Let’s be real, you can’t expect a nail salon in a mall to be all that great. However this place exceeded my expectations. Normally the same people work there. I had a young girl probably around 18-20 years old I’d say. She was pretty rough with my hands, but the nails themselves were great and a cheap price for acrylic and gel. They lasted a long time and the glue didn’t pop off like it usually does by other salons. Came in to have a pedicure with my sister in law after some Christmas shopping. The Salon is beautiful and clean but the ladies that did our feet were more concerned with salon drama than giving good service. My sister in law at least recieved a little bit of a massage. I got lotion thrown on my legs and then a hot towel, She didn't even rub the lotion in.. Won't be coming back here. Read Less

Terrible. I'll never spend another dime in this place. I got there at 6:32 and online it says they close at 9. Told the technician (Lisa) this was my first time there and I wanted to get liquid gel set. She said okay and once she got her station set she tried to talk me out of liquid gel to get powder. I told her I know what I like and I want a liquid gel set. She said okay and the entire time she was doing my nails she was yanking my hand down. She rushed when drying the gel on my nails and made me hit my hand under the drying light when she switched it to the other hand. My nails look bubbly and to top it all off she had the nerve to hand me her card and say "come again and next time maybe make an appointment". I'll be damned if I ever go back. This was without a doubt the best French manicure I have ever had. I questioned why the nail tech was not using the small brush for the white but she said trust me. She explained that The thin brush is a short cut to rush. She artfully used regular brush then expertly removed the white to leave the perfect width crescent on each finger. I've been going to this salon for years and I am never disappointed. I have tried many salons in the area, and none compare. The staff is well-trained and provided the best results around. Rarely do my nails look perfect when leaving a salon, but they always look perfect when I finish at Avalon. The atmosphere is relaxing - no TVs, so I get a break from the world when I go here. Also, the staff is always kind and professional - it's the only salon where I don't feel like I'm being judged or talked about. Finally, and most importantly, the salon is kept exceptionally clean, so I never feel worried about bacteria. I'll be coming back for years to come. Read Less

I came in to get an artificial nail because my natural nails are very long and one of them broke. I was seen immediately and I asked that she make them as natural as possible. This is where my technician should have been honest about what was realistic for her skill level and how willing she was to put in the effort to make that happen. Throughout the whole thing I kept begging her to make the nail thinner and at least try to mimic the shape of my other nails and after each request she became increasingly angry which she expressed with her attitude and her handling of my hands. She became rough with her tools and at one point was basically shaking me around. I paid and basically ran out of the salon. I couldn't have gotten out of there faster. Worst nail salon experience of my entire life.I am now settled back into my hotel and have some time to look over the extension and I am extremely unsatisfied. I have baby hands and I should have known this was going to be a disaster when she used nail extension that was too large for my nail width wise and didn't trim it to size but I usually don't have to coach my nail techs through appointments in NYC. It's impossible to not notice how fake the nail looks spilling over the sides of my nail bed and on top of that there is a gap between the nail and the cuticle. RIDICULOUS Read Less

I see that adults are constantly saying how great this place is, and yes I am technically still a child but I don't expect to be treated like one when I'm a paying costumer- especially when I'm paying such an expensive price for a fill in and nail polish. The employees are constantly being rude to me and my (older) sister, barely giving us the time of day or the patience they give other "adult" costumers. Went here once, and paid a decent price for a great pink and white fill. My mistake was going back. The 2nd time I go, and I decided I'd like to kill some time and add on a 20 min massage (which was in the menu) to my fill. When the nail tech assigned to me gave the receptionist a quizzical look (as if to say, "what do you mean, a massage?") I should have known this was not going to go great. The receptionist pulled out the menu and showed her. She said nothing, and proceeded to do my fill first. I felt that the fill was going well, but it was taking quite a long time - over an hour. 45 min is acceptable, but an hour is pushing it. I know I said I wanted to kill some time, but that is why I added a massage - I expected to budget my own time. As the fill was approaching an hour and 10 min, I had already gone over the time that I budgeted for this salon trip. I had even asked the receptionist how long the fill would take as I was making my choice to add the massage, and he said 45 min. The fill took longer than the fill and the massage combined should have, so I told the tech that I would have to skip the massage today. When she rang me up, she told me $45. "$45!!" I said. Even the nearby tech gave her a strange look. "Yes, it was $30 for the gel nail, and then $15 to add the pink and white gel on top," she said. Let's be real. The nearby nail tech, you, and I all know this is BS. Shameless BS. I didn't even argue because I knew instantly that I would never return to a place that was this casual about ripping people off. If you've been getting the same darn thing done to your nails for years and years like I have, you would feel taken advantage of. I am very concerned that the first time I came, I paid the regular price for a fill, but the next time I come the price is different? By almost double?! This nail tech spoke fine English, there was no miscommunication. I was swindled here. I will not be going back. I have never written a Yelp review before, but I felt so taken advantage of and disrespected that I needed to. I really want to give two stars for service, but am adding a third star because they were the only place who could get me in last minute this weekend!Basically, the woman giving me a gel manicure was obsessed with my cuticles (I'd had my nails done less than three weeks ago so it's not like my cuticles are wild) and overpicked them so much that all the following lotions etc she put on stung, and a few fingers still hurt today. The prices are much too high for what you get here. While the salon looks nice at first, at a closer look... It's very dirty! I had to ask them to wipe off the nail clippings from the table before getting my manicure. My manicurist did not pay attention to detail, and the massages I received were weak. During my manicure, the massage was barely long enough to rub in the lotion. There are rough edges on my nails, and she didn't clean up the random paint spots on my fingers. I came here because they had a strong rating on yelp. That was not my experience here. I've had better mani/pedis for nearly half the price. No thanks!!! Read Less

I really don't like this place. I went to get my toes done with my friend. I had to wait a while as my friend was running late and so i had time to see some people come and go. Sanitation was my first concern. I didn't notice them cleaning out the soaking tubs at the ends of the chairs well. Also I didn't see them use any sterilized products they use on your feet.  Not all places do but I feel hygiene is important. So strike one (and two)!Secondly I felt the technicians were so rude. Mine was complaining to her friend  that my nails were too short and was very condescending. It was really annoying. Two days in advance, I scheduled 3 pedicures (2 daughters and me) for a Saturday afternoon. We arrived on time and had to wait 25 minutes to get seated. Two of the three nail technicians continually looked over their shoulders at the clock the whole time they were doing our pedicures and all three people rushed through the pedicure process so two of the three pedicures were not very well done and the third one was average. Avalon has one the lowest prices in town on pedicures and they appear to be about quantity not quality. We did get what we paid for-$28 each for poor quality pedicures in a hurried environment. I have had much better pedicures for not much more money and will not come back to Avalon again. Read Less

I've been to Avalon four times so far for pedicures only and they've been good, but not great. I've had a different person each time and they all did things a little differently. Some don't use the toe separators properly and I had one toenail's polish messed up before I even got out of the chair. Now I ask for them to put them on between each toe and make sure they're actually separating my toes. The foot and leg massages with the pedicures are really basic; I've had much better ones at other places. Overall the polish lasts well and they have a good selection of colors. This is the second time I have visited this nail salon for a manicure. I went yesterday afternoon and had a french manicure and brow waxing done. The brow waxing was fine, but the manicure was not. The polish started chipping by 8pm last night. The manicure was done at 3pm, so if that let's you know how long it lasted. This morning, the polish has started to completely peel off. I will NEVER have another manicure done there again. I'm just trying to figure out if I should go back and have it redone. I did pay $20 for it! Read Less
