As a recovered nail-biter, my nails are a somewhat touchy subject for me; I've been growing them out for over four months now, and have been taking care of them exclusively at home, with the exception of one wonderful, gentle manicure at a different location back in November. I use strengthening treatments and do not buff them, and they have been in wonderful condition and growing out nicely. Today, I was in New Brunswick, and had some time to kill and chipped nail polish. This was, unfortunately, the first salon I happened upon, and I REALLY wish I had read the reviews before I went inside.I was treated rudely from the moment I walked in the door, and was actually sneered at for saying just a regular manicure (again, should have just walked out then). I think this is only the place to go if you want to get acrylics...if you just want your natural nails painted, DO NOT GO HERE. Actually, don't go here at all...and I'll tell you why. Once I was seated, the manicurist looked at my nails and asked me "Cut them?" Now...they weren't ridiculously long; not even the average length most people have their acrylics. I reacted with a very firm NO, and a request that she not use the dremel on my nails, as I didn't want them damaged. She proceeded to roughly file my nails with saw-motions across not only the tips, but also across the surface in every which direction. I had no idea how bad it was because of the angle at which she was working, until she switched hands, and I was too flabbergasted to stop her (again, should have left). when she wiped down the dust from my hands, I could see that the highest point of my nail beds were mostly hot pink from being over-filed. Then she "painted" my nails.I picked an Essie polish, which are high quality. I think it was Perky Purple; a neon matte color. I noticed, and was wary of the fact that she only used two coats, then sent me over to the dryer, but in the indoor light, while wet, it did not seem to be a problem. After drying, and going outside, I took a closer look in the direct sunlight. I was SHOCKED that I had just paid someone to make my nails look like they did. I immediately took pictures of my manicure, which I will be posting. I sent them to a friend, still shocked, and wishing I had the guts to go back in and ask for my money back because it was so awful. There were smudges of polish on my skin, wells of polish on the sides of my pinky nails, polish all over my cuticles, and several completely bare strips of nail, as well as uneven spots where only one coat reached. I do a better job by myself! My friend replied to the pictures and convinced me to go back in and get my money back. So, I went back in. I approached the man who had been standing at the front and started to show him the problems, and he suddenly pretended he couldn't understand me, and pointed me back over to the manicurist, who was working on someone else. I pointed out the smudges, the welling, the unevenness, and she just said "oooh messed up, got messed up..." to which I replied "No, it didn't get messed up, it wasn't done right!" but she wasn't listening to me, she was doing something behind the table, which I realized was her putting polish remover on some cotton...only after she started taking my polish off while I was still standing next to her, with her client sitting there with wet nails...!?!?!? While she did this, she started yelling back and forth with another manicurist in another language, and then passed me over to her, who continued taking off the polish, and sat me down in the next station. I realized I was not going to be able to communicate with them AT ALL, and just accepted my fate that they were going to re-do it. The only words the second manicurist said to me at this point was "Hands so cold!" Thank...you? The entire time, she was still clearly bitching about me with the first manicurist. She then made this BIG SHOW out of slowly painting each nail verrrrrrry carefully...but again, only doing two coats. She then brought me over to the dryer and patted my shoulder and said "stay still this time!" so....the first awful manicurist said that i needed everything redone because I had dinged my nails? Oh PLEASE. Just to be safe this time, I stayed under the dryer for two cycles before going outside....then immediately took pictures of my manicure AGAIN because it was WORSE. The base of most of my nail beds have bald spots where she pushed the color around in her long display of taking her time. One more coat may have done the trick, but we'll never know. Now, from all the filing down that was done to my nails, if I press the tips, gently, they bend in. I'm so upset by this. DO NOT let that woman get near your natural nails!!! I have a feeling I'm going to have to cut them back and grow them out again, or get wraps. Maybe she was intentionally damaging my nails so I'd need fakes??? I have no idea! Just steer clear of this place!!!!! Read Less
