Terrible scheduling! They had me sit and wait for 30 min between pedi and mani. My daughter and I had appointments for pedi and mani as soon as the salon opened. They had several walk ins. The lady that did my pedi had me sit in a mani spot (not next to my daughter) and wait/watch for almost 30 mins while she did the nails of a walk in customer. My daughter was done before she even started my nails. Then after I had my sandals on she thought she should do a top coat on my toes which ruined the polish. A waste of money! Read Less

Terrible place!! I got a acrylics, they charge for length and shape. The prices are ridiculous for the quality. I also got a pedicure and they must have treated someone with fungus because my feet look terrible, and I've never gotten fungus or had any issues with my feet until coming here. Removed my acrylics by ripping them off with another nail. I specifically requested they not to do that because it hurts a lot, and they did it anyway. They applied sloppy acrylic that came off after a week. I wanted stiletto nails, but was given square nails. I left with ugly nails that I overpaid for. Went in without checking the price so that's my fault, acrylics ended up being $42 without the tip and that's pretty pricey. A couple of my nails aren't the same length, and she painted my nails the wrong color. I had picked out a #5 color and she couldn't get it open. She pretended to have another nail tech open it for her and then grabbed another color and painted my nails. It wasn't too different so I barely noticed until she had already started. TL;DR - STOLE MY MONEY, bad acrylic job, does not know how to execute simple almond shaped nails (ALL are crooked)Been here twice, both times got acrylics done. The first was mediocre - the acrylic was super thick and looked more unnatural than most. My nails were tender for a few DAYS afterwards. Though it did last over a month without a single chip or crack. Decided maybe I didn't jive with the tech's style so I went back to give it another shot.Went yesterday after a long week of moving and studying for finals. I got a full set mani and spa pedi. The pedicure was good, very relaxing. I was left unattended for about 10 minutes before someone came to start working on me. Even then he took breaks while working on me to clean the seats next to me and always seemed preoccupied. This didn't bother me much since I just wanted to close my eyes and relax. The pedicure job was good, but not as close to my cuticles as I would have liked.On to the full set. It was a different tech than the one I had previously so I had hopes. Here are the pros and cons:Pros-The acrylic was a good thickness - way better than my first set. I think it's cause she filed down the acrylic again after applying it instead of continuing on. Because of this my nails are not nearly as sore as my first set. In fact - no pain at all, which is how it should be-She was nice and made conversationCons-I asked for almond shape. At first they looked fine, but once she finished and I took a look....ALL my nails are CROOKED with a lot more attention to the right side of the nail than the other. It looks like I'm pointing to the right when I'm really point straight. One nail is cut at almost a 45 degree angle!!!! It's so hard to look at-Not close to cuticle - it looks like I got it done a few days ago when it has been less than 24 hours. The part that really tipped me over and is why I will not be returning....STOLE MY MONEYThe price for a full set with gel nails (what I got) is $45. I saw the pricing sheet right next to my tech's station.What was I charged? $50.She even hesitated before writing it down. The student discount is $5, so TECHNICALLY I paid FULL PRICE. I thought she was really sweet and nice when she was working, I was even willing to let the oddly shaped nails go and give them another try with a different nail shape next time, but not anymore. How rude. I did nothing to warrant an overcharge besides maybe request nail shape that warrants a little more time and effort to execute. Slay mama, my nails always come out looking ready to slash throats and open cans with her manicures. I usually get gel color changes because I don't like massages or greasy feeling skin, and that helps cut down the cost a smidge. My gel manis basically last as long as my nails grow. I called ahead to make an appointment and to make sure they would be able to do my nails within my 1 hr lunch time. They assured me I would be in and out within a hour. I got there right on time and was told it would be a couple minutes. I then sat and waited for 20 minutes with someone coming up to me every 5 mins or so to say it would just be another minute or 2. I finally just got up and left only to be chased down in the parking lot....literally one of the employees ran out after me. I told them I had to get back to work and there wouldn't be enough time. No one apologized. No one seemed to care that I had an appointment. I get that they do walk ins and stuff but why have people make appointments if you dont honor those times? I did my due diligence by letting them know my time constraints and confirming they would be able to work within them. They could have called me to let me know they were running behind. Good service, depending on who you get! Sometimes the younger ones work too fast and are kinda rough, I usually get acrylic nails and I have had a few women who yank and tug my hands. I love this salon! I have been going to Ann for over 4 months now for my acrylics and she does an AMAZING job! No broken nails no lifted nails!  I live in Albany but I'm happy to drive to Corvallis because of her great quality of work and awesome customer service! She's very kind! Avoid Ann at all costs! She bad mouths other women in the salon, claiming whatever woman did your acrylics did a lousy job. She also tore my actual nail peeling the acrylics off. She refused to soak in acetone both times I ended up with her and needed one (or the full set the last time) removed and replaced. I haven't experienced childbirth yet but my bet is getting your acrylics ripped off ranks pretty close on the pain scale. She also answered her personal phone (calls and texts) during my appointments. She had to set my hands down several times to take care of whatever business was more important. Both times I got my acrylics filled the tech didn't trim my cuticles so I had to go back after 2 weeks instead of 3. Plus! At $18, their acrylic fills are the most expensive in town for marginal work that shows lines, bubbles and lifts after 4 days. Read Less

I've been going to Modern Nails now for almost two years and I have never had a bad mani or pedi.  My mani's don't chip and last about two weeks but it's because my nails grow out fast.  My pedi's last about 6 weeks.  I usually have Tea as my tech, but I have had several techs and they all are very good.  I like how they help each other out if running late.  I am always greeted with a friendly hello and haven't had to wait over about 5 minutes for my turn.  I have recommended Modern Nails to friends and now they are regulars too! My nail tech complained about her life the entire time, complained about working there, and cut my finger open and said that it was my fault for having a hang nail (that I didn't have). My nails did end up looking great though! I was just so uncomfortable the entire time because this woman obviously hated her job and I was making her work. I have been going to Modern Nails for almost 8 years, and I am always impressed with how beautiful and long-lasting their gel manicures are. I got this gel manicure 16 days ago before a crazy trip where I travelled to 6 countries within 9 days. We're talking planes, trains, taxis, and lugging 50 lb. luggage up cobblestone streets. Since the nail tech just left me here to sit and dry indefinitely without even bothering to tell me what's up while she went to work on someone else, I figured I would write a review. Two stars because the place is clean. One star for the horrible service and the ugliest manicure ever. The nail tech was dressed like she just rolled out of bed. I'm sorry, but when you are straddling people all day, wear appropriate length shorts, not the kind that are so short they almost show your lady bits. After scheduling an appointment and showing up on time, my friend and I started our pedicures and relaxing in their comfy massage chairs. When it came time for polish, the woman working on my friend disappeared--leaving the woman working on me to take care of both of us for the rest of our appointment. During my pedicure, my cuticles were cut too much and too aggressively, leaving me bleeding and with a weird scar above my nail. The person working on me didn't think I noticed and continued to douse it with alcohol. We moved to our shellac manicures where the one technician seemed to have a hard time finishing our appointments before they closed. Because of this, she made the cuticle on my hand bleed-again, splashing alcohol on it. Because she was left alone to work on our two pedicures and shellac manicures, our appointment ended up taking 2 hours with us staying 30 mins past close. Not even 2 hours after our appointment, my friend noticed her polish chipping. She went in the next day and was taken care of. I have tried a number of nail salons in the Corvallis area and Modern Nails is by far my favorite. They give the best pedicure out there and their staff is super friendly. Julie is my go to person. I have super thin nails and she was able to give me advice on how to make them stronger. My nails always look perfect after I see her. They are also really easy to schedule with although I recommend making an appointment especially if you want to see someone specific. I never go anywhere else in Corvallis to get my nails done. Be persistent to soak your nail acrylic rather then letting them use a nail to pop, pull and rip it off. The lady that started on my nails wouldn't listen to me. I asked to soak and she told me it would take too long. I told her I had all day and willing to pay. A guy took over and he finished the job I asked for. Painless. I absolutely love Modern. The staff are extremely friendly. This is my go to place. Corvallis is a small town and I don't think there are that many great salons here, that being said I think Modern has the best prices/service in town. They recently redid the interior and it looks great. My manicures last forever! They have an awesome selection of colors for Shellac. One thing I love about Modern is they know who on their staff is best at certain things, like nail art, and they'll have that person take care of that customer.
