This was my second visit Midas and this time I  saw Nomi for a Sports Man-i-cure. As a guy at a nail salon I did not feel too comfortable the first time I went there three weeks ago. So, this time I convinced my wife and our dog Madiba to accompany me as a moral support.My cuticles have been tearing up and really killing me and causing some undo pain that this manicure process seems to cure.Nomi was sweet and very accommodating to alleviate my discomfort and reassured me many men do come to Midas for manicure and even Peducure and I should try a combo next time. I stumbled upon this place after lunch in the neighborhood recently. I wanted to get a shellac manicure redone. The space is bright, clean, and feminine. The team were all super nice, friendly, fast, and helpful. The owner helped me find the exact color I wanted out of the 100+ options. When I came time to put the new color on they moved me to a spot near the window with a lovely view of the blooming trees. Plus this is the only place that has offered fingerless gloves so that the skin on my hands would be protected from the UV lights that harden the shellac. Price point was slightly higher ($5) than my usual but the place felt cleaner and more cozy too. Go, you will get what you want and then some! Read Less

Stopped in to Midas the other day with a recommendation from an acquaintance. I was lucky enough to get service from Nia. Going into nail salons and coming out with exactly what I want is very rare especially in the pacific north west. I have been through trial and error with salons not caring about their  customer, rushing the process or simply not giving the quality service. This salon has totally changed my mindset. Tucked away on the 2nd level of a repurposed house is Midas Nails--more importantly, Miss Nia. I had just landed in Portland in town for the week attending a conference, and I was really hoping to find a decent place for a gel-fill. I was not disappointed. My nail tech Nia was amazing, fast, courteous.The salon is open late--till 8. The work was superior and I kinda wish I lived in Portland now. It took me awhile to find my nail place when I initially moved to the NW 23rd neighborhood but I'm so happy I did. Referred by a friend and I've been coming back ever since. It was awesome... the girl who completed my mani and pedi was awesome. Well I wore regular shoes because I went after working and at the end when the girl was done she asked me if I wanted the throw away sandals, I said sure... well the guy there, blatantly said in front of me, "No, don't waste them on her"... wow, I spent $55 there... the least I could get would be some $1.00 throw away sandals so my toes don't get messed up... I will be back tomorrow to get them fixed if they do.. that's ridiculous, I would've paid for them too if asked. How rude could you be? I’d follow Nancy to the ends of the earth but I’m glad I only have to travel one more block down Sunset Cliffs! The service was above and beyond excellent when I went in for a manicure at this wonderful little spa on NW 23rd. From start to finish, my manicurist went out of her way to make sure that I was relaxed and happy. It's the little details that stick out in my mind that made the experience great, from being offered tea right when I arrived, to the patience of my manicurist when I took a bit longer choosing a color from their impressive OPI and Chanel polish collection. The hand massage was great, and my nails and cuticles looked fantastic by the end of my appointment. I only lasted five days before I found another excuse to go in for some more pampering! I originally went here with a Living Social coupon. I cannot say enough negative things. The place firstly was dirty, I mean filthy. I also felt like the staff were rude and were gossiping about me. They did not offer me a gel manicure, which is what I had come in for; that was the coupon offer. I assumed they were doing that, and not knowing much about the difference, it was not until after that I realized they had not given me the gel polish. The reviews with those that purchased the Living Social Coupon are TRUE!!! The staff are very rude to those with the coupon. They tried talking me out of getting the GEL nails also because it would take longer than a regular manicure. They gossiped the whole time to eachother in Vietnamese and made me feel very uncomfortable. My pedicure turned out great but the nail polish they used was so low quailty,the nail polish started to chip in about a week ( pedicures i get at other salons last about a month) I will never go back to this nail salon again. I had the Living Social Coupon also. While I don't mean to complain about something that I had a coupon for, I do think that I should have received what was advertised. The salon was small and kind of dirty. The website made it look new and fabulous. This was not the case. I was disappointed the moment I walked in. There was nowhere to set my purse, so I had to leave my designer bag on on the floor, with all of the dirty nail shavings down there. While my manicurist was friendly, the pedicure was not relaxing at all. She dug down into my toe with the file, and didn't even realize it until it started bleeding. It hurt so bad! She only used the pumice stone on the arch of my foot. I do not know anyone who gets callouses on the arch of their feet. It was by far the shortest pedi I've ever received. Thank god, or she may have cut more of my toes with the file. Not to mention the awful paint job I got. I could have painted them better myself. I wasn't even offered the geli-manicure that was advertised. There was another lady in there with the LS coupon also who was being talked out of the gel polish as well. The manicure did not consist of ""manicuring"" my cuticles or nails. She just basically slathered some lotion on my hands and gave me a bad paint job. Again, I could have done it better myself. Overall, this was by far one of the worst salon experiences I have ever had. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Save your money and spend it somewhere else. Or just do your nails yourself. I also purchased the Living Social pedicure / manicure deal. Had an identical experience to the reviewer before me. We made a reservation & waited 20 minutes. It was the shortest pedicure that I have ever received; she painted my nails (poorly) & trimmed my cuticles. No massage, no mask, no hot towel. She had someone sitting next to her & they held a conversation the entire time. It was obvious that they were annoyed & put out by us using our LS voucher; they were not the slightest bit friendly. The manicure was much the same & they did nothing but try to talk me out of the gel manicure, which was advertised as part of the LivingSocial deal. I did Not end up getting the Gel Manicure. ""Spa"" pedicure & manicure: exclude the 20 minutes of waiting, services + drying time were 38 minutes. Had I spent the normal price of $52 for these services, I would have demanded half of my money back. Age Old Adage: You get what you pay for. Truly wish that they would have provided what they advertised, if so, they would have had a customer for life. I will never revisit Midas, there are far too many other great nail places in Portland that I will gladly pay $50 to. Read Less

I bought a deal of livingsocial for a half price service of pedicure and geli-mani. I paid $26 for the half price of $52 midas pedi and geli-mani. If you go to midasnailspa website the midal pedi includes the mask and hot towel wraps, which we did not get. I only got the salt scrub, not even moisturizer. We were only given a spa pedicure, so obviously we did not get what we paid for, even if it was half price. We recieved a $40 service instead of a $52 service. I understand we got a good deal to begin with, but the idea of businesses doing these deals is to get repeat customers off of them to help their client list. I will not be a repeat customer. We were scheduled at 11pm for our pedi's and mani's and they had another group of three scheduled at 12pm. If you go to a quality nail spa they certainly will spend more time than that on the services listed. Also they were short staffed that day so we had to wait 15 minutes when we arrived. My mother's technician was a fill in I believe because she did not know how to operate the equipment and she did not do a very good job with the polish. The part of the service that irritated me the most was that the package we purchased included the geli-mani. A much more expensive OPI Axxium soak off Gel. The technicians did every bit of persuading she could do to get us to not do the geli-mani and do a regular mani instead. I assume because it is faster for them to do, cheaper, and easier. I was so disgusted with these tactics. And to top it off while I was picking out my color she kept trying to get me to choose a CND Shellac UV Color Coat (which is not a gel) instead of the OPI Axxium! If you want to be treated like you are at a used car lot then I definitely reccommend you go here. Maybe they treat their full paying customers better. But if that is the kind of service they provide for their half price deals then they should not do them. Because of that I will not be going back to the Midas Nail Spa. Read Less

We had purchased a groupon deal for this place that included a pedicure and their gel manicure. The pedicure wasnt bad but my ecperience with the gel manicure was not as delightful. I regularly get gel manis at my spa but decided to try this place due to the deal. First of all, they charged me $15 for the removal of my existing gel polish (you just have to soak your fingers in alcohol for 15 min) where my spa would never charge for such a simple process. Then when the texh painted my nails, it looked as if I did it myself at home. The poish was in my cuticles which is a no no with gel. Lastly they topped off the gel with regular OPI top coat instead of the proper gel top coat. Needless to say, although I got this great couipon deal, I ended up paying more money the next day to get it fixed. I came here due to the reviews on here so I figured I should share how my experience was: AWESOME. They weren't super chatty and rude like some places are, and they just overall did a fantastic job! I took my mother along with me and she is a hard woman to please, but enjoyed her deluxe mani/pedi. Came with a good moisturizing massage, salt scrub, foot mask, and paraffin dip. I visited Midas based on reviews, and am extremely glad that I did. I called early in the afternoon for a same-day manicure at 5:15. When I arrived and said that I had a 5:15 appointment, they greeted me by name, which was pleasantly surprising. After being directed to choose my polish from the Opi selection, I was offered water, hot tea or a glass of wine. The nail technician who did my manicure did an excellent job. One thing I liked is that she didn't try to talk my ear off - she was quiet and very efficient. After finishing my manicure, I was able to sit with my hands under the dryer for as long as I wanted to. As I was leaving, I was thanked for coming. The salon is small, but cozy (not claustrophobic) and very clean. It's set up to make the most out of the limited space without being cluttered. All three of the girls there are polite and efficient, and do an excellent job. Prices are on par with other nail salons in the area, but the service sets it far above the multitude of other nail salons in NW Portland. Highly recommended! I can't wait to go back next time! One girl help us to select colors and another set-up the chairs and Wendy offer us for drinks. This is a great experienced to us. I have come to Midas for more than one year now...for about 3-4 visits per month! I am always greeted with a smile and a happy nail tech! The service is consistently wonderful; the salon and implements are always clean and sanitized. I have referred many people there and all people have left happy and many continue to visit Midas. Wendy and her staff are wonderful! Midas Nail Spa is exceptionally clean, modern and comfortable. Always accommodating, they work with your schedule to make sure appointments are convenient. lets just say you get what you pay for. the color selection is not the greatest. my nail was cut into a really sharp corner and then cut into the next toe a few times during the massage. then came the salt into a fresh wound...ouch! all that to find that the nails weren't even shaped nicely when i got home. buyer beware. I contacted Wendy with a huge request: to host my bridal party and myself (11 ladies in all!) to a morning of pampering and they went above and beyond!! She closed down the shop for us, provided us with pastries, fruit and mimosas and got us in and out on time. The prices are incredible and the quality of service was amazing. I made a same-day appointment to get a spa pedicure. They were very pleasant on the phone, and accommodating.
