Went because of a Yelp discount. The lady who gave me a pedicure shortened mine by 7 minutes (my friend was getting one with me). She also only painted the middle of my toes and not all the way to the sides. I asked if she could do the whole nail and one lady said it's so the sides don't run. I just waited. Then the one who finished my friend took off the polish and repainted them, which only took 5 minutes. I liked the final results, but it was not somewhere I'd recommend. Read Less

My acrylic nails are filed down sideways. I asked for coffin nails and the woman repeatedly told me I should get square nails (most likely because it makes her job easier). I asked for my nails to be more narrow and she filed them down to nothing. The nail polish was old, thick and had globs in it. You couldn't pay me to come back here. Read Less

It totally bums me out to have to give this place 2-stars because the staff is genuinely friendly, the  place is clean and nicely maintained, and they have beer and wine... but there are some serious downsides.I've had 3 pedicures and 1 manicure here (because I like to give places a chance).  I almost never get a manicure, this was for a wedding.  The pedicures are where most of this review lies.Having a toddler, I pretty much only am able to do shellac these days since I generally can't get a pedicure every month like I used to, and I can leave in my own shoes (do you have any idea how hard it is to run after a toddler in those fake little flip-flops while the dog is incessantly trying to lick your toes?).  That being said, when I do a pedicure, I do it right - always the big daddy spa pedicure.  Sure it's more spendy, but it's worth it to me.Pedicures generally run around $30-$35 + the cost of shellac, right?  So this place charges $45 for a big daddy pedi... then an additional $10 for shellac.  It's a $55 pedicure + tip and honestly - it's just not worth it.The quality was fine, but it was DEFINITELY not the color I chose.  When I said something (since no one there puts a stroke of the polish on and actually asks you if you like it before they complete your whole experience), the lady just said that the sun must have lightened up the sample color because they sit in the window.  Neat.  Now I have death toes instead of the color I'd originally picked.Back to the $45 dollar experience as opposed to the $25 one - the difference was supposed to be an extra long massage, a leg mask, paraffin foot treatment, and a hot stone massage.  My girlfriend got a manicure the exact same time as I got my pedicure and we were done at the exact same time.  The massage wasn't very long (or good... she just basically rubbed the lotion in my legs, no massage or anything) and the hot stone massage was maybe 2 minutes at the most! (again, she just rubbed stones on my legs, no massage or anything).To reiterate - the people are nice and friendly, the space itself is attractive and well maintained, but the cost doesn't justify the quality or experience.  You can get better for less elsewhere. Letter from a disappointed boyfriend:I bought my girlfriend a Gift Card to Unique for her Birthday in February. She went to use the card on a ManiPedi today but was told that because the Salon is under new management that she would not be able to redeem. The lady at the counter wanted her to hand over the gift card for disposal and to pay full price. When questioned, the lady suddenly acted like she did not speak good English and said she had another client to attend to and walked away.The card still has the Address, name of the establishment, and the value clearly printed. Extremely satisfied with my visit today. ViVi was fast, but not careless... she was professional, gentle, and did a fantastic job... i was impressed. I have been following Kevin and getting my nails done every since he first started.  It is amazing to see what an artist he has become in his field. He is ALWAYS both personable and professional. Because he is the only nail artist to do acrylics in the salon he is very busy - but as I have read in previous reviews - just book ahead and you will have no problems. I am sure it must not be easy to find manicurists that are artistic and creative rather than simply technicians, especially when it comes to acrylics! I get shellac, pedicures and sometimes regular manis and have been pleased with all the other manicurists.  I appreciate the free glass of wine, water or beer each time I arrive and am always greeted right away. We all have days when we might not be 100% - but I have never had an experience at Unique Nails that would keep me from coming back! Read Less

I wish I could give a higher review, more stars, but I can't. Kevin is charming and communicates extremely well, and makes you feel special by remembering your name and taking very good care of you. For this I give five stars. I am very disappointed; however, in the quality of my pedicure. The lady who did my pedicure's name was Lee and I think she is an apprentice and has not done very many pedicures. My nails were cut unevenly, the polish application is sloppy and all over my skin despite her trying to clean it up with a paintbrush and acetone. The worst part though, was that when Lee was filing my big toe nail, the edge of the file was against my skin and she filed so hard that she filed a cut in my skin so that every time she put alcohol or acetone on,it  stung like the dickens and was pretty unpleasant. I LOVE getting my nails done here! I have been here 3 times, 2 deluxe pedis and 1 shellac manicure. Kevin is the nicest guy- making sure his customers are comfortable and happy during their procedures. My shellac manicure today was fantastic- the tech took her time and worked slowly to ensure every detail was absolutely perfect. I have been coming here for several years and am always greeted warmly and my name is always remembered. I have a free beer while I wait and get a meticulous manicure. Haley is the best! This is the best pedicure experience I have had, and for the best price! I love everything about Unique Nails from the chairs, to the paraffin wax that's included in the service, to the massage. Most places charge $30-35 for everything that is included in their basic pedicure which costs $20-25. The best part? The customer service! The staff remembers you even after just one visit. The fridge is stocked with complimentary drinks. And they really care about their clientele. Despite living in downtown Portland, I will make the drive to go back to Unique Nails. Customer for life! So I am torn to hear all of the negative feedback when honestly Kevin is the best nail tech I've had. Not to brag but his nails are by far advanced in that his designs are acrylic, not stick on or painted. (Besides roses and gems) he does take his time but it's because he takes pride in his work. If you actually had a conversation with him you would learn that he is his biggest critic. He lets negative energy motivate him to be better so there are no more negative customers that had a misunderstanding. He does book 3 weeks out which can suck but it's because he has that many clients. Don't be offended if he refers you to other nail techs because he is trying to please you and make sure you still get an excellent outcome. Worst nail experience EVER! Booked a appointment with Kevin after seeing his work on Instagram. Scheduled Friday the 7th of February Paid the 15$ deposit. A day before my appointment he text to try and reschedule me for a later time in the day due to "weather conditions" I remind him that I was also going in with my friend & asked if her appointment will also be pushed back? Then I get a reply like oh I'm sorry I ment for another day?!?! I was completely understanding and said yes, only to get on my Instagram the next day to see him post pictures of his work before & after the times we would have been scheduled. It was snowing during this time on Friday the 7th I was running errands all day & got around perfectly fine. Monday comes around and he Text again asking me to call and reschedule?!?  I kindly state that I would not like to reschedule with him I would like a refund for both deposits due to the circumstances. He was willing to give me my refund & claimed that the pic was a late post from a couple days back. Which is perfectly fine it's really his word against mine he offers a free service I politely decline. Then he goes so far as to text my friend telling her I was extremely upset & if she would like a free service she politely declines. Then he goes so far as to insult the both of us saying "Ok sweet thanks! also thanks for letting me know how you guys feel...I was going to do my best to get you back in but with how your friend assumed things and getting  upset over An appointment being cancel of the weather it's shows me you and her are not the kind of clients I want to have..thank you  for saving me the hassle and time and cutting things off before I have to deal with your friends attitude later down the road...have a nice day and I will send you your deposits:) "(I put this picture in the photo album) I was never once rude to him I just simply stated how I felt! A little disappointed with how Kevin is changing his business. Now he charges $37 and you have to put down a $15 deposit to hold your spot, what?! He no longer does jewels on full fingers because "its not what he does" , isn't his job to please the customer? He over books himself and I was always waiting at least 20 minutes before he was even finished with the person before me.
