I have been going to Mint for a couple of years now. I see Rachel every time I go. She never fails me and always goes the extra mile to make sure I am happy with my appointment. I naturally have curly hair. No matter how she cuts it, I never have trouble styling it, whichever way I wear it. You can tell she loves what she does because she is always up to date with the latest hairstyles and knows what will good on me. She takes the time to listen to what I want, but she is so amazing, I often let her do her own thing. I am an older man who was visiting his daughter in Rochester during Thanksgiving week. I needed my hair styled and a friend at the Thanksgiving table recommended Mint. I'll never trust his recommendation again. The place was stylish, but noisy. So noisy that I didn't even hear my stylist's name.  The styling and haircut was sub-par. I've gotten better haircuts at Sportsclips for half the price.  Even though I told the stylist what I wanted done-- it was not done.  Overall, a very disappointing experience. When I lived in Rochester, I had my hair done at another salon ( Keith's) near Mint. That salon was quiet, professional an well worth the price- just the opposite of Mint. I had an amazing experience at Mint Salon in Rochester, NY. The staff was great from the start. Since I have wavy/curly hair, it is almost impossible to get my hair exactly the way I like it. This review is about the owner of the salon, Jordan, and not about the other stylists working there as I've only had good experiences with Dominique and Gabby. My daughter went in for a color and cut and was left dissatisfied with both. She felt that she communicated what she wanted clearly to the stylist but got something very different. OK these things happen. Hair can be tricky. We went back to the salon for my daughter to get her hair fixed and basically they said we had to pay for the services again. My daughter left the the salon and on our way out we saw the owner of the salon and told her about the situation. The owner's tone from the very beginning was condescending. She continued to talk about how hair color works and how my daughter shouldn't have these expectations that it would come out exactly how she wanted it right off the bat. Yes, this is true, but my daughter frequently goes to the Deva Curl salon in Culver City so she is very well aware of the process. And who knows her own hair better than her? The conversation was very confrontational and I had asked Jordan to change her tone with us several times. The conversation finally ended with her saying she would give us our money back and I quote "Get off my property! Just get off my property!". WOW. She has no business running a salon and treating customers this way. I had the pleasure of the MINT experience today.  I am a Black female who has been natural for the past 13 years.  I have recently been very frustrated with my hair, because it is always frizzy, it never has a consistent pattern, and it has started to shed a lot. Out of frustration, I did a massive google search, and I lucked up and found this wonderful salon.  After reading the reviews, I was more than happy to drive the 1hr + from Buffalo to have an expert finally help me! The website had me a little nervous- once I saw that most hair cuts were done dry, but no worries... Every consultation is customized to YOU!  Jen Fowler, my wonderful, amazing, nice, super sweet, and caring hair stylist customized my MINT experience and did it with poise and reassurance. I trusted her from the moment that she greeted me, and she definitely did not disappoint! She did my process "in reverse" as she clarified, conditioned, maintained my frizz, drye'ed, then diffused my hair prior to doing any dramatic chop. Once we both saw the AMAZING results from her expert hands and the failsafe product (deva curl- she described every product and its use throughout the appointment), we realized that my hair wasn't damaged at all. It was just yearning for some TLC. I HAVE NEVER had curls so well defined and luscious! I could just tell that she (and everyone else at the salon) really cares about hair health, maintenance, and client satisfaction. Luckily, they have the product for sale in the salon (I HAD to make a purchase)!  I tested the hair this evening with a 2 mile jog. I had a very loose ponytail- and to my surprise, and this has NEVER happened- I had no frizz and once I took the pony out, my curls still looked GORGEOUS!  I highly recommend this gem of a salon!!! I can't honestly say, I will never go to another hair salon again. Everything down to the design of this place is adorable, and progressive, which is basically how I want to feel leaving a salon. The staff is INCREDIBLY friendly, and so educated it's, unbelievable. I have never had a hair cut like the one I had at Mint. Every stop of the process I was asking questions, and getting full, understandable, valid explanation. From the cut down to the product. Every request about how I styled and would like to style my hair was tended to. They really took the time to listen to the pro's and con's on my hair, and tailored my cut and style accordingly. I was so happy to find a salon in Rochester that not only knew how to do my natural black hair but, specialized in curly hair. The staff (right from my initial call inquiring and confirming they could take care of my very thick, natural hair) were extremely friendly and helpful. I was very happy to have Jen cut and manage my hair. She was very gentle and informative. I wasn't to crazy about the Deva Curl products they used and prefer my own go-to product [Cantu] but, overall I had a great experience and look forward to my next appointment! The whole experience was amazing. First, when I called, Jen was so friendly. Secondly, walking into the salon I was greeted immediately (a genuine greeting). Every single person in the salon was nice and carried a conversation with me. This was my first visit to Mint and my first visit to a curly salon. All I can say is: wow! Wonderful customer service and really friendly stylists who truly care about your individual curls. I went in to get my hair colored for the first time ever and the stylist knew what I wanted even without me being able to articulate it. She explained everything she was doing and the whole story behind the Deva Curl system. I left really happy with my new style (and with how she styled my hair) and without breaking the bank. Curly haired ladies, get here now! Oh, it was just lovely. The atmosphere of the salon is adorable, retro, funky, and oddly familiar/comforting. I called yesterday on a whim, got an appointment for today - cut & foil work with Gabby. I spoke with the owner because I had several questions while trying to navigate the website, diagnose what kind of curls I had, and figure out all of the other services. I was gently reminded there are phones and when you pick one up and use it, there is likely a friendly voice on the other end eager to answer questions. I explained my hair, what I was looking for, and that I just needed some added funk to my already fun hair. I was welcomed with friendly faces and immediately felt at ease with all the other curly haired comrades entering and exiting - I laughed with the stylist that curly hair salon stories are abundant and hair shock is something I am all too familiar with. She listened to my styling routine, what I was looking for regarding color, and wait...wait....that I didn't want much off of my length! I just did my final test - I informed her it is important that I can still whip my hair up in a sloppy bun at the end of the day - sure enough, not one little ringlet to be found outside of my messy knot. She listened. Bottom line. It was fascinating to watch Gabby cut my hair - curl by curl. Patient. It was also fun to watch all the curly haired babes around me get devafied! Cut was perfect. No surprises. I had my ends lightened - she took so much time neatly painting the finest little strands of hair. Unlike other salons, where the stylist whips your color on, throws you under the dryer, runs to cut someone else's hair, has their assistant rinse you, etc. - at Mint you're it. It's nice to know the very hands that can ruin your day, week, month, year with a few wrong snips are accessible and eager to check in on you and ensure you're satisfied with the outcome. The pricing was beyond reasonable - I was there about two hours but it went by so quickly! As I watched, listened, and learned a little bit from my stylist and the other extremely talented, funky, and fun gals that work there, it occurred to me this is exactly the place that turns angsty 13 year old girls that HATE their hair into curly haired beauties that rock their bouncing locks with pride. Curly hair or not, this salon is just what I've been looking for. The hairdressers aren't afraid that they might have "cut off just a little too much..." You are a part of the entire process. My hair is one of my favorite things about myself - I stopped trying to force pin straight Barbie locks in my late teens, early twenties and haven't looked back - those god awful hair fryers that leave your hair limp, lifeless, and never quite as straight as you'd like it to be. Mint will restore your love for your curls & leave you wanting more! I have already booked another appointment and will HIGHLY recommend this salon - curls or not, these gals know what they're doing. THE NEW SPACE IS GORGEOUS!Mint has such wonderful energy, and I really like all the people there (Jordan is the best!).  I'm so happy that their business is thriving, but it really shouldn't be any surprise; they really care that their clients are happy and leave feeling amazing.  And just so you know, Mint isn't just for curly hair clients (although they do wonders for my boyfriend's enviable curly locks)!  My hair is mostly swavy (straight + wavy), and I've never been more satisfied with a haircut.I follow them on IG (@getminty) and it looks like they've acquired a super talented nail artist, so that'll be next on my bucketlist.Get Minty!
