This review is for Raven since I haven't experienced any other services at Metropolis. I have had a bob for 8 years and finally found someone who cuts it perfectly! Raven is attentive and has even taken continuing education classes on perfecting my cut. It looks amazing straight and naturally curly and I feel like I have my best hair because of her. The salon is beautiful, they use the highest quality products, and they have protective gowns to change into before your service. Mk gave me one of the best massages I've ever experienced, and I've had countless, all over the world. The place was beautiful but the lockers were tiny and difficult to use. The dressing area is small and lacked amenities, such as lotions and hair product...Odd because upstairs there's a full service hair salon. This was my first visit to this salon. A little skeptical with initial reviews I read months ago but as I received a gift card, I gave it a try with a friend. Simply put, I am a nurse and cleanliness is my #1 priority - definitely a clean establishment. Regarding staff friendliness, was greated immediately upon entering and was escorted to my manicure location and my friend was escorted to her pedicure. Nice conversation with my manicurist, "MK" who completed a shellac polish and did a terrific job - clean and neat. My friend who received a Pedicure was even more excited - receiving a cup of coffee, a heated neck pillow and her pedicure met her more extensive needs to fix her foot issues. She swore this is her new place for pedicures with Vicki who clearly knows her stuff, All in all, if you are concerned about the cleanliness of a spa or about the staff, rest assured, Metropolis is quite clean, the staff catered to us as expected a spa would, and the services were above par. Can I just say that I have had massages before, but I have never ever felt so rejuvenated! My massage therapist MK (Michelle Kim) is the TRUTH! I called asking about whether they accepted walk ins, as I was experiencing major upper back and neck tension. The receptionist on the phone was SO nice and offered me a same day open slot for that evening. I can go on and on about how nice and helpful everyone was and how clean and nice the place looked, but the icing on the cake was that the massage ACTUALLY relieved my muscle tension!! I got the 90 minute Muscle Melt Massage and my massage therapist MK melted my tension knots away! I WAS SHOCKED. She was so patient and attentive to ask me about my comfort level and preferences (since i'm a very timid customer). I've gotten massages before, but always felt very uncomfortable about how sketchy the facilities and Massage therapists were. But this facility really is a spa (complete with hair/nail salon, showers, etc) not just a store front with random massage rooms. If you are a student (like I am) it can be a bit pricey, and I REALLY wish there was a student discount, but I'm gonna save up and go to MK again! This experience was worth every penny! Plus, if it's your first time you get a fun goodie bag that includes $25 off your next service! Seriously, I only write reviews when something is not great (i'm one of those people) but I had to break with my habit and give Metropolis and (especially Michelle Kim) 5 stars! There were a lot of hidden fees. This was my first time getting my hair dyed and I had a good experience- it turned out great- very natural and soft like I wanted it but it was a lot more expensive than expected. My stylist told me she was going to do a gloss because the color was brassy and so I naturally thought that would be included as her way of making it perfect- she almost had me do another conditioning treatment without telling me it was extra- so it ended up being a lot for expensive than it should have been. I wanted to do something special for a friend, so, what's better than a gift certificate for the local hair and spa center?! This idea was well received, she was so excited! It was cool to see her happy to receive a out of the blue gift. Now, in concept, this was awesome and I had just scored a touch down... but the horror at her experience! These people destroyed her hair and charged hidden fees to do it! She was extremely unhappy at the experience and cried when she got home. It wasn't till later that I found out they had given her two treatments she didn't know about and billed her more than double the amount and that she had to pay out of pocket.I don't know about you, but, can you image telling someone your service was $40 and then charging them $90 at checkout? "Oh, she didn't tell you those were extra, well they were..."This place seems to have a track record, stay away or at very least make sure you're paying for the service you asked and were quoted. I've been going to this place for around two years now with Tory and I have to say I've never had a better stylist.Tory truly listens to what I'm looking for and provides input on what she thinks could make my hair style better. I never feel as though she's just agreeing with me just to make me happy- she truly gives her opinion and I find that to be a very good quality in a hair stylist. Besides that her hair styling and coloring skills are amazing. I always leave the salon pleased with my cut and color.The one thing I would like to see improved upon is the front desk/customer service. I feel as though every time I walk in the front desk staff doesn't even acknowledge me until I ask for help. They continuously chat with each other or give me an attitude. *Haircut* There are no words to explain how disappointed in this place I am. I walked in with my husband, him asking if he can have a haircut immediately, since we were in a rush. They said yes. We've been there for an hour and the hairdresser was not even half done. She was super slow and not dong what my husband wanted. Because we had to leave she told him to come back tomorrow to finish him up. He spent another hour there, and the product was just horrible. This place charges A LOT of money, but their skills are poor - like with many American places if you compare them with European standard-it is just lower. but for this price, it is outrageous that you get such a poor hairstyle. His hair looked like she was using nail clipper to cut it. This places looks good on the outside, they treat you well, serve drinks, but you don't need that when you go to a salon. I've been a loyal customer at Metropolis for six years, largely because the stylist who cuts my hair does a fine job and is a sweet person. Overall, though, the place feels poorly and indifferently managed. The greeting at the front desk when you arrive can be surly.But today I break my neck to get to my appointment on time. They check me in, I put on a smock to get washed before getting a cut. And then they tell me that my stylist is running 40 minutes behind.They couldn't have called?? I'm done with this place. I love coming here for my hair - Silva is just amazing.  I get highlights and a cut, and my hair has never been so healthy.  I also love the specials and have come in for a few special treatments.  Still need to try the spa, I hear great things!  I guess my only issue is the pricing, HOWEVER we are getting city- quality talent & product with the convenience & space of a Princeton location, so I do get it.  And you can see that they are using the cash well, as their stylists are well-trained (Silva is certified for Living Proof and also does hair for NY fashion week).  You do get what you pay for here! I made an appointment after not having been here for years.  I went in and was greeted by a nice, young lady at the reception area.  I had my hair cut and blow dried by Francesca.  She was so nice, down to earth, and gave me a great hair cut and blow dry. I am really picky with my hair and thought she did a great job in executing what I asked for.  I have to say, though, I was much less impressed while checking out.  I remember the same woman from years ago and have always thought she  had a way of being slightly rude and pretentious.  I wouldn't let it deter me from going again, but genuinely friendly service is always a plus. This used to be my favorite spa, one that I had frequented for over a decade. Unfortunately something has gone terribly wrong and the service is severely lacking. Booked two appointments for myself and a girlfriend a few months ago, confirmed at booking and the day before the appointment only to be told the day of that they only booked one appointment so we had to wait an extra half hour. Was further aggravated by service staff attempting to solicit me when I was checking out. I go to the spa to relax, not to be bombarded with sales. Would have given them another chance if it weren't for the fact that they left me on hold for 10 minutes today when I called to schedule an appointment. For a luxury spa in Princeton one would expect better customer service. Too bad, so sad that I will be saying adios to what used to be my go-to spa and salon. What Princeton lacks in fun, its makes up for in their leisure. This is by far the best spa in central jersey. No matter who you choose or what package you get, you wont be sorry. To me a spa is more than just the massage or facial itself, its the entire expirence. Upon walking into the basement, you are relaxed instantly and attended too with a footbath, granola, and of course lemon/cucumber water.It gets 4 stars because the price could be better, but then again you get your quality with this price. Would not recommend this place, especially for the price.  I went for a spa day with a girlfriend and after confusion from the front desk staff as to what time we should be where and incredible rudeness all around we were rushed through abbreviated massages, had our nails done by two lovely woman and our hair blown out by two woman who barely spoke to us and to be honest did nothing that we could no have done ourselves down in the locker room.But to be honest, what really took us aback was the attitude from the desk staff and the woman who seemed to be coordinating the downstairs spa.  It was rude and absolutely against the typically spa experience you would expect in nicer places.  And that in the end caused us both to lease feeling unrelaxed and disappointed in something that should have been a fun girls day out.  The place is beautiful and clean, but I would rather spend the same money and go elsewhere. The place is beautiful. I was there once a long time ago, I stopped in about 6 weeks ago looking for a new cut. I had in my head what I wanted I told the stylist, I think her name was toni but I guess the lines of communication were blurred. What she did looked nice when I left and she gave a very nice blow out. Although it wasn't what I was looking to get it was a nice change. But then I washed it the next day and it wasn't so nice without her blow out that hid the flaws. She was a very sweet girl, maybe she's still going to beauty school. Would not recommend her for a cut but would strongly recommend her for a blow out. All in all I would go back, I just might ask for a different stylist. Read Less

Katye is the best she has been cutting my hair since I was 12 and I don't trust anyone else with it. I recently had balayage done (after not having my hair dyed since high school) and she did an amazing job. The shampooing is the best when they take their time and really give you a nice scalp massage, if you're early for your appointment you're more likely to have a better shampoo experience. Yan and Emma are both great for waxing, but I never have my nails done here because its too expensive. The waxing is also a little bit on the pricey side. Read Less

I don't come to Metropolis for their hair stylists, I usually go to have my eyebrows waxed, but this review is about my first facial with Tuyen.When arriving, you check in at the front desk. I've never had an issue with the people at the front. I let them know what I'm here for, they give you a slip of paper, which you take with you & head to the spa, which is downstairs. When you enter, it's a dimly lit living room type space. Serene music is playing & tea, water, fruit, & cookies are displayed to help yourself to.There's staff that come by to replenish these goodies & take away dirty dishes/glasses. After sitting there a few minutes, a member of the staff takes my slip of paper & leads me back to the dressing room where I slip on a robe & slippers. I return to the waiting room & the aesthetician, Tuyen, comes to escort me from the waiting room to the room where I'll be having my facial. It's a small room, but you don't need a lot of space to do a facial. I slip into the warm bed & the facial begins.Tuyen explains to me what she's doing, if the steam is too much, I just her know & she pulls it back a bit. I haven't had a facial since last year, so Tuyen did as much extracting as she could, but recommend I come back in about 8 weeks so we can finish off whatever she couldn't do today due to the time constraint. After we were done, she said it would take a couple days before I could see the results of the facial. I was provided with some samples of products that I should use & returned to the dressing room to change out of my robe & slippers.I've been to Tuyen for eyebrow waxing & she's very maticulous & does a great job. This is the first time I've gone to her for a facila & she's just as maticulous & isn't pushy about products, just makes recommendations. My skin after about 3 days looked really good, the bumps I had around my jaw line were significantly less. I'll definitely be going back in 8 weeks & probably many more times in the future.
