I was in town for a wedding and made an appointment at Benefit for a brow wax and a makeup application. My brow wax was great, and Amanda B did an amazing job on my makeup application. She filled in my brows beautifully and honestly gave me the best looking brows of my LIFE! She provided tips that I can follow at home to hopefully mimic her outstanding job. The rest of the makeup application also came out wonderfully and Amanda B matched me to products that looked great with my coloring. She also talked me into applying lashes, something I tend to avoid as I never had a good experience with these on my own, but they came out fantastic!The only reason why this review is getting 4 stars instead of 5 has more to do with the products at Benefit itself than the service I received. I wanted to do a smokey eye, but there was a very small selection of darker hued shadows available. Amanda B managed just fine, but I know my look could have really been next-level if Benefit had a larger selection of eye shadows available. Their brushes seemed pretty limited too. I'm a bit surprised this was the case for a cosmetics store that offers makeup applications, especially given that a smokey eye is a such a popular look. Just something too keep in mind, but nevertheless Amanda B did a fabulous job and I can tell they employee highly skilled staff. Read Less

We were here for a private party over the weekend and it was fun learning about their cosmetics and getting our brows done. Amanda, Lindsey, and Vanessa were all really friendly and had great tips on how to do our makeup and brows. Had my eyebrows threaded here. The result was okay, average at best--I've had much better and more comfortable threadings at NYC walk-in salons. For 4x the price you'd think there'd be a difference but no, not really. I felt really uncomfortable throughout my experience, as the women in the store continuously pushed their products really hard even after I said I owned several benefit products already. At the end, the girl at the register asked me loudly if I wanted to add a tip onto my $28 eyebrow threading--seriously, who does that? I mean a) really? none of that exorbitant price goes to the aesthetician? b) leave it to me to decide whether the service was exceptional. I have been going here for a while for brow threading and have been very pleased. Amanda in particular does an awesome job and is so sweet. However, the last time I went, I had my lip waxed too, and the next morning I was completely broken out all over where the lip wax had been applied. I conveniently had a dermatologist appointment for the next day, and when she took one look at my lip she was convinced they were using dirty or old wax. The breakouts were horrendous :( now I'm so nervous to go back for any kind of waxing services, and I've been having waxing done for years! Read Less

Went there to get eyebrow and lip waxed. Was nervous because I had never used anyone other than the lady I was used to. First, the lady who took care of me kept singing along to the radio INCHES away from my face. CAN YOU PLEASE FOCUS ON MY EYEBROWS?!Second, after I paid, I went out to my car (in the sunlight) and realized what a HORRIBLE JOB she had done. I went back in TWICE to have her fix it. THEN, I got attitude from the staff. YOU SCREWED UP MY EYEBROWS FOR $30+!! FIX IT-she also did not listen to me and made them way to thin and short (still recovering)THIRD, I was so upset at how I was treated and the service I received that the staff said they would refund everything (because I wanted that girl's tip taken off). I said thank you that's not what I wanted, I just wanted my eyebrows cleaned up, but the cashier said not to worry and that a manager would call me.WELLLLL, I never got a call and NEVER GOT MY REFUND. I'm very cautious about going to new salons and aesthetitians in Central Jersey because frankly they are very hit or miss. I lived in NYC for 3 years and was able to utilize the best of the best in everything from dermatologists to waxing salons and was able to find these folks easily via Yelp. I have been back in Jersey for a year and recently have not been working in NYC so I'm being forced to find new aesthetitians and salons. Benefit is one of the only salons in the area that offers both tweezing and threading. I saw Amanda for a face thread and brow tweeze and she did a pretty good job... I found some missing spots after the threading and my brows were slightly uneven. It's hard to be back in Jersey and shop for a new brow lady when my former brow lady was also Beyoncé's. I'm still going to shop around for new aesthetitians because I probably won't be able to get into NYC every month - 2 months just for my brows.To rebut a former Yelp review--I've been to Payal Salon and always leave fearing for my life because of the way the aesthetitians go at war with my face. At Payal, I leave in such a hurry that I forget to check if they missed any spots. Amanda was patient, thorough, and caring. Waxing, threading, and tweezing are all painful processes to begin with. You shouldn't be stressed from poor customer service while getting such services done.The skill level at Benefit was average... If you're not picky, Benefit will cut it. The rating could have been 4 stars, but I gave it 3 because the woman working that handled payment was rude (I didn't catch her name, but was just there Monday 03/21 at 10 AM... So management can take a guess). She had "never seen anyone get a face thread before and didn't know it was a thing." Hunny -- you work in a salon. Amanda and Nicole were phenomenal. I was able to sit down quickly despite being a walk-in and Amanda did a wonderful job fixing my brows and helping me understand how to make them better despite me having no experience! She was friendly and professional and I felt very comfortable. Nicole helped me fill them in and was similarly as friendly and skilled as Amanda. I look for just two things in a provider of hair, skin or nails: 1. Skill, and 2. Convenience. Last Thursday I unknowingly called Benefit 20 minutes before close. After I was greeted by a recording that started, "Helloooo, Gorgeous!!," a man asked if I could be at the shop in 10 minutes. Yes and yes! I walked in, sat down, was done in 10 minutes, eyebrows the definition of on fleek. Yes, $23 is a bit much for brows, but worth every penny. (Pretty sure I can no longer tolerate basic brows. I was searching for a new place to get my eyebrows waxed after my previous aesthetician left and I was having horrible luck ever since. I am very picky about my eyebrows and was really looking for someone who would take their time and help me regrow/reshape what was going on. I got my brows threaded by Jamie a few times when I was in college. She's efficient and makes them look clean and natural. I like a bit more of an arch and have mentioned this, but they never came out quite as I wanted, which is why I docked a star. But still, no biggie. :) Benefit is the only salon where I've gotten my eyebrows done and didn't end up with blackheads, breakouts, zits, etc. later on. I was recommended by a friend to go to this salon. When I walked in, I was greeted. I didn't set up an appointment and it was great to have someone available to do my nails.I wanted french manicure acrylic. When I sat down, I had someone working on my nails already. Nothing said or anything. She was working on my nails trimming and filing. It was great until I notice how sloppy she was doing to my nails. My nails were trimmed and they were slanted. There were some cut and som...e that weren't. I stopped and asked her to trim the rest of my nails correctly. She glanced at it and told me not to worry that it was going to be fixed in the end. So I trust her as I thought she was doing her job. She put acrylic on my nails and trimming them to what she wanted. After the acrylics were put on, she asked me what color did I want. I was confused. I told her that I came in for french manicure acrylics. At this time, she tried to fix the damage by stating that I should have stated that I wanted french manicure, now the only thing that she can do was paint the tip white. So she painted my tips white. This process took awhile as I noticed that many of the white tips were out of shape, the nails were crooked, some of my nails were square and then round on the edge, and some nails were short while others were long. I told her I didn't like it, and here is where I have problems with. She stated that she worked as a nail stylist for 10 years. She did a "great job" on my nails. I can ask anyone and ask my friend whom I came with. She stated that she was going to charge me $35, because she painted my tips. When I sat down, she did not confirm with me what my choice was. She did it to her liking as she stated when I told her that I didn't like the result. Many of the responses I got from her were she thinks my nails are perfect and she thinks I'm overreacting. I responded to her comments stating that it comes down to if I like the nails or not. It is not her choice to tell me what I like or what I don't like. I decided to talk to another employee and he stated that since I didn't say at the start that I wanted french manicure, there's nothing that he can do. And if I wanted to take it off, it'll take awhile. In the end, I gave up and paid for their service. They wanted money for their business and instead of providing great service to their customers. Jackie did a great job threading my brows. She recommended threading over waxing since I use the Cane + Austin face pads with glycolic acid. Really friendly and knowledgeable. I loved getting 'touched up' (free makeup application) after the threading was over. I wasn't planning to buy anything but was so pleased with the makeup application that I bought three products...
