I had a horrible experience here. First of all, the owner was talking non stop about herself and her family and how rich, famous, wonderful and gracious they are. I brought my own magazine but it was impossible to read for 1 minute, she is completely obsessed with herself. It seems as if she was always better, stronger, fastest than anything you would say or introduce about yourself. I made an appointment for washing and drying (duh!) and by the time she was finishing me another customer arrived (very rude, BTW) rushing the hairdresser, and the latter asked me if I really wanted my hair to be dried. I told her that of course I wanted my hair dried since I reserved some time for that. The worst part was the cut: I SPECIFICALLY TOLD HER TO DO A MODEST, LOW MAINTENANCE CUT. I arrived with a gorgeous long, a bit dry on the tips hair. Well, she was so obsessed with herself that I doubt she listened. She cut my hair on cheap, old-fashion sloppy layers, I went for a cut cause I have dry hair, and now I have it dryer cause I have to iron it cause otherwise I look like a f****** poodle, I swear in God that I did a better job all these years with my kitchen scissors. I really appreciate this salon. All organic and very comforting atmosphere. I did the smoothing treatment along with hair color. Almost a month later my hair is still less frizzy and smooth. I have naturally curly hair (which I love!!) but wanted to relax the curl for a change and am really pleased with the results. My curls are still there but have calmed down and I absolutely love the color!! My hair feels healthy and not fried from harsh chemicals!! Had a terrible experience with this salon — did the hair smoothing treatment, which made my hair smell like rotting flesh when wet (and a little when dry), for about two weeks. It did not take away the frizz, just made my hair flat and lifeless, but not straight as they claimed it would. When I complained, they said that I had not followed their post-care instructions (not true), and refused to refund me or offer any kind of fix. I’m pretty sure the treatment was applied incorrectly. I am not very picky about my hair, but I felt I had to post a review as this is the worst hair experience I’ve ever had. Read Less

I originally went to a different salon and ended up with a botched haircut. Lotus is close to where i live, so I rapidly called them to see if they could help me out. Jacqueline was a dream. Not only was she able to get me in that day despite a packed schedule but when she witnessed (and verified) the extent the haircut was botched and that it would take a whole new haircut rather than a casual trim to correct it, she spent and found time to work on it and treated me so well during the process.  I ended up with a great hair cut that made me feel good and that has received many compliments. Jacqueline was truly creative, and I felt that I could trust her. Both she and her daughter created such a friendly and welcoming environment. While the salon price was higher than I was used to, I really felt and feel it was worth it and one of the best haircuts I have received. Read Less

I love the non-toxic hair color and have received wonderful haircuts at Lotus, but it seems they've downsized and gone downhill over the past few years. Currently it seems to be just the owner and her daughter working there. The owner's daughter happens to be "Ali D." whose review of the salon appears here, btw! They spat and squabble and are rude to each other while giving hair treatment. That makes for an uncomfortable environment, even though clearly they also are close. The last time I went, the owner confused me with a different client and did not do my hair the way I asked, at all. She kept referencing being on painkillers so maybe that affected her ability. This is a really unique and high quality experience. Lotus Beauty Organic Hair Sslon is an amazing and beautiful space and the odor free environment along with the top notch organic color and product lines is on a par with anything you will find in the country. Now they even have a Pilates studio run by a highly trained , certified instructor with 13 years of teaching experience. It is a focused and quiet studio that really pays attention to detail and personal , individualized instruction that is custom tailored to your abilities or limitations. I live in Colorado, not Santa Fe, but desperately needed to get my hair done while visiting family in the area. I absolutely LOVED this salon. The women there were wonderful and very personable, and did exactly what I had asked for in a reasonable amount of time. The salon was beautiful and comfortable, and the use of all organic products, including dye, made my hair feel amazing afterwards. I spent what I would have in Colorado with my regular stylist, but my hair feels so much better than when I get it done using harsh dyes. I would recommend Lotus to anyone who wants great color treatments and organic, non-toxic products. It is a lovely space and feels welcoming and peaceful. They listened to what I wanted. As far as I know this is the ONLY salon in Santa Fe that exclusively offers ammonia-free, non-toxic hair color.  What a pleasure it is every few months to walk into this salon and instead of smelling all the usual chemicals, to smell only a faint whiff of lavender and sage.  The salon itself is totally serene, and the space is beautifully curated by the owner who I have been happily seeing for cuts and color for over a year now.  Jacqueline is a hoot and if you are lucky she will share some of the amazing stories from her colorful life or (if you ask) will quickly offer up recipe ideas for delicious 10 minute dinners as she takes care of you.  She always offers me a cup of tea when I arrive and there is always a plate of cookies out.  I have never had an issue with scheduling here but I do know that she has recently downsized so that she can focus more personally on each client.  I can't recommend this place enough!  LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. I hardly take the time to write a review, however I feel that this salon deserves above and beyond the praise. Having moved here from Arizona recently, I have had a hard time finding a good hair place. After reading a couple of reviews I chose Lotus Beauty where Stephanie did a superb job. I went in not knowing what to expect, and came out as happy as ever with my hair. Lotus has a relaxed and calming vibe, with incredibly great staff whose kindness echoes through out. I am very picky about my hair.  I don't color or anything like that; I just ask that whoever cuts my hair knows how to cut wavy hair.  Jacqueline gave me a cut that was even nicer than those my old stylist back East used to give, easy to care for, very attractive.  She was able to listen to my somewhat vague explanations of what I like and came up with a style that I hadn't even imagined was possible.  The salon is listed as pricey, which may be, but the cost was somewhat less than what I was paying in New Jersey. Going to Lotus Beauty is a very nurturing experience. I really appreciate that it is an organic salon. I also have found Jacqueline Antonius to be a very gifted stylist. I have very fine, straight hair that most stylists have not found much to do with. Jacqueline found a natural wave in it and cut the hair to take advantage of that. She also really listened to me when I explained what I needed as far as convenience and regular care, and she gave me a flattering, easy to maintain cut that I have truly enjoyed.Read Less

what happened??? i booked an appt to see Stephanie. i live far, drove all the way there, and the salon is closed??? Wasting my time with ppl who don't have the courtesy and competency to at least leave a note on the door or get an e mail saying it's closed. they need to check their e booking and block out the schedule. extremely disappointed at how unprofessional and lack of oversight. I visited Lotus for waxing only. The hair services look lovely. However - the waxing services were not up to par. The actual treatment room is a literal closet. The treatment table is against the wall, and the supplies are jumbled behind it in a shelf. The day I was there, the treatment light (that bright light with which your aesthetician sees what they are doing in a dark space) was not working. This meant that I received an eyebrow wax by faint light, and walked out with a chunk snipped out of the middle of my left eyebrow. Will never, ever consider waxing services there again. Read Less

I would NOT recommend this salon to anyone! I made an appointment here with a girl who I heard was good, but when I got to the salon (I was not notified beforehand) she was "out sick" and the owner said she was doing my hair. I did not like her attitude and my hair cut was not a good one. Then when I went to check out she said it wold be 80 DOLLARS. She washed my hair and cut 2 inches off - I could get that for 40 or less anywhere else. When I asked why it was so expensive she said thats what a haircut costs there for a "master stylist." She knocked it down to a junior stylist but I still ended up paying around 70 bucks for a very simple and crappy haircut. I lived in Santa Fe for over a year and heard nothing but horror stories about this place. Read Less

I would give this place NO STARS, if I could. After reading these reviews and for these prices I expected much much more. My stylist cancelled AN HOUR before my appointment at noon. Who does that? To add insult to injury, when I arrived at noon and asked when the message was left (when I had left home, there was no message) the unkept looking woman at reception replied "it doesn't matter when the message was left". Ummm...hello unprofessional person, actually IT DOES. Easily the worst salon I have ever encountered. You would probably get better service and better results at the local Supercuts judging from the reception persons hair and demeanor. NO THANK YOU. Read Less

I just had the brazilian straightening done at Lotus Beauty by Kate.  My hair feels like silk.  I was nervous about doing it, but Kate really put me at ease and she did a phenomenal job.  And the process is completely natural.  I'm going on a trip and won't have any electricity, but now I don't need to worry about not using a blow dryer because I don't need one!  Amazing!  Kate also colored my hair and did an excellent job with that , too.  I'm very happy with my experience with Kate at Lotus and will definitely be back. For an $85 haircut, I expected much more. The haircut looks like something from supercuts and was not even styled after the cut - beyond putting something in it that left it crispy (despite me saying that I was going out shopping and then to dinner afterward). I have curly hair, and she left it damp and looking like something out of the eighties (crispy and huge - because the repeated combing for the cut pulls the curls apart, usually stylists either re-wet it after the cut or straighten it). I was really embarrassed all evening. I've had unimpressive haircuts in the past (when I was a teenager and in college) but at least I paid $10 for them instead of almost $100. It looks so bad I've decided to get it re-cut just a month later. On the plus side, Jacqueline is very nice - just not experienced enough for curly hair. Read Less
