I bought a Groupon on Thursday and scheduled an appointment for today. My Groupon was for an illuminating/collagen facial that was originally $135 but was only $75 via Groupon. I thought it was a great idea since I was in need of a facial. I usually get facials every 3 months that include extractions of white and black heads. This particular facial began with a cleansing and then several masks. Then with proceeded with the "extractions" that literally did no justice. Once my facial was done, I went and checked for myself and I was extremely disappointed. I can give myself a better facial with some tools I bought on amazon and my iPhone flashlight. My face does feel much softer but definitely not worth all that money. I don't think I'm going back there because it is pricey and definitely not a real facial. I visited Sulis Spa for a facial with Valerie. It was a wonderful and lengthy (in a good way) experience. She was very thorough in explaining what daily treatment would work best for my skin and didn't push the spa's products on me (I HATE when they do that). The basic facial includes much more upper body massage time than I've experienced at other spas which was very relaxing. Giving one star just because they are a ripoff!  Pricing is purely sketchy even when u ask the front desk staff for itemization they are hesitant about it.  They push services on you because it's more costly versus the actual service you want (ex: desire for partial highlights but unknowingly was given bayalage & charged for that).  It's Way overcharged for an ok salon in nutley.  I can go to a top notch salon in nyc and get even better quality hair services than here.    If u end up going here be sure to spend most of your paycheck. Came here on a Saturday morning to ask questions about my hair as well as schedule an appt. for a blow out for the following weekend. Everyone was friendly and professional. They had a specialist (Laurie) come see me,  she sat me down and started to check out my hair. Laurie explained things & gave me advice that totally made sense. She said she had time to do my hair now and though I was a bit skeptical of being done by 3pm (I had to look at a venue for my wedding) I took a chance. She is amazing! She fixed my 3 different colored hair and made it to one even color with a few highlights. She threw in low lights on the bottom to offset the blonde I had. I absolutely loved it! I then saw Loni who cut and blow dried my hair. She did everything exactly as I wanted it. I came to ask questions and ended up staying and basically  getting a makeover! And yes I was done by 3! I was just there on Friday with a wedding party. The wedding was near Morristown, yet we schlepped here for the sole fact that the bride's hair was done perfectly here. That cannot be said for the rest of us. To be honest, I should have done my hair myself as I do hair and makeup all the time. But I figured it would be nice to all be with each other for this. Let's start with the music. I worked in salons for many years and when there is bridal party, you are to cater to the party for the exclusivity feeling. That didn't happen. They said they had Pandora and that's why their music was terrible. I, too, own a business and my recommendation for them is to get Spotify. It may not be free like Pandora, but it is $10/month to choose any music of your choice. That was a red flag when they couldn't change the music. I was already hesitant in going to the salon because from experience, salons usually do a tacky-do and then say "it will fall by the time for wedding". And each and every time it happens to me, it never falls and I look terrible. All I asked was for look curls and some volume. The girl who was doing my hair had nice hair, so I felt comforted by that. WRONG! I had so much product in my hair, that I felt I was wearing a helmet of teased hair with a ton of product. But what's worse, it looked like I was wearing a helmet! I was livid, and I mentioned it to the girl that I didn't like it, but again, she mentioned it will "fall". I didn't want to get upset in front of the bride. So I paid, tipped and left. Only to go home, brush out ALL the product that made my hair hard as a rock and re do it myself. I was then getting text messages from the other girls how they hated their hair and another hated her makeup. One of the bridesmaid legit looked like a clown. Her face makeup was 10 shades lighter than her neck. She looked like she aged about 50 yrs. When she told the "makeup artist" she did not like it, she basically said she couldn't do anything about it because it will sink in her skin. Something crazy like that. The worst part, her makeup costed her $100+tip. Luckily, I know how to do my hair so I re did that. I did my own make up, fixed the bridesmaid with the clown makeup, and had to fix the bride's mother's makeup. This salon just added more stress to an already stressful day. They made all of us pay in full. Were not apologetic, to me, at least. I basically could have done all the girls' hair and makeup. Read Less

My sister recently got married and had her hair and makeup done at Melandre's, along with her bridesmaids, our mother, and mother of the groom. Several of the girls had been having their hair cut/colored at Melandre's with great success, so we had high hopes for the wedding day styling. Unfortunately, the success of the day was highly dependent on the stylist. Four of the girls left the salon with outdated looking curls (all done with a curling iron... no wands or smoothing irons in sight) and the curls were all done in the same direction, so they just kept lumping together into big super curls. They ended up redoing their hair back at the bridal suite. I personally freaked out (full disclosure, I cried!) when my stylist curled my hair (which is naturally thick, frizzy, and curly/wavy) and then teased it up and took a paddle bristle brush to the curls, completely frizzing my hair and causing a big poof. When I questioned her or asked her to make changes, she continuously argued with me that she was giving me what I asked for (soft, loose curls, as shown in 3 photos) and that I was changing my mind. No, no, no! It looked nothing like the photos and was a hot mess. I made her stop and asked the salon to just wash my hair and give me a blow out. To their credit, they were EXTREMELY kind and accommodating when I expressed my concerns with my styling and had two different stylists tag-team to give me a phenomenal blowout. In fact, if anyone is looking for a basic blowout in this area, I would highly recommend Melandre's. I finished my hair off at the bridal suite by adding some soft curls with a smoothing iron and pinning it back. So thankfully, after a very stressful first experience at the salon, my hair turned out great. I didn't personally have my makeup done, but can say it was a complete disaster for three of the girls. One girl in particular has rich olive colored skin. Her MUA gave her the cakiest, whitest looking foundation. She literally looked like she had makeup that goes on a deceased person for a funeral. It was so sad. Her MUA was way too heavy handed with the application, especially the highlighter. These bridesmaids paid for makeup only to wash their faces and have a friend reapply it. Meanwhile, a few other girls had a different MUA and had the most beautiful makeup applications. The lack of consistency was so disappointing! TL/DR: go to Melandre's for hair cuts and blowouts, not formal styling or makeup. Read Less

From the minute I got engaged and shared the news with them they (specifically Morgan for cut and Laurie for color) began thinking of a cut and color plan for the 16 months that followed to ensure my hair was my desired color and length come wedding day. This included "healthy clean-up/trimming" and color (alternating between partial and full highlights and low lights with an appropriate glaze) every 6-8 weeks. All of this was timed purposely around my bridal shower, the summer, and of course wedding day. Laurie even made sure to place my highlights in exactly the right place based on the off-set part I decided to go with during my wedding day hair trial.Speaking of, I completed my hair and makeup trials about 3 months before my wedding day. I showed Morgan a few pictures for my hair and she instantly knew what look I was going for and how to achieve it. Based on what I've seen Morgan do on other clients I wasn't surprised. She is truly one of the best there is. Similarly, I showed Natalie pictures of the makeup look I was going for and she absolutely delivered. She is an artist and works magic. The trails reaffirmed that I was in the best possible hands for my wedding.Melandre Salon was the perfect place to get ready the morning of my wedding. The salon is laid out in such a way that allowed us to hangout and have fun drinking mimosas and eating breakfast while they worked on a few of us at a time - it was such a fun, relaxing atmosphere and the spirit of the entire staff made us feel comfortable, at ease, and even more excited than we were when we came in (I didn't think that was possible!). Their team of experienced professionals were able to handle hair and makeup for 11 total ladies with ease and in a timely manner. Everyone left feeling and looking absolutely beautiful. Our makeup lasted the entire day and night, which included pictures outside in the rain! I cannot thank Miriam and the entire staff at Melandre enough for making me feel and look my very best on the most important day of my life - Melandre is truly the best there is and an absolute must if you need to hire and makeup for your wedding! Bought a Groupon for color, haircut, conditioner and style and uponseeing the quality of work and the great service like the color work done by John, the way he meticulously applied the color andthe way the shampoo girl washed my hair and massaged my scalp (a completely different new way I have never had before), and the artistry in which the hair stylist cut my  hair, I came out quite impressed.  While cutting my hair he actually looked like a passionate, mad painter painting on a canvas (which was my hair).  Also they used high quality hair products  Looking forward to going back.   They also have a spa but I don't know much about it yet. The two stars are for the excellent customer service from the lady at the desk upstairs and the facility and frills. My massage therapist was Jessica and I had bought a Groupon. My massage was just "NOT" good at all. I was quite shocked since I had high expectations. I have had hundreds of massages and this was one of the worst. The problem was the therapist was too "slow". Her "massage strokes and other techniques" per minute were significantly less than any other massage that I have had in the world. I just had my monthly-ish massage. This place is 10 minutes from my house I Passed it a million times. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it's gorgeous on the inside and even has a tranquility room with snacks tea and water. I had a great massage I feel wonderfully relaxed!! The place is fantastic, the owner,her name is Miriam knows exactly how to steer her ship in the right direction. Every time I have been there for a service I see her involved either at the front desk or chatting with a customer or an employee. A must attribute for owner/manager of any business. I used to get serviced by Luis (who also was a phenomenal stylist they had) came back again was immediately accommodated by the owner Miriam who set me up with Casey.Casey has a great sense of styling, gave her input as to what might look good on me. I have been a client for years and the service here has always been impeccable.  Wednesday night, I went in for a blowout with Antonia (I hope I'm spelling her name correctly). Midway through,  I began to get dizzy and nauseous  (I suffer from vertigo). Antonia was beyond accommodating and kind.  She got me a cup of water,  made sure windows were open to give me air,  removed my smock so I could cool off,  and completed my blowout quickly and professionally.  I am truly grateful for how gently she handled my hair and the situation.  It's always a pleasure to get any service done at Melandre. The outside does no justice to this place. It's a bi level building with a salon downstairs and massages/facials upstairs. I was greeted professionally and quickly. I was brought into a changing room to undress, given a locker and put on a gown and slippers. Then I went to the tranquility room to wait until my facial girl was ready for me. The room has an assortment of teas and little things to snack on. My facial was great. Very relaxing, professional and the extractions were painless. Will def be going back there again. I am torn. I really wanted to like this place but I left my facial experience unimpressed and disappointed.I go to facial appts not to relax or be pampered, but to help manage combination skin, especially in my T-zone area. I value places that provide a thorough cleaning and extraction. As one of my previous aesthetician quipped, "If you want to relax, get a massage, not a facial."I booked an appointment by telephone and was advised to come 10 mins before to fill out paperwork, which I did. After the paperwork was done they showed me to the locker room to change into a robe and slippers. Then I went into the lounge, which was supplied with a range of herbal teas. So far, so good. Very nice space, and because phones weren't allowed, I sat and waited.And waited. And waited.18 minutes go by after my appointment time. What is going on? Did the aesthetician know I'm here? Finally, I propped up my courage and opened the door back out into reception. The receptionist who greeted me is now chatting with another girl and a third person. There were no other customers in sight. I had to interrupt their conversation to ask what was going on, as it is now after my appointment time. The receptionist immediately launched into the rapid-fire-canned-response-mode (you know, the tone that customer service reps use to try and cower you into submission with their super fast, know it all 'professional' voice?) and started telling me that an additional 15 mins is incorporated so I can get comfortable, change into the robe and complete paperwork.Paperwork? But wait... isn't that why I came 10 mins early? If I knew I had 15 mins to slither out of my clothes and dawdle in a tranquility room, why would I come early at all?One of the girls who were there chatting then said that she was the one that will be doing the facial and that she is ready for me now. She didn't introduce herself. No one offered an apology. I actually ended up being the one apologizing for interrupting their conversation.The facial itself was ok; extractions were done. I left the appt an hour and a half after the scheduled time. The next day my chin started having tiny breakouts. This has never happened at previous places I have visited, including facials @ Massage Envy.So sad. I went to Melandre Hair Color and Design on April 18th. I went for a facial. It was great. It felt so good on my face. My blackheads were removed for the first time in years. A very much due review here for Melandre... I came for a massage a few months ago (which was excellent btw)-  I should probably write a separate review on my massage/spa experience. It was my first time at coming to this place but had heard good things about this spa. After my spa experience and seeing all the hustle and bustle downstairs at the salon, I got curious and checked out reviews on it. Well, like most busy/popular salons found really good reviews and some not so good, so decided to find out on my own. And I'll tell you right now, so sooo happy with my decision. I am super picky with the products I use and what I do to my hair and was very pleased to see top of the line products and knowledgeable staff. I went for color and haircut. I wanted highlights, I'm not exactly the one that comes in knowing exactly what she wants but knew I wanted something that looked natural yet sophisticated... well my color specialist nailed it! As far as haircut, I was looking for to change up my haircut a bit, something sexy but that I was still able to style on my own at home. You really get the spa experience here, and it's not a massage mill like Massage Envy or Hand and Stone.  The facilities are immaculately clean, you are given a super comfy robe and slippers, locker, then taken to the tranquility room, which is amazingly relaxing.  My massage was wonderful and during my reflexology, I def. dozed off!
