I am a little upset at the moment. I got my haircut and brows done yesterday after getting out of a bout of depression after losing my job. I was really looking forward to it as I have 4 interviews this week and really wanted a boost of confidence. I was scheduled with Molly, who is absolutely wonderful personality wise: kind, helpful, etc. I showed her a pic of myself with a haircut I really really loved. Molly said she could do it, and confirmed that the shortest layer would hit my cheekbone. I am completely blind without my glasses, so I honestly couldn't see what was getting done. I'm also a bit shy in correcting someone who probably knows better than I what they're doing. When I put my glasses on before she flat ironed it, the haircut look literally NOTHING like the one i showed her. The shortest layer is well below my chin. I was hoping maybe she was going to keep cutting it now that it was dry, but she just flat ironed it and put some product in. I didn't say anything because again I'm a little too shy to be like "This is not what I asked for," and it looked too short to be fixed. I do not own a flat iron and now have to go invest in one and spend an extra 15-20 every morning trying to figure out how to use it before I give up and tie it all back. My brows were fine. I feel bad complaining as Molly truly was enjoyable, this was just not what I asked for or wanted. I now feel I look closer to 40 than 30. I am 31. :(If you go, make sure you bring a printed picture to put on the mirror for them to refer to, or wear some contacts and have the guts to say something when it doesn't look right. A miracle happened in Troutdale today. That miracle was my hair. Last Friday I had gone to a trendy Portland studio and asked for a light pink/rose gold dye job and a cut. That's not what I got. My hair was cotton candy pink on top, magenta underneath, and splotchy beach blonde on the shafts. The haircut was...sad. Looked like I cut it myself in my sleep. I'll post the pics. Obviously, this would not stand. I needed help. I live close to this salon, so I gave them a call. On Monday I was able to get a consultation within a few hours time. I came in and met with the a-m-a-z-i-n-g Chelsea Johnson. She told me she could save my hair and she was totally right. I came in today (Thursday), and Chelsea went to work. I could explain the whole process, but I won't. Basically, she saved me. She knew exactly what to do and my hair came out gorgeous. I will absolutely be going back! Overall, the salon itself is great. It's comfortable, people are friendly, nicely decorated, great products, and they provide complimentary drinks. I have been going to Columbia Gorge for almost 10 years. If you can get it done there, I've done it. Kaylynn absolutely saved my skin. It was an angry mess until she took me under her wing and taught me how to actually take care of it. And I go to her for all my waxing needs and I get more compliments on my eyebrows than I ever thought possible. Amy is my favorite massage therapist on the planet. She is the kindest, sweetest person I've ever met and I leave there feeling like I was just on a week vacation. She's the best!Now for the miracle worker, Melissa Krause. She is the ONLY hair stylist I have ever known who actually does what you ask her to do, not what she thinks is best. She listens to what I want and she makes me feel like myself. I spent years with terrible haircuts (I have really difficult hair to cut/style) but once I found Melissa, I knew I'd never leave. Cami is an amazing hair stylist! I have been going to her for about 6 years and will not go to anyone else. I have long fine hair; which she is always able to make it look different. She adds lots of fun colors and does different things with the cut to keep it fun for me. I like going to her so much that I refuse to get my hair cut by anyone while I am in Japan. I fly into Oregon as much as possible to get my hair done by Cami. She is great with her coloring techniques. Over the years, I have really appreciated the time that she spends making sure that she knows what I am looking for at each visit. Now, I just let her do whatever she wants to with my hair and it always comes out wonderful! The salon has a wonderful relaxed atmosphere, and offers free coffee or wine while you are there.
