Yo--what is up with the nail and hair salons in Dayton? I consider them overpriced, and that's comparing them to New York City! I went to Happy Nails last week after doing a ridiculous amount of boring yet always strangely amusing shopping (i.e., The Dollar Tree, The Dollar Store, $1.00...basically anything denoting "very, very, inexpensive"), and thus I had no reason to think that a little, standard issue nail salon in the middle of a shopping plaza with a DOTS and Dominos with an adjacent Goodwill Center and more of the junk shops previously mentioned to be...well, expensive. I got a mani/pedi that was one of those "two people at once" deals (which sounds dirty, but it isn't--actually, it is just NOT relaxing at all), but figured oh well. The woman who owned the place said I was "late," pointing at the clock (we did not have a scheduled appointment, so I don't know how I could actually have been "late," but I did call at nearly 7pm to see Β what their hours were, and she told me to come in. I got there in 10 minutes, and when I saw the sign on the door read, "7:30," felt badly, but I figured since she didn't care, why should I?).Now, they do have an outstanding color section--meaning that at least it's OPI and Cassie, which are SO much better than the standard dollar store brand some nail salons offer--so I quickly chose a deep orange/red, and that was that. The next thing I know, I have both of these ladies chopping away at my hands and feet, telling me, over and over, that I NEED the gel polish (I HATE the gel polish), that I NEED tips (I just got back from a trip that included WEEKS of hiking. Sorry my nails suck. Tips are just not for me, thanks, I explained. 10,000 times). And yes, after hiking and traveling 10,000 miles in six weeks, your feet are messed up. That's why I'd gone in. The DIY callus removal was just not working, and my feet actually hurt all the time. She did an okay job: a B-, totally average, but I was disappointed she didn't use the razor and only this tool that looks like a cheese grater. Whenever I said, "I need the razor too. Do you have those?" she would just hold up that cheese grater again, so I finally said to forget it.Very mediocre manicure and pedicure...and $$$. Whoa baby. They did well with the cuticles, but did not go above and beyond for ANYTHING else. I mean, I can still see my old nail polish on two nails. That's crazy. AND they charged me FORTY DOLLARS FOR THIS?! Say WHAT? I'm sorry, but a low end mani-pedi (that's way better, really!) costs like $25 MAXIMUM. I used to get my eyebrows waxed when I lived in Brooklyn, and it would still be under $30. I was FLOORED by the prices here! Further, when I took my shoes off when I get home, I had to give myself a second little pedicure, as it was seriously half-done. Wow. Very disappointed.Where do I go ladies? I am flat clueless here. :( Read Less
