After 3.5 hours in the salon, less money in my bank and now with hair texture that resembles freshly dried hay, my new hair color looks nothing like the hair color that I asked for initially during the "consultation" (btw, expect an extra charge called "color assessment" on your way out). I had asked for rose gold (I brought a photo so they could see what I wanted).  They bleached my hair then dyed my hair to a color thst I could have achieved with those inexpensive boxed hair dyes you get from Target or CVS WITHOUT needing to bleach my hair in the first place. When they saw how different my hair color was, they tried to mitigate the copper hair color by adding in few token strands of red. It didn't do much - if it did, I wouldn't be spending my time writing this review, right? In the end they tried to convince me that my hair color was "closer to the hair color that I wanted" which upset me more, since it was the equivalent of someone saying that if you looked close enough, purple is basically the same color as blue.My hair is too dry to get anything done to it now. But I'll be heading to a hair salon (needless to say, NOT this one) as soon as I can since the nicest comment that I can make about my current hair is that it's not "atrocious" (kind of like when you're telling someone who can't cook that their cooking is edible).I guess if you're the type to not care what your hair color is after you spend money and time to get your hair dyed, this place may be for you. But if you want your hair to look a certain way, try your luck elsewhere. Read Less

I'm new to the area and wanted to get my hair recolored and found this salon on Yelp. The employees are all EXTREMELY friendly and their prices are great for coloring, however I made an appointment looking for a completely new color and they told me they didn't do bleach outs which I've never encountered at a hair salon before. We discussed options for my color since we couldn't achieve what I wanted without bleaching. The new color we chose looked great when I left the salon but it's been less than a week and it's already faded out quite a bit. Read Less

I came in for  cut with Allison, and besides the paraffin wax not being ready for me to try it was good experience. She was very polite and listened to my request and didn't go off and did as she pleased with my hair.They have team mantality, and you can tell, there isnt any odd employee competition amongst stylists. I saw Alyson for a heavy highlight with a 4 color ombre special effect. She took her time to plan and discuss the plan before my appointment. It turned out perfect and I am in love with my new color! I had the pleasure of colorist/stylist Alyson when I went to the Colorist Bar Salon. I love my hair, she was very informative with all kinds of knowledge. She cut my hair, did 2 colors on my hair, and blew it dry while styling it. Alyson is a very out going person and she was entertaining as well. Just a totally relaxed visit. What do I like about The Colorist Salon? Everything. I've been coming here for many years and have never left feeling that: "I spent too much money, My color or cut wasn't great, the staff was rude, etc.. like I have felt at other hair places over the years. Melissa is the BEST. The atmosphere is warm, friendly, clean, the service is superior, they never overbook, I'm not lost at the salon for 3 hours. I go in, get my hair done, and leave. My daughter came home looking like she was wearing a halloween witch wig....the worst color I have ever seen in any salon, even Walmart!!!! Worse, they say they can't do a thing about it because they are booked until next week. She has a job interview so she now has to spend more money to get this fixed. And management is supposedly out until Feb 28...something wrong here. Suggest you better choose another salon...there is no excuse for color this bad especially when a consultation was done a week prior and assurances were made that the color choice would LIGHTEN the hair, not make it blue black...what a mess.Read Less

I found The Colorist by word of mouth 3 years ago. Obviously, I like the salon because I'm still going regularly.The staff is warm and welcoming. Willing to make suggestions for change, if you're adventuresome, or keep with your current style.The Colorist has been on the Fox 8 list for several years running for Best Color. I get my hair colored and have had several changes over the last few years. A highlight (no pun intended) for me is being able to pick from the extensive color selections and help concoct my personalized color.The salon tries, and succeeds, in keeping their pricing lower or competivitive with competition.
