Walking in the door, one immediately feels welcomed. The service staff is attentive and lovely and the salon itself it luxurious and elegant. One feels instantly more posh just being there! Of course all of this would just be set dressing if my stylist, Gretchen, wasn't absolutely brilliant. I wanted to have a girl's spa here with 8 guests. Both myself and another girl tried to call and get in touch with the group events coordinator for a week. We both called every day - twice a day - for a week only to be put on hold for 20 minutes each time and then disconnected. I called today to voice my concern/ complain and to remedy the situation they put me on hold 3 different times with every person who answered the phone taking my name, phone number and why Im calling down.  Finally was told I would speak to the manager to get this figured out to only have that line ring and then go to voicemail. Treated my mom and daughter to a Spa Day and what a wonderful experience. Everyone was super sweet and the service was impeccable. I haven't been that relaxed in a long time. Had an appointment for single process color with an apprentice, Denise. She is working on her coloring skills under the tutelage of an educator.  From the moment I arrived to when I departed, I was treated as nothing less than a valued customer - even though my services were free in exchange for being a hair model. Offered coffee and biscuits, cucumber water.  Escorted to the teaching area.  Denise has a quiet confidence about her and is clearly passionate about hair. She took instructions well from the instructor and was warm and professional.  My hair came out great.  Denise even walked outside with me in order to see her work in the natural sunlight.  It was a very civilized, upscale experience.NOTE:  The teaching area is at the Park Ave location but Denise regularly works out of the 5th Ave salon. The room was very relaxing minus the thin walls where I briefly heard some people talking.The locker room and showers were clean but they could do a better job stocking it with better amenities like disposable combs (they had reusuable brushes) and q-tips.The lounge room where you wait to meet your masseuse was spacious and a nice place to relax with dim lights, and the usual drinks, fruit and magazines. I had gone to the 5th ave location a few times, everyone there seems so plastic, so I decided to go to The Umoon Square location, the minute I entered, I was greeted by a very nice lady, who took me down stairs for my Mani/Pedi, she was so nice, then I was introduced to Erica, she offered me something to drink, coffee, tea or water. I went to see Gretchen on the recommend of a friend. I was a little nervous because I was going in for a big change in terms of style. Gretchen was so game to help me go from long princess hair to a short, femme shag. We had so much fun going through this big change for me and.... i looked soooooo damn good. I visited this location Mid- March for a signature Red Door massage. I was immediately welcomed by friendly staff and was escorted downstairs to a clean locker room where I changed then moved to the tranquility / relaxation area. It was a comfortable space that offered fruit infused water or other beverages.  I waited for my massage therapist less than 5 minutes then off to relax...Gene was my therapist. He listened to my needs and applied just enough pressure to relieve the tightness in my shoulders and back from carrying a heavy bag everyday and melted the tension.  As we got closer to the end, I didn't want it to stop. Not giving one star because the front desk was so friendly. I've had great haircut and decent brow waxes before, came for a manicure today and was utterly disappointed.My package was supposed to have an essential oil component, didn't happen. The warm cream massage was nothing more than a layer of lotion quickly wiped away. The actual polish application was also hurried and had multiple uneven layers, air bubbles, and rough edges. The manicurist just left me at the station after she's done without further instruction as to how long I should wait for the polish to dry. The The front desk did find someone to correct some of the uneven polishes, but only so much can be done at this stage. I thought this could become my regular manicure place, not anymore. Read Less

I adore Gretchen! She has been cutting my hair for almost a year now (time flies!!!) and there is nowhere she could go that I would not follow -- she is that magical! She has helped me make bold choices that I am comfortable with AND that makes me feel like a new, adventurous me (equally!). This is a review of the Red Door at Work service. This is where the Red Door technicians come to your office to offer their services of manicures and more. Their services are quite terrible. I don't believe they screen their technicians and if they do, I'm highly concerned with their processes. Not only that, but they offer a polish called, "vinyl-lux" - which they allegedly claim lasts longer and offered at an additional charge. Regardless if you choose this option or not, the polish rarely lasts past the end of day. Let's talk about my most recent experience with Jamila. She came into the office environment in black lipstick, leggings, and wearing claws. That's the best way I can describe it. It's those fake tips that extend for miles. Okay, you are sending technicians to professional work environments, you would think that Red Door would ensure a dress code. Regardless, let's get past that because who cares how you are dressed right? It's about the work you deliver. My appointment was supposed to be at 11:20 am. I lost track of time due to working on a lot of assignments. I then suddenly remembered my appointment at 11:40 am. She was just sitting there - doing nothing that entire time. Why not check your appointments? Why don't you ask the receptionists to call us in because you are ready? Fine. She told me she would just take me then. Mind you, this means she will run in with another scheduled appointment. My office runs high on meetings, etc. time is of the essence. It would cause delays to everything, but okay let's get past that too. She starts filing my nails. I just asked for a square with rounded edges. She does this, but also files my nails completely off. I literally have no white part of my nail left. She goes, you should have told me. I'm sorry, as a nail technician, I'm supposed to tell YOU to not file the white tip of my nail completely off? Not only that, previous technicians typically ask do you want it very short or do you just want me to shape your nails? Since she asked for the shape and my nails were pretty short, I didn't think she was filing them completely away. Not only that, she left the entire sides of my nails without polish. She was too concerned with the polish going on to her freakishly long claws. To top it off, she left a sloppy finish all around my cuticles. Not straight. They were all jagged and I had to ask her to fix it. If I could do nails better than paying to get them done,  what is the point? She then asks me if we have foil in the office because someone requested a gel manicure and that never happens so she didn't bring foil. I asked her to ask the receptionist because I wasn't sure. She just asks my coworker who was waiting on her appointment because her lazy self didn't want to get up off the chair. TERRIBLE! Read Less

I arrived early for my appointment and was greeted as expected. My first service was a relaxing spa week facial with Izabella and it was outstanding. She was a very pleasant person and her work left my face literally glowing. My second service was a body destress treatment with Vinca who seemed ...very nice but her service reversed the relaxing effects of my facial.. Now I can remember when red door first starting offering the de-stress treatment for spa week. I have been getting the service every chance I could when it was offered for spa week so I am pretty familiar with the process. My service today seemed to be made up as we went along. Based on what I've experienced in the past the service consists of exfoliation followed by an application of moisturizer. Then you sit for some time wrapped on a heated bed. The result is the softest skin you can imagine. But today that's absolutely not what I experienced. First, my appointment was 5pm and she didn't show until 5:13p. Because the process is usually oily I was expecting to be offered disposable underwear and a covering for my hair as usual but I wasn't. Then when she starts the service she begins by applying moisturizer? So I ask why she didn't start with exfoliation. She tells me that she is doing both at the same time? Then she mixes something at the table and begins to apply a cream that feels gritty with exfoliation gloves. The combination of the two was very harsh and unpleasant. When I asked what the substance was she simply said "a mixture of things" and it felt like it - gook! I then asked about why my skin felt so sticky and gritty? Would I need to shower this sticky grit off? I was advised to avoid steam and sweating for the next 4 hours after my facial so I wasn't happy. "If you want to shower you can" was all she said then proceeded to slathered on some other substance before giving what felt to me like a bed bath! She attempted to remove all the gook with a hot, wet towel. The result left me wet and chilly but still slightly gritty. I had to take a shower before I left so I wouldn't feel like I just left the beach. Of course with my luck the shower I picked wasn't working properly and sprayed me in the face no matter how I tried to avoid it. Before I left I informed the receptionist who checked me out. When I spoke to her about my concerns with the body treatment service I received she seemed uninterested but gave me a 20% discount. She stated that the service received can vary with the service provider which I didn't buy at all. Came here for a bridal shower party. A few of us was running late due to wkend train issues. My massage was cut short due to this which was understandable but they accommodated one of the girls by giving her a full 1 hr facial, but did not w my massage. I let it go since it wasnt a big deal really. One of the girls told me her masseuse just absolutely did not show up for work at all.. so she ended up w no masseuse and jus gave her massage up to the bride. How unprofessional of the masseuse not to show up for work when u have a scheduled appt BUT what happened to schedulin another masseuse to take her place??Anyway, my massage which was short was not anything memorable. All i remember was being cold, sniffling, smelling lavender and the headrest puttin my neck in an awkward position. The masseuse was nice but she did not focus on my knots like i told her to.. she kept goin past it.Mani and pedi time came and the girls were all finally in the same room (after much confusion on where 2 other girls were). However, we were all finished at different times.. i thought if there were 7 of us, there should be 7 technicians at the same time but it wasnt. 2 of our girls ended up finishing way after us. The mani and pedis were only ok, it isnt as neat as i wanted them to be.. and limited nail color selection. The only plus is they get u drinks during ur session!Some of us didnt even bother doin the make up refresher. According to the girls who did it, they asked for a more natural look and light makeup but the artist ended up doing the opposite. Another also commented on the makeup brushes not being cleaned after each customer.. yuck!Overall just okay. Had a couples massage with my fiancé a week before our wedding. From the moment we got there it felt like a 5 star experience. The locker room was IMMACULATE the robes were beyond comfortable. Worst experience EVER!!! I went to the location on Union Square and after 20 minutes of of looking around and testing the fragrances NO ONE bothered to ask me if I needed any assistance. I asked for help and the sales lady hesitated to help me and assumed that I could not afford any of their products. One sales person came and did assist me with my purchase. So...after being verbally attacked twice by the same guy in the SI Ferry and R train, I went to the nearest park to break down. In between of breaking down and texting my friend and coworker, a friend suggest that I go home and take a bath bomb. But my stomach was feeling pretty bad and I was still shaken up. I had no intentions of going straight home so I decided to treat myself to a massage. I've only been to Red door for the products, never had other services. So I called around 1:30 and was able to schedule an appointment for a massage at 2:00. Now, this was my first experience with getting a massage! Everything went great: had a massage on time, no need to wait extra. The massage area is located downstairs. The interior was beautiful. They had a changing room, shower, bathroom. The changing room had combs, lotion, mouth wash, cotton swabs, hair blow dryer, cotton, and a shaver. After changing, I went into the waiting area. Nice dim light, they had cookies, and berries socked in water. (OHH FANCYYYYYYY. I know I know.) I had the aromatherapy massage with Neisha. It went great. She was nice and allowed me to smell different scents to see which was suited for me. I told her I was feeling down so she picked the one that would help uplift my spirit (since I thought all the aroma smelt the same). Just a FYI  the aromatherapy massage is basically the Swedish massage but aroma has.. the aroma.. The shower had shampoo, conditioner, body wash and shavers.PS.
