This was my first Spa Day experience. I had had a massage before but never a facial. This day really exceeded my expectations. I felt comfortable with it being my first Spa Day and time to Mitchell’s. Everyone was so nice and made me feel special. I came in to the Kenwood location for a massage.  I regularly go to an Aveda salon for my spa services, but needed some very last minute work on my very tight/stressed back.  I booked the day before and the only therapist available was a "massage director", so I assumed she would be pretty good because that is the 2nd highest tier of their ranking system.  I don't know how those levels are determined, but I would expect that if I am paying more for these services that they would be superior to the lower levels.  It was certainly not the case here.I walked into the salon and about 4 girls were standing around chatting with each other.  One girl greeted me, but did not stop her side conversation with the others.  She took me back to the locker rooms and showed me the ropes.  The locker room and relaxation rooms were nice.  My therapist came in and was very friendly.  We spoke about what I needed and got started.  She started on my back and I was a little concerned about her technique.  She basically gave me a back rub, not much pressure at all.  I'm used to pressure during my messages and can usually feel when knots are being worked out.  Not the case here.  I kept thinking "Surely, she is going to use a little pressure.  Maybe she is just getting started?" It never really changed throughout the hour.  I'm very disappointed in the price I paid for this service.  When the massage was over the therapist was slightly pushy in getting a next apt, which is a slightly stressful end to a message imo.  I don't think I'll be back. I had a gel manicure with Sherry yesterday and was very pleased with her work. She was fun and interesting to talk to and my nails look great.I hope the manicure lasts. Last time I had this service at Mitchell's within a week one nail suddenly lost it's polish so I had to just clean the rest of them off---I mentioned this to Sherry and she told me to come back if I had problems and she'd make it right. While I appreciate that sentiment it is a pain to have to return. The gel polish product is not as durable as it was when they used OPI but apparently it's better for your nails. Read Less

I called at the last minute to try to schedule an appointment to get a polish change on my toes. The receptionist was more than accommodating and suggested the best possible person for the job, available that day, April!  Wow did I luck out! April is more than exceptional. Not only did she give me an outstanding French manicure on my toes, but once I saw how incredible she was, I asked if she had time to do my fingernails and she was more than  happy to oblige! When I called initially, I didn't think it would be possible to do anything with my fingernails as they had broken off -- many below the skin line. But when I saw how accomplished April was, I questioned whether or not she thought they could be salvaged. Not only  did she accomplish the impossible -- by making my nails look amazing (with a French manicure), but she made the entire experience fun and relaxing.  I don't often pamper myself, but I received a gift certificate last Christmas and decided to take advantage of it. I could not have wished for a better outcome.Although reviews stated that Mitchell's is overpriced and their technicians aren't all that great, I would beg to differ. At least my experience was far better than I could ever have imagined. I hesitate to say too many good things about April for fear she will be overbooked and I may never get in to see her again -- at the last minute -- which is often the only way I can schedule anything. The only location I will ever go to is the Tri County location. I had been to the west chester location only once but they were very "Snooty". I just went to Tri county yesterday and as always nothing but great service by everyone. The receptionists the other employees and Van who did an amazing cut. I visited the Kenwood location on a Friday morning, they were very busy but the front desk kept the line moving quickly and my nail tech was only focused on me while I was in her chair. I found Lillian online after she put out a model call. She's within her first year of training with Mitchell's and needed some practice so I volunteered. I arrived in Kenwood just before my appointment. You have to take the elevator upstairs so budget that in your time. Upon entering, I was really pleased with how clean, professional and bright the salon was! The ladies checked me in and within minutes I was back with Lillian.This salon is huge! I can imagine this place sees a literal ton of clients. The booths are large with double mirrors and a nice, comfy chair. I had a lot of hair so Lillian and I discussed donating it to Pantene. She measured it and got started right away. I have extremely thick, wavy hair so it took quite some time to get through the cut (almost two hours!) but I left extremely confident and absolutely loving my new, shorter style. Lillian is engaging yet also learning! Which is fine with me! I love that we didn't feel obligated to make small talk the entire time! I'd rather have my stylist focused :) we did a dry cut and didn't have time for a wash and dry but hopefully next time I can get this done and update! Only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because I did have to clip a very small strand when I got home but once again, this was just a model call and she is still perfecting her cuts!In the meantime, I love my cut, I enjoyed the light product she used to straighten my hair and I will be going back! Super bad experience start to finish. I have relatively damaged hair so I wanted to get an Olaplex treatment. After looking at the official Olaplex website, it was my understanding that all three steps of the Olaplex "method" can be done without dying, so I called Mitchell's to confirm that the Olaplex treatment listed on their website included all three steps of Olaplex, and they said yes, and when I booked the appointment (on the same phone call) I was told the service would be $30.I get to my appointment, and my stylist is 20 minutes late. She doesn't apologize, she just says "the computer didn't tell me you were here but I just finished my last appointment anyways." While shampooing my hair, she calls me by the wrong name and I corrected her. She applies one product (referred to as "the stuff" which I later learned was Olaplex step 2), and leaves it on for ten minutes, the absolute MINIMUM recommended on the official Olaplex site, (it says 10-20 minutes minimum), needless to say it did NOTHING to my hair. She rinses my hair and says let's get you over to the chair, at which point I say "aren't there supposed to be three steps to this service? That's what I was told when she made the appointment." And she says "I don't think so because I couldn't find step No. 3 back there, I think they just give it to you to take home." Like ok ? You don't even know for sure what the service is supposed to be ?She then proceeds to BRUSH my wet curly hair, and when I asked her to use a comb she did for five seconds and said "it just would take too long to get the tangles out and your hair tangles easily." and continued to brush it. I assumed that if she would be blow drying my hair because why else would you be brushing curly hair. But no. After calling me a different wrong name she just sat me under some weird fan-like thing for fifteen minutes and my hair looked awful.I go to leave and the front desk tells me the service will be $56 at which point I was just like um what solid no. And they told me I would have to pay extra to take the third step home. I told them what I was told on the phone when booking, and how my stylist called me the wrong name twice during the appointment, so the manager said they could comp the take home treatment, and then they proceeded to ask me if I wanted to leave a tip. I felt super uncomfortable saying no, so basically I ended up paying $36 to leave the salon with my hair looking absolutely awful and feeling the exact same way. Unbelievably poor service, everything they could've done wrong they did; I've been to cheaper salons with way better service unfortunately this was the only salon I could find that offers a stand alone olaplaex treatment. I've found that it's trial and error with getting the cut & color you want, but afterward it was so worth it. I got the best cut in the last 5 years from my stylist Salta. And jozy does my color perfectly. I did hair and make-up there for my wedding and it was ok. They are always professional, on time, and the salon is a luxurious experience.Read Less

I get massages occasionally at Mitchell's and my therapist does a fnatastic job. I will say for a massage though, I don't know if the Hyde Park location is the best. It's always very noisy and there really isn't a "relaxing" area which I really like before a massage. I believe they have more space in Kenwood. Read Less

So I bought my wife a gift certificate for Mother's Day, to get a cut and color. She went last week and asked for her hair to be colored black and add blond highlights. Now she had a $100 gift certificate and had to put $114 towards the final bill. She came home and her hair was brown and blond! The bill reflected that she had paid for black color. Called over to the salon they said come back and they would fix it. Now her hair is black, but 50% of the highlights were covered up in the process of making it black. So disappointing to spend $214 dollars to not get what you want. Read Less

I had such a wonderful Spa experience at Mitchell's in Kenwood! They have a spa relaxation room for before, during and after pampering, with dim lights with a very relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. Each aspect was timed perfectly, so that I did not spend time waiting between my massage, manicure & pedicure. I have to say, the massage was the BEST I have ever received. She listed to my problem areas and focused on a relaxing & soothing massage. Both the nail and pedicure technicians were very personable and did a fantastic job on my nails...they were shaped and painted perfectly, and still look great two weeks later! Lunch from Cheesecake factory was a wonderful bonus, and I give this experience a 5/5 and am happy to recommend a Spa day at Mitchell's to anyone! Read Less

I have just moved back to the area after living on the East Coast. I had been going to the same hair dresser for 9 years and was worried about finding someone I like in Cincinnati. I needn't have worried. Samantha at Mitchell's Salon and Day Spa in Rookwood Commons did a great job!I got a haircut and partial highlights. The whole process took about three hours (I have a lot of hair) and Samantha made sure I was comfortable the whole time. I was really pleased with the color and the cut turned out exactly how I wanted.They have three levels of hair dressers, all with corresponding price increases. I chose the lowest level and still got excellent results. Mitchell's is a bit pricey, even at the lowest level, but as with anything else, you get what you pay for. I only get my hair done once or twice a year, so I don't mind paying more for great service. Read Less

From the time I scheduled my appointment through the time I left the spa my experience was wonderful. Professional and friendly staff greeted me and made me feel special the moment I walked in the door. The salin was clean and very well decirated. I was offered a drink (lemon water) while I waited for my massage. Emma was my massage lady. She was excellent. This was my first massage and she was detailed and explained everything. Kate did an excellent job with my extended stay manicure! She was friendly and patient with my daughter who was my tag along. The prices are more than I would spend on a regular basis but they do give you a very nice atmosphere, so I suppose you pay for the experience. One word to describe my NYE beauty prep at Mitchell's: Terrible. I was stressed the entire time and I cried the car ride home.I'm from San Francisco and was in town for the Holidays to visit family. I booked a blowout and makeup appointment based on the wonderful reviews I read online. When I arrived at the salon, I was looking forward to relaxing before a long evening ahead of me.At check-in, I was asked to sit in the waiting area. The front desk lady did not ask me if I wanted anything to drink or about my time frame. About 5min past my appointment, I was greeted by my hairstylist. She immediately took me to the shampoo station BEFORE consulting me on what look I was going for.The Dry Bar (where I go to in SF) always consult before washing because it affects the products they use on your hair during the wash and after. I would urge the staff to implement this feature because it really does make a difference.At the shampoo station, I noticed a blonde woman getting extensions, Great Length Extensions (CRINGE). I get that this is Ohio, but for a "high-end salon" to offer Great Lengths fusion extensions is beyond me. Great Length fusion bonds place stress and tension on the hair shaft which could cause damage and irritation leading to hair loss (sometimes balding), and damage to the hair follicle. I urge anyone considering extensions to do their research on fusion extensions. BIG NO especially when there are much better alternatives.At my stylist's station, I told her I wanted beach waves that could've easily been obtained with a 1in wand. She never applied heat protectant spray and she used a plastic brush on my fine hair while it was soaking wet putting unnecessary tension on my bleached hair and causing lots of breakage. Education tip: Don't take a brush to soaking wet hair, let it dry a little first and then use a boar bristle brush to enhance shine and preserve the integrity of the hair. I would've brought my Mason Pearson had I known they use plastic brushes. After all the damage being inflicted to my hair, I didn't even get the results I wanted and my blowout lasted a total of two days. I'm used to it lasting a week with dry shampoo spray and minor touchups. Then for the makeup. . . I was directed back to the lobby to wait for my makeup appointment. About 15min after my appointment time, the makeup artist finally comes back to get me. . .OMG!! This is where it goes from bad to REALLY REALLY BAD!She doesn't even ask me what type of skin I have and just starts pulling out foundations. I tell her I have dry skin, as in there's a desert on my face and that I will need a serum and moisturizer applied to my face before we even start. Reluctantly she goes to the back and just applied a crappy moisturizer. Whatever. Then she starts applying foundation, completely skipping the primer part, which I desperately needed because I tend to be ivory/pink. So here's the deal, Mitchell's offers Jane Iredale which is similar to Bare Essentials or minerals or whatever it's called and its absolute rubbish. Pressed powder on a dry face, just sits, and so my foundation sat, all while being told how "ahh-mazing Jane Iredale is and how I should buy it." My mua literally used the entire time I was sitting in her chair to sales pitch me and it was completely uncomfortable. For my eyes, I requested a smoky cat eye. The finished result, smoky but no cat eye. Eyelash application, the cheap kind of eyelashes you buy from a CVS drugstore. This is where I start panicking: I'm running behind because of her tardiness, I'm getting nervous, I'm hating everything she does to my face, I'm getting annoyed with her sales pitch, I'm about to have an anxiety attack and so I conclude my appointment mid face and leave her chair. I LEFT HER CHAIR.I left her chair before we got to blush, and contouring and lips. I have never done that before but it was so bad, so bad. I pay my bill upfront and the salon doesn't offer Credit card gratuities. At this point I'm running late to reservations at Boca, so my bf pulls out a $20 to be split between the two ladies and we run to the car where I spend the ride home in tears.The pros: Near Kenwood mallThey carry Smith & CultThe cons:Poor serviceLack of education all across the boardLack of diverse makeup brandsSales-Pitchy Tardiness Read Less

A little disappointed this go around at Mitchells Hyde Park. Parking was a nightmare but that isn't really their fault. I got there early as I was told to but then waited 20 minutes past my appointment time. No big deal. The salon waiting area was packed but I was able to find a seat to wait. My hair technician was nice but I felt like she was a little rough with my head (partial highlight) which isn't something I ever thought I'd notice. Pulling too tight or pushing my head down to get the foils in when she could have just asked me to put my head down myself. I had told her beforehand that my scalp was sensitive to the toner they used but she was urging me to use it still so I caved and it felt like my head was on fire. She seemed to be pretty meticulous about my haircut until one of her friends, who was scheduled with her after me, popped her head in to say hi... after that I kind of felt like she rushed through putting the layers in and trimming my bangs which although I know are supposed to appear textured just look uneven to me now. I had to ask to use the straightener and hairspray myself when she was done because I had an event to go to afterwards and I felt like it didn't look right. I feel bad posting this because I like most all of the technicians there but I just didn't enjoy this last trip as much as I normally do. Read Less

This is more of a salon and not much of a spa, yet you are charged the prices of a spa. There is no relaxation area (this is very bothersome when you spend over a $100 on a massage and change in the room and then are off and on your way). There are not lockers or showers, just changed in your room and there's a basic stand up shower in the room your having service done. But I don't think anyone uses it. The ambiance is lacking. I've been going to Mitchell's at Rookwood for 15 or more years. I have always gotten good service there. Katie is a wonderful hairstylist. She listens and offers advice as needed. She cuts not only my hair, but my husband's and kids', too. She has been incredibly patient with my finicky children (they are teens/pre-teens).I recently had a facial (first ever) with Lorna, and it was fabulous! I had no idea how relaxing a facial could be. Lorna explained everything and asked more than once if I had any questions (because it was my first). In the past, I have had pedicures, manicures, special event hair styles, and make up done here, and have been very satisfied with all. I agree with some other reviewers that parking can be a hassle-and not just at the holidays. Arrive early. I also agree that the waiting area is nothing special and it can be noisy in some parts of the salon. They always graciously offer beverages. Receptionists and the centralized appointment center staff are friendly, courteous, and helpful. Prices are pretty high, but I know that I am paying for all the "extra" stuff (beverages, central call center, reception, etc.) in addition to the services. My family has been disappointed that Mitchell's no longer allows you to add gratuity to a credit card payment. Can't imagine that any other establishment, like a restaurant, would do the same.
