I've been to Luxy Lady for mani/pedis at least a half a dozen times or more so I think I have a solid idea of the place Pros - Nice decor - iPads are available for use- Nice and pleasant staff (although the front desk girls are much nicer than the actual nail technicians),- complimentary champagne/mimosas, - close to the subway wayoverall pleasant experience ConsPrice - the price is way high. Now I could justify high price if I thought the process/execution or quality of the tools used was different than at a cheap nail salon but I really don't see a difference. Sure they have some high end nail polish but they also carry the same polish you'd get at a $10 nail shop and for their basic manicure they dont provide any additional services that you would get anywhere else. Therefore I justify the price by the fact that I receive complimentary drinks. After about 2 drinks you break even. Nails - while my nails have generally turned out fine, on most occasions they will chip either at the same rate or a little faster than when I go to the a cheap nail salon. However on my last visit I received a gel manicure in a pretty Robin blue color. After a week my nails were disclosed..like blue brown sewer water color. I don't smoke, rarely cook and don't handle anything that would discolor my nails. To the best of my knowledge this has never happened to me before so I don't know the cause. Maybe their polish was old  or maybe it was some external factor. I just haven't done anything different in the past two weeks than I normally do so it's a bit strange.  Given the details listed above and even with the blue brown sewer color nails I still would have given this business a 4. Because sometimes you need a break from the assembly line type nails salons and you want a refined experience. However, I've reviewed some of the responses from the manager (Nichole G) on here and I thought one of her post was particularly classless. I'm of the mindset that as a business owner/manager posting on a public forum you should take the high road. You can politely disagree with the reviewers and highlight the positives of your business. However when you stoop to name calling and immature remarks you in the end look far worse.  Stay classy Luxy Read Less

LOVE IT! I'm new to the neighborhood and have been searching for a one stop shop for all my beauty needs. First, I tried the mani/pedi and the service. Soledad was amazing so I decided to try hair and makeup at the salon. Julz did my hair and makeup and I left feeling like a princess. She was very knowledgeable and knew/did EXACTLY what I was going for in terms of look. Beauty isn't cheap (especially in neighborhoods like LIC) so those who expect to pay here what they pay in some regular salon are a bit out of their element. My next step is trying a glaze on my virgin hair (I haven't colored my hair in about 8 years after some horrific experiences). So lets see how that goes. :) Read Less

I think the Luxy is for luxurious which this place is for sure.  The owner Nichole greeted me and made me feel at home... champs and all. My hands and feet look and feel great. Beware of shady service and mediocre quality. I chose this spa for a group mani/pedi the day before my wedding because they said they had no problems doing groups of people, and also offered my group complimentary drinks & snacks during the service. The whole thing was booked months in advance and confirmed (twice!) the week of. This is what happened next:+ 2 hours before the day of service they said they wouldn't be able to fulfill the reservation. + After some convincing, they promised to make the reservation work. + At the end of the appointment when settling the bill, they snuck in a $50 fee for the drinks/food that they initially offered for free. + No apologies and lots of hostility throughout service, especially when we pushed back on the fee (which we ultimately paid). There are better salons in the area-- you'll get a longer lasting mani/pedi (plus shoulder massage, foot and hand massages which were not included here) for $20 cheaper.____UPDATE 7/24Editing to say that the manager's response affirms poor review. Beautiful space, clean as a new museum, wonderful service...offer you champagne, coffee, tea and mini iPads and charging stations at your finger tips. In Manhattan you'd be paying a sizable premium but a pedi is... Wait for it.... Only $30! If you like crazy weird nontraditional colors you may be disappointed by the selection as it's on the smaller side but if you are a no-nonsense lady and prefer the classics you are covered as the selection is beautiful. I was running a little late and I called ahead. Everyone was super sweet and accommodating. They weren't the least bit upset that I was late.  In fact I was pleasantly greeted with a glass of water and my coat was hung up for me.  Charles did my updo and he was absolutely amazing!!  He channeled exactly what I was wanted by asking just a few questions. Service and ambiance of a luxury salon. Staff like family. Affordable price point. Shayla's manicures last for 2 weeks and they don't chip. Pedicures last until you take it off. Charles did my hair and make up for my engagement shoot and wedding. Was my 'therapist' for my family drama on my wedding day. His experience is with red carpet events and that's exactly what I looked like on my special day. I called to see if they had any availability for 2 - one regular manicure and one regular pedicure. I was put on hold twice and talked to 2 different women. Both of which sounded flustered and said they were booked solid for the day and couldn't accommodate us.I decided to show up alone any way to see if maybe they could squeeze one person in instead of two. I was shocked to see that the place was completely empty. I asked if they had time for one regular manicure and the lady said yes and got to work. I chose my color and it was a fine, normal manicure. I was the only one in the entire nail side of the salon. All the rest of the fingernail stations and pedicure stations were completely empty. It was a big strange being alone in a nail salon because I'm used to having lots of people inside. Maybe it was a sign.Overall my experience was fine. All the staff in the salon was speaking Spanish to each other during my visit. The staff were also just hanging out since there were no other clients inside. That seemed a bit unprofessional. Still in shock that they claimed they were booked solid for the day yet they were just goofing around. How do they make money then?$20 for a regular manicure which isn't too bad. A lovely place to get a pedicure! The decor is feminine and stylish and the staff is so friendly and accommodating. I was offered a drink within 1 minute of entering the salon and I chose champagne for a true pampering experience. There are also iPads for you you use while you get your pedi.This salon uses very sanitary techniques for nail care like wearing gloves while doing services and also tearing open a new pouch of tools for each service.I will come back! I have been searching for a good nail salon since we moved to LIC in January.  Up until yesterday, I had been going to my tried and true salon in Chelsea where I had been going for years, as I've found most of the salons in LIC to be underwhelming.   After yesterday's experience, I am happy to say my search has ended!  From the classy, modern, and chic decor to the champagne and top-notch service, Nichole has really thought of everything in creating this gem of a salon.  My girlfriend and I had such a lovely experience.  I tried one their Luxy Lady brand vegan polishes, which is holding up great so far (regular manicures typically chip in less than 24 hours for me....always).  They also have some amazing colors by designer brands such as Tom Ford and D&G, which I can't wait to try out this Fall. Last, but not least, I was expecting their prices to be high given the luxurious atmosphere and experience, but I was surprised by how fair they are.  You certainly get what you pay for and then some.  I can't wait to go back!
