Absolutely LOVE this place!!! Service is top notch and they are very flexible, even when I had to cancel last minute for my kids. I was able to get a same day appointment and experienced the best shampoo and haircut I've ever had. Toscana is plush and professional yet welcoming and friendly.  I was not kept waiting long and Brittany styled my shaggy hair with care, ensuring that she fully understood my expectations for the finished look. What a great idea to wash the hair after the trim, effectively removing loose hairs that might slip down and itch my back for hours afterwards. This is not a spa. My husband got me an expensive massage and pedicure and it did not feel like a spa experience, it felt like a regular Asian place you get your nails done. There's no shower where you can feel relaxed in a robe and pamper yourself with nice lotion or soap. At least Excuria has that experience whenever you purchase a treatment. I hate writing bad reviews, and I've been putting this off for a couple of days, especially since the staff were really nice.And the staff was very nice, courteous and everything. I just haven't been thrilled with either my manicure nor totally with my haircut.Maybe I was just used to a different experience in NoVa. I had been putting off cutting my hair for a few months now, and I really had looked around to find something with high marks, and this place seemed to fit the bill.  I figured I would throw in a basic manicure while I was there as well.Part of it could have been the weather, I'm not sure. There were only a couple of people on staff that day, and I seemed to be the only client. I'm used to busy salons with a lot of people in and out, so the emptiness was a little disconcerting. I was greeted, had my coat and belongings were taken and stored.The first part was the manicure, which was where things kind of started to go wrong. The manicurist was very nice and pleasant, but the things she did to my hands weren't. She cut my cuticles very close, causing at least one of them to bleed, and she used her own fingernails as tools to clean up some of the polish. My middle finger is still looking pretty angrily red and tender to the touch, and there's discoloration from scabbing, and most of the polish is chipped already, but that part may be my own fault. I think I should probably have opted for clear polish.During the hair consult, I showed the stylist some pictures of how I had it cut previously, and said that she had free rein but that I'd like to have something similar. She did a decent job of it, but I feel like it looks ... ragged somehow after the fact, like she wasn't very experienced doing layering. This might be because she was younger, with less experience than my previous stylist, but I'm not absolutely loving what I ended up with. Received a certificate as a holiday gift. Since this is not my "usual" place, I wasn't sure what to expect. In all honesty, I'll never go to Toscana again.The two stars I have awarded are for ease in scheduling an appointment, pleasant decor of the facility, and for cleanliness.As I walked in the door, I was greeted by my pedicure tech who promptly showed me the selection of polishes on the main counter....to purchase. Wow....a sales pitch within one minute of entering the salon - that has to be a record. The selection of polishes they offered that were not for purchase was quite limited, and had a difficult time finding a seasonally appropriate color...bright pink shouldn't be hard to come by in the summer months, right? Good thing I brought my own...I was shown to the pedicure area and asked if I wanted coffee, tea or water. I chose water and that's exactly what I got....a small glass of tepid tap water...no ice, no lemon/fruit...just tap water. At the very least, just have a mini fridge with cold mini bottles...no one expects the fruit, but if you're trying to portray a high-end spa feel, room-temp tap water isn't going to get you there.I was hoping for a relaxing spa pedicure, but that wasn't the case. The room was quite trafficked, and the tech was extremely chatty. Odd lighting as well, as bulbs were out in the corner where I was seated and the tech seemed to have a difficult time seeing my toes when it came to applying polish. Perhaps that is why I had to "tidy" the finished result myself. When I inquired about the lighting, she replied that it had been out for some time, the management knew about it but "no one's gotten around to it".When I divulged in conversation to the tech that I had circulation issues, she took this opportunity to launch another sales pitch for a line of lotions and creams they carry that are for circulation. No, no they are not. I'm under a doctor's care, and in reviewing the pamphlet she insisted I take, this stuff is not made to treat medical conditions. Just another sales pitch :(Did I have an awful experience? No. Was it completely enjoyable? Not really. Do my feet look nice? Yes. Will I go there again or recommend to a friend? Likely not. I was incredibly unhappy and frustrated with the services I received at Toscana.  I went in for an updo and nails for a special concert.  I was scheduled to have Gen (the owner, who I was told specializes in updos) do my hair, and another girl do my nails.  When I got there, I was given someone else for hair.  She was a nice girl and very friendly, but didn't seem to know how to do an updo on straight shiny hair.  She had to keep re-doing parts of it, because it kept sliding out.  When I went to pay, the cashier tried jacking up my bill an extra $25 from what we agreed on, because my updo somehow magically changed into a "black tie updo" because "it was a complicated updo, look how long your stylist took".  I had to ask for the manager and explain that this was neither black tie nor complicated, it just took a long time because the girl wasn't doing things right and had to keep re-doing parts of it!  The owner and cashier acted like they were doing me a HUGE favor letting me pay our previously agreed-upon price.The girl who did my nails was nice too, but put on too many layers of polish too quickly.  When I got in my car, my polish smeared everywhere.  I had to go back in, have them take it off, and ask for a refund for the polish change.  Then, the owner didn't know how to do a refund on her new credit card machine and wouldn't give it to me in cash so I could just leave.  I had to ask her to write and sign an IOU for my refund!  (The refund did show up on my account later).By the time I got to my concert 15 minutes down the road, my updo was already falling down.  UGH!  I was very frustrated that no one at this salon seemed to know how to do their jobs properly: the hair girl didn't do a quality updo, the nail girl didn't do a quality polish change, and the owner couldn't operate her own credit card machine.  The receptionist also couldn't log into the computer properly, she had to keep asking the hair and nail girls to come give her their passwords!  No one here knows how to do their jobs!   While this business has many 5 star reviews that pop right up (what caught my attention and convinced me to go there), there are many poor reviews on Google Reviews and CitiSearch once you go digging.  Unhappy customers have even suggested that the rave reviews are posted by the owner and her employees/family/friends to try and cancel out all the complaints and boost their own rating.    I was very unhappy with Toscana's service, and I would NOT recommend this salon. Before I ever had a pedicure, I had a mental image of what the experience would be like: tastefully decorated, modern yet comfortable atmosphere with relaxing music, comfortable chairs and a glass of wine in hand.Finally, I found the salon that matches my dream pedicure experience.This salon is two stories, converted from a house.  The nail salon is on the second floor.  Gorgeous high ceilings with sky lights, beautifully decorated with a small dry bar.  Wine was immediately offered to us - YES PLEASE.The technicians were incredibly professional.  Just enough "small talk" but also allowing us to be quiet or just chat amongst ourselves.They provided all the services I've come to expect in a pedicure, including lengthy massage, exfoliation, hot towels, etc.  My feet have NEVER felt so smooth as they did after this particular pedicure.A pedicure costs $46 which isn't cheap - but if you are looking for the full relaxing experience, this is the place to go. I was greeted by the friendly receptionist, offered water and was quickly taken upstairs to their beautiful large room (where they do spa parties) to begin my day of pampering. I started with a manicure which was wonderful. Uzma was my manicurist and she did a wonderful job. Very personable and attentive. Next was a pedicure. I've had many pedicures in my life but this one topped them all. Diane was so friendly and took her time. About an hour was spent and my feet look and feel great! I love the chairs they have, with built in music/headphones and a pulsating vibration to the beat of the music. Although the shiatzu massage chairs are still my favorite. I was offered a glass of wine while having my services done. If you're ever thinking of doing a spa party, this room is perfect. With many nail stations and pedicures spa chairs, there's also a relaxing room and a full bar where you can bring food and drinks to set up, it's very nice! I didn't have a chance to get a massage in, but I did meet Joelle who just gave me a 2 minute feel of her touch and I can't WAIT to go back and see her! I have been going to Toscana for the past 4 years and will not trust anyone else to cut my hair or do a sugaring treatment for me. Diane was the first person I trusted to cut my long hair short and did an amazing job. Jen has been cutting my hair for a couple years and I love going in and catching up with her. Worst salon ever. Spent over $1,000 maintaining my blonde hair. Had problems with the salon I had been going to so I tried Toscana. WORST DECISION OF MY LIFE. Turned my entire head PINK. Applied 6 toners and extra foils only to reveal PINK HAIR. Spent over 9 hours in 2 days at this salon. Left with dark brown hair on only half of my head since I initially went in for a partial highlight and the owned told her "top stylist" she would only dye that half. To top it all off, they tried charging me $100 for hair products to bring my hair back to a decent health since the 6 toners that served no purpose completely fried my hair.After going out of my way to make sure my experience was heard, I realized the reviews on yelp are the exact same as Google. Perfect proof that the owner is writing her own reviews. DO NOT GIVE THIS WOMAN YOUR MONEY. AND DON'T PUT YOUR HAIR AT RISK. For a while, Toscana Salon and Day Spa was one of my favorite spas to goto in the area.  Toscana has refurbished a beautiful home in Clarence, New York and transformed it into a classy spa with a Tuscan feel.  Over the years, I have utilized most of the services here including their massages, pedis and manis.  I even took a chef-friend for a mani/pedi who has hobbit-like feet and hands that reflect his years of searing and chopping in the kitchen.  It was the day before his wedding and all the girls were getting their hair did.  While he was skeptical as to the masculinity behind mani/pedi's he was quickly won over by the skilled hands of the staff.  (A good leg scrub and massage can quickly turn the hardest of hearts.)  Even more impressive the girls didn't bat an eye (or lose their lunch) as he dipped his Frodo-pods into the warm bubble bath in anticipation of the horrors that awaited.I always like Toscana because it had a warm, family-like feel.  The owner always greeted me at the door, offering wine, coffee or water as I would wait in anticipation for my massage.  One time, around Christmas, they even offered me Cannoli as I waited.  Mi piace!!Every time I go to Toscana I would request Gina for a massage, though I'm not sure if she's still there as I have not been to this spa in quite some time.  Gina has amazingly skillful hands and a wonderful touch that makes for an amazing massage.  However, my problem with Toscana, as most spas in the area is that they do not have any changing rooms or showers.  I HATE going home dripping with massage oil and getting it all over my clothing and car seats.  As much as I love Toscana, it was much easier to go to Excuria which is closer and has those facilities (along with their amazing steam shower).While I truly miss Toscana, I would highly recommend their services to anyone who isn't as picky as I am about a shower after a massage. My cousin and I had been looking for a new salon to go to since we moved here. We both have particular hair colors and styles each having certain issues most stylists have not been able to handle very well.I made an appointment for a cut and correction color with Kathy and she was able to fit me in the very next day! It worked out perfect for me seeing as I only have one day off a week. She even said she could fit my cousin in for her color while my blonde was processing. Very convenient!The salon itself is extremely adorable! It has a relaxed, inviting atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable the entire time you're there!Kathy is absolutely amazing as well! She is well-spoken, knowledgeable, and very sweet. She knows what she is doing and listens to what you want. She does what you want, not what she wants. She has you leave feeling wonderful and very happy with the result, which she styles in a realistic manner. She does a style that fits in your life and is something that you can do yourself if your not an experienced hair stylist like she is.I will refer people to Toscana Salon from now on. I think this is most likely the best facial experience I've had. Every part of it was wonderful.
