Tried this place again with my mom and we both go the simple pedi, just need a little foot love and fresh coat of paint. It started off very well then started to go downhill very quick. The ladies were very pushy of their new promotion going on. I kindly said no I just need to the simple pedicure. They persisted to ask me to tell my mom that we needed the promotion they had. I then firmly told them NO! From there we continued talking and she asked me why I wasn’t so dolled up or my nails done like girls my age and if I had a boyfriend and if he liked the way I looked as I am and not all nails done with makeup. That really made me uncomfortable and a little offended. I would tread lightly when coming here. I love Lydia's! I don't go anywhere else to get my nails done. Lydia is awesome. She takes really good care of my nails and has so much patience when I can't choose one of their many gorgeous colors. I had a terrible experience and decided I will never return. In my last visit the technician hurt my nails while removing the gel, filed them poorly leaving snaggy edges, and then applied the color badly (not enough color so that the paint job looked splotchy, and the edges were over my cuticles and messy). She is not yet trained for the job. I felt I was paying to be a guinea pig. I asked her to fix this thing or that thing multiple times, but she did not have the ability to adjust the way she was working. I got artwork applied to one nail in each hand. Despite me requesting that she did so, the technician did not paint over the crystals, so they fell off within hours of me leaving the salon. This was extra frustrating because I had anticipated that this would happen, and had requested for the crystals to be properly secured. The technician and the owner went against me and assured me they were secure, when they were not. After leaving the salon I called that same afternoon to say that my nail job was a disaster, the crystals had fallen off. I was given an appointment for four days later to fix my nails. I waited with messed up nails for 4 days for this appointment. On that day, I was told that the same inexperienced technician was going to redo my manicure, only if I paid the full fee again. I'm sorry but that is too much to ask out of a customer - to pay twice for painful and bad service! I have been to this salon a few times. The owner seems to have difficulty keeping staff, as I have seen over the last year a couple of technicians come and go. The current person she has hired is very sweet and friendly, but too inexperienced and just not ready to provide profesional nail services. In the past the owner has done clean work on my nails, her hired staff, less so.  But this poor customer service experience has made me understand that she is also not interested in keeping her customers either. Since I had to pay all over again, I decided to take my money elsewhere, where they removed my polish without pain, and did a clean paint job for the same price. Read Less

The nail technician was very inexperienced and it was clear in how she took off the gel that was on my nails and also how she reapplied it after. She forcefully ripped off the gel peeling many layers off of my nail in the process and leaving them with indentations. I had to tell her multiple times that she was hurting me and while she was very nice and apologetic it was clear she didn't know what she was doing. After she filed my nails they were jagged with pieces of nail hanging from the ends and there was dust left on them which I had to asked her to remove. The gel she applied after was very sloppily painted on and was left on my cuticles and dripping into the sides. When I pointed this out to her she was very nice every step of the way but clearly was just too inexperienced to improve the work she was doing. I felt like I was having my nails done by a child on a sleepover. I left a very unhappy. The salon owner gave me a five dollar discount for the poor job that had obviously been done which was nice but not quite enough considering the experience. For the next 24 hours my nail beds hurt and were sensitive to heat. Never in the many times I've gotten a gel manicure had I experience that. This is the very first review I'm writing on yelp and I'm writing it so that someone else can hopefully be spared the pain. I was looking for a new nail salon as I was unhappy with the salon I had been going to and it was quite a distance from home. I was so happy to find Lydias Nail Salon right here in Oberlin. I found the salon to be exceptionally clean and inviting. I spoke with Lydia about trying her services and she was very professional and pleasant to talk with. I like my nails a certain way as most of us do and Lydia worked with me and spent the time to make it right! The salon will be offering essential oil mani and pedis soon and I can't wait to try them. Bad experience. Walked in a was told it would take 1 1/2 hours for pedi and mani. She suggested I leave my number and she would keep my place and call me when she was done. I called back 1 and 1/2 hours later and was told it was the "store policy" to only have walk-ins and that my place was not held. She had suggested I leave my number! I can not imagine in a small town like Oberlin, to have to sit and wait that long and not be allowed to leave and still keep your place. At other walk in salons they do this! Lydia's Nail Salon is a welcomed new addition to the town of Oberlin. Her salon is clean, comfortable with a modern feel. Her knowledge of skin and nail care is impressive and reassuring. It is not like the typical nail franchise as the staff is ver personable and engaging. The prices are incredibly reasonable and the service is spectacular.
