They were very friendly when I first walked in but when they started on my nails everything just went completely wrong. I was just a customer in this salon and was charged $28 for a REFILL! I am completely distraught at the fact I was charged that much all because "she had to re shape my coffin nails" when I ALREADY WALKED IN WITH COFFIN NAILS! Not to mention my refill was done very sloppy with lots of gaps and not filed down properly. I was referred here and I think this is a really great nail salon! Everyone was really friendly. They categorize their nail polish in an easy way (corresponding gel is behind regular so there’s no more guessing.) Everything was very clean and I thought their prices were fair. Especially love that if you pay cash it’s 5% off! I’ll definitely be back. While I agree with others that their prices are a little on the high side, I think you get what you pay for. I'm sick of paying for gel manicures that barely last longer than a regular $10 paint job. I have been to two other salons in the area and my gel starts peeling within 2-3 days. I attribute this to their sloppy work getting the gel on my cuticles which then breaks the seal as soon as my nails grow the slightest bit. Mary did my most recent manicure and you can tell she takes pride in her work. She checked every nail before putting them under the light. It has been 10 days and aside from a little grow out they look phenomenal. She did a great job on my toes as well. I only wish they had massage pedicure chairs. Where do I begin? I guess the best place to start is with the fact that they overcharged me by $15. I went in and asked for a pink gel fill in & they charged me for a pink and white fill-in. The tech Melissa started out OK she shaped my nails reasonably well. The problem began when she started to do my pink and white ombre. When I came in I had told her specifically that I wanted ombre & she assured me that she could do that for me. When the time came to apply the white she pulls out some pink and white gel polis. now every time I've had this done it's been airbrushed but she waited until that moment to tell me that they don't do airbrushing there. The mess that she left on my nails looked like a five-year-old had applied the polish.  needless to say I was really upset and told her this was not an ombre this was a disaster. At that point another tech Iris came over and attempted to repair it, all the time rudely looking at me like I was crazy for not being satisfied with the hideous job that had been done on my nails. When I checked out, the bill was $80 which I paid by credit card. They didn't even offer me the 5% discount that they afford customers for not paying with a credit card. They really should have not charged me for the hombre at all which is an extra $15 on top of the regular service. there was no effort whatsoever on their part to satisfy me even though they had messed up my nails so badly that I had to go somewhere else and have them fixed. nonetheless I paid the bill swearing to myself I would never be back and I even left both techs a (small) tip because I am not a nasty bitch. I normally tip $15. I gave both of them five dollars each and I went straight from there to my regular nail salon where it cost me $20 to have their screwup fixed. all told I overpaid for nothing an extra $35. Do not ever go here. *So I was corrected, not Heather, but I must have been seated in her booth bc everything at the station was labeled 'Heather'.Let me state one thing before I start my lengthy review. I haven't gotten acrylic tips done in a long time, but I was a regular with my nail girl back in high school. I had them done every 2-3 weeks, pink and white acrylics. I know what good work entails, and how the end product should look. With that said, I recently started biting my nails again from the stress of being back in school. Wanting to grow them out a bit, I decided to get acrylic tips while on summer break. Having seen the great reviews on yelp, I decided to make an appointment before going in. The receptionist was friendly and gave me an appointment time of 6:10 (or maybe 6:15). I asked her if this would be an adequate amount of time. I did not want to be rushed, nor did I want the nail tech to do a sloppy job trying to finish up by their closing time. However, she stated that it was completely fine, and that she would see me at my appointment.I get to the salon by 6:05, and was told by the receptionist that they are a little behind schedule, and that I should just have a seat. Okay. That's fine. At around 6:20, one of the techs comes up to me and says, "I am really busy. You should have made an appointment." So I'm a bit confused and reply, "I did. 6:10/6:15 actually." She kind of just said okay and walked away. It's 6:30, and I'm getting ready to walk out when another tech by the name of Heather asks me to sit in her chair. Before I sat down, once again, I asked if 30 minutes would be adequate time. I don't want to be rushed with a sloppy job, and she said it was completely fine. I trusted her and sat down at her station.She was nice and engaged in a little convo, but I was studying something on my iPad, and she let me be, which was nice. Almost immediately, I noticed Heather not doing a single thing about my cuticles. No pushing back, clipping.. nothing. She actually went over them with her drill and it looked like I had just knawled on them. Second, when she was applying the acrylic, I immediately notice how thick and uneven it was. However, I figured she would drill them down eventually so I just went with it. I think she finished the actual applying and drilling of acrylics in maybe 25 minutes top. It felt like such a crappy job, honestly. Next, I requested a gel color on top. I noticed her painting it right at the nail bed, almost getting the polish on to my cuticles. It was such a poor job, but I felt extremely uncomfortable with everyone just waiting around the nail bar for Heather to finish up with me (it was about 7:20 at this point). I quickly pay and ran to my car to take a look at my nails in normal lighting (the salon is a bit dark in my opinion). I was EXTREMELY disappointed. As you can see in the pictures, Heather left so much of the acrylic under the nail. It just looked incredibly messy and dirty. Like, you couldn't spend an extra minute or two going under my nails with the buffer? Also, the nails were kind of shaped weird, some longer than the other. As I mentioned above, the paint job wasn't great as well.I was just extremely disappointed and frustrated bc I stated NUMEROUS times, if time is an issue, I can reschedule. I was afraid of a half-assed job and made it vocal so many times. In the end, that's what I got. I should have just walked out when my gut feeling was telling me that it was getting to be too late. I will end the review by saying that I went to a different salon 3 days after to have them removed and redone. Two stars only because the receptionist and Heather were nice (the first nail tech that approached me was rude). However, the quality of work I had received was poor. Read Less

I came for a pedicure. They did not scrub my feet, my heels, my callouses, did not work on ingrown nail. Toes were not cut evenly on both feet. The good part was the leg & foot massage, but I want my feet clean, and free of dead skin, my callouses files down . Not for me. Read Less

Akoi nail spa has very beautiful decor and atmosphere. The girls that work there are also very pleasant and nice, making conversation! I really enjoyed my time there. It is a little pricey though. I got a rather expensive pedicure for a pretty average paint job. The only explanation I can think of is you are paying for the atmosphere? I tried two other local nail places before getting a recommendation to Akoi. I am NEVER going anywhere else! Hygenically pristine and professional. They even educated me on length and aesthetic molding for finger shape for the best look for me! Considerate and accommodating as making/keeping appointments is oftentimes hard for me. Each technition is skilled and talented however I do have my favorites (Jesstina and Crystal)  The quality of service is totally worth the price.  Very very reasonable.  Complementary coffee tea and water is offered and available,  warm wraps for the neck, and a great wrist and hand massage towards the end of the service.  I genuinely value that they offer what's best for the guest and don't try to get your check total higher and higher throughout the service. Loved this! Just went in for an express manicure. I'm scary careful about the polish I use and I read that they had Zoya polish which is one of the 5-7 free polishes. Super psyched about the color choices and they were able to fit me in pretty quickly. For $14 I was pretty happy with the results... 40 minutes later and I was done! This is by far the best Nail salon I have ever been to. The decor is super trendy and eye-catching. Things appeared to be very clean. The layout was very cool, instead of separate tables they had a long bar with bar stools for having nails done. I got my first set of gel's done here and I loved them. They lasted even longer than what my technician said they would. I also  was able to get an appointment the same day. Prices were pretty reasonable for the atmosphere. I don't get my nails done too much but for anyone that does I definitely recommend this place. Read Less

My fiancé sent me to Akoi for a relaxation mani/pedi. They sat me at one of the manicure chairs where I waited for at least a half hour only to move me to the Pedicure chairs to wait another 45 mins. The girl that came over was nice but she said she has an appointment with another customer soon so she wouldn't be able to do my manicure. She repeatedly answered her phone and texted with other clients. She ended up doing all mani, pedi and eyebrow wax. the wax I had to remind them about   I already don't like taking all the time for myself but when I do it should be a good professional experience. All I wanted to do was leave and never come back. I shouldn't have left a tip but maybe they will think of the person in front of them and not the NEXT customer. Read Less

I had a less than satisfactory experience at another nail salon and came to this salon hoping they could fix what the last nail technician did. I really wanted to set an appointment with Heather since hers was the only name in the reviews but she was too hard to get an appointment with since she's quite popular so instead I was paired with Crystal. I had my doubts initially, but I was pleasantly surprised. The surroundings were beautiful and very clean. There was a fresh smell in the air instead of the horrible smell of chemicals. The layout of the salon was modern where you get designs done at the nail bar. Very cute idea. In terms of the service, Crystal was very friendly and approachable and really listened to me. I'm extremely picky and I found out she was very particular about her work. She does very intricate designs and when she does gel polish on acrylic tips, she doesn't do the Polish or tips too thick so it looks more natural which I love. She stayed a whole hour after they closed just to make sure that she did my design perfectly. I was so impressed. The prices are good and worth it and they give you a 5% discount for using cash. Looking for a nice nail salon for my daughter's bridal nail party and read great reviews about this place so I called for appointment for pedi and mani and also telling them that I have the intention of booking for a bridal party.  As I walked in I could tell they were busy on a Friday afternoon,  The receptionist assigned me to Amy who started the soaking process.  There were already 2 ladies sitting next to me being serviced.  Amy was very rushed and didn't wait for adequate soaking time and started trimming my toenails without even asking me.  Before I was able to stop her she clipped my toenail so short that it hurt.  I had to tell her not to do that again with other toes.  Hastily she applied just one coat of nail polish.  I had to ask her to apply 2 coats on my fingernails as the color was very faint.  When she was done with me the other 2 ladies who started before me were still sitting in their seats been meticulously serviced. After I got home the toenail that she clipped too short started to hurt and became red. I had to apply topical antibiotics.  In addition, I inspected the nail polish and realized the toenails were not covered completely and there was still smears of polish around several of my toes!  I've never had such a lousy nail service in my life so I called the manger Justine who asked me to go in again the following day for her to inspect.  I told her that I was going on a weeklong vacation and this is the treat before the vacation. There is no way I could possibly go in for her to inspect.  She asked me to send her pictures of the nails which I did but never hear back from her again. She did offer for some kind of discount if I go in again and asked me not to cancel the reservation I made for the bridal party.  It's been 3 weeks since then and I happened to talk to another person who used to go to Justine when she worked at another salon before she opens Akoi.  This person said that the price is unreasonable high for the service they provide and she stopped going there.  I have no issue with the price but the quality of the service needs to match what I was charged!  Extremely disappointed at the service I received and will not return again. Sanitation ? This is first time I've wrote a review for any salon I've been to, I'm only doing this out of concern! I had been here about 4 times for a gel tip refill. Upon my return I had a chipped gel nail which needed to be removed. Commonly the technician will soak the nail and remove with ease or just buff the remaining gel off the nail. Well my nail girl decided it would best best to use force by leveraging a nail tip between my nail and the gel. It was extremely painful and resulted in bleeding from the center of nail. She then proceeded to apply the nail primer polish directly to my nails including the bleeding one without cleaning the nail first ! She then used the electric buffer and applied the gel product directly to my nail while it was still openly bleeding. Prior to applying the nail polish the blood was very much visible under my gel. I'm not one to complain and I contemplated doing so but I'm glad I did. The technician even made joke about calling the Red Cross to collect my blood?! No one should pay $47 for a refill experience riddled with pain and unsanitary practice. Although the place appears to be nice, they have some lazy employees who would rather cut corners, ultimately jeopardizing client safety! Read Less

I've really enjoyed going to this nail salon since moving to NJ. It's not the cheapest place around but I understand why they charge what they do. The salon itself is large, clean, and with the largest polish selection I've seen, including vegan/5-free polish brands. The technicians make great conversation and are fantastic at nail art if that's your thing. The quality of the the mani-pedis can't be beat. I had a regular (non-gel) polish last nearly 2 weeks and gels easily last a month. My only complaint is that the front desk girls always seem a bit aloof. They aren't the most helpful on the phone or when you arrive. There doesn't seem to be a clear method to tell your technician that you've arrived for your appointment so I've found myself sitting around a bit unnecessarily. Buyer Beware! Not my usual salon but I needed a gel manicure and they were able to accommodate me at a convenient time - all is by appointment only. The salon itself is not the usual set up - a bar area for manicures with very uncomfortable bar stools. The polish and manicure area appears not to be well lit and you can't determine the true color of the polish; however, the manicurist was very pleasant and did a decent job although the color she chose was more for a teenager. But I did agree. When I went to pay, the total cost of the gel manicure was $37.00!! When I asked why it was so high, I was informed that they charge $5.00 additional to remove my old polish because it was not done at their salon. Not only was the base manicure $7.00 more than other salons, the additional charge is kind of a rip-off!! You have to remove old polish - no matter what. Not a way to win new customers. I can't believe I've never been here before. I've gotten my nails done 100,000 times and this was definitely the best experience ever.First off they were running about 15 min behind. But instead of just telling me it will be a few minutes (as they often do at nail salons) the receptionist and nail technician profusely apologized and promised that wasn't their regular standard. I really appreciated their apology and truthfulness as far as the wait.Next I was offered a beverage. My nail person Wendy got it for me and put it on a convenient sliding table attached to my pedicure chair. The chair was beyond spacious with plenty of room for all of my stuff. It was actually more of a bench.Next I got a heated neck pillow which was amazing!! I never had one at a pedi. I also got a 20-30 min massage + exfoliation on my legs before and after my gel pedi. The only plus about this place is they use new tools every time... I felt like the girl doing my nails and the girl doing the nails of my friend were talking negatively about us... They made no attempt to converse with us at all... Also the girl I had did not listen to my requests at all... And after only a week or so my gel manicure has grown out very far due to the technician not getting to the edges of the nails on any side.... My friend was offered other services and asked if there was a up charge and was told the services were included in the manicure... Come to find out here was like 20$ more than mine was... I stopped in September 30th for a gel manicure and was seated right away. Wendy did my nails and she did a PHENOMENAL job!! Not only was I very pleased with the nail service, the atmosphere inside the salon, and the friendliness of the staff, my nails have remained chip and scratch free for 3 weeks (and counting)! I can't remember ever having a nail polish, even gels, last this long especially with the work I do. I work with my hands a lot as a zookeeper and my nails take a beating, I am SHOCKED that the polish has stayed so beautiful for this long. The prices are not too expensive and honestly paying a little more is worth it for the quality services they provide.  I will come back to Akoi for all of my future salon services and I highly recommend this place to my friends and family. Truly the rudest most arrogant receptionist I have ever encountered. When asking why akoi kept 30% of their operators tips she could not explain. First the answer was that the credit card company charged that much. Then when she called me three days after I had a $300.00 party there for my daughter I nicely asked again. Her explanation changed to being one about the owner getting charged for the tips as if she made the tip money not the operators and her having to withhold the taxes.  I am fine w anything they want to do to run their business but the receptionist was yelling and pissed that I asked questions.   She actually told me to go ask an accountant because she had no time to give me a lesson in taxes. Maybe when I wanted to leave my $100.00 tip she should not have told me to pay cash only so the operators could keep all the money and not only 70%. As far as quality goes the manicurists were very nice and gave good manicures to all of the kids that attended the party. The draw back and the reason I would NEVER go back is the receptionist yelling, obnoxious attitude that was unwarranted. It's a shame for the owner that this girl is the first face that the customers see and deal with and the last thing they see on the way out. Terrible.  I had a $20.00 overpayment that I would have just taken a gift card for but I will never walk back in there.  I will never recommend them for a party. I will never be treated that way again.  I come from a family of service oriented professions and this would not go over. No manicure is worth that treatment especially when I spent hundreds of dollars in a short period of time.  Shame on her and shame on the owners if they allow it.
