VERY long overdue review. I got my haircut with Xavier for 4 years and started coming here when he moved over here from a different salon. I have nothing but amazing things to say about this salon and the only reason I don't come here anymore is because I wasn't working in the city for a period of time and it's a little far from my office now. You'd be surprised how many stylists can't hold a decent conversation without it sounding forced....not here....I could literally talk to anyone here about anything ALL day. First and last time at this salon. Despite the high price point, Roman K uses cheap L'Oreal color that turned my healthy, shiny hair into a brillo pad. I went to another salon to have it corrected and was told Roman K's colorist never even applied a glaze. In addition to my hair looking brassy and dull, the training assistant burned my ear with the hair dryer. Other negatives... the rickety elevator upstairs and the owner's (assistant, family member, girlfriend??) strutting around the salon and staring the customers down. I was looking for a new salon and had heard wonderful things about this salon, so i decided to make an appointment to see for myself. Roman was a recommendation from a friend and I've never looked back. My first hair treatment experience with Roman was the Cezanne Relaxer-changed my life-it takes me 1/2 the time to blow dry and style my hair now and I didn't loose my natural care-just the frizz. I have got very think, course hair and Roman always cuts my hair beautifully paying close attention to my texture. I have been Roman's client for over 3 years now and every 6 weeks I return for my routine roots cover-up . I can't say enough good things about Natalie and her work! First off, she has the best personality - she's friendly, energetic, knowledgeable, cultured, and a great conversationalist - don't underestimate the importance of this when you are standing naked in front of a stranger for 15 minutes! When you meet her you feel like you have known her forever and talking with her is like catching up with an old friend.Natalie is a perfectionist who truly takes pride in her work and cares about her clients and their satisfaction with their spray tan. I bought a package so I saw Natalie on several occasions. She custom mixes the tanning formula to achieve your desired color. Before your appointment: I recommend getting there before your scheduled time and calling if you're cutting it close because Natalie is very punctual and has a packed schedule of clients (she's in high demand!) Her studio is in the back of the salon to the left. There is a single bathroom in the back to the right (no paper towels) and an ATM if you need it. Basically, come clean and exfoliated without makeup or deodorant and bring loose dark clothing to change into. I would add flip flops to the list too. (Make sure the shirt you bring can be worn without a bra.) If you need a mani/pedi or shower, do it before your session because your skin can't get wet after. Bring cash for her tip!During your appointment: Natalie tells you what to do before, during, and after you tanning session. A shower cap, hair tie, baby wipes, disposable thong, and stickies for the bottoms of your feet are provided. She paints liquid latex on your fingernails and toenails to prevent discoloration (it doesn't damage gels and peels off easily). Natalie walk you through a series of positions to stand in as you get sprayed. When she's done you can check yourself out in the mirror to make sure you're happy. She sets you up in front of fans (and heat lamps if it's cold out) to dry. After your appointment: Try not to sweat, so now is not the time to schedule that 6am spin class for the following day. Be careful if it's raining or if your eyes water. Touching your skin with your fingertips will tan those too so try to avoid it (I learned this the hard way). Make sure you have old sheets on your bed too. I'd recommend sleeping in an old, loose white or light colored cotton tee. My tan will look its best the few days following my session and will fade throughout the following week. Using a gradual tanning lotion like the one by St. Tropez can extend your tan once it starts to fade. I only had one instance where my tan didn't come out as planned and Natalie was quick to get me in for a touch up which I found very professional and clearly appreciated. My scalp was irritated all week and yesterday I woke to find a HUGE BALD SPOT the size of a half dollar on the side of my head! My hairstylist Racquel Benedetto claims that I had it before I came in and that she thought I knew. If I had a bald spot this big I definitely would have noticed it and any hairstylist would certainly have mentioned it. If ...a stylist's client did, in fact, have a hair loss or medical issue, I can't imagine he or she would ever proceed with applying the keratin treatment and such high heat! At minimum, the stylist would ask if there is something he or she should know about, which didn't occur since there is nothing medically wrong with me and no bald spot existed before my visit to the salon. I have photos from the week before my treatment that show no signs of hair loss. Photos and videos of my hair up and from all angles for several months leading up to my salon visit to back myself up and people who will testify that there was no spot the morning of my visit either. I followed Dayna here and she is _amazing_. Have always had trouble finding a stylist for my thick asian hair. Even though I'm in my mid-30s, other stylists I've tried in NYC weren't able to layer my hair properly (leaving it poofy and weird). I was constantly being mistaken for someone very junior by work clients. Dayna has consistently given me a gorgeous, extremely professional cut that stays beautiful for weeks; since I started seeing her, I never get weird "aren't you a little young?" comments from clients anymore.  She also has ZERO struggle managing my hair, she can do it in the normal amount of time (it took someone an hour and a half once to cut my hair somewhere else...seriously). As long as I live in NYC, she will be my stylist!The salon itself has a warm, but elegant atmosphere. Everyone is really kind but not overly attentive. I have been looking for a salon that is consistent, friendly & does beautiful work for the past 7years.  I've FINALLY found it!!!  Roman K Salon. I walked in asking for a haircut and walked out with the hairstyle I wanted. The hairstylist was very friendly and kind. The only problem is that she carelessly cut the nape of my neck, around 2cm under my hairline. It bled for hours and felt very painful. I appreciated that the hairstylist was flexible enough to accommodate me although I had not booked a reservation in advance. She is an artist when it comes to the new age color processes galore and gave me exactly what I wanted and more! She is the best colorist (seems so natural and easy for her to choose colors to best match the individual). And she takes her time explaining what she is doing. She mastered the natural balayage/ombre look that I've been longing for after getting a short cut that needed some umph. I've got an amazing French manicure with Olga in RomanK salon on 5th ave. The service was excellent and the work was neat. By my surprise, Olga speaks both languages English and Russian so we had a lot of things to talk about while she was doing her work. I have got a great hands massage also. It was so relaxing!!!Next time I will definitely come back for both manicure and pedicure. High up in the sky... well, it's only the 5th floor but still! I love the beautiful light pouring in through the front windows at this super clean, upbeat salon. Everyone is professional and Lauren Arbulu gave me highlights that simply blew me away. I've never loved my hair so much!!!! Natalie is the absolute best. I've been going to her for years now, and she is the only person I trust!  It's natural looking and she is caring and lovely. I got married in Colorado last summer and was nervous about having to be sprayed by someone for the first time before such an important day.  I asked Natalie for advice on tanning solutions, and she surprised me by sending me to CO with a custom mixed bottle of solution for the airbrush person there to use for me and my mom. I had a spray tan yesterday and it was by far the best spray tan I have ever had! I arrived checked in with the front desk and within a few minutes I was greeted by Natalie. Though I have had a spray tan before Natalie's pre and post tan instructions were great. Through the whole process Natalie made me feel relaxed and very confident that I would have great results! SOOO I've never had a spray tan before and felt like it was very necessary after the longest winter on the planet. Bought a voucher on gilt, $35 for a spray tan instead of the usual $69. The spray bar is actually apart of the Roman K. salon on 5th avenue. The salon is very clean, nicely decorated and comfortable. The staff is friendly and professional. I was nervous about my first spray tan because it's being fully naked in front of another person you don't know, but Amanda was friendly, professional and made me feel comfortable. The spray itself takes about 5 minutes tops, then you dry for 2 minutes. I can't say how OBSESSED i am with my new tan. It's soo even, natural and beautiful! I feel so happy that I tried this at the Roman K. Salon. I'm DEFINITELY going back when my tan fades. Woooooo tans! Read Less

Wow! What an experience this was! Got a perfect color & cut by Roman himself. Came in not knowing what i wanted to do with my hair exactly, but trusted the professional suggestions by Roman, and I am MORE than just happy with the results! Love my hair! The salon itself is very unique, with an incredible ambiance, super friendly staff with a bar/lounge area where you are served mimosas and other good stuff while waiting! I had a Great first experience at the salon and am looking forward to my next visit (which I already pre booked) before the holidays. I was greeted by the Staff of RomanK right away when I first entered the salon (They were so friendly and welcoming). From Start to Finish, I had an OUSTANDING experience with Pascal and Courtney. Both Pascal and Courtney did a full consultation together on my hair. Thoroughly they explained what I need to enhance and alter for the best result ...for my Color and Cut. They were patient with me and extremely knowledgeable.First Pascal worked his magic for my haircut, and then Courtney created beautiful highlights in my hair using the Balayage technique. While I was processing I sipped on a delicious glass of wine, while having the Manicurist Kristina give me her signature Medical Manicure. After Courtney finished my highlights, she hydrated my hair with an Intense Shu Uemura Treatment, leaving my hair feeling brand new.
