TERRIBLE. I went to get my nails done and when i sat down, i told the lady i wanted acrylic over ten times before she got the picture. The man who did my nails, rushed and did not do a good job. Go to Forever nails! I will never spend my money here again. Just because it looks fancy, does not mean good service. First let me say that my regular pedicure and eyebrow wax came out perfectly well.  The service end, though, leaves much to be desired.  I had read the reviews first, so I had very low expectations.  The place looks like a typical bustling mid-sized mall nail salon, bright and modern. It really needs a manager (or owner?) who has a clue about how to run a salon, i.e. train the staff to show a touch of grace, charm and professionalism, and to follow proper, set procedures.  My sense was that each girl was just winging it, interacting with the customers and performing the treatments however she wanted. The young tech I got was very frumpy, shuffling and tired - she looked annoyed to have another customer toward the end of a busy day.  Given the reviews I wasn't surprised, and I actually smiled more than normal and was extra nice.  (There was a lot of griping background chatter in Chinese among several of the girls in the corner I was located). The pedicure went fine, but things went downhill for my eyebrow wax. She initially motioned me to a regular side chair -- I was supposed to just sit with my head tilted back.  When I hesitated, she offered the waxing room with a shrug -- I said, yes that would be better.  But the treatment table in that room didn't have the usual paper covering, just some rumpled old towels laying haphazardly on it, which she didn't go over to change or even straighten up.  I'm not a germophobe & didn't refuse, but I'm pretty sure the current health codes call for something more!  In all my decades going to salons in a hundred cities and dozens of countries, this place is probably the sloppiest in terms of procedures that I've been. Given that I had read the bad reviews first, you're probably wondering why I came here rather than another place.  The answer is that Syracuse doesn't have great choices.  I'm a city girl and prefer to go to a place I can either walk to or take public transportation.  One of the top rated places about a mile away was already closed the afternoon I wanted to go, another place much closer didn't have any availability (they were closing in an hour). Both of those places might have been close enough for me to walk to, but they're in dingy neighborhoods and some of the blocks are really desolate for walking. So the mall was my next best choice, because I'm generally going to a nail salon for a break from work and errands, and I'm always a walk-in.  I don't mind impersonal salons because I'm looking to decompress and just do a little reading or shopping online, definitely not to have a chat with the tech. The Destiny mall is a sort of "everything but the kitchen sink" type of amalgam mall, with a mix of mid-market, down market and outlet wings, connecting bridges chock full of kiosks plus all manner of food and entertainment choices.  (I guess it is an all-purpose destination during Syracuse's long winters).   I'm an occasional visitor to Syracuse. This was my first time coming here and I will never go back again came in for a manicure and a pedicure the girl that did them was extremely rude she rushed through all of it she asked me "Why did you come here?" Worst experience ever. I went for waxing on 3/24 at 7 pm. I had a lady that I mistakenly didn't take her name. Long hair, tatoo airbrows, wears glasses, no smile ever, so rude. She would leave areas of my body not done, and if you ask her to do it, she'll surprisingly say "but i did here already!!!". She spilled wax on my fingers, cleaned barely half of it, and got mad when i asked for tissue. Small and smelly place also, didn't ask me to flip over, so wasn't even comfortable. Out of convenience I have gone here many times.  If you don't know anything about the health of your nails or skin, don't go here.  Metal foot files are TERRIBLE for your skin,  and yet they continue to use them.  You have to ask them not to. The electric sander is TERRIBLE for your natural nails,  it thins them drastically. I have gel polish done, and every time they use the electric sander, even after I request that they don't.  It seems as though they are more concerned with quick service than taking the time to preserve the health of your nails. The polish can be soaked off completely, without damaging your natural nail.  They prefer to soak for a couple minutes, max and aggressively scrape the majority off using a metal cuticle pusher and/or the electric file. I have been getting my nails done for 16 years and never in my entire life have I gotten up out of the pedicure chair because of how rude the manager was. I should have listened to the yelp reviews but I figured that people only write when they have bad experiences so o wanted to give the benefit of the doubt. When the waitress at the Cheesecake Factory told me it wasn't the best but I  didn't listen then either. When we got there and asked how much a gel manicure and pedicure together was were told $51 and a pedicure by itself was $26. When we sat down we were told that because gel was on my friends hands was gel it was $3 more. Every where else in the country (I travel for a living) the only time you're charged for removing gel is if you're not getting gel back on. Whatever, my friend was willing to pay BUT the girls doing our nails couldn't really communicate with us so a guy who I assume is the manager came in and I explained what we were told when we came in and he said that he didn't care that was how they did it. If we liked it they would do it, if not, fine. I was appalled! And I got up and walked out. Last time I checked this is a service and in the service industry you don't talk to your customer like they are doing you a favor. FIRST OF ALL I am not one to typically complain. If I go to a restaurant and I experience bad service I justify it because not everyone is perfect and every establishment is entitled to a bad day. My bad experience here has infuriated me to an extreme that my rather chill demeanor cannot let go of. This has caused me to even get a yelp account and write this huge waste of time complaint.  It was a sunny day in Syracuse, my spirits were high. I worked in the morning and had sometime before I had to go back. I was excited to treat myself to a nice manicure and pamper myself a little. I had acrylics on previously and I wanted to switch to a gel manicure. My friends have all had them and raved about them so I wanted to see what the hype was all about. I entered said BV nails and I was greeted politely. It smelled of acetone and knock off prada bags. I have been there before and they have always been quick and efficient. I was brought to a table where there was a woman who was trying to convince me to keep the acrylics. I did not want to and she proceeded to take them off. She was telling me my nails were short (no shit I have eyes) and I reassured her that my wish was to get a gel manicure. On the first nail...THE FIRST NAIL she used nail clippers and went in too far. She clipped it and it hurt more than it should. I pulled my hand back and she pretended like she had done nothing, however my nail was bleeding. I looked at it and she had not only taken off the tip but she went too far and clipped it so that my real nail CRACKED IN HALF. While in severe pain she took my hand and another tool and began to try and dig the fake nail off!!! THEN she told me to put it in acetone. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?!?!? I have had a paper cut and acetone touched it and I almost cried. By this time I'm heated and angry. No apology. She speaks to her boss in another language and indicates that she broke my real nail and she goes into the back room. He takes off my other nails and tells me that it will heal and that I should just super glue it. He also informs me that I do not have to pay for nail removal. NO SHIT I DON'T HAVE TO PAY!!! Please don't waste your time time or money! Went for pedicures with my sister. There were a few workers that sat in the corner and looked and talked amongst eAchother while staring at everyone. Only go there if I'm desperate. The techs are just bad. My nails are never filed evenly. My gel manicure lasted 3 days. My nail tech reused the nail polish remover she had me soak my nails in on another guest (disgusting!!), everyone was eating at their stations, and I'm positive they never sanitize anything. HORRIBLE NAILS!!!!! If I could give them a minus I would!!!! I came here once before and even though I wasn't WOWED that time, the niceness of the technician won me over. This time, the technician was livid that they divided the ticket between two of them and had me get my eyebrows done by someone else. She was in such a foul mood , she DIDN'T SPEAK TO ME  the whole time!!!!!! She kept bitching about things with the technician next to her. She didn't know how to round a nail, she glued the tip so closed to the tip of my nail that the corners where not even resting on nails, she put so little acrylic that you can bend the tips. She gave me one coat of nail polish so it was so clear it looked stupid. I would have looked better with drugstore glue on nails. I had to go the next day to another place and have them fix the color. they charged me 10. I had to go to work that day so I didn't have time to tell them how horrible she was, so I returned the next Saturday and explained to manager I wanted my 10 for having to fix it. He flat out refused and when I told him that I was going to write a review he said: "Go ahead nobody is going to stop coming, this is the mall" I implore you, with all the nail salons in Syracuse, STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!! Wasn't impressed with this salon. Got a regular mani/pedi. While the Pedi was OKAY, my technician completely botched my manicure-she applied the nail polish very think and a lot of the nail polish was touching my cuticles. Maybe it's just her, but overall it was a bad experience. Read Less

I get my nails done at BV Nails and Spa, when I can't make an appointment at my usual spot.  If you're getting acrylic nails done, make an appointment with Philip, he shapes nails the best out of all the technicians.  Their nail polish selection is mediocre, so you may want to take your own.  Although the place is a bit cramped, it is fairly big, as there is another area hidden in the back of the salon, where they do spa pedicures.  My three stars review is based on the quality and shape of the nails.  For example, Philip did just an OKAY job at shaping squared nails, BUT was able to do stiletto nails very well.    Essentially, this place is my back up salon, but the technicians do better work than techs at other nail salons I have been to.
