I have Given this salon 5 attempt and the last time is the last time. I got my nails done for Valentine's Day at 11am 7 days later the thumb nail began lifting. This isn't the first time it happen. The nails look beautiful however they will barely last you a week and for 60 dollar I don't think it's worth it . There is no customer service so if you are used to a salon where you get greeted it's not going to happen here they will look at you carry on with their conversation then be like "appointment?" They never listen I asked for nude I get nude with glitter I ask for pink they give me purple they never have any of the colors you see on Instagram. Second time coming to Barry's beauty in Rosedale I will never support this business at all. You try your best to support black owned business but the people they have working for them is terrible. I went in as a walkin just to get a pedicure the lady said she have an appt the appt person was walking out as I walked in sat there for 20 mins while the lady was doing nothing I could of been in and out. This review is long over due but I have some time today! I was a fan of Barry Beauty's Bar from Instagram fell in love with the work on their business page so I gave them a try. I probably visited the salon about 4 times total, Bev usually did my nails, and on my last visit Barry (the owner) did my nails. First I will say when you walk in nobody welcomes you! They stare at you sort of confused why you're there especially if you're not a regular. I sat with Barry for my full set his attitude was so unpleasant and the salon was a little busy but he bluntly rushed me to make up my mind when choosing a color, picking a nail shape, & deciding my design. I accidentally messed up my nail putting it under the UV light because I had gel and he lost his damn mind. sucking all kinds of teeth huffing and puffing! All I could think was UHM lets not start because I'm the one who is paying you! Because of his attitude I walked away with one nail completely covered in metallic when I asked for it to be ombre'd he did what ever he wanted at that point. I was so mad and surprised seeing this behavior come from the salon owner. Even though this is the best salon that has ever shaped my nails well I will NEVER return because of the energy in there! they're all rude! and need to work on it.... and I'm pretty sure I'll never be desperately in need of a $63 full set gel tips , with glitter and metallic....catch me never ! These women in this nail salon are disgustingly rude and have no customer service skills. I get to the salon and the worker was sitting on the sofa 1. She did not greet me or ask what service I wanted. I had to approach her then when I asked for a pedicure and a full set after traveling almost an hour she tells me I can do my nails but there's nobody for pedicure. I have never heard that foolery in a nail salon in my life. So I asked how do they run a nail salon in that manner. She proceeded to turn her head and ignore me. So I asked another employee the same and she did the same. I told them that Have have no customer service and their attitude & the blonde lady just left her head turned and continued to laugh. Urgh! I was so excited when my friend told me there was a Black owned nail salon in Queens. Though 25 minutes from my house, I hurried over right after she recommended it. All I wanted was a gel manicure 1) I asked for round nails, she filed my nails down to stubs, and they're square (and some random shapes). While I looked down and saw and was visibly upset, she did inquire about what was wrong. But at that point what can you do so I left it alone.2) They used a nail polish that kept bubbling under the UV light. The technician already painted super slow, and a bit sloppy. She first tried to send me under the UV with half a nail painted.  So this made it a longggg process.3) The way she filed my nails they're completed frayed and will chip in a few days I'm sure because of this.4) This ugly manicure took almost 1 hour 45 minutes. How? Why? Beats me.5) The smell of nail products is super strong in there. Salons that don't have proper ventilation can make people dizzy, esp. if you're prego. I normally leave salons right away with this strong smell but I assumed I'd be in and out in 30 minutes since there's no line.I genuinely hope this salon improves, I was eager to super my people but will be looking for another black owned salon until then.Update: It's now a few hours after my manicure and the gel cracked! I just want to make a disclaimer that I am not writing this review to slander Barry's Beauty Bar in any shape or form but the truth needs to be told. I went there yesterday with my mom because I booked an appointment to get my nails done for prom. The appointment was at 11 AM so the atmosphere was calm and it was not crowded. I waited for the nailtech to get prepared which wasn't a long wait. I told her how I wanted my nails and she started right away. At first, it didn't seem painful but I did have slight stinging with some filing and what not. Then, I noticed she started to push up my cuticles. Now, I'm not professional with nails in anyway but I do know that pushing, clipping or removing your cuticles isn't the best thing to do. It didn't hurt but then she started to push too far back to a point where my skin was getting pushed also. I flinched a bit and all she said was "hush" (typical Jamaican response when they hurt you; I'm Jamaican American so I know). I thought the pain was over until she look out the e-file. It was too high at first and she realized my "ows" and flinching so she turned it down. I still felt it grazing and burning my skin a bit. Fast forwarding, she starts to put on the acrylics and she STILL pushes back my cuticles/skin some more. Let's not forget the edges of my nails too. PAIN. At this point, she sees the grimace on my face and explains that she's doing that because "my cuticles are really small and soft so she has to move them out of the way". If they are so small, why are they a problem? After that horror was done, I went to wash my hands. Right as the soap and water touches my hands, I felt burning and painful sensation around my fingers. I was on the verge of crying. I stayed in the bathroom for a while to run cold water on it to ease the pain. My mom came back from outside and asked me what's wrong. I told her about and the nail tech realized and asked me what's wrong. Then she told my mom the same excuse like she told me, causing my mom to be lenient and not seeing a big deal out of it. Now it was time to polish my nails. After all the pain and trauma my nails went through, the nail polish made around my nails sting very badly. I exclaimed with "ouch!" and she took out a stick to wipe the excess polish (which still made it hurt). Overall, the nail job was pretty but it was very painful. She saw that I was in pain but she didn't ease up. She still filed my nails very roughly and damaged my cuticle along with my nail fold. I know they would heal with time but I hate when around my nails/nails are cut up or damaged. Getting acrylics should not hurt. Period. Read Less

Today I went to Barry's to fix three broken nails after lifting my suit case the wrong way . I never went to them before but I loved the work I seen on IG ( Instagram) so I was very eager to try them .I walked into the Rosedale shop it seemed ok at first but then I learned the hard way this wasn't a place I would spend my money again .1. Very rude and nasty workers  (The nail tech and her coworker made rude remarks about me wanted my nails a certain way when it came to shaping my nails . when I showed her a picture  I wanted she was very impatient and I was told to look myself when she so called didn't know what I was talking about .2. Soooo this is the review I started to write as I was sitting in the shop waiting....I am starting this review as I sit and wait for service. I am guessing it is lunch time as two of the three technicians are eating in the back. There are 4 of us waiting and at this point I've been waiting 25 minutes...Okay so I waited a total of 35 minutes. I am a stickler for great customer service. Now while I cannot say that the customer service was great, they do amazing nails. These are the most perfect tips I've had in a while. They really take their time and pay attention to every single detail. My nails are super smooth and the polish job is really neat. I must also add that my nail shape is perfect as well. I've been to Barry's several times due to the fact it's right next door to my job and I wanted to support my own ppl. Well let me tell u, all the nail techs online weren't the ones doing nails. It was always a new inexperienced tech. Specifically the last time I went I wanted to get rose gold chrome nails. Smh the lady did a horrible job. I left there because I had to pick my daughter up but best believe I came back the next day after work. I went upstairs and POLITELY ask the lady to do my nails over. She said "wah ya want? My worse nail salon experience ever! The girl that did my polish change on my toes paints like a 5yr old. I had to keep asking her to redo it. They do not use standard industry practices for doing nails such as soaking gel polish off with acetone. Instead they use the drill which is painful and to top it off I saw 2 baby roaches near my feet while I was getting the polish taken off my nails. I left immediately. This is a long over due review. I've gotten my nails done here a couple of times and each time has tested my patience. At the end of the day, I go back to them because they have different color acrylics and they aren't afraid of trying new designs that you show them from your phone. But now that I have done some extensive research on Instagram, I found other nail techs in the area with way better attitudes & customer service. I really just want to emphasize on how much they need to work on their customer service!!!! I walked into the salon with my friend today & requested two gel manicures. They don't say welcome you when you come in ... Even if you come often. After an hour of waiting, DEB calls me over. I sit in her chair and explain to her exactly what I want with my nails. A simple French manicure with colors on the tips. She then tells me to get up and go to someone else's chair. The other woman tells me DEB is going to do my nails and then all of a sudden three people going back and fourth about who's going to do my nails! In the mean time, they're all giving me dirty looks and they just seem annoyed that they have to do a French manicure. Sigh... I wanted to give this nail salon a chance... and I did, in fact, I gave them 2 and both times, I was disturbed by the work ethic here...So let's start with the nail tech, Barry... his skill on nails is amazing, he is a perfectionist and as much as I use my hands, not one nail had chipped polish or looked lack luster... but he is ALWAYS LATE and had the gall to insist on an appointment system... even has a website to book said appointments, so why be late every time... I book well in advance  (at least a week) and I'm always on time and my time is precious.... The first time I booked an appt here, I'm on my way to head over there and about 30 mins before my appt time, I get a call from someone in the salon, saying Barry is running late... how late? No one knows... just that they will call me when he gets there....2 HOURS LATER, I get a call back saying he is there and I can come in, so I do and.... he is there, just sitting matter of factly, no apology, no nothing, so I ask him how he is doing, he responds dryly and we begin... after talking to my friend who also came to see Barry after me, he loosens up and he does a great job, and I'm in love! Fast forward to today, I made an appointment last week for this day and I come in for a fill in and a pedicure.... Barry is running late AGAIN!!! But this time, no one called to tell me!! So I get my pedicure started and now the shenanigans begin... btw, this was not the original girl requested when booking, this was Atkima or something like that..... the left over nail girl.... First, no removal of the polish, just put your feet in... I give the look of irritation and she asks me if I'm okay and I tell her, no, the water is cold, she warms it up to my liking and then takes my foot out and immediately cuts my nail without asking me what I want first, so I had to stop her... I don't like my nails cut... but she already cut my nail, but it's halfway off... so I tell her I do not want my nails cut, only filed, she then put my foot back in the water... mind you I still haven't had my polish removed..... why... AND.... I had to ask her to please cut the remaining piece of nail off, she says she will... later......  and proceeds to take my other foot and butcher away at it with cheap tools you get at your local beauty supply.. after being a little too heavy handed with these cheap tools, I gently take my foot out of her grasp and tell her that she is hurting me and I would like for her to stop...... now what happens next, let's me know that I will NOT BE  RETURNING.... EVER....This woman then goes behind another pedicure chair and brings out a DRY WALL SANDER!!!! FOR MY FEET! You cant be serious!!! I have great feet, you should be thanking the foot God's that I came in today and gave you a reprieve! So I ask her, "what is that?" and she just simply points to my foot like this is routine here, so I tell her, she WILL NOT BE USING THAT  ON MY FOOT... She says so arrogantly, "Oh, you don't have to use it", and I tell her, no, you won't be using that on my foot... now after all this, I look at my toes and every nail looks jacked... she begins polishing when I noticed this jacked file job I got and I ask her to please file them straighter and she FILES THEM WITH THE POLISH ON!!! Does not take the polish off, even AFTER SHE FILED AND GOT FILE DUST ON MY NAILS! So I ask her if she going to re-do the polish, she says, she was but, I didn't give her a chance to, but.... why the fu** would you do that in the first place!! So she does the sloppiness over and mumbles to go dry my nails... I sit at the raggedy dryer MEANT FOR NAILS, NOT TO BE STEPPED ON REPEATEDLY and I look at the time.... 30 mins passed and no Barry... its now 20 mins into the time I booked for him and 6 other people seem to be waiting for him as well....After sitting there frustrated and ashen... because I got no lotion after my pedicure... one of the nail techs yells "excuse me" very  loudly and I turn around and she is in fact, talking to me and asks if someone else can do my nails, I shake my head no. I sit there and let my polish dry for another 5 minutes, get up ask the same nail tech, when is Barry to be expected, she says 2:45pm, I look at the clock again, it's 2:40pm, so I make the wise decision to leave... she asks me if  I want to reschedule some other time, I tell her no thank you, pay my bill of $22 DOLLARS + $2 TAX  AND GIVE THAT FUNKY, GREASY left over nail girl from the back, $5 dollars tip and leave... and go back to my old spot and get a spa pedicure to calm my nerves...  Barry's Beauty Bar lost me & 2 other friends who won't be making any further appts.. Really wanted to love this place. 2 stars because I loved the way Shawnese did my nails but on the flip side, only 2 stars because of the lack of professionalism. Twice my nail tech was late to my appointment that was booked a week in advance. Today...drove over an hour from Brooklyn, from work. for my 6:30 appointment that was confirmed via email. Get here..nail tech not in today. No phone call (which is provided when you book an appointment) and no email to let me know she wouldn't be here. So here I am now an hour later, tired, frustrated and still waiting on a different tech to do my nails. My nails look horrible so I have no choice. I'm only giving 2 stars because the staff is entertaining, but Over all I had a bad experience. I should have listened to the reviews. My fellow yelpers were right sad to say. This is a very honest review. I've been following them on Instagram for over a year. The last time I was in NYC I didn't have time to check them out. So this afternoon my flight landed in queens from Houston & I decided I was going to check them out. I called before I arrived to ask if they were taking walk-ins & I was told they were. I arrived at 6pm and did not get out of there until 9 o'clock. I asked how much would it be to soak off & for a full set? Beverly told me it will be $30. I sat down soak my nails off and filed off all of the acrylic "by myself" no one helped. I'm thinking to myself what am I paying you five dollars to soak off and you're not even going to help me take the acrylic off... But whatever! It took me about 15/20 mins to soak. Then Shawnese told me to sit in her chair she would do my nails. I'm very picky when it comes to my nails and this lady is an amateur. I told her from the beginning I did not fly all the way from Houston to get my nails done and they come out wrong. She assured me everything would be fine she knew what she was doing. Well that was a lie!! She messed my nails up so bad I was getting pissed off and very unsatisfied with her work. I even asked her how long have she been doing nails? she replied one year. Beverly sitting next to Shawnese, see my facial expression's and heard me complaining. So when she was done with her client... She decided to take over my nails. Thank God she did, because I was honestly debating on if I should even pay them or not. Beverly is very good! I should've went to her from the beginning. She tried her best to fix my nails, but I still left there with two crooked nails. I ended up paying $50 for a plain short full set, no designs or anything. Despite some of the questionable reviews my bestie and I decided to give this place a try and I must say.... we were NOT disappointed! Service was great, Symphony did my pedi and she was awesome! Great conversation, respects privacy and understood the balance between chatter and relaxation. Great massage, which I absolutely needed, I work on my feet and she made me feel brand new. She even recommended the Polish I chose! It's her first week on the job ladies so take her name and get in line. Whenever I come back to NY I will be sure to pay her a visit!***4 stars bc of the bodyguards at the door downstairs. Absolutely a waste of time and money. Got regular acrylic nails by the owner Barry himself. I wasn't impressed ,nails chipped two days later,polish got dirty,couldn't even get a fill in because the nails were coming off themselves . It only had been two weeks and it looks like I had the nails on for months. I was in need of a fill in I decided to go and there was a lady just lounging on the chair I told them what I wanted she gets up and says go sit to that station I told her what I wanted and she said she was able to do what I requested upon sitting in the chair I noticed she really didn't have a clue on what she was doing after her trying to make it work I had to soak off my nails and get a new set . I was told someone else was going to do my nails another girl who was in there also tried to do what I showed her in a pic she was pleasant but my nails are thick and crazy looking I will never go back there again and not to mention I also received a pedicure I could have done at home and I was there 4 1/2 hours my nail bed is so sore Never again!!!!!!!! I made an appointment here with the owner online as they require. He wasn't there when I arrived, the ladies in the shop didn't even address that. After waiting 15 minutes, they told me "oh, he's running late." I waited until 4:30- no show, no update from anyone. Unfortunate because they ask for your contact when you make an appointment, but no one notifies you if there's a problem. I got my nails done a week ago by a different tech here and it looks 3 weeks old. I've seen his work, very impressive but at this time, not sure it's worth the hassle of going to this location.
