Wish I could leave no stars. The woman who did my hair hit me repeatedly in the face with a big comb. I told her to stop, she was hurting me! She said "I'm almost done" and proceeded to hit me again. When I complained to the manager I was told not to come back, none of the stylists would work on me! I now have big ruptured, unsightly blood vessels on my face and no recourse. The worst place. I was going for a while and not happy with the stylist. I tried to switch stylists and Kim the manager told me I wasn't allowed to switch. Huh?? Not allowed? Who are you my mother? It's been a while since I had anything done to my hair and it was time for a change so I could actually feel good about myself, so my friend and I went there today. Barbara Ann was my hair stylist and she gave me exactly what I wanted. Violet highlights framing my face, a side bang that was also violet and some highlights in the back. When she had finished, my hair looked absolutely amazing and worth every penny. I had a similar hair style done with red at a different salon that is now closed and I spent $300. After receiving a very bad color treatment at one of the other locations, I was told to come here to have it corrected. I met with one girl who wasn't able to help me and then a second girl who felt she could correct it. I had a green tint left in my hair from a bad color job at the other salon. I explained everything that I had done to my hair since the last salon experience so that the girl would have all of the information she needed to make sure she didn't do any damage. She said that she would need to bleach out the green. This was concerning bc I had just spent 5 months repairing my hair from over-bleaching damage from the other salon and I didnt want to deal with having to go through that ever again. I asked the girl if we could just dye it a darker color with some red in it to counter the green color and she said that wouldn't help, it must be bleached to correct the color. I explained my reservations again but she assured me she would watch my hair throughout the process and make sure it didn't get damaged.She applied bleach, rinsed it out and then told me she could add color on top so I'd have normal brown hair back. Great!  I'd finally look normal again! She had initially said I may have to come back multiple times to get all the green out so this sounded like good news.After she rinsed the brown color from my hair, she said it may be a little lighter brown but it had sort of an ombre look so it still looked good. Wonderful!She finally sat me down at her station in front of a mirror and I was horrified. My hair did not look light brown and there was no ombre effect. I looked like a scarecrow. She told me I'd have to keep coming back for the coloring bc it wasn't sticking due to the damaged state my hair was in. Then I watched this girl try to brush my destroyed hair as chunks were clearly coming out in the brush. I finally had to ask her to stop brushing my hair. I just wanted her to stop touching my hair. Why would you keep brushing someone's hair when chunks are clearly coming out as you brush?! I just wanted to leave after that bc I was so upset. I left the salon and burst into tears. I now have chunks of hair missing from either side of my head as well as in the back of my head. There are literally 2-3" long chunks of hair that I just have to wait and let grow out until it matches the rest of my hair. I have to pin them down with Bobby pins so they dont stick out around my face. Its an awful orangy yellow color and my hair looks like straw.  AND it's so damaged that I have to go buy more repair products to heal my hair after this girl destroyed it! They offered to put repairing treatments in my hair but after these experiences, there was no way I was letting anyone from this salon touch my hair again. Had this girl told me this result was even a possibility I would've demanded she dyed it the darker color and avoided bleach altogether. She clearly didn't watch my hair closely enough and does not know as much about corrective color as she let on. The best part is when I called the next day to explain how upset I was, their response was that the girl did everything right and the process should have worked. So apparently my hair defies science and it's my fault?!? They agreed to give me some of my money back but I'm still stuck with damaged hair for the next few months, yet again. I had to go to another salon a few weeks later (after my hair had time to heal and could be combed again) to get a more natural color instead of looking like a scarecrow. I also had to cut it to my shoulders (it's usually as long as my bra line) bc I couldn't deal with having so much of my hair damaged and breaking constantly for another 5 months.If you need color correction or anything that requires a unique color process,  I'd go somewhere else. There is nothing worse than feeling like you're having a bad hair day & hating the way you look for months and not being able to do anything about it. Read Less

I have been to tons of hair salons in the area and haven't quite found my "go-to" place, until today. I was paired with a wonderful stylist (new to NY) named Hannah. From the initial phone call to book the appointment to the time I walked out the staff there was so sweet and were offering me water,coffee,tea etc. I wasn't sure exactly what kind of color I wanted so I tried my best to give Hannah an idea, she went to town on highlights and even brought out the toner color book so I could have say in what color I wanted my highlights to be. It made me feel like she actually cared and was determined to make sure I left as happy as possible. At first I was very nervous since so many stylists have ruined my hair but she did an AMAZING job and kept me laughing the entire appointment! Such a sweet girl and great stylist! Definitely recommend! Not a 5 star rating because I haven't gotten a hair cut there yet.. to me thats the determining factor! Read Less

I had a groupon for a deep conditioning, cut and blow out and decided to check out the Main Street location in the hub of Huntington. Making an appointment was easy, the receptionist was very polite and accomodating. The salon has the potential to be a 4 or 5 star review, but there were a few things keeping it from getting there for me. The couch in the waiting area looked like it had been through a war--very torn and beaten up. They had a little table set up with coffee and fruit water, which was nice. Again, the receptionist was very pleasant and welcoming. One pet peeve of mine, though that extends far beyond the Salon world, is when no introductions are made. My stylist didnt' introduce herself and very hastily asked what I wanted done, then kind of ...disagreed...with what I wanted done. I felt she didn't spend enough time on the cut and didnt' give enough attention to layering. Although she seemed nice enough, the experience wasn't one that made me want to go back to pay full price. I purchases a Groupon for a shellac manicure and regular pedicure. The pedicure turned out well, but the manicure isn't the best. Some of the color bled into my cuticle and the ends of my nails have the color cleaned off from when the nail technician was trying to fix her mistake of accidentally polishing the tip of my finger. For $25 I can't complain too much. It is near impossible to get a shellac manicure and full pedicure for $25 unless you take a chance getting a Groupon know a salon you don't know. Stay away from Kim and the Cactus Salon on Main Street in Huntington. I was treated terribly because I purchased a Groupon for a blowout. The Groupon clearly states can not have been there within 12 months. I was there 14 months ago. She waited until my hair was wet to embarrass me in front of the other customers. When I made the appointment I was told I could use the Groupon.They need to change wording on Groupon. The worst haircut and color of my life. Rikki  colored my hair but left a 2 inch gap of my previous color at the root so it looked like I got my color done awhile ago.  Also, I asked for a blunt cut and she layered it and said she was giving it texture.   Will never ever go back.  Will go somewhere else next time and get what I asked for. I've got the worst haircut in my life in Cactus salon! I just wanted to cut my ends a little bit because I loved my long hair. Rikki used strange technique and I told her many times not to cut so much, but she said she just made "waives". All my friends where shocked. She cut half of my length and made one side longer then the other side because she didn't compare what she cut. I needed to go back to this place and fix my hair. Before I give you my review let me explain one thing.  I am not a girly girl and I know I can be very difficult to work with as a client.  Having said that, I LOVE cactus of Huntington, the one on main street.  I know there are two in Huntington.  I have been going there for years and the staff is so friendly that we have become actual friends! Also the girls are very tallented, you can tell by their personal styles that they eat, sleep, and breath style.  My review is on my experience with  coloring, cut, curls and up-do.  I always get my hair cut and colored by Natasha.  If it were up to me I would have a basic cut because like i said before I am not very girly.  So i tell Natasha what I like and let her do her thing.  I am always impressed with the results.  She has a real gift when it comes to cutting hair.  Natasha also colors my hair.  I don't do it often because I am lazy and she has picked up on it and would suggest to me low maintenance looks.  This I LOVE!!!  I don't look homeless after a few months. :)Barbra Ann curled my hair for a wedding and it came out beautiful.  My hair usually goes flat but not this time.  I told my sister in law about the saloon and she ended up getting an up-do from Victoria.  My sister in law is like me, we know what we like but not what works for us.  She ended up getting an interact braided up-do that was something out of a dream.  It was so beautiful, defiantly something out of the vision of an artist. I officially swear by this place!  Marie is a a highlighting hair cutting GODDESS.  I have been to countless hair salons all over the island for years looking for the perfect color and cut and I have finally found it here, right in my hometown which is AWESOME.  Staff is SUPER friendly and accommodating.  Prices are pretty reasonable.  I highly recommend this place. I went here because I wanted to get those feather extensions and this is the only place I found that did them. I fell in love with Barbra Ann, she always asks what you like, is this ok. She wants to please her costumers, she also takes classes to be up to date on the latest trends. She turned me on to my latest hair, the ombre effect. I highly recommend her and I am very picky, with my hair! I took my girlfriend to her also and she fell in love with her as well.The shampoo girls, ah,  few times they didn't ask if the water was ok and it kept getting in my ears. I think the one girl was very new and stressed so. Maybe I just went on bad days. If I didn't really like Barbra  Ann I probably wouldn't go back. Read Less

Had a haircut here. Had to deal with some politics with the prep wash 1st time - wash girl being rough with my hair b/c that's what the hairstylist wanted, no concern that she was hurting me. AWFUL....they do not know what they are doing when it comes to hair. I waited 30 minutes after my appointment for the stylist to waste another 20 minutes wondering how to highlight my hair...oh and they burned my scalp so badly I literally had blisters throughout my whole head. NICE...I told them I was in pain and she kept being too rough with my hair anyways. The best part, I still was charged for a blow out when I didn't have one done because my scalp was so tender I couldn't run a comb through my hair without screaming.  This place is a joke. Read Less
