her hair but at the back of her neck the color did not take!  They trimmed and styled her hair up in a bun and sprayed so much hairspray I fear for what little hair my mother has left!  I don't believe my mother was too happy with her hair because she kept asking me if it looked OK . . . How was I supposed to reply?  They waxed her eye brows but did Not shape them! . . . My God, she looked like Groucho Marx!  I voiced my disappointment with the stylist but was ignored, the stylist simply said that bushy eyebrows were in style!  They did her make-up  and made her look so pale!  My God I was so horrified and could Not say anything to keep from hurting my mother's feelings!  The only thing I was pleased about was her manicure . . . That at least looked OK!  And for all of this, I was charged $320. + $60 tip!!!!!!!!  Oh by the way, I was told what to pay for a tip.  NOT ACCEPTABLE! Read Less

Two of the stars are for my massage therapist who did a great job. The other star is for the manicurist who did a nice job shaping and cleaning up my nails but did a really poor job on the polish on my toes and a horrible job on my gel polish on my toes. For the amount of money I paid, they should look flawless. The receptionist was nice, but talking about inappropriate things in front of a new client, didn't even leave the desk to get me a robe, but had a coworker get it for me, didn't give me any instructions, no key for my locker, I could go on. I suppose since this is more of a destination place, they don't really care, but I care, because it's my one day to myself away from my family while on a work trip and I just wanted to relax.
